Anyone have any idea what the issue is or when the crashing after every call and general instability will be fixed? SMS works beautifully but calling is spotty at best, even from ROMa like ARHD that claim to have working WiFi calling.
I fugure we will have to wait until an ICS TMOUS phone is released or the sensation is updated to ICSvon TMOUS.
I made a thread about this a few weeks ago and never got an answer. basically it's tmobile and the app itself that needs to be fixed, and there isn't a single ICS rom that it works on, I don't care what the rom chef says. For me I just turn it off immediately when I flash a new rom as it has never once worked for me during a call.
You have to wait until T-Mobile releases their ics update for the sensation.

I could be wrong but I have a feeling that the problem is caused by one of two reasons. One being that the app it self is really not fully compatible with ICS yet. Or, and I feel this is the more likely the reason, the kernel has been changed for ICS causing the WiFi calling app to not be able to function properly, meaning the kernel has to be reworked. I feel like this and maybe a couple of other kernel issues is why TMOUS has not started pushing out the OTA yet.
I am running arhd and wifi calling works like a charm. So its hit or miss.

+1, arhd, and my WiFi calling works. I rarely use it though .

I am on ARHD as well with no joy. I mean, occasionally I can get a call out on my Bluetooth, and my phone always rings, but usually won't go any further... multiple WiFi access points tested at various places. SMS and MMS are flawless, so I have been tolerating it.
In any case, I find it hard to believe it is working 100% for anyone yet.
Question for those who say it is working... after you end a call does the WiFi calling icon disappear for 20 seconds or so, then come back? Or after making a call the second one will hang with a green icon, then disappear and reappear again? If so, those are signs that the application is crashing and being restarted.
And if those aren't happening and WiFi calling is truly working, please post what WiFi router and internet provider you are using...
WiFi calling has multiple ways of getting out to the internet, some of which are kind of clever... to the point where it will work on most Aruba WiFi systems that use a captive portal...
At the college I work at, the Aruba technician doing an upgrade on our devices had to spend a good 30 minutes figuring out how it was bypassing the captive portal so he could block it.
Good luck finding somebody who will answer you with this, I tried in my own thread and never got a satisfactory answer. There are a few people as you see in this thread who claim it works great but I've never seen anybody explain exactly what their specific setup is. I'd like to know if it has anything to do with the router and/or type of wifi network you are on, the rom, the kernel....so many different variables. I'm like you, I just don't see how it could work 100% for somebody if so many others do NOT have working wifi calling.

Because annoying things like that happen. Gps is funky for me on all cyanogen builds, but works perfectly for everyone else, for example. Only works once per boot up. Freaky...but im the only one.
The fact is the updated version of the apk isnt out yet for wifi calling. So you have to be patient. Those of us who have it working might just be lucky. It happens.

Has anyone found a ics build with sense that works with wifi calling?
The major issue is kineto_gan.ko a module in /system/lib/module
It is one of the main files needed to run WiFi Calling. The problem is it is Gingerbread base and kind of like when you port items from one sense to another it doesn't play so well.
The secondary issue is there isn't anything on TMO with ICS yet until the One S comes out and with a lot of more recent phones TMOUS patches in the WiFi calling at a later time so we can't really extract it from there either (yet).
Then brings in the issue of WiFi encryption, setups, and so on that mess with the way the call is carried through the network to properly register to TMO.
So it is like others have said. Some people will have good luck some wont. At home mine gets texts just fine but calls I can't rely on it and won't until Tmobile gets us a version we can use.
Yeah I think even when the one s comes out even though won't be helpful either. That will probably have the newer IMS wifi calling like the amaze does and not be compatible because that is more reliant on hardware supposedly and if nothing else needs a newer sim.
May need to wait till there is a offical rom update relased from T-Mobile.
I haven't had reliable wifi calling in any ROM in at least the last 6 months. Would work fine and then crash, requiring a reboot to fix only to repeat the process. Sometimes that crash took 2 minutes and sometimes 30.
With the ICS builds I've been trying it's always closer to 2 minutes but text works fine. It's been rough since I rely on the wifi calling because of the weak signal when I'm at home. I'm expecting it will be much more reliable when T-Mobile releases the official Sensation build which they sent back to HTC,... because of the wifi problem from what I've heard.
Lucky I found this thread (thank you Google), I thought i was having a bad time with calls dying after 5 minutes or so, but from what I hear from you guys, guess I've got it good (just gotta make sure I'm not on wifi calling during an important call). Although, i really wished it worked well for voice calls as I'm always within different buildings and no guarantee of signal in there (same for my apartment). SMS & MMS work fine though
I'm running latest ARHD (ICS) btw. Although some of this problem might be due to the devices themselves different config, etc.
I'm using Virtuous Inquisition v4.0.1 and WiFi calling works perfectly fine with fast connection. It didn't work so well for me on ARHD
It's hit or miss. Not much in between. Stick with gb if you want WiFi calling to work. That's what I have to do. People on here act like you're crazy to want WiFi callinh to work.

So I've had a problem that I've noticed a lot of people having: Receiving an error that says, "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has suddenly stopped. Stopping the app and clearing data has only ever been a temporary fix for me.
Now, I've made a new discovery: The error stops when I turn off Wifi Calling. I pretty much NEED Wifi Calling when I'm at my house, so I was wondering if there might be a possible solution to this.
I am in the same situation where I need wifi calling in my place...GB ROMs are the most reliable you will find atm...

I'm going to run through a couple of different roms to see what I can come up with.
That is a common issue with ICS at the moment. I have found that if it does this just do a hard boot (boot holding Power + Volume Up for 10 seconds while starting phone) and then turn on Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi calling and that has fixed it for me a few times.
This happens with every ICS rim out there.... Believe me I tried them all. I need it for work and unfortunately I had to resort to GB.... You will never get rid of that error. Sorry but I tried everything as well.. Good luck and God speed......

Yeah I've finally decided to break down and go to GB. I just finished downloading a few roms to test out to see which one I like best. I've loved having ICS on my phone. It's quite lovely, but just too many bugs right now. I will still be coming back to ICS (even if only temporarily) to scope out the HFS 1.8 when it arrives, but until then I'll have to do with out.

I just made the same determination. Really really like everything about HFS 1.8 except I get the same error when Wifi calling is enabled. I work in a dungeon basement office with zero cell reception, so I really need Wifi calling to work reliably.
Will definitely be back once the Wifi calling issues are fixed though.
Hi. I was using my Sensation last night, went to bed and woke up the next day only to find that my 4G connection wasn't working! The signal bars were white and the icon (currently an H) is flashing. What does this mean? How can I fix it? I can only use Wifi at the moment, and I DO NOT pay an extra $10/mo to deal with this! How can I fix this? I've checked my data settings, rebooted my phone, scanned fir viruses, but can't figure it out!

this happened to me the other day, even in 3G/4G mode my data would never connect and E would just keep flashing over and over again (in like 10 sec. intervals) thought it was a ROM problem so I restored a backup and sure enough, the problem was still happening. I could still make calls and send texts fine tho. its not happening to me anymore, but I found it weird. could it possibly be T-Mobile messing with their towers or something in preparation for LTE?
Well, I'm not sure what caused this very same issue for me a couple days ago. I can say that it ONLY effected my AOSP (CM9) rom, but my Sense rom was unphased. It seems to be a common recent complaint in the OpenSensation thread...
I've since then done a fresh install of CM9 RC1 with the addition of Tamcore's kernel. Although I'm not experiencing the described symptom any longer, I can say that my data speeds are far from exceptional. I'm not sure what is going on, but it does seem to be carrier related.
I experienced the same 1 day after flashing CM9 RC1. I re-flashed the Virtuous Inq. ROM I was using previously and the problem went away
My phone went back to normal later on. I think you were right mulletcutter, they might have been servicing it.

Same data connectivity issue
I have two sensations, both shows similar data connectivity issue on TMobile. Data signal jump to connected and not connected for couple hours, and eventually problem will go away. I have both phones rooted running either CM9 or Kang. So far I have tried couple following things but no solutions. I believe its HTC Sensation hardware issue:
1. Flickering so far seen usually after night long charge in the morning. It will last couple hours, some time days.
2. Changing/reflashing ROMs did not help at all and saw same issue continued.
3. One of my friend has Sensation and he also has seen same issue.
4. Some time going into Phone application(Dialer) and then Settings/Advance settings and come back without doing anything helps but not always.
Please post here is you have temporary/permanent solution or even know the root cause of this data connectivity issue.
Also thinking to call Tmobile to get some kind of help but not expecting much as I bought phones more than year ago but less than 2 years. I don't want to give any more commitment/agreement with Tmobile as planning to move to value plans to save some money. If Tmobile does not help, thinking to try American Express to conver it under extentended warranty as I paid by AMEX credit card.
Thanks
Have you tried the application get ril? I was having some issues myself, I'm also T-Mobile. I tried get ril and found out my radio and ril we're not matching. The application suggested a ril for download and once I did that I went from one bar of connection to five bars of connection on H. It made a big difference for me. Perhaps it could also help you? You can download get ril from the market. It sure won't hurt to try. Best of luck.

Its a defect in the basic aosp framework. There is nothing you can do to fix it. There is also nothing your usage did to start it.
The good news is that it should disappear on its on after a few hours.
Check my threads started history. You will find a thread near the top of that list showing almost all there is to know about this issue. I think my thread might be linked in the first 2 posts of the cm10 faq thread too.

I understand that wifi calling does not work on the current crop of ICS ROMs and from what I have gathered there are some proprietary pieces that make wifi calling on the SGS4G different than any other phone, so my question is whether anyone plans on bringing this to any of the ICS Roms? It's a requirement for me because of lousy T-Mobile signal strength at home and work. I keep reading through all the ICS ROM posts to see if anyone is working on it and so far I haven't seen anything so I thought I'd ask. I'm sure that getting all the core functionality is at the top of the list for most devs, but hopefully this one won't fall by the wayside.
Thanks,
This is on the list. However getting the builds stable and pretty much bug free is top priority.
A temporary fix is try grooveip from the play store. There is a lite version that only works on wifi. It uses google voice to make calls using a wifi/data connection make calls. I know you can make texts show up as your mobile number and Im almost positive the same with your number. If not just tell people its a extension. The only downfall is if you get a call to your regular number it will not ring to the phone just go to your VM.

It worked for me at least after testing it at work (I loose signal as soon as I work into the building). I was able to send out text messages without any problems but was unable to test wifi calling since I am struggling with a weak wifi signal. Is there a way to flash modems? I have tried booting into recovery and flashed moddem and unmmoded modems with no success.
OK wifi calling doesn't support wifi texting, I know because I have tried. So you were definetely mistaken. There is no wifi calling app built into any current ICS rom because of the lack of the kernel kineto drivers. It's not a bug hypothetically. It is just not there. That's like saying that NFC worked on this phone. So there is no possible way for a fluke.

I work in the second level basement of my building. We call it the dungeon, and if you ever visit you'll see why. (That's not a bad thing because users are generally afraid to come down here). Lacking the required dev skills I have been waiting for a post-MIUI2.0 or ICS rom that worked out the wifi calling problem. Looks like someone's moving the ball for the HTC Sensation, Galaxy Note and maybe other devices.

Against reason and explicit warning I tried these updates anyway. Wifi calling installs, but never completely initializes to run. One update temporarily broke my radio/modem which I fixed by flashing back to stock and moving forward to miui2.0. Luckily I did not brick my phone!
Two options.
1. Use grooveip or something similar as a work around. Forward calls while at work to your google voice number.
2. Start a bounty thread to get wifi calling working on the sgs4g. It sounds like there are a bunch of people that need it and if five of you throw in 20 bucks that is a 100 dollar incentive to get it working.

I'm pretty sure it does. Other than anecdotal evidence like I send texts through WiFi Calling in my dead zones (basements, work, friend's homes), if you were on KJ6 modem and couldn't send extended texts (it'd fail to send), you could send them just fine through WiFi Calling without flashing another modem. So, I'm not sure what method you tried so it could have been something unique about your phone.

Text over wifi works for me too on KJ6. Never send really long texts so I never dropped back to KG4; I'm satisfied with my ValBlack gingerbread rig in this way.
I have also the motorola defy and no one was able to make wifi calling work on Ics, most devs are from outside the Us and no one really cares, they are really good, one even ported JB already. But the SGS4G is tmobile only, so hopefully someone can make it work, tmobile signal is spotty and wifi calling is a must have. Iam staying on GB until its fixed
Hello!
As my title states, I'm looking for a ROM that supports T-Mobile Wifi calling!
I do not enjoy the stock ROM and prefer ICS+
I flashed [ROM]CM 9.1 + bat drain fix + other tweaks Although I had working Wifi calling, my data reception was very SLOW. Slow enough for me to type that in all caps.
I flashed [ROM]MikXE-v0.4 and enjoyed the fast performance and working data, but Wifi calling wasn't present.
From what I have read, Wifi calling requires a few things in the Kernel in addition to the Wifi calling APK.

WiFi calling already works for this device there is a flashable zip that has the apk for it + some RILs. Then you need the gan optimizer apk pushed to system/apps. WiFi calling works great!!!
While living in China I found that the Sidecar app actually worked better than the built-in WiFi Calling did on my phone. Better call quality, and all calls to US/Canada numbers are free for now. Sidecar now has the capability of using mobile data if you want and have it, but that can be turned off and make it WiFi only.

I definitely need to find time to look at this.
Stock wifi calling is a cancer slowly murdering the end-user perception of this devices capabilities.
One of the things I was working on for Bulletproof was a patch to remove wifi calling from an already installed copy of it. What a nightmare that was, for as far as I got anyway. Still lacking in sufficient diagnosis.
The difference in performance and responsiveness in my rom with stock wifi calling and with that removed as the only change to the install is - to put mildly - is observable just through using it, without a benchmarking app.
It's not something i'd ever use anyway - so I see all that extra load as needless waste instead of a sacrifice for something I want. Conversely that means i'll never find a replacement unless someone brings it to my attention.
Can't say when i'll get a chance to look at it, but it's infinitely more likely to happen sooner then later with a lead to go on.
Whenever I sit down with the time to go learn about something I know nothing about (directly) - such as wifi calling - it inevitably loses out to something like starting on the aosp site and reading every snippet on bluetooth before branching out to other sources for info on how it works in android.
Having a reference point places it in a different category entirely - thanks!

For me it's a bit of the opposite. I stick with T-mobile for two reasons.
GSM - BYOD portability and upgrades when I want.
WiFi Calling - I seem to work and live in low signal areas. WiFi calling is a Godsend, keeping me connected without switching to more restrictive carriers.
If the official app is such a system hog, I'm fine with it being left out as an option. But I either want it in a ROM, available to install, or a viable replacement must be available.

I was the same way, when I live in China I need the WiFi calling in order to stay in contact with friends and family back home. But, as I discovered, that Sidecar app that is freely available in the Play Store has better call quality than the built-in WiFi Calling on my stock-based ROM. I compared the two and ended up using Sidecar all the time. Now, the Sidecar app can only receive calls from other Sidecar users, that's the only drawback to it versus WiFi Calling.
WildChildIcE last nightly has it & it seems to work fine although I don't use it all the time. It may be worth checking out since everything else in the ROM seems to be just fine.
Another thing that I find pretty cool is grooVe IP from the market. It connects to Google Voice and uses your G Voice number for free incoming and outgoing voice calls to any number in the US and Canada, using mobile data or wifi. Works great, I've been using it on an Android that I have that has no service at all on it, except wifi. The only single drawback i've found so far is there is maybe a 2 second delay when I've used it, so I've had to wait for the person to hear what I said. All in all tho I find it great for a completely free service(well, there is a paid and free version of the app).
Sorry, I liked this app so I had to throw it in here. I might check out Sidecar as well

I agree wholeheartedly with number 2. I work in a building where nobody using any carrier gets cellphone signal for whatever reason. That is, nobody except for me because of wifi calling on T-Mobile. This device is first and foremost a phone and it needs to be able to make phone calls and if that means a little lag on some silly game being played on the phone or whatever then so be it.

The CM 9.1 ROM you mentioned has the 2G data speed enabled by default to conserve battery. Did you uncheck this? I believe its the only ROM I've ever tried that came that way out of the box. Options > More > Mobile Networks > Use only 2g (uncheck).
Inquisition works well with the right T-Mobile wifi calling package applied (WifiCallingICSAOSP.zip), but it doesn't appear to have as much customization built in (I can't find how to edit the lock screen for example).
I have not had luck installing Infinity and pairing it with a working Wifi Calling package. Supposedly other have, but I can't get a straight answer for the last few weeks when I've tried to find out - even in their IRC channel. On my G2 however, Infinity worked great with WiFi calling, so my guess is that I've just not run across the right package to install.
I'd like to use a Virtuous ROM primarily, because I've been a long time user of Virtuous ROMs (third device now I've followed them). Inquisition seems the most complete, meaning it is the only ICS ROM I've tried where everything worked, including the little LED's for the caps and special keys. The development for this particular device just doesn't seem high on the radar though, and the community around Virtuous has nearly completely died out.
Beyond that, I've not tried any other ROM's for my MT4GS. I'm in a similar boat though apparently, I require WiFi calling, and I want ICS or Jelly Bean.

The CM 9.1 ROM you mentioned has the 2G data speed enabled by default to conserve battery. Did you uncheck this? I believe its the only ROM I've ever tried that came that way out of the box. Options > More > Mobile Networks > Use only 2g (uncheck). .

You know, I remember seeing H indicators on my signal meter and trying unsuccessfully to look for new towers (Mobile Networks-=>Network operators).
I have flashed again and see "Use only 2G Networks" checked. Even though that was checked, my phone indicated H in my Downtown Area.

I just came from Virtuous Inquisition after reading the forum on Roots.
I ran the ROM for a bit, and Wifi calling kept dropping or staying quiet.
On 2-3 days with the ROM, I tried flashing WifiCallingICSAOSP.zip, and on reboot, Wifi calling would crash.
Was I supposed to do anything special to flash that WifiCallingAOSP package?
Now I'm on CM9.1 + Fixes with the WifiCallingAOSP package, and when I pick up the phone to answer, my phone defaults to speaker. It requires a double toggle of speakerphone mode during calls to get to handset.

The problem I have is that it keeps telling me "Reading SIM" in the wifi calling app, its not that typically "drops calls" problem I see most people with. When I try to toggle the mode on/off, it says "Calling Preferences can not be changed as the SIM is invalid" I even went into T-Mobile and swapped out my two year old SIM card for a new one.
EDIT: just tried Infinity 1.35 with the path and gan optimizer.. same thing..

I have not stayed on Inquisition for any grand length of time, but the few times I've had it on my phone it worked out well using WiFi calling.
I'm personally hoping that Jelly Bean re-inspires the developers for this phone to give us some great things. I'd imagine they kinda lost steam after so much fighting with ICS.
Wicked ROM supports WiFi Calling.
I have the strangest issue. I get disconnected from calls in the middle of conversation if I'm using any of these main custom ROMs.
Blaz3r
CyanogenMod 10
Blaze Tweaked ICS 2.2
But If I'm using a stock ICS ROM or "Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (Posted by tthaz777)" everything is very stable and no disconnects.
I have full bar with all the ROMs and get perfect data speed and everything else works fine. I'm using the same exact apps on the ROMs as I do on the stock, so I don't think it's related to a particular app. It seems as if TMobile scans the sessions at their network level and disconnects the call because my connection is not providing some information/call data they need. The disconnect can happen as fast as a few seconds or after a 10 minutes or so, just random.
Is anyone else experiencing this ?
I'm currently running below and everything is stable with no drop calls. Just can't figure out why this happens when install any other ROM. and Yes I always to do a full wipe before install.
Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (Posted by tthaz777) with merwin's scorched-kernel-t769-ics v1.0.29
Well the 4.0.4 thazz build should be pretty stable as its essentially stock. That being said my wife (who is INCREDIBLY picky on how her phone functions... I've yet to get her to try something not TW-based) has been using Tweaked since before it was even posted and uses her phone as a phone constantly (... lot's of out-of-state sisters that she's always yapping with) and has yet to report an issue. I am unclear why you would be having these issues with the particular specificity you are experiencing... especially if kernels are remaining consistent across TW-based builds anyway. Without me being able to recreate it on my end or a logcat taken during the premature disconnect on your end I'm at a loss. If nothing else, at least you found something that works for you, so I suppose it a could be worse.
Sorry for the troubles.
Not all stock apps or play store apps work with 4.1, I had the same problem when I let my battery app manage my data. It would wait to connect sometimes up to 20-30 secs later after waking to make a call. Check all your apps your using for compatibility, and when you wake your phone give it a sec before calling out. If your in a bad area the alternating of edge/3g/HSDPA+ doesn't help either. I stopped allowing my battery app data control and that solved 90% of my issues, sometimes it still does it but only when I'm in the boonies.

LOL I am using T-Mobile service with this device, so if that's the case for you I would expect a few drops from time to time
On a serious note, drops can happen with full bars for a variety of reasons. Tower is overloaded (signal shows strong but can't connect/gets dropped), person you have called drops you (calling someone in NY that has AT&T? ), bad/faulty sim card (free to get checked and replaced), etc. No cell phone/ROM is drop call immune, even stock (and yes even those people using Verizon). FWIW, I haven't dropped a single call in over a month using Thomas' PA and Tweaked. That's pretty good considering that's including the holidays and I didn't go home this year.
Thanks for the replies guys. What drives me crazy is that I have absolutely no dropped calls when using the stock ICS ROM, but as soon as I load any of the ICS ROMs mentioned the voice call gets disconnected periodically. Same Location, Same Apps, Same Calling Number, nothing changes except the ROM.
I'm fairly technical and good at troubleshooting but not an expert in reading the Android Logcat and don't know what to look for in the log. I have loaded the UVLH5 radio after flashing the the custom ROMs to see if that might be the cause but same thing.... I wondering if I need to try an older Radio...
Like I said all is running great with Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777) + merwin's scorched-kernel-t769-ics v1.0.29 OC to 1728 but not knowing what's causing the drops is just driving me crazy....
To test I just load the ROM and then call one of the free news numbers (ABC News etc 650-293-9114) and put the phone on speakerphone, and yes I have tried varies other numbers... JUST WEIRD
Try finding an app of the app store to make logging easier like logcat or something. Then run the app and make a call. If it doesnt disconnect, restart the log. When it does disconnect, end the log and copy+paste it here. That is the only real way to find out whats up.
So the problem started again this AM and it's been fine since I flashed Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777). I hear the hang up tone and calls would just disconnect in the middle of conversation with perfect signal strength. Nothing new was added to the phone, so only way to fix it was to reflash it again from a nan backup.
This is driving me crazy. Attached is a short logcat from right before the call dropped, could one of you experts check it out and tell me if you see anything strange going on....
Thanks

any chance you can put that on pastebin instead of a pdf? just post a link to it. It could be helpful to a dev as I see that some info is spread out to different pages and is cut off.
Also did you use an existing sim from a previous phone when getting this phone or did you get a brand new sim? I know various issues arise when using an old sim with this phone. My old sim had issues and wouldn't connect to wifi calling and it was only 10 months old.

Here's the pastebin link. Thanks
http://pastebin.com/SCBx2jNS
When I initially had the issue I ordered a new sim hoping it would resolved it and that didn't help, so I flashed ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777) which is pretty much the stock with bloatware removed and that resolved the problem and not a single dropped call for a month and it just started again. It's so weird as if Mobile is looking for something in the connection/session and forces a disconnect.

Ordering a new sim doesn't mean getting a compatible sim. Have you taken the phone to a Tmo store and had someone check it out? They could've sent you another partially compatible sim for it. If I knew more about reading the logs I would love to help you out....
