Android 3.0 even possible on LG G2x? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm pretty new to LG G2x, and just wondering if it's even possible to have a ROM based on Android 3 or even 4?

Android 3.0 is only for tablets. So in other words, no. However, several 4.0 ROMs are in the G2x development section such as AOKP and Hellfire Sandwich. Just warning you that they're not as stable as 2.3 ROMs (at least for now.)

3, no. 4, yes and there's already a couple in the dev section.

Next Android 5.0 Jellybean will be for tablets. Android 6.0 Key Lime Pie will be for phones.

Nope.
Jelly bean will be what ics was supposed to do, which was to defragment the os which we know as android and let two become 1. Meaning tablet and smartphone integration, ive read on google that jellybean will support both platforms.

Well, I have a G2X with ICS, and an ASUS Transformer running ICS as well, so the "integration" you speak of is happening now. I'm sure there can be refinements, but the OS version is the same; this isn't a feature waiting for the next version, unless I'm just missing what you're trying to say.

I feel like it'll be more like a Froyo -> Gingerbread type change in the looks department.
Rather than a Gingerbread -> Honeycomb type deal.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

I did a search on Google on what is next after ICS and some sources are saying "Jelly Bean", now I have to say I am not totally sold yet on ICS because I ran TeamHacksung's builds on a cappy (BTW Great work) and while the developers did a great job I am just not a fan of the overall UI and maybe that's because I was so used to GB. Anyone else hear about JB?

I think you are confused about ICS is. ICS is an upgraded version of the Android Operating System. While ICS does include UI changes (seen mostly in AOSP versions) that is no guarantee Jellybean will..in fact, i'm willing to bet that changes to the UI will be minimal. If you purchase a phone that isn't a nexus running AOSP, you aren't going to see many changes in the UI. You are still going to see your touchwiz, sense, blur, etc. Anyway, the great thing about android is that you can make it look however you want with the unlimited amount of customization options.
Seems too soon for 4.1 already, who knows, it could be a minor build like lowandbehold was saying with minor UI changes.

Pretty much guaranteed
any 4.x release will be ICS 5.0+ I would place a wager on the name Jelly Bean. I would hope to see some UI customization, perhaps a few tweaks from Cyanogenmod. (like google kanged everything else in ICS.) for example in 5.0+, custom icons and colors everywhere... one can only hope..

Jelly Bean was unveiled
According to droiddog they are saying Google unveiled Jelly Bean at the MWC, I heard that it was suppose to come out this year as well. That is crazy seeing ICS is not even on 10 devices yet officially.

Well technically they didnt reveal the name of the next OS they just showed jelly beans.
But I for one am expecting it to be 4.1 and not 5.0 like with the 2.x series of updates. It probably will just be some minor tweaks rather than another UI overhaul like ICS was.
I guess key line is in the works to lol

10 devices? I thought it was still only 1 device. Or you mean tablets too?
looks like android jelly bean 4.1 will be introduced tomorrow.
i have a question. if an update becomes available to download through Kies (samsung galaxy S3), would it erase the phone's data completely?
And if so, following a backup, will the data be able to be reinstalled now that a new version of the software may be available?
im just wondering if we will have to go through getting all contacts, facts, apps manually sorted yet again...
thanks
I'm not to "excited" about Jelly Bean.
It'll probably be am update like FroYo. Gingerbread brought UI changes in that chain of AOS Versions.

Ya ur probably rite hence the 4.1 version. Coding like froyo to gingerbread was cuz then ics at aosp version 4.03 atm won't get more than 7 different version changes before jelly bean becomes 4.1 if it was gunna be ground breaking like ics was they would have coded it 5.0

No, an OTA will not delete your data. Flashing a new rom on a rooted device you almost have to clear data. OTA's are data friendly

Chrome Browser for Android-- Can't download?

Hey folks,
So the Chrome team finally released Chrome for Android and you can find it here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome
But it seems like it doesn't support the G2x?
I can't find it on the Market App on my phone, and when I go directly to its page on the web and try to install it, it doesn't show a supported device. I wonder if this is only for rooted G2x's with custom ROMs, or if it just won't work on the G2x.
I have the latest SinghUI on mine, but I suspect Chrome just doesn't support LGE LG-P999's at all right now. Is it just me or is this happening to anyone else?
You need to have ICS (Android 4.0) for this app.
When you look at apps on market.android.com, it will show that on the right hand side, this app says:
REQUIRES ANDROID:
4.0 and up
So yes, doesn't support G2X yet, as G2X doesn't have 4.0
It only works with ICS according to the press release.
Oh. Duh. Thanks.

I don't think MIUI users think they are using ICS at least I hope not. They just added some ICS functions into the framework, but since the Galnet lists the OS as 4.0 in the system information it might work most likely not though.

Galnet MIUI is just a gimmick created to get users to use and support their work. Looks and functions exactly like Gingerbread MIUI.
If you go into most miui threads alot of people think they're running ics. A friend of mine who I didn't know was into hacking android was showing someone how he was running ics on his old htc. Personally, I wish Google would stop announcing new versions of Android before more devices are updated to the current version. I've been watching the cycle since I started on Android 1.5.

there is no info about it yet, way too early in the game
I wouldn't think of Jelly Bean as something that will be hugely groundbreaking. It will probably be an incremental type of update, like Gingerbread was for Froyo.

Actually Froyo (2.2) and Gingerbread (2.3) were incremental updates to Eclair (2.0, 2.1) and I agree Jelly Bean will most likely be a incremental update.

Froyo was not an incremental upgrade to eclair. Froyo brought us flash. Only androids that had anything flash before that was HTC with their own flash light which could do some light flash items. But adobe's flash was introduced with froyo and was a real game changer.
There was also chrome to phone that was introduced with froyo and I believe Google goggles also.
I've been with android for quite a while and haven't looked forward to any upgrade as much as I did froyo.

As I'm sure you're aware, we've not yet eve seen an official or unofficial ICS update yet -other than for international firmware users, and that's been the long anticipated version to tear into. So, until we get our (most likely) official release of ICS there's probably not going to be any work done on any other versions. Unless, of course, we get a leak that will work for our US versions.

ics and jb min requirments

G1 actually supports ICS and there is at least 1 active dev working on JB for D/S.
Anything can technically support it.. it's just a matter if it has good enough hardware to run it as well as it is advertised.

Some hardware differences (mt3g has larger nand partition, no kb) but basically the same.. They can even interchange radios and spl's.
