[Q] Accidently deleted social hub... anyway to get it back? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi guys, I accidently deleted social hub with TiBu and I forgot to back it up. Is there a way to get it back? Apparently it is necessary for e-mail app to function in ICS.
Thanks a million!

Nevermind... I deleted the old /system/app folder and replaced it with the original /system/app folder with root explorer.
still seems to be running stable.

Backing up data prior to root

One of my coworkers wants me to root his but doesn't wanna loose all data if it's preventable, is this possible?
What is he wanting to keep, and is he going back to a sense-based ROM after rooting?
I retained my contacts by syncing sense, google, facebook, etc before rooting mine. There are some file explorers out there that don't REQUIRE root, so you could possibly use one of those to back up things to your SD card (I can't speak to their effectiveness - I purposefully kept my dependency on this phone low until I had rooted it because of this).
Has he tried using the HTC PC software for his phone? Perhaps there are some features in there that will allow him to sync the things he wants to keep?
I'll look for some tools if you can give me an idea of what he needs to keep... (trust me, my wife's only reply was "everything" when I rooted hers I feel your pain).

Specificity is your friend, here at XDA...
As mentioned, if contacts are have been synced to Google, then they'll automatically return.
You can also try MyBackup Pro for contacts, pics, and the other basic stuff.
If you want to backup app-specific data, if the app has a built-in back-up mechanism, then you're good for that app, but if it doesn't (and many don't), you're going to have to have root access in order for that type of data to be accessable by a backup app such as titanium backup, as it's kept in a special location that's normally of limits to any other app other than the one that "owns" that data. For example, when I rooted my phone, I said goodbye to all my angry birds scores/progress, and had to start from scratch.

You always have to lose data to initially root. Then from that point you can always backup.
He can backup texts and all before rooting though.
Thanks yall, he was afraid of loosing everything but I assured him that his piktars and music were saved to SD, contacts to Google and SIM but his SMS, I don't know how to backup/save.

I normally use TB to backup all my apps (+ data for the apps) because if using Apps2SD, it remembers and put the files back in the same place.
I use My Backup Pro for all my other data; sms text messages, mms, contacts (can NEVER have enough backups of that, LOL), calendar, browser favorites (seems to also hold my cookies and passwords, a major help!!!!!), music lists, and as mentioned, a near copy of every page of your desktop screen - icon placements, etc, which also is a major time saver.
So pretty much I use both, and paid for both, worth every penny in both time and effort saved.
Plus, TB has other cool features; dalvik cache cleaner (no need to reboot into recovery!), market link doctor (used many times, to fix programs that are installed, but the market don't see them anymore), and the many batch run ops, like mass move to SD card, restore only missing apps, etc. And, when rooted, you now CAN remove any bloatware at ease! Even Sprint apps.

Oh none of that is lost. Pics remain untouched as does the whole SD card. Contacts are backed up to Google, etc. Texts and call log is the only thing lost, and you can find backup solutions for that on the market.
You don't loose data or apps when rooting unless you get lost and brick your phone.

[Q] Transfer sms from desire to sensation......

I just got my new sensation
I want to transfer my SMS messages from my USB bricked desire (yes I've tried to fix it but no joy) but when I try the transfer via bluetooth it only offers my contacts.
Any way of doing this (bare in mind I can't connect via USB) ?
Thanks.

Do they backup to the cloud ?
I need to be able to backup to the cloud, as I said the desire is bricked and so I don't have access to my SD card.
Is there an app that backups to the cloud or another method ?

That's actually a damn good question. There is an app called just "SMS Backup" that apparently backs up all of your texts to neatly-organized Labels in your Gmail account, which seems kind of nice. It doesn't appear to have any way of restoring those backed-up messages to a new phone, however. Also note that is another, similarly-named app called "SMS Backup & Restore" which only backs up an XML file to your SD Card-- that's definitely not what you want.
A somewhat wackier solution might be found thanks to this thread: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/data-file-storage-location-for-sms-messages-23299/
If you can navigate with, like, Root Explorer (or some similar file-manager app with elevated access privileges), you can try to locate /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and export that file to Gmail or Dropbox or something like that. I know ASTRO lets you share files by long-pressing it, so I'm assuming that root-privileged file-managers will do the same.
Once mmssms.db is exported, I'm not totally sure what you'd do from there. Although I hope it's just a matter of replacing the .DB file on the new phone with the .DB uploaded from the old phone, I get the feeling it might not be just that easy.
Oops! It looks like the app I was thinking about is not "SMS Backup", but "SMS Backup+" which is advertised as being able to backup to Gmail Labels as well as to restore SMS (but not MMS) to new phones. Give that a whirl.
Mate, don't give up on a fix. PM ziggy1001 for adb.commands, there are two, but in most threads only one is mentioned. Good luck.

Whatsapp installing

It is possible to install Whatsapp on a Asus tablet.
But you must have Whatsapp already working on your Android phone.
Just make a backup All apps and data with Titanium backup from Whatsapp on your phone.
Go into the TitaniumBackup folder at your phone and copy the three files starting with com.whatsapp to your Asus tablet. U have to put these files in a folder named TitaniumBackup.
Then download Titanium Backup on your tablet.
In settings, applications, Development enable USB debugging and allow mock locactions. At applications enable Unknown sources.
Go to Titanium Backup and scroll to the com.whatsapp file.
Restore app and data.
Now you should have working Whatsapp !
Hey it works! Great and so simple
Only although I have all contacts on my TF, only the phone numbers appear at my whatsapp chats. Any fix for this?

do i just put the 3 files straight into the titanium back up folder since i had it installed before or do i need to make a new folder and search for it with titanium back up?
the .comwhatsapp files are not showing up in titanium backup after i put then in titanium back up.
It works!
Yeah, just put those three files in titaniumbackup folder and restore with the app (app + data ofc.)
The contact problem can be solved in app by pressing a contact with only a number and clicking "add to existing contact" and selecting the right one from your contacts.
Hope this helped!

Great, I'll try it tonight.
Another question, I resumed an existing chat with a friend and all replies returned in whatsapp on the TF but not on my phone.
Next I asked my GF to send me a message in an existing chat, and the messages came on my phone and not the TF.
So, can I conclude only replies to a message initiated from the TF get returned to the TF but when someone apps me it always appears on the phone?
*edit* well, I just noticed that when I was away today I received some apps on my TF which did not arrive on my phone so as long as I cannot synchronize this it nis not very handy...
Just to add to this and hopefully make sharing with your phone easier.
1) Install Droidwall from the market on phone and tab (assuming you've got whatsapp working as above).
2) Change to blacklist mode on Droidwall and select both settings for whatsapp (3G and WIFI).
3) Save rules
4) Then just turn on the firewall on the device that you don't want to receive messages.
You can switch in seconds between the two. I've been using this for a couple of weeks with no problems. You obviously need to be rooted but Titanium requires that anyway.
Hope that helps.

Not at present unless whatsapp change something fundamental. Failing that you'd have to keep swapping files with titanium but that would be a real mess.
hm. ok. i thought this already :-(
another question:
if i install it on both, i can write from both on same time?
example:
i receive an message on my phone, but i answer from the tablet.
sure, i can't see the messages from tablet on the phone, but my fried receive the messages?
or rather: receive both devices the message, or do only one?
background:
it' s only interessant when i'm @home, because tablet has only wifi, so i text @home with tablet and "on the road" with the phone...
u now what i mean?!

You can send from both devices simultaneously but, unless you firewall (with Droidwall or similar) the device you're not using, the replies could go to either phone or tab. They won't go to both. Droidwall is very easy to set up and as you have to be rooted to use Titanium it's no hassle.
Your English is fine, had no trouble understanding you
hm, ok.
i think i'll test it and then we see if this is practicable for me
thank u for helping.
and btw: ok, i tought my english is bad, but obvious it's better then i mean

[Q] Whatsapp Image Storage?!

Hey y'all, I was just on Whatsapp, and my friend sent me an image.I saw the pic and deleted it.. Now to be quite honest with you guys, I could get in trouble for some of those images if anyone were to grab hold of my phone and go through it....eek!!
I went to my gallery and deleted the pics.. (just to be sure i went to Whatsapp folder in SD card and checked the Image folder nothing was there)
Is it safe it assume that i have safely deleted the pic.
Or is it saved in whatsapp server and can be retrived?
Also when i clear my conversation? Is it fully cleared? Or can that also be got back?
Thanks

From the reddit thread you have
--> Disable Sync
--> Restore Backup
You can see your contacts here
--> Go to contacts app
--> Select all contacts
--> Click share button
You will get a .vcf file
--> Download .vcf file
--> Go to contacts on web and import the .vcf file.
--> They should be available on Sync again

Thats a bit weird. Contacts sync was an issue in older androids that's why I had .vcf backups
Well, I am not sure what DB google voice uses, but if it's not encrypted, you can view it in DB viewer for SQLite and export the contacts as CSV.
and probably import that into you google contacts.
Still no luck
You should save a couple copies on multiple hdds/flash drives. People forget to back up these small databases... until they're gone
Maybe there's a copy on a old sim card?

I had a similar experience and but had backed them up. For whatever reason chunks of the contacts vanished.
It's important to keep copies that aren't on that device at all. In a blink of an eye a virus or rootkit could destroy them all.
I use multiple hdds that aren't synced at the same time so at least most of my data is safe no matter what happens. Cloud stuff can get wiped or become inaccessible too so I put little faith in it.
Maybe an old phone you have, some is better than none. Backed up on a laptop or by a forgotten app maybe?
Maybe still stored on Google... worth a try? Google backup might take a day or so to restore them and may not even indicate they were saved. May work even if backup has been disabled by enabling it again. Google's a mess.

You need to search your brain if the Google backup is gone.
Maybe you backed them up long ago on another hdd or flash drive.
Samsung cloud?
A carrier based app?
Think and search. An old laptop or PC hdd?

I can see them in the GV app and at this point it isn't a huge deal to retype them from scratch, but at least some of the photos are irreplaceable.
