[Q] CWR or 4Ext ? - HTC Sensation

I own paid version of cwr and been using it for a while. On my last device cwr was the recommended even tho twrp and others were around. I've only had this phone for roughly two weeks, but I'm familiar with unlocking, rooting, s-off and so forth.
I've noticed some ROM releases like the new AR requires 4Ext. Aside from little calculators on backup and what not, what real difference is there. I'm currently using cwr touch recovery.

4ext began as cwm based, but grew much since, it was the first to support touch recovery, and has some extra features. I also feel it is being updated more frequently, and might have a larger community behind it.
I'm not entirely sure why some Roms, like ARHD which I'm using, requires it, I simply enjoy it better.

4Ext better than CWR

ARHD requires it because of the update script style for the roms is programmed to interact with 4ext's coding style for the touch system
Sent from my Sensation in UrQuan subspace

definitively 4EXT.
It's just more intuitive.

4ext is so so much better on sensation from cwm , cwm gouch recocery already has many bugs on senaation

Yup, 4EXT is better because you can choose the add ons you want installed like what kernel etc.

To me 4Ext is MUCH better for all the added features it offers and CWR it is just trying to catch up with 4Ext. I honestly feel that 4Ext left CWR far behind.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

4EXT hands down due to the great support and frequent updates as well as having a great UI

This response is overwhelming, i need to try it out.

Can I do it and what Tom will be best for it?

Hi. I have unlocked bootloader, cwm recovery and I'm s-on. I can't change to s-off becouse of hboot version. Witch rom will be the best for speed and stability+gaming
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
For best aesthetics and performance, any AOSP ROM will do. Personally, I recommend CM7
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Can I use cm7 to if I have s-on??
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
yes, you can. Although you'll need to flash the boot.img separately.
Why I need to flash boot image separately ? I can't just use rom manager to downlaod and instal??
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
sadly,no. You are not completely s-off (and you can't be s-off on new HBoot). You can flash ROM any way you want, but it won't boot until you flash the boot.img via fastboot.
Why always it is so complicated? ?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Sire it may be complicated at first, but it is really worth rooting and using a custom ROM.
They are x10 better than stock in every way

I will wait for full root on new hboot. I don't want to downgrade and then use revolutionary becouse revolutionary hboot is.not healthy for this phone

Nah, your wrong.
How is it not 'healthy for the phone'
doesn't make sense at all. Doubt there will be a new way to unlock it.
You'll just be on stock forever

Downgarde process is easy or pretty complicated? ? I read post about it and don't get it what do I need to do.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Well, I haven't tries myself to downgrade, so can't say.
Your decision. Do lots of reading before hand.
Its worth it though

Sent from my HTC Desire S
I wasn't so hard but yes I made some mistakes in process wrong commands and I forgot to relock bootloader and I couldn't ruu old version. Now I'm all done and wana ask for the rom, witch is good and stabile
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Depends what your after mate
Do you like Sense, or do you want to try ICS? Or maybe pure 2.3 AOSP ROMs?
-------------------------------
Sent from my HTC Desire S
Ilike ICS but they are are not pretty complete, I want to try that CM 7 but there poeples saying it has SMS delay and I'm a big tiper. ICS only when they will implemente hardware acceleration
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
I've used cm7, oxygen and miui.us all are pretty good and stable but I prefer miui.us looks nice and it all works. Battery life and performance is good too.
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
SMS delay? None here
Be sure to use the latest stbale build. Not nightlies if you want a bug free experience

When you first flash a ROM, your battery will drain faster on the first few charges
Try calibrating your battery. After that your battery should get much better

New to sensation 4g

How your doing everyone just wanted to introduce myself I just came from the galaxy s 4g forums. So lame I had to upgrade. I just got rooted yesterday and just need to know a little more info on super cid and flashing ruu firmware I been reading on it alot but I don't know which roms need the super cid or not any help or a point into the right direction will be appreciated. Thanks in advance looking forward to these forums
Sent from my MIUI.us Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
The super cid would only be required if you're going to flash any ics 4.0.3 rom to prevent boot loops or getting stuck on the splash screen

Hows that android revolution from I see 4 of them on the op just don't know which one to go with
Sent from my MIUI.us Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Android revolution and insertcoin are both really great ics roms if you want the full sense experience, but for me, I prefer ics being aosp like because I think its really nice and polished looking which is why I would use virtuous inquisition if you want senseless
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e with Beats Audio using XDA App
yo welcome!! same here i used like sense soo much back when it was like 2.1 days, but with ICS coming around and being able to play with it, AOSP is now what im looking for. just waiting for the CM9 to be released. hopefully soon, till then virtuous inquisition is what im using
It's worth having Super CID simply as you'll not have to worry about having to do it again if a ROM requires it.
I'd give the Virtuous ROM series a go if you're after a AOSP style experience or ICS Sense, and I can happily say ARHD is brilliant too.
Thanks for the replies I just did the super cid and flashed the p58img that starts with 3.12 and everything is fine it just says locked on the boot screen and hboot 1.23 am I good to flash that virtious Rom now

Well if you want to be on the super safe side, I guess a super wipe would be in order. Otherwise, a factory/data wipe should be fine.
Ok cool I appreciate everyone's help I'm not a noob just new to HTC Im just used to the Samsung galaxies they don't have none of this bootloader bs and fast boot I appreciate everything guys this forum is wary more friendly than the gs4g forums. We didn't even have cm7 or miui that's why I had to upgrade I'm loving this phone already

[Q] Is ROM Manager necessary?

Hi all,
I have a Sensation Z710e running AR HD 4.1.13, Sense 3.5
I have both ROM Manager and 4EXT on the phone but lately the ROM Manager keeps asking to force close for some reason
So is it necassary to have to have both of them on the phone?
Or is there a way that it can be fixed?
Tia, maff
You Don't need ROM Manager. I assume you have 4EXT recovery?
Yes I have 4EXT on the phone
Stop using ROM Manager, it's much better to learn what you're doing manually so you understand what's actually happening
+1 although CWM here, same difference.

I've never used rom manager.

pure AOSP with all the improvements CM9
I downloaded the .zip file and browsed through the files in it. It seems to be a legit ROM with a CM9 bootanimation I have not seen yet. It has pretty basic apps prepackaged with it, it does have ROM Manager with it. I have not got the build.prop to open yet but i only have tried opening it with Notepad so I will have to try another program later.
I have not flashed it to a Sensation as I do not have my Sensation right now. I just wanted to add some more info to this thread as it has very little info right now. So please do not ask any questions about how does it preform or can you give screen shots.
Will flash but is it compatible whit superwipe??

You know that is a real good question. It seems like it was built from scratch using CM source. Alteast that is the impression I get from "picked from review.cyanogenmod.com" line at the bottom. I mean it does appear to take you to the CM site.

Most popular recovery?

Hey everyone, i just wanted to know what's the most popular recovery used. Why and why not use it or others. Thanks.

4ext ftw.
Wysłane z mojego HTC Sensation Z710e
TWRP. Fastest and most bug-free recovery for me. (on the downside you need S-off to install kernels with it)
most users are using 4ext
if i am not wrong
4ext is my choice and many others choice also. It's easy to use and has great options.

Yes 4 EXT also overhere working fine
same here: 4ext
Well then rom manager app renders useless now

4ext. If you're not using that your not playing with the big kids!
Apparently there is supposed to be some exciting changes to it soon also.

For some reason, 4ext was really buggy and laggy for me so I decided to S-off and install TWRP

I use 4ext on my phone and TWRP on my tablet, and I like both of them.
I use 4EXT Touch Recovery
First flash CMW and then flash 4EXT THE BEST
CWM no contest
4ext from day 1. Hasn't failed me yet. I keep it updated too.
4ext
I think 4ext is the most widely used recovery. SmartFlash makes it stand out.
