I have been a member for years. I don't post often but read a lot. (More people should.) I have over 10 posts but I am not able to download. Is it because I haven't posted in so long? I was able to download a little over a month ago no problem but now it says I don't have 10.
When you are absolutly sure, that u only cant download from this website,
then you should contact an admin by using the contact form!

I've got the same problem. But the first link is useless (for you). You need to click the second link.
The first one says "Thank you." to the author.
And that seems to be forbidden for users without ten posts.

awww bless congratulations on your first post.
that link doesnt work for me either.

agreed, im trying to post up a how to guide with photos for the galaxy note and it wont even let me, now ive got to make up another 6 or so nonsense posts still before im allowed, I feel like im spamming but unfortunetly its the only way!
I can understand the 10 post limit, however there should be an option to be invited by a friend or even a developer.
LOL....Not enjoying this 10 post rule but I understand it. Been reading these forums for months and finally decided I wanted to help out in some of the dev threads and learned I couldn't yet. I remember what it was like being a noob so have some patience for it. But happy to be a part of this community!

Congrats on #10! This post will probably be deleted now. hahaha!
Annoying
The first 10 posts r really annoying!
i dont have 10
I somehow agree...
Well, all the forums are affected by a strange epidemic problem: Noobs that start to post few things like "I like it" just see their counter going up.
I am a new "NOOB" here too and this is my second post but all I wanted to do is to give a feedback to one developer about a ViewPad7 ROM I downloaded from here two weeks ago. It was not one of the classic "Please I need this function working on my VP7". It's a valid feedback with some advices but I cannot.
So I believe that sending a PM to a developer and then developer sending you an invitation to take active part to a discussion.. will be a nice feature.
Same for me but I am new.
Been trying to get permissions to post in the dev forums, to be frank, the main reason i registered as its what xdadev is renowned for.
Got more than 10 posts, not really being GIVEN a reason, per se, that explains why I cant post yet
It's a good idea though, but if I meet the freaking criteria, it should be letting me in!
Yeah I get it for new comers that just want a quick fix without searching the forums and doing their homework and for spam. I can donate on a dev site but can't post? What gives.

Glad I'm not the only one frustrated beyond believe with this STUPID, I'm gonna say it again IDIOTIC rule. I get it, we don't need NooBs spamming the forum and I respect XDA immensely but for the sake of everything that's sweet and evil I can't even express my gratitude to my precious Devs for the hard work they did on the ROM I have been using for months now :/ Yes, I can hit the thanks button, I can donate but still I want to voice my excitement! Now, I'm done venting and apologize for spamming. Android FTW!

My, but that is a nuisance, isn't it? I know it's meant to keep newbies from cluttering up the dev forums with inane questions, but some of us do have valuable things to contribute to those forums despite being new to this particular site. Anyway, I have the same problem, but it's probably just a matter of time until I hit that magic limit, as you apparently did a couple posts ago.
Yea, But im no where near a noob. I work for U.S.Cellular and Im not asking ?`s and giving what I know about things and helping people.
You have to post more than 10 replies, then you can reply to "Rom related posts".
let me check which is this post i am posting
same problem here
This is insanely annoying, I am sought of new to the forums but have been installing roms and tweaks to android.for years. I.read those forums and can contribute a lot of stuff but aren't able to post yet. there are not many non-developer forums that have many things worth posting about.

can also bring with it a lot of spam so people hit the magic number......possibly like this post
The general situation is still acceptable since your case is rare.

I have the same problem ((
I also have the same problem, but I've read what the administrator of this forum said... "please do 10 posts to be able to post in other forums".
btw. this is post #9 for me, one more to go and I'm good to go.
Same here, only subscribed to thank the dev of the rom i'm using, but i can't thank his post untill i reach the number of 10 posts
I will post

Is 10 posts the magic limit?
I would like to be able to post to try to resolve some of my issues, but I'm also trying to answer questions in the meantime so.... whatever.
Well to add some sense to this:
I have the same problem, but I do have more then 10 posts.. This kinda bugs me since I'm pretty experienced and I have a question, which I can't post now..
EDIT
Allright for some reason now I can post. Ignore this post please, maybe I was a bit to impatient.

Why is it that I have to wait ten postings long to ask a question concerning a problem with a ROM I'm using? You want me really to do some generic blabla to wait till I'm "qualified enough" to post on a thread in the developement section? Oh and in the meantime I'll go to a public phone instead of using my mobile that is not working due to a problem from one of the ROM's on here. That is not very user friendly to say the least.
And eight more postings to go........

Dear Zelendel,
this has nothing to do with missing research. I've been using ROM's from the xda-community for some time now and never had any unsolvable problems so far. Therefore I had no reason to post. Right now i'm encountering a strange behaviour with the newest update of the ROM I'm using. And since there is no solution described in the thread of this ROM so far, I wanted to contribute something to make the developer aware of this problem and to better the ROM. Where else would user comments be more needed than in the developement section? What would be development without user feedback? Nothing, I'd say. And if you don't think so, you can delete half of the comments there since they're often not saying more than "oh, wifi support is missing, why is that", "can you integrate that feature from...", etc. And someone with 20 postings can write as much **** there as someone with five postings, and they often do. So the number of postings is not necessarily a quality indicator. It's just delaying feedback and in my case the recovery of my phone.
This not ment to insult anyone on this board, it's great to have it, it's a source of great software and information. It's just sometimes you can't relate to specific board rules and it's frustrating because it's hindering you getting problems solved.
Happy holidays...
Did you try sending a PM to the Dev? Or maybe one of the regular rom users? This is normally alot faster way to get a reply. Most issues have been come across at least once before.

Its to cut down on the n00b crap that pollutes the dev forum. As already stated this is a dev forum not a support forum.
99.9% of things you could ask or post have already been posted so look and read before attempting to post.
Post your issue here and the rom you have issue with and Ill try and help, although its extremely likely all I will do is use search or read forum and get answer for you, which is what you should be doing really.
And before you said "I've already looked" etc, You obviously don't do it properly as this very topic you have created has already been created and discussed AT LENGTH!!

You may have been using ROM's for a long time, but obviously not XDA. The 10 post rule is to prevent spam from getting into the truly Development Forums. The moderators can deal with the spam in the general, but it has no place in the thread for a ROM. If you go through the pages of the general forum, you can find numerous spam posts. I'm not talking about a pointless post, I mean true spam...advertisements and such. These are posted by people with 1 or 2 posts. So instead of complaining, go to the off-topic section, knock out 10 posts in 30 seconds and you are good to go. It is protection FOR you, not AGAINST you.
I have been registered here for more then 2 years, I read and read and have questions from time to time. but either say screw the answer (if I cant find it) or look elsewhere.
I understand WHY the rule is a min. post count. But apparently there was something wrong with the site two years ago and the "Action Required to Activate Membership for xda-developers" email had problems. Without activating account you cant even see your profile OR post in the designated areas.... annoying to say the least since you dont even know that you didnt get an email you were suppose to.
So after resending the activation link just now on a hunch (and getting another error /shakes head) I am able to post and see my profile in full I believe, since the email came through despite the error on the board. Not to mention why I have 27 posts yet had to activate the account again!
Maybe the post count rule isnt the solution to the spam problem as it hinders the very development its meant to protect. Maybe with such a vast team to oversee things that harsher penalties for such spam posting could be implemented and the current post count rule be abandoned. But what do I know it seems the site fouled up in a unique way for my account....

I did send a private message to the developer and I have to see what comes out of this. But in my opinion it is a lot more molesting to write a p.m. than to post in a thread. Also I thought it might help others with the same problem to have it discussed in public.

I tried exactly this, trying to post ten comments in some trash forum or a very very old thread and guess what! You have to wait five minutes between postings as a "newbie" and even better the post was deleted just a few minutes later, resetting my post count to zero again. Seems like moderators take their job very seriously at 3 a.m. cet So no chance this way.

It seems you have more insight in the spam topic than I do. And it's good people look after spam. But sometimes these rules are just getting in the way of solving things.
As I pointed out before developers are nothing without the community and the feedback of the users. I guess most devs are not programming ROM after ROM just for the sake of it or giving it to their ten close friends, but to spread their good work to the community for everyone to benefit from it. And how many of the registered users on here are really devs? Is it more than 5 to 10%?
Posting my ROM-specific issue in the general section? How fast will moderators remind me that this is the wrong place and the posting will be removed or moved to the appropriate section. So maybe I will do this and get my post to the thread it belongs to without having ten postings after all
And yes I searched the thread all the way after the release of the recent ROM version to see if someone had the same problem. There were some hints people had, but no soultion was offered. So to boost problem solution and for the sake of solidarity with my fellow users I wanted to post there.
But maybe I will just save my time and instead of posting here any longer and just rebuild the phone from step one with a new ROM. Seems faster than to get help here.

Many moon's ago before implementation of post rules there wasn't just a small amount of spam and most of our time was dishing out bans and removing threads so the implementation is to help users and XDA it may be a gripe to new users but it saves work load in the long run.
Besides 10 posts without being SPAM is easily achievable.

No need to create tipple posts, You have a "multi-quote" button or an "edit" button.
The 10 post rule has absolutely nothing to do with advertising spam, Its simply to do with not allowing new users to post questions etc since any questions they have will have already been asked and people was getting sick of seeing the same ****. The limit is there to force users to sit back and have a good read instead of jumping in and posting as soon as they reach hurdle.
Also do not listen to the person who told you to post knock out 10 posts in 30 seconds as they will just get pruned by mods after users report you.

Firstly, When did I say or infer that posting 10 posts and you're not a n00b??
I said that the 10 post rule is to stop n00bs joining up and immediately jumping in and posting without first searching. Also yes he will get reported and posts pruned, even in off-topic section if they are his first posts and simply spamming to bypass 10 post rule.
Secondly, "grow up"?? wtf are you talking about? Have you been smoking crack with your family today for Xmas? If you are going to reply or contradict me at least try and make sense.

Seriously, come on..
I fully understand this rule and I have "only" been a member since feb 2011..
Since I own a huge forum of my own I might have some info to bring forward to you.
If you allow newbies to post everywhere, where do you think the forum will be placed?
a) In the top of active forum list?
b) In the spammers heaven list?
And a follow up to that, where do you think a forum owner would like to end up?
All right kids knock it off. The 10 post rule is there for a reason and it is not hard to make 10 good posts.
As for the question of what would be posted if users couldn't post? Well check my sign for that answer. Before android hit the masses, the posts in Dev based threads were Dev related posts offering fixes. If something is broken in a rom your using then dig in and try to fix it. That is what XDA is here for. To help others learn. Rom makers do it for the fun of it and decide to share. Some also include small bugs to see who will try to help fix it by providing good info and possible fixes and who will post "huh this is broke please fix"
Meanwhile back at the ranch...
Ok, to end this thread, I restored the phone yesterday using the good old diy-trial-and-error method. Works like a charm again with the old ROM. I have to see where I go from here ROM-wise. I will probably change the ROM and move to a more user-focused community. Meanwhile the dev got back to my p.m. explaining what could have caused the problem, which is very kind of him. So thanks to ladyboo for helping out.

Yeah, I find this pretty frustrating too. I've always been a lurker on these forums because I hate posting just to post (read: get my count over 10), but the only forums I go in are the developer forums where I'm not allowed to post.
There was a time when a user was having a serious issue with his Kindle (I think, this was a while back), and I had the solution (I had the same problem a few days prior), but I couldn't post publicly even though it could have helped other people in the future (like when the original poster replies with the solution, not just "Nevermind, I fixed it" like you'll find on relevant forums all over the web).
But, alas, XDA wants to keep the noobs out and will sacrifice helpful content in order to do so.

Well, the simple fact is, the kindle fire issue should have been in the Q&A section. The only posts meant to go in Development threads are bug reports, not "OMG now my device isn't working!"
That right there is the exact reason they want users to wait 10 posts. So they can get a feel for the forums, and try to catch on a little bit. Instead of crying about 10 posts, go to the Q&A section and help 10 people out. Surely if you know enough to post in the dev section, you can handle that.

Actually this was a single reply in a very long thread regarding development, and how to get started developing. IIRC it was mac specific, so it was very relevant to the already existing topic. I PM'd the user instead.
And I can handle posting before they let me into the dev forums. But look at what I'm doing right now, responding to things that don't necessarily NEED a response, and posting to silly "how many devices have you rooted" threads.
Edit: I'm 90% sure this was the person I was trying to help. Had to do with the SDKs.

Must "Remember Me"
I had a very similar issue. Whenever I would try to post to any thread or even subscribe to a thread, I would get a screen asking me to log in even though I was already logged in. Logging in on that page simply looped back to the 'not logged in' page (infinite loop). I tried logging out and back in, and resetting my password with no change. I then tried to log in to the main page again and checked the 'Remember Me' option. Everything began to work as expected. FYI, this occurred using Google's Chrome Browser in Windows. I did not try any others.
I've written 33posts excluding this and still can't reply this thread. I'm writing this with my SGP.
I've found that when I see the vbulletin message, it automatically log out for that page, but when I click the "xdadevelopers" it says "Welcome, .."
Help (((

my case is simular I am runnig the DEV;s rom and a patch he made doesn't work for me and I wanted to report it to him
I am frustrated
Well i am testing some roms from xperia x10 mini pro forum, and would like to post some bugs founded.
But after reading all forum rules, I got frustrated with the need about 10 general post to be able to post in developer forums.
But if this is a rule of the forum so who am I to criticize this decision.
thanks at all
I understand the principle of the 10-post limit before I can post in a developer thread, but it means i have to post meaningless things in other areas just to get my post numbers up.
Thoughts?
No. That's NOT what you do. Post useful posts, not meaningless posts. If you post crap they'll just get deleted

Yes, the rule is very understandable. Since you know about Android you can easily look through threads and help some newbies out

I just went to the "General" and "Q&A" type forums here and for the devices I have and answered simple questions - so simple even a total n00b like me could say something useful !
To all the noobs, what makes you so special to where you will be exempt from the rules. Consider it a right of passage. If I had to endure, so shall you. Its not hard;to make ten HELPFUL posts. Stop copping out that's its an inconvenience and just do it!!
besides there are a lot of people asking questions that can benefit from your inputs in the general section

It's actually an incredibly stupid rule, just like the noob video on account creation. Assumes that everyone who browses the forums are brainless script kiddies and leechers, rather than those who came from other websites and development communities.
But we're thankful that it's only a 10 post limit, I suppose.
There has Been more than a thousand threads of this kind.
Instead of just fuming over the rule and wasting time, make use of it and be useful to others and get the 10 post count.
Reporting......
And BTW have a look at this thread if you are eager to post in dev forum.
LIFE! Enjoy it while you Still have it!
Thread closed
This topic has been discussed at length numerous times in many threads. There's really no need for another one.
I know XDA has the 10 post rule, but I signed up to fix an issue with thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890199
The old XDA thread is the top result on Google for renaming Android apps. Thread was renewed by Ashish Mundhra, a writer for www.guidingtech.com, whom necromanced this old tool that is no longer being developed. Normally instead of all this backstory I would have just posted:
A tool that is up to date, works, doesn't need Windows, and is still being developed.

When Google points me to a sour, stale, or dead thread, I like to point that thread to the new information that works if/when a solution is found.
It's disappointing I can't do this directly but I understand, so can one of you do it? I think the spirit of a site like this is community help and support.
Why I don't think this new post is forum necromancy:
Forums are great sources of information so long as the content is on point and furthers the topic. Post's like "It doesn't work for me." I believe is necromancy. However, providing a solution using modern hardware or an alternative I believe is a great asset to forums.
What are other user's thoughts? Would someone be able to update this thread for me? If not, why?
Why not actively posting on the thread you think it needs to be updated ? Whoever reads the thread would eventually see your post I guess ...
Do you want someone to add your thoughts on the first post of that thread ?
Unfortunately xanthrax, as a new member I cannot post to developer forums. I would need assistance from another member to do what you suggest.

Oops! Sorry, TehZig, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
New members (those with few posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and software. New users can read posts and download files, just cannot post for a bit.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.

Hi !
That`s ok and due to not enough posts count.
All new members must reach 10 posts across the forum in order to be able to participate on the development section by helping around .
This will make them get accustomed to our website before jumping into the development section.
No problem. I've lurked years but only now created an account.
As to the purpose of this thread, my thoughts were that I could possibly gather relevant post replies while debating my own topic for 10 posts.
The 10 post rule is a good one. Not everyone has dialed into information via BBS and used the internet before it became popular for information, instead of popular for instant messaging.
Well you're almost there, welcome to XDA [emoji6]
