PIM Backup

Ive saved a backup of my contacts using PIM Backup because i have to change into a non-wm phone. is there a way to view the Backup file using my pc or symbian phone?
anyone knows how?
you can. read my related articles
I do believe you can export the contacts to csv format and many of the Contacts managing tools will allow importing of csv separated data.
Hope this helps
copy the pim backup file to your pc rename the file to a zip file eg. if its called pimbackup15072008.pib rename it to pimbackup15072008.zip. Once you have done this you can simply extract the files inside the zip then you can import them into any device that will accept csv files

Hide media folders

Looking for an app, mod, commandline, something, that can make a folder on my SD card, not be read by the gallery.
Id like some stuff to not show up in the gallery by default. The same would be nice for music as well, something that will allow you to select a folder on the SD card to not include music files in the music app.
Anyone know of anything like this, whether it be an ADB command line, something i can do in terminal with su, an app, a mod, etc etc?
Create a file named ".nomedia" and put it in the folder you are trying to omit
Another tip to stop a folders contents showing in Gallery is to simply put a "." (a fullstop/period) infront of the folder name.
Also, to refresh the galleries once you've done the above, go into Dev Tools and run 'Media Scanner'
Thanks for the replies... seems simple enough. Thank you for all the suggestions.
Just to give you a little more breakdown, the easiest way to do this (from a Windows PC) is to create a blank text file on your PC and copy it to the folder on your SD Card, then use an explorer app like Astro File Manager to rename it to .nomedia (since Windows won't let you name a file .nomedia).

That's exactly what I did. Once on my SD card, I used astro to copy paste it to the other directories I wanted to exclude.
Again, thanks for the help.

would that be a working work-around solution for such badly written apps such as Asphalt 5 (which makes its music & sounds appear in the Music playlist)?

sure, assuming you have:
A. some kind of root level file explorer (ES File explorer, root explorer, etc)
B. once in said root level file explorer, you set the /system partition to be read/write (in root explorer, just tap the r/w at the top of the screen when in /system)
Thanks for answer.. Yes i have root explorer just was wondering if this files are not connected to some other settings..
If Im not mistaken you can just make a folder in the root of your internal SDcard and name it ringtones. Put all the files in that folder and reboot your phone. The tones should them be selectable in the ringtones menus

[Q] How to move apks while using scripts???

Guys how to copy apks to one of the system folder while using int2ext script??
While using link2sd I used to copy any apk from sd card and paste that file to \system\app\...............
I tried to copy an apk to that folder(yeah i changed the permissions) but it dissappeared. Learnt that while using int2script it moves apks to some other folder called data. Experimented with it but no avail.
You are doing it right /data folder is for user downloaded apps put it in /system/app. Try again it happens sometimes
Or install titanium backup and select update.zip
Now it will create a zip replace the titanium backup app from it with the one you want and flash it

duplicated files?

This is probably a stupid question but I need to know.
I used an app (SD Maid) to see the file distribution in my 32Gb sdcard. Does the screenshot below mean that all my files are duplicated? The contents of both
/storage/emulated/0
/data/
seem to be identical.
—why is one labelled 'private' and the other 'public'?
—When using a file manager, does deleting a file in one delete it in the other? If so, which is the real file and which the copy.
—does it matter which one is deleted?
Thanks
