I was dumb and I connected the microHDMI a couple months ago and obviously the phone overheated and couldn't hold a charge any more. After bringing the phone back to the store, they only gave me a new OEM battery. Now, 3 months later with the new OEM battery, I'm starting to wonder if there is permanent damage done to the phone itself, not the battery. I can barely scrape by with 1h30min of screen on time in one charge on a CM7.2 ROM with Faux kernel. Would updating to the new V21Y baseband or getting an anker 1550 mAh battery do anything? Or is there just permanent damage to the phone and and I am boned? Thanks
Interesting...would like to know as well because phone over heats as well when connected to hdmi
My phone gets a little heated when connected to the hdmi but I just underclock and everything goes smooth from there. Honestly I think it's a normal effect.
Nonono. I was one of the unlucky ones who's phone completely bricked after connecting to HDMI. I had to get the battery replaced because it wouldn't last 30 minutes.

Apparently, updating to V21Y has resulted in improved battery life. It has with mine and others. Updating isn't for anyone who isn't potentially prepared for a frustrating struggle and, once updated, except for a modded V21Y Android 2.3.4 ROM, no other ROMs will allow the phone's in-call audio to work - it just makes pulsating noise during a call. If you do get the phone to update with V21Y, try it out for a while. If you don't like it, use the same method you used to update to V21Y to revert back to V21E and you'll be back to being able to use all the modded ROMs including the ICS ones. Before you update to V21Y, save a CWM backup of your existing ROM which you can use to revert back to the installation you now have when after you reinstall V21E. You can't use CWM to reinstall V21E, you must use the KDZ updater with the V21E kdz file then use CWM to restore your V21E modded ROM and Kernel. Good Luck!
Yes, I've updated to V21Y using your thread, thanks. I'm pretty familiar with the whole process cause I upgraded to the July 11 baseband using the same method. Any ideas when the first V21Y ROMs will start coming out?

AFIK, kwes1020 is the only developer working on the V21Y Android 2.3.4 ROM. Everyone else appears to have focused on ICS or the previous V21E ROM or some other one. I think kwes1020 has chosen one of the best, if not the best, modded ROMs, Weapon, to modify the V21Y ROM. We're very fortunate that he is doing this.

After hearing many stories about people getting their phone fried from using the HDMI features, I've decided to not even let the cord touch my phone. Right now, to me there's not really a need for it.
From what I remember there were indeed some phones that were damaged due to some sort of incompatibility with particular HDMI cables. Some representative from Monoprice even came here and posted about it.
...and here's the original thread about it:

just underclock the phone so the phone doesnt push out maximum performance and drain the battery hella fast
Soo.. I overclocked my G2x at 1.2 GHZ running Eaglesblood 4.0.1. A few days later I was charging my phone and it got SUPER hot around the mainboard (the top area). Shortly after it was thrown in a pile of clothes and the battery popped out (oops). It won't turn on now. It recognizes the android recovery on the computer (pwr + up/dwn vol buttons) and I can flash recovery on it but it wont boot up. When i hooked it up to a charger (a wii) it displays the LG logo for about 5 seconds then the touch buttons lights up then it resets. Before today it would only display the LG logo for about .2 seconds then turn off (only when plugged into a computer).
What should I do? Could it be the battery, or did it overheat? Now, what should I do? Should I send in it for warranty (It had problems before anyways) and risk them being able to boot it and see that I OCd and rooted it?
Any help appreciated... Thanks

If you don't mind losing your internal sd card data you can try this and then flash the rom again to see if it fixes it.

I tried that (Thanks btw!). It formatted everything and sent the files over but it still does the same exact thing.
If I can't put a rom on it will they know I formatted everything? If so, will that void the warranty?

It seems like you have a stuck vol- button. Can you take a look and try tapping it lightly to see if it would release.
Don't know if they would if you have standard recovery... If you made a nandroid backup I can tell you how to push that... Then they should not be able to tell anything... Otherwise I think cwm is a dead giveaway

Actually most of the time you will be fine if you send in a rooted phone. There was a thread about this.

Yes, I forgot about cwm. I can flash stock t-mo recovery on before I send it in. How would I go about pushing a stock rom onto it?
Also, I don't think I have a stuck vol- button. I've messed with it countless times. I suppose I could take the phone apart and see if it's really stuck. Do you have any other advice? As of now the phone only turns on (it displays the LG screen but after about 5 seconds the logo disappears and the touch buttons at the bottom flash and it repeats. ONLY while plugged into a power source, though)
@zlopp - thanks!

You can use the reference link in the batch cleanup op. That one pushes stock 2.3.3. I don't think it is rooted either.
Does your phone boot loop or does it boot back into recovery?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
bootloop. I can't get it to go into recovery. It won't bootloop, or boot at all, unless plugged into a power source. Does that sound like possibly a failed battery? It was taking forever to charge and whatnot a few weeks prior..
Unplug the phone. Plug it into the wall. Hold the battery in the socket, but dont let it touch the copper conntectors. Turn the phone one. It'll show the lg screen. Before it turns itself off, plug the battery in.
let it charge for $15 mins and redo CWM recovery again.
6 month ago one of my friend g2x fried up the main boardduring charge, I have to paid $100 for broken phone to get the main board replaced

I can't believe it but it worked! However, once I flashed a rom and loaded it started giving problems. The battery indicator said 999% and the mainboard began getting a lot warmer than usual. Then it shut off. I turned it back on and the LG logo came up for 1 second then the screen flashed (A brief flash full of what looks like artifacts if a videocard were to fry) and it repeated the cycle. It looks like im sending this POS back to t-mobile

No problem. I was pulling my hair out when my phone did it too. It took a lot of experimentation to figure it out!
Now, onto the next problem. I suggest you run the g2x nullifier script to clean out anything on the rom. It might be messing with the phone. Then flash something known to be stable!
My phone also did the 999% thing. It was messing up a lot too, but the nullifier fixed it. Try it out

This SAME EXACT thing is happening to me except I had NO issues with the phone before. The battery had died down after a normal day of use, I charged it that night and then I wake up to it not powering on. Then with charger only a continuous bootloop of the white LG logo
My phone was running on stock 2.2 Froyo ROM. I first flashed it with CM7 Alpha 8 which is under development. It has some issues so flashed it with Kyrillos ROM based on 2.3. Was still not satisfied so tried going back to stock. downloaded the firmware from Samfirmware.com and started flashing with ODIN 1.81. After the downloading part, the phone switched off and never started. I think i might have flashed the bootloader which i shouldnt have and so my phone is not starting. On pressing power, Powe +home+down or Up button, nothing happens. No lights, no display, no sound.
What all things i have tried:
1. Tried charging the battery for 8 hours and then pressing power button. No go.
2. Power + home + volume down. No go
3. Power + Home + volume up. No go
4. connected the phone to usb without battery. while holding power + home + volume down key, reinsterted the battery. phone does not get detected on computer/odin.
I am pretty sure its a hard brick. If i give it to samsung, they will charge a bomb for motherboard replacement. I need to find a shop in mumbai with JTAG (its a device which can put the bootloader directly on to the processor). After some research i found this address:
Wonder Gallery
Manish Market, 1st Floor,
Shop Number No.27, Palton Road,
Mumbai 40001
Does anyone live or work nearby and can give me this guy's number? i want to confirm before i make a trip (i stay 100 Kms from mumbai). Anybody is vashi does a similar job?
Actually boot loader is a very small file and if flashing is completed then it might not be a brick. Are you sure your battery is charged. I saw in Motorola forums that after a hard brick the device will switch on but show a white screen or something
Edit :Sorry I just saw that battery is not the problem
Anyways did Odin show whether flash was successful or not?
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA
I think its a hard brick because files on samfirwire contain bootloaders and you hav messed it.
And as for JTAG,i think ebay or other similar websites should help.
And for the address call just dial, they might have the contact information of the person u mentioned.
Hope this helped
Sorry to break your hopes mate, but a massive fire had broken out at the place you mentioned a few months back. Although most of the restoration work has been done, still I highly doubt that the shops would be up and running so soon! Anyhow, just check with them once before planning your travel.

So if am not asking for too much, could you kindly share the link over here (the 3 pound one)?

Tried it, not working
hard luck if hard bricked
if your phone is hard bricked.. jtaging may get you into download mode, but, there also chances that it might lose its imei number after jtaging... my suggestion would be sell it off for parts .. and buy a new one.. that will easier.. repairing it will just keep on losing your money for repairs..... just buy a new and cheaper one like samsung galaxy Y .... it less of a headache... besides android phones are getting cheaper now-a - days....

Dude why suggest to sell a phone with strong development and buy a low legacy device
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA
Out of nowhere my phone started to restart randomly to the point when it looks like a boot loop. Also I have noticed that those boot loops occurs when my battery is below 50% and when I'm charged to 100% I can boot but after 3-4 minutes it goes to restart anyway. Also when I have turned off WiFi, GPS and BT there are no more reboots so far but I'm not able to turn on back WiFi, GPS or BT unless I will pull battery out and put back and turn on them back quickly but then I'm getting back those random restarts.
I'm on a stock but rooted Lollipop with TWRP.
I saw some threads with similar issues and were related to a battery but in those cases phones stay up when were charged or a battery pack and mine has still if is connected to the wall or a battery pack.
Any clue what is going on?
Thanks
OK now I'm not able to get to the Factory Reset screen (Power + Vol Down). Any clue on that?
Also when I try to flash stock it goes for about 6% and stops saying something like can't change to download mode.
Is this phone dead?

Is this phone dead?
So now I have issues to get started that phone. Mostly goes into boot loop mode (LG logo, LED flashes few times and reboots). Sometimes it goes beyond LG logo - to AT&T logo and reboots there. When I pass that I have a luck and I can get phone to work but I need to disable WiFi, BT and NFC.
Also I have got into MiniOS and run that ATT testing tool which came all passed except one - OTG or something like that failed.
Any help?
I think android modification is dead man. There's a bunch of junk devs that release crap that isn't even worthy of being flushed down a toilet, then provide no help to users with problems. At best they tell you that it's your fault then ignore you.
Wish I could help. I'm having a similar problem on CM13. After a few dozen posts asking for help with 0 replies, I've decided you now modify your software entirely at your own risk and if something goes to hell you either have to install a different ROM or buy a new phone.

try a new battery @TheNetwork @Scyzor
I ran into those constant bootloops on every ROM I tried, including when I factory restored to KitKat unless the phone was plugged in. I got a new battery (then recently replacing that one with a newer & good 6,800mAh for under $20 because it drains way too fast) & bootloops stopped.

I think this is sad but true :\ All PROs are gone to different phones or newest releases and only LG G3 fanboys left with bunch of "supporters" from Asia. Anyway I'm going to dump LG and will wait for new Google Nexus.

I have got two batteries week ago. One original replacement (3000 mAh) and some OEM (3500 mAh) - both were failing into boot loop until I will get to be lucky enough after full charge over the night and boot to the system and leave it as is but last Tuesday my screen started to fade away instead of turning off and after that it went again into boot loop.
But I don't have any problems booting into recovery (TWRP) or DL mode. Strange...

This happens with all phones as devs are like anyone else. They upgrade their devices and focus on the new device. Some sell their old device to offset the cost of the new one. Development takes time and many of these individuals have lives outside of development. They have jobs and/or families. What they do is for the fun of it and so they can get more of what they want out of Android. If they share it, then that is up to them and does not mean they owe support to those who choose to use their ROM(s). The fact that a development site lets non developers use ROMs that are uploaded is a privilege and I'm thankful for it. I'm not a developer but have been able to use info from here to get more of whst I want from my phones.
Strange problem. Battery full, no problems there. After getting mad about sdcard not being recognized, even with cm 12.1 , I decided to install cm 6.01 rom(marshmallow) nightly. Installed, changed launcher to nova prime, right gapps, and installed kernel auditor. Downloaded xposed for marshmallow, rebooted, everything was fine(or so I thought). Two days later, coming back from store, looked at my phone and hit power, to get it out of sleep. That's when everything went wrong. It didn't come back, and no pressing of the power button did anything, I had to battery pull. I rebooted to twrp, and over the next week tried to get it right. Uninstalled cm 6.01 nightly, and put xneon rom on it. Same problem persisted, no boot to the os, or partial boot to the lockscreen. I knew the phone wasn't hard bricked, since twrp was still working, and phone wasn't shutting down to no response. Whenever I tried to boot into the os' , it would still get stuck on startup, though. I read all of the advice to return to stock, using flashtool, or lgup, going into download mode, everthing that I could read up on, and implement. I ran to best buy, and ordered a huawei 5x, and said to myself, I can't fix it. Well, today, I said why don't I short the battery pins, and repeatedly press the power buttons, at the same time( because when i put the battery in, even after 10~15 seconds, it would boot to the lg logo, then fade to non-responsive again). Viola! it booted into the os' , and didn't shut down to unresponsive condition(no power button action, and ultimately, battery pull). It seems everthing was fine, until I used the browser, then condition came back. Battery pull again, and it's working now, haven't shut it down since, so I adjusted the display off time to 30 min. , and turned off power saving modes. I don't know if it's truly fixed, but I thought my phone was going to my archives history drawer(all my other phones still work, but they're underpowered, old os' phones). It may still go there, once I pick up my huawei, but I'm glad to see it still living. Is there some type of time out I'm not aware of? or a shutdown by internal fuse, or reset that's built into the firmware? I've heard of bad screens with this, but didn't think that was the problem, since, when in twrp, it never shut down to being unresponsive, and when twrp shut off screen, it would come back, even after hrs of it on. I want to know if the bootloader has anything to do with this, and by shorting it, cleared the emmc.
I have made a video how it looks on my LG G3:
PS.
Is there flashable CWM for D850? I have heard that TWRP is creating those issues from the video.
Well, based on some articles it looks like a hardware issue mostly related to the overheating and "cold soldering joints". Based on that article most of LG phones may experience that issue:

So I was able to get my hands on a new 8gb/512gb matte black version of this. Was setting up the phone, updated to Android 10 first before transfering sms, call logs and updating apps. Went to turn off the phone to insert my SIM card and now the phone won't turn on. It vibrates every time I press the power button but then nothing. Currently it's connected to the supplied charger with the LED light lit red. It was already charging while I was using it, had about 70% battery before I switched it off. I've tried volume down + power button for 10 seconds, LED light turns off and it vibrates, and it keeps vibrating every 10 seconds when it's connected to the charger (doesn't keep vibrating when it's not connected). Can feel the area between the fingerprint reader and camera pretty hot during this. Volume up + power doesn't work either. Any ideas?
Try pressing and holding all three.
Power + vol up + vol down. Should force a reboot.

No response. Not even a vibrate.
That is unfortunate. I had this multiple times. Black screen but phone was on. Just did not react to power button or screen did not turn on. The button combo helped.
Only other idea I have is to let the battery run out. If the phone is even on in your case.
How could you tell if the phone was actually on? Could you receive calls or something?
And this was on your Zenfone 6 too?
I've left it off charge for the last 5 days now. I don't think it's gonna run flat soon, considering that it's not even on.
I think I will send it back to the seller (Taiwan!) tomorrow
The notification led was blinking. Yeah on zf6. It stopped happening a few month ago. Probably fixed in a few update. But yours seems to be a different problem.

I am not sure where, but I think when I was trying to fix my hard bricked Z6, some post said that a red LED without any other notion from the phone means that you may be able to get this running in QD-Loader mode - check this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-6-2019/how-to/qdloader-brick-t3980165
Can you get the phone to register as a COM-device?

My post on here: recognised as an Android ADB Interface but I can't do an adb reboot as "device not found"

Thanks for this. I actually saw this a few days ago but was reluctant to try as I'm worried it might void the warranty.

Try again the Power + vol up + vol down combo, but hold it 30 secs. If still does not reboot, get worried...

I did hold them for 1 minute and no response before. Is there a specific order which they should be pressed and held?
No, no order. Just all pressed together at once. I think you should return the phone. Last year there was a similar issue with an update and many phones had to be returned, but it was solved.
If the combo don't reboot the phone I would return it. I don't want to give them excuses not to honor the guarantee.

It was never solved. It's still happening even to new ASUS phones.
To OP: Return the phone immediately. Your mobo is 95% dead. It's a hardware issue so trying to fix that is not worth losing the warranty.

Yeah so weird as I only did an OTA firmware update from the shipped Android 9 to Android 10. It installed successfully and rebooted once. But only died once I shut it down. Was there a thread about it?

Yeah it actually just got back to Taiwan yesterday. Seller is being annoying though and not wanting to send me a replacement. But instead wanting to refund me and then asking me to repurchase (at a potentially higher price like seriously -_-).
Such a hassle.

might be you received damaged Cell because I faced the same issue when I bought LG G4 Cell, Seller told it was new but after I sent to Service Center they told its repaired cell and not new, it was motherboard issue, so might be you also picked up cell like that, other I never faced any problem in Asus 6z since I bought last year

They refunded me and couldn't get stock of a new one. The repair centre apparently can't fix it either lol.
Anyway it's a blessing in disguise as I'm gonna buy the Zenfone 7 or 7 Pro now.

Yes..Nice Choice, Hope Asus 7 Series Price not like onePlus & others
Same thing just happened to my wife's phone. She received an OTA update from ASUS which resulted in her phone rebooting itself during the night and getting stuck at the ASUS splash screen totally unresponsive.
I waited for the battery to die and after charging the phone powered up. It lasted 12 hours before suddenly shutting itself down when the wife was changing settings to pull the time from the network.
Now dead as a brick. Charge light no longer lights. Totally unresponsive. No amount of power button/volume button combination or time will do anything to make it work again.
Pretty pissed off as it was purchased early Sep last year and has already been sent back to ASUS in Taiwan for the USB charge port board replacement. Now 1 yr and 17 days old.
I do not know what to do now except push for a repair under warranty.
Nearly on the day when my warranty went out the ZenFone did it to.Used Bluetooth to my headphones and suddenly it went dead for good. Was reading that others on the net had the same problem and guess its a major built in fault on a rather expensive phone when i bought it. Got a new phone of a different brand and will for sure never return to any Asus phones when quality aint a strong word for that brand. Over and out.
Wow. I was looking at these phones but there are issues it seems.
Rule #1 if your OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission...
Do Not Update!
This goes double for carrier phones. AT&T for example can wreck your user experience with their later updates.
With Pie and above security isn't an issue unless you do something stupid.
Don't get sucker in by scare hype.
Always redundantly backup critical data to at least 2 hdds and always be ready to reload. Reload if you can't resolve a malware issue asap. Cover your ass...ets
