[Q] Finding Model Number (Bx0) - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked up, I've looked down, I've searched the forum high and low, but either the answer is so obvious it doesn't need to be asked, or I'm just not looking hard enough. How does one find which model of Transformer one has?

to the right of the charging/docking connection theres a sticker with the serial number, the 3 first letters is what youre interested in.

Yeah, that means it was manufactured january 2012.
The first letter tells which year it was manufactured, so B means 2011 and C means 2012.
The second letter tells month, 1 being january

That's a heck of a guide, I've been fooling around with the transformer for a fortnight now and I still learned a lot of really neat stuff. I'd suggest adding the ADB code for getting out of the "recovery default boot" problem people have been having (which, for the life of me, I can't find)
EDIT: found it
adb shell dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
adb reboot

Bricked my Magic?

Hi,
my Device is a 32B Device.
i tried to change my vodafone Splash-Screen, so i followed this howto:
showpost.php?p=3843361&postcount=7
nk02 said:
with windows or linux (on wine + net framework 2):
1)download this
password "androidsocket"
2)with createG1splash create your splash (mysplash.rgb565) from a gif or png 332x498
3)put the splash file ( mysplash.rgb565 ) in sdk tools/ directory
4)boot the magic in fastboot mode (witch back+power)
5)on terminal (in sdk tools/ path):
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 mysplash.rgb565
fastboot reboot
(you need [here is a link, but as a new user i cannot post links, look at the original post] haykuro spl to flash splash screen!)
in this thread there are some splash jpg/gif !

This howto is linked in the newbie topic btw.
So i flashed the haykuro.spl using the recovery Menu(i booted it from fastboot), but now my phone doesnt work.
Power + Back at the start => no reaction.
Power + Volume Down => no reaction
Power + Home => no reaction
It doesn't boot anymore, the Vodafone Splash Screen freezes.
And if i plug it on my pc, the usb device cannot be recognized.
I think i bricked my Magic ...
I don't understand how this could happen!?
Any Suggestions?
Did you just say you flashed Haykuro's Death SPL?
brick. sorry, no response to "special" boots and no usb = brick
could you possibly list what you did, start to finish, just so we can better understand what's happened? i'm not entirely sure - did you successfully get a new splash screen and then change the spl and that's when it all went bad, or what?
personally, i can live with just about any splash screen, the risks involved with changing it are certainly not worth it imho...
it does nothing at all ? or you got the blue led? if its same advenced as a brick (it does absolutly nothin can be a specific hardware problem not big deal it happend to me because of that even the jtag didn't work )

I second that.... Did you honestly flash this, to an already rooted phone... just to change your spalsh screen?
I keep forgetting how hard it is to READ and COMPREHEND things now a days.
Sorry, but your phone is done for. No amount of questions you ask will change that.
It's people like this that make me afraid to ask questions around here.

Dude, I JUST started having this issue as well! I have a 32a and I was updating my Radio/SPL for 32a Devices and now I can do nothing... I just got the phone yesterday haha... so yea
And replaced at Tmobile a few hours ago
Good thing we have all these (to put it nicely) less than average intelligent human beings to keep hiking up costs for the rest of us with their fraudulent claims and pure stupidity of not knowing how to read.

Wow... you have no idea the situation nor the circumstance that people brick their phone. It only takes a small mistake to do so. I just came from having a G1 which I modded and updated constantly just about every other day trying new things. I took apart the phone to replace the physical keyboard and ended up damaging a cable from the screen. I went to Tmobile store and purchased a Fender edition MyTouch which is special in a few ways. I had no problem rooting the phone with the Goldcard method, aside from finding a working 2gb sd... I decided to upgrade the 32a SPL and radio which bricked my phone. I see no reason why it would have bricked it but I wont be trying it again.
Everyone i repeat EVERYONE makes mistakes, all be it some make some pretty wild ones... but we are all Human and calling people idiots that do not know how to read and follow directions will not help anyone here.
These forums are designed to help and assist those who want to get the full potential out of their phones and customize to their own personal wants and needs. We should all be here to help those with questions (even dumb ones... sigh) for none of you would have the knowledge you have if you had not learned it. So please stop the bigotry and ignorance and be a little more helpful to those with issues. For those who have issues, dont go blaming the devs for messing up your phones, you know the risks so proceed cautiously and learn from your mistakes.
Fact is if you had followed directions exactly you wouldn't have bricked your phone. It's doubtful the tutorial was wrong.

What? Another assumption already! I'm not calling anyone an idiot (in this thread LOL) haha, I simply agreed about the people bricking, not following wonderfully provided instructions and hiking up the costs. Sorry to be an ass, but if you stopped coming to those assumptions, perhaps your first phone wouldn't have been a nice brick!

I never said the tutorial was wrong just that I made a mistake in picking the wrong one or messing up somewhere... obviously.
I'm not assuming anything... its fact you only have a general idea of how someone breaks their phone in that they made a mistake, but that you dont know how or the circumstances that caused it...
I wasnt assuming you were calling anyone an idiot and sorry I used your post to quote and not the others before generalizing "anyone" who breaks their phone as an idiot who cant follow directions. It could easily be that someone was not aware of specifics and hastily updated items that are not for their particular phone or missed a step.
In life it is far too easy to make mistakes, better to sympathize, say do better next time, and move on... simple as that.
I, for one, can't help but laugh when I make some mistakes. I was fully prepared to pay for another phone because I knew what "I" did broke it and no one was to blame but myself. Life goes on, pick yourself up and move forward. Sorry??? that I took a particular interest with a fellow mytouch user who mistakingly messed up and put the phone in the "break" status. I work as an IT Administrator for many large companies and mistakes can happen all of the time, I'm just glad they can happen to me and not a client
We all know the risks involved when we mess around with the phone. I also had no idea what a bricked phone did when bricked... until this morning

[Q] Continuous Reboot - Help!

OK, got ClockworkMod installed. Got the system flashed with VeganTab 5.1beta. Was following the steps to do the market fix. Got to the step to do the reboot...
...and now it comes up with the Viewsonic screen... then the VeganTab background... then goes black... then comes up with the Viewsonic screen...
Trying to run through ClockworkMod again, I go to where you are supposed to mount the Data partition, and I get an error message.
Help!
OK... just for the next poor schmuck...
Bring up ClockworkMod
Go to Advanced
Go to Partition SD Card
Select 2048 for the first value
Select 0 for the second value
Wait for a couple minutes
Reboot
That was a bit scary, but I guess a lesson learned
And this is listed multiple times around the forums.

Funny thing, but I did a search for "Continuous Reboot", and didn't find any matches in this forum. May I respectfully submit that someone add this to the opening sticky FAQ so that people (such as myself) who might be a tad panicked can find that reassurance they need quickly?
Of course, part of this is getting used to a tablet with Android after several months of using an iPad. The "assumptions" you make about what works and what doesn't can get you into trouble

Gets into a tricky area we run into in my day job - just because WE would use a certain search term doesn't mean our users would. But if you cross reference too many terms than you can end up with too many "almost" answers to find what you're really looking for.

Help on installing Ubuntu

(Please feel free to ignore the first two paragraph until the problem).
First of all, I would like to thanks everyone in this forum for the excellent extensive help. I been hanging around the corner here for a little while (... perhaps 2 or 3 months?) and finally I hit dead bottom. I been buscando la verdad (just learned this phrase the other day... anyway,) for a while in this labyrinth world and I just happen to meet this minotaur over and over again. So I finally decided: once I gain the proper knowledge, I will aid to those who need help.
So my problem is quite "noobish" actually. And I must admit, I'm quite a noob in the field of Android (but strangely that contradict for me in Windows). After watching that "for noobs" video, I certainly feel so much more noobish. So any expert out there, please accept my apologies for my oblivious questions. I hope you will hear me.

Problem Starts Here:
I recently bought a Transformer on Black Friday and I must say: I'm certainly pleased. Still, its power are much still concealed and I make plans to destroy that barrier. I wanted to install Ubuntu, but as my research continues, I learned that such was not possible for newer models. This is only possible for devices with serial code "B60-" and under and some "B70-"; however I my code completely split off that trend. Instead, my serial begin with something like "037c7..."
Even with this, I continue on and try some tools such as Frank's tool.
Please, can anyone help me? I would be especially grateful for a guide for such "noobs" like me. I know this is much to ask for and I certainly shall express a gratitude as equally high. Thank you very much for hearing my problem and more than ever if you can assist me.
you aren't looking at the serial then, but rather looking at something else, ALL asus serial numbers start with a date code which is Bx (will be Cx in a couple of weeks time) have a look at the bottom of the tablet there will be a sticker that has S/N: BxOKASxxxxxx

Just got a Refurb TF101 from Walmart, Serial No. starts with B00

I just got a refur Transformer OG from Walmart but it has the Serial number starts with B00. I don't see the usual B70 or B80 or likewise. What method should I use to root it? Can I try to use Razorclaw? I know I can use nachoroot but I am not that familiar with ADB and stuff. Thanks!
That's not right. It's in hex and it indicates what month the TF was manufactured in. For example, B7 was manufactured in July. BA was manufactured in October. There's no such thing as BO or B0. Can you check it again?
Well that's what I have on the box it was the brown box, not the retail box. Is there any other way I can get the serial number?

You're not familiar with the copy and paste functions on a desktop?
There is only one sticker which is kind of transperant and hard to see. Is that the one you are referring to? I tried to see through that but I didn't find any combination of hex numbers. Will look again.

You can become root regardless of the serialnumber.
Serialnumber is only important if you want to use nvflash (only < B70). But it is also possible to check if nvflash will work (or here).

Granted texting is legal in Texas but I don't think the law sayings anything about browsing the web. People in general need to start being a little smarter when they are behind the wheel.

I agree with being safe behind the wheel. Of course when I say driving I was not literally driving. There's a few cities around here that made it illegal to text behind the wheel.
I do look at my phone, check messages when at a stop light sometimes.

He said he's not familiar with adb so he's too scared to do a nachoroot. But nachoroot only involves copying and pasting. So, in other words, he must not be comfortable with copying and pasting.
serial number is on a small clear sticker on the bottom of the screen next to the connector to plug it into the dock printing is in black not the sticker that is on the back and printed in white only way of viewing it is to remove tablet from dock as it is hidden when attached to dock.

1) ICS was confirmed to Asus to come this month.
2) unwritten rule of development. Do not ask for ETAs. It'll get here when it gets here.
to add to the post above
3) it is a written rule to search before posting
4) there is a thread called 'Asus once again confirms ics for february' right here within eye sight of the 'new thread button'
5) that's funny right there
Sorry my bad;/
To add to the above: Any release date you're told, even by Asus themselves, is a work of total fiction. They've already claimed just about every date you can imagine, and the only consistent thing is that there will be another statement from Asus within a week, contradicting the previous one.
Today, it's Asus France, saying "not til the end of February".
I'd guess early-mid March is optimistic, late March is realistic.
Funny thing you made a thread about this, considering this is the only thing which has been discussed in this forum since new years, and even before that.
You'd think it would be easy to find existing news on this

I agree. Make sure to search the forum before making new threads.
It will come when it comes
I really wish that xda would force new members to physically type the sentence, " i will use the search function before posting a new thread" in order to activate their account. This would drastically cut down on the number 1 most violated rule.
Can you get to the recovery menu? vol down and power?
If so grab one of the updates from the asus download page pop it onto your microsd extract it so that you see /asus/update/filename
reboot to recovery and that should do it..... if it doesnt take the file from /asus/update rename it EP101_SDUPDATE.zip and try again.

This will get Asus to open up:
Everyone send a message via Twitter to @Asus stating "Is the TF101 ICS OTA still confirmed for Feb 14?"
You know, they said mid Feb so we can hold them to the 14th. This will get them to fess up and give is a revised date. It will also cause them to wonder if @Asus gave the public a Feb 14 date at some point, second guessing themselves. Lol.
