[App][Tablet][Beta]Help me graduate college by testing my file manager app! - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Hello there!
I've chosen to work on building a user interface for file managing on android tablets for my special problem, one of my subjects this semester. So in order to graduate, I need the help of some willing testers to test out my app.
I'll admit, it's not the best file manager. Features are scarce, the code is not that optimized both in running time and in memory allocation, and there are a lot of checking that needs to be done (like when your sdcard is currently mounted in usb mass storage mode). But my focus is the user interface and not the back end, so please excuse these things.
Here's a demonstration of the features it has:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNcyT5iwLyU
Some things to take note of:
There's no up folder button, so you can't go past /mnt/sdcard when going up the directory hierarchy
if /mnt/sdcard is not your internal sdcard's default mount path, then it'll crash
When you swipe horizontally too fast to switch tabs, it does some funky stuff making one pane invisible. touch the other pane again to make it appear again.
You CAN'T cancel a copy or past operation when it has started.
Don't do stuff like copying or moving a file to the same folder it currently is in. if you move a file or folder to the same folder, it will get deleted.
Just perform normal file operations. Avoid trivial cases as mentioned above.
So here's the link for the app: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16398746/Files.apk
And here's the link for the evaluation form: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEVQeElJb3QyR05kLUN0akliV0ExbEE6MQ#gid=0
Thank you very much! I'm open to comments here in XDA so just comment ahead and please be gentle with me, it's my first app.

nice work!
I really like the ui! Its better than for ex. In astro
But: i didnt manage to go "higher" than mnt/sdcard, so i wasnt able to see my micro sd.(how) can i do that?
And: could you add a picture preview?
Maybe you could do something that the back button works?
But all in all, i like it because of the simple buttons, the drag and drop option and its really cool.
Sry for my bad english ;D

Nub question - Opening file in subfolder

Hi guys, hopefully a stupid noob question that I can't seem to figure out.
I'm a bit of an organizational freak (as I'm sure many of you are), and like having sub-folders within main folders.
For example, I have some e-books on my Fuze and like having sub-folders with the author name.
So, folder structure looks like
\Storage_Card\ebooks\Edgar_Allen_Poe\...
When I go to open an ebook in MobiPocket, I cannot see that sub-folder (only the main path to ebooks).
The same issue plagues me with other programs, such as PocketNester...I'm assuming it has something to do with the Windows Mobile method of scanning directories in the file open dialog.
Anybody else have this problem?
I have noticed this in other apps, but never used mobipocket, so I think it's the behavior of the WinMo file manager as well. Maybe you need to put your directories on the root of the storage card. Have you tried shortcuts? Doubt it will work and it would probably drive you nuts that your shortcuts arent neatly organized in subfolders...
I don't think you can use sub-folders with mobipocket (or ereader). If you want things organized, then I would do something like put #'s or letters at the start of each author's books to keep them organized together (1-xxx, 1-yyy for the 1st author, 2-aaa, 2-bbb for the second, where the xxx's are the book names).
I find the file explorer in some apps pretty annoying, too. Like in pocket rar, you can create an archive for things like cab files. If you want to add to the archive, then it has to be on the storage card and in the root of any of the main folders on the storage card. That is annoying as crap. There are other situations where you can save a file in either main memory or storage memory, and you'll only have access to root folders, or sometimes in the main memory only to the folders in \my documents. It's like the person who designed this crap was auditioning for a job with apple to work on iphone development. I wish I knew a work-around (other than cutting-and-pasting after saving things), but I don't.

[Q]: sdcard directory so can pull from device with broken screen

Ok, I'm donating my ns4g to the cause but i want to pull all my info before i wipe and drop in the mail. I have gotten quite a bit of data from it so far but can't seem to find some files i know are there. I would just do a backup but since screen broke i can't confirm to proceed.
Mounting shows nothing in my computer..it asks for me to insert disk. Anyway, pulling with abd works perfectly. What i would like is for someone to maybe post me a list of the folders on sdcard..excluding your personal downloads. I just need a list and not actual folders. I don't need subfolders. I don't need the root system folders. Just the ones that are on the sd. Like mainly the path to dcim/100andro, any folders that would be made to store screenshots or images downloaded from web browser and/apps. And the names of the hidden ones. Can't remember if only one of those.
To my understanding this will be helping to keep one of the ns4g roms alive as is going to talented dev with working screen! Thanks! Like said, just need a list of basic sdcard folders Android uses.

[APP]SD File manager/Explorer

Hi All,
This is my first application in Android, SD File manager/Explorer. This helps you organize all the Files/Folders in your SDCard. Unlike other file managers in the market it is extremely light weight(just 170 KB) and very simple to use.
For the first release(has all the basic functionality like Copy, delete, rename, favorites list, rename etc..), I wanted to get feedback about the UI and performance and make it a lot better in the next releases. In the next update I'm going to bring advanced features like Google drive, dropbox integration, search, network access etc..
Please use it let me know any bugs and help me make it better. Also any features/Suggestions are extremely welcome.
Download the apk in the attachment or download it from play store
PS: This is my first applications and took at most care to make sure that it is bug free, but there are still any please spare it .
Thanks and regards,
Murali
This is pretty cool if you want to do quick actions like copy/paste. Definately faster than cm file manager too. I would like to suggest you look at a rather nice feature on SolidExplorer, you have 2 active panes and can copy from one to the other, just makes file management a breeze
thanks for reply

Hi Cornelha,
Thanks for using it. I will definitely look into those apps and try to bring those features in later updates
best file manager of ever

[Free][App][2.3+] UNCOPT Holo File Browser w/ su, dual views

UNCOPT File Browser is the nicest and most innovative Holo styled file browser for Android with root capabilities.
It provides all the features needed to browse and organize your pictures, files, documents and videos. It gives you access to the internal storage, sd card, external usb storage devices, internal filesystem and more (with plugins) .
Unlike other available file browsers on the market, UNCOPT File Browser also offers unique features:
Resizable split view: a simple swipe will split the screen in two and give the user two independent browsable panels that can be resized at will. File managing becomes even easier and more efficient.
Efficient archive browsing (zip, tar): unlike other apps, the archive content is never extracted in a temporary folder (or even in memory). The specific parts that need to be accessed (to display or send them) are streamed on access.
Nested archives: unlike other apps, nested archive content can be listed and accessed. To the user there is no difference between a folder, an archive and a nested archive in terms of browsing. Archives can be nested in multiple levels.
Keyboard navigation: the keyboard navigation is fully functional.
Simple action bar navigation with interactive path.
Automatic sync with MediaStore (Gallery) and the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) connection.
Complies completely with the Android Holo Style, even on Gingerbread.
On top of that you get all the usual features such as:
Browsing.
Copy/paste using official mechanism for compatibility with other apps.
Sort by file size, file name and modification date.
Create, delete, rename, send, bookmark files and folders.
Search.
Create zip files.
Shows thumbnails for APKs and images in gridview mode.
Multi file selection.
Local Network SMB protocol (windows shares), free plugin required.
Registers as a file picker so that other applications (such as gmail) can access the files too.
UNCOPT File Browser also provides tools for rooted devices:
Browse system files like any other (including system and user apps).
Change file permissions.
Automatically remount read-only filesystems as read-write.
suid/guid/sticky special permissions
Available on Google Play. Search for UNCOPT File Browser.

Full Version : http://goo.gl/m9ksq
Lan PlugIn : http://goo.gl/hD30T
Tried it, looks really awesome, but won't test more, as one of the critical features I need (and probably many others) is Cloud support (Dropbox, Gdrive, etc.)
But it really has the best UI I saw in a file manager, very smooth, looks awesome even on my Optimus One's small screen
Edit: Like a post below me, I also hope you keep getting it better, it truly has HUGE potential (holo Solid Explorer)
It is on XDA Portal, so...
looks good,nice work
really an awesome looking app, great features too.
But there are some things i really miss right now or i would like to be changed maybe
-possbility to execute an apk(right now it just opens the content)
-drag and drop for files between the 2 tabs would be awesome
-maybe a possibilty to customize the view, like disable the file size part(because on a phone, even with 4,7" it takes up a lot of screen.
-sometimes it is a bit hard to hit the triangle for the menu of the file to show up
Edit
Just noticed I can hit the whole date/size space to open the file menu, nice
hope this amazing file explorer keeps updating,it really has a huge amount of potential :good:
Bought the full version just to support the developer. Keep it up, i love it!
Looks really good! Keep up the awesome work
Im liking the whole Holo look and how it works to browse files, but I can't install simple apks? It just views it as if it was a zip files. i can easily install apks on other file browsers except this one? Maybe it's just me but thought i'd share the problem im having.
finally found a simple yet powerful root file management app. Would be cool if there is an option to show the folder properties of the folder i.e. the amount of data inside the folder.
Love the App! Got the paid version.
As along with the rest, installing an APK is a mandatory must!
Am sure this will be in an updated version

Odd, I hate this feature on es, its the first thing I turn off. Many apps dont install with that. Why do you want it at all?
...
The file borwser looks great, thanks. The only thing is the icon, its not great
Looks good so far. But currently not usable for me. Some things are missing, like cloud. And if you press on pictures they don't open, you have to go through the context menu. Thats kinda annoying. And it laggs on Galaxy s3 (CM 10.1) while scrolling. But the idea is good, im looking forward to future versions of it. Thanks.

Ummmmm..... to sideload apks for testing Why "wouldn't" you want that feature?
You'll find there are other places to get apk's other than the Play Store. XDA for example. Other than tossing them in /system/app which is rather counter-productive, the only option is to install via FM.

Will give this ago ! Many thanks.
Thank You!
great browser ... keep up the good work.
feature would haves
1. Cloud integration
2. 7Zip integration
:good::good:
Cheers,

App icons are shown in grid view, but not in list view.
Also, as others have said, installing apks is a must

I think he misunderstood... ES has a feature to install apps without the package installer... it just installs in the background
Thank you all for your feedback.
We're working hard to add all the features you requested.
As for the apks, you can install them by clicking on the thumb (bottom right corner of the row/cell). It will bring up the dropdown menu. Click open and it should do the trick.
A lot of people are complaining about it (not only to install apks but also to open a file), we'll try to make it more obvious.
