I recently got the ICS and Sense 3.6 update on my sensation. After update two things happened regarding facebook. First all my contacts which were linked to facebook started showing their previous pictures, i had to delink the contact and then relink to fb contact and only after this they started showing latest facebook profile pictures.
Secondly my friend stream widget no longer updates, even when i tap the update option it just keeps on updating and never updates.
Has anyone else faced similar issues with ICS and facebook on sensation ?
I have similar problem, after ics ota update my contact were linked with fb, wich i dislike, but i managed to get rid of it...
But problem is that now some contacts in messagging (sms) are linked with fb (but not in phonebook contacts aka people)...also searching in messaging searches through fb contacts too...very annoying...
To make things worse, i have for same person contact with one name in people app (nickname given by me) and another name (given by the person on fb) in massaging app :/ arghh
Hope it makes sense (oh the irony)...not to mention that htc sense app got aproved by itself on fb...
Help anyone? How to unlink fb contacts in messaging app only (not in the people app because i did that already)...
Thx

As title.
I can't seems to get the latest facebook profile pic for my contacts listed in the People application.
I tried clear the cache for People and Facebook for HTC Sense in the application settings but to no avail.
I am able to get their latest contact number and facebook status message.
Is there a way to manually update the picture?
Please advise.
I have the same problem.
The only solution I found is that I delete the account "Facebook for HTC Sence" and I re added it. This way I force the Sense to synchronize itself with the latest pictures.
Thanks, it works, though the sync take quite a while.
just go into the gallery, switch to Facebook and then update after pressing menu
Only problem I got is that MY pic is not really syncing..
I use an app called syncmypix
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thanks for more suggestion
What may help, before syncing your contacts with HTC Sense Facebook, ensure that "People --> View --> Only contacts with phone numbers" is unchecked!!!
For some reason, when syncing contacts, this option comes into play.
Cheers,

Loving my new HTC Inspire
In "Accounts & Sync", Facebook has 2 profiles set up: Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense.
What is the difference? Should I remove one or the other?
At first, I was linking all of my FB friends and FB for HTC Sense Friends to each other. But I can't imagine this is normal. Or is it?

If you are using Friendstream and like having a contact's facebook info, including pictures show up in your People application then keep the FB for HTC Sense and remove the other one. If you aren't using that stuff remove FB for HTC Sense and use the regular facebook. Neither one will give you notifications. FB notifications for Android have been broken since day one.
Have your fb notify you by the email you have linked to your phone and all is well.. Keep FB for HTC as this gives you higher quality images for contacts, where regular FB gives u crap quality images.

The higher images option was my selling point. Thanks! I disabled FB sync. I notice if I completely remove it, it signs me out of the facebook application.
My favorite feature is seeing people's statuses on the "People" application. If that and high quality pictures are from the FB for HTC Sense sync, that's all I need!
Thanks for your input!
also found useful info googling "facebook for htc sense"

Thanks for this, Perfect!
(Sorry to drag up an old thread)
The only benefit I can think of for the normal Facebook app is that you can go directly to one of your contacts FB pages if its linked to their contact.
For me, Facebook for Sense doesn't show me 3 of my contacts(so weird) so I just use the normal Facebook to link to those 3 contacts.
ok how do I get my FB friends pic to them when I text them as of now it just shows a grey person when I text them
If I remember right I removed FB for sense because it stuck a few hundred contacts on my phone that I didn't want. A lot of my FB friends are just people in which I share news with relating to politics, religion and social issues, not people I want to show up in my contacts list on my phone.
Is this a issue for others as well?
yeah that happend to me and all of my fb friends where in my contacts but it happen when I first set up the FB app you can pick sync all or sync with existing contacts.
but i want the fb profiles to my contacts when I text someone even though I may a different name in contacts vs the Fb profile they have.
The standalone Facebook application will do everything Facebook for HTC Sense does except the friend stream (but Facebook has it's own widgets).
Both will sync contacts and can use the Facebook picture as the contact picture.
To hide all those extra contacts you can choose to only sync contacts already in your phone or go to Contacts -> Display Preferences -> Hide anything you don't want.
To use the Facebook picture go to the contact. Make sure the 2 contacts are linked then click on the Facebook picture and choose set as icon.
Also the standalone app gives me notifications they just seem to be slow.
My phone won't let me have both facebook apps synced.
I am running coredroid. I don't know if the OP foresaw these problems or what. It will only let you select one or the other. However, the first time I opened the regular facebook app, it asked me to import my contacts, which I did. To my horror, facebook replicated of all my htc facebook contacts in the people app, so I had two contact cards for each person. Therefore I removed facebook contacts through the facebook app. There is a setting once you are inside the app to remove them. Even though I only have HTC Facebook contacts now, I have two different facebook icons. Some contacts have big, sort of vertical f's, and some have small, sort of diagonal f's. Not sure what these different icons signify.
Is anyone else experiencing contact pics not showing up on Handcent when running ICS?
They show us fine in stock messaging app.
Any fixes?
I'm seeing exactly the same issue.
If you tap on the ? where the photo should be the pop up shows the photo but no photo in the txt thread.
I've tried all the chmod fixes I've read about on here and the "fix permissions" included in recovery and nothing fixes it.
Emailed Handcent but also heard nothing.

Same here, I emailed Handcent and heard nothing.
I have read somewhere on here that it is due to the Facebook for HTC Sense being removed from the ICS ROM's (I'm using Android Revolution) and the normal Facebook app cannot download the photos properly as other contact photos in Google and Twitter are fine.
Just have to wait I guess.

Wrong.
The ICS has "Facebook for HTC Sense" but different from the previous one that we could interact with. The facebook pics of our friends appear on the contact list of the phone and stock message app thanks to the FB 4 HTC Sense!
What's going on is that it can't "push" the photos to handcent, GoSMS, etc.

Info from Handcent Support
I emailed Handcent asking them about the issue. This was their reply:
As it is limited by new Google system, third party softwares could not get permissions to access facebook to get data in order to protect user privacy. Could you pls use local contact list or sync Gmail.
As you might expect, I do already have my Google (and Twitter/LinkedIn/Last.fm etc.) accounts synchronised with my phone, but since HTC seems to prefer setting my contacts' Facebook photo as the default (even after I've changed it) I seem to be at a bit of a dead end.

I experienced the same after updating my sensation to 4.0.
It happened because the account for "facebook for htc sense" got deleted, this one used to function as a bridge between facebook and normal contacts so that whatsapp could get its syncs from there. Whatsapp can somehow not sync directly with the normal facebook app so I guess you have to do without the pictures.
But if someone knows a solution, I'd be glad to hear !
I was using HTC Sensation before. The contact picture from Facebook of my friends would show up on Handcent. For some reason, this isn't the case on my HTC One S. I tried to login on Facebook and didn't work. Was wondering if anybody has a solution? Thanks.
Not sure if this will work but apparently there's some restrictions on facebook contact photos. I found an app called Photo Unlocker that made them show up in whatsapp for me when they previously wouldn't. It's not on the play store anymore for some reason though but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere.
It is the same for whatsapp. I saw the facebook picture of the contact and now it doesn't.
I believe it has something to do with ICS, there is no option to sync fb contacts with any of my devices running ICS. Things are fine with older firmware like GB or HC.
It worked on my HTC Sensation when i updated to ICS though.
you may as well find the photo unlocker software and see if it helps for you. It certainly fixed whatsapp pictures for me.
Anyone on ICS will have this issue as for some reason Facebook has an issue giving permissions to 3rd party app's...
This means no photos from facebook will show up in Handcent...
MAJOR FAIL....
Handcent has been claiming that they will get it fixed ASAP... yet, it's been over a month or two... no fix...
