[Q] Which gingerbread rom do you prefer? - Milestone XT720 General

Which gingerbread rom do you use and why? I currently use the fjfalcon one but i think to maybe move to CronosX. So which one do you use and why?

I have tried many roms (probably most of them), and all I can say is my device couldn't handle them. Currently trying out the froyo cm6.3. Gingerbread+ roms were too heavy even with overclocked cpu and battery drain too.
2 Examples:
MIUI (both v1 and v2)
CM 7.2
If this keeps up I'll end up staying on stock 2.1 or buy a new device. (Or perhaps try out boot to gecko and tizen if I have the possibility)

me too but Peshovec flavor
is good for me

I am using CM 7.2 but battery drains fast. I get only 24h with very little use. Before I was using khalpower 2.2 and used to get more than 48h.

[Q] Are custom ROMS worth the try for milestone xt720?

Are custom roms worth it if I already have quite a lot of internal memory (~90mb) becos of link2sd and 1ghz processer becos of milestone overclock?? Do custom ROMs provide more advantages than the ones stated above? Any help would be appreciated!!
Are you on a stock Android 2.2 ROM?
If yes, then you can stay on. There are some tweaks on custom ROMs but nothing much that you would miss.
If no, then its a no brainer. Just move on to a custom 2.2 ROM without any delay. The XT720 will be like a new phone for you in all respects be it performance or usability.
Cheers

No im just on the stock 2.1. Performance and stability wise it is better if I move to dexter's 2.2 rom?? but i already have a 1ghz processor and loads of internal space free. what other advantages do the custom roms provide?
I have found that my battery life as well as the overall performace of my phone have improved since updating to Dexter's Froyo v1.3. Before my phone was crashing and restarting for no reason running Eclair now it is running as it should. Thanks Dexter, XDA and all other developers for all that you do.
So you think Dexter v1.3 is the best one?Im on steelepic and have few probs, the phone reboots itself,it gets slow itself, batterie trayns faster.......

[Q] Is there any 100% stable Rom available for Desire S?

Is there any 100% stable rom available for Desire S? Ive been searching for it and found so many out there but everyone is complaining about every rom out there, complaining about wifi or camera or restarting issues are these roms meant to be unstable or they are supposed to be like stock one? can anyone please tell or guide regarding ICS or Jelly Bean rom i can get without getting in trouble as ive never ported my phone before, thanks!
There is nothing in the whole wide world nobody is complaining about.
To topic: there are roms that are way better than stock. Most people having issues don't know what they are doing.
I've used most roms and most stable 3 are cm7 ,virtuous unity and fallout
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Fully stable ROMs that I've used and liked are:
Gingerbread (Android 2.3):
Endymion
Reaper
Cyanogenmod 7
Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)
ICE_DS 4.3 (fully working!)
Fallout (not 100%, missing wifi tethering, but every single other thing works).
Hope this helps!
you mentioned ICE_DS 4.3 (fully working!) can you send me the link from where i can get the guide and download it? I've stock 2.3.5 on my Desire S with Sense 3.0, thanks!
i found this is this right:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the following stable ROMs?:
Cyanogenmod 7
Endymion
Fallout
Reaper
Virtuous Unity
Alternatively, where can I find a straight forward comparison of them?

try it yourself.
Don't let other ppl's preference determine what suites you, if I ever did that then i would be stucked at rom A, and i wouldnt even bother to try rom B.
Even though i read that there were many issue with rom C i still tried it out, and the issues they mention didn't appear in my phone. So my current rom is now rom D.
So then rom B had an update, so i back-up my current rom then restore rom B then updated it. I didnt like it so i went on to try rom E which was one of the lattest developement.
Take ur time to try it all, because once u tried everything u will get bored as i am now and just waiting for the lastest update to come.

I'm pretty conservative when it comes to changing ROMs.
I know that CyanogenMod 7 comes with integrated OpenVPN and WiFi tethering if I recall correctly. I consider these two features as quite desirable. I assume that Endymion and Reaper have that too as they are based on CM7, right? Apparently, Reaper is not based on the stable CM 7.2 release but then, on the other hand, it has been advocated as very stable. So, why has the developer then promised a final release?
I'm scared of losing my apps and data when changing ROMs. What ways do you guys use to ensure that your can restore everything to working order after you've flashed your new ROM?

Does the free version of TB suffice?
Any recommendable TB beginners guides out there?
yes, perfectly good enough. You just won't have the batch function. But it's easy to use and has a simple ui. I will say this though, if your going to be flashing roms regularly then it is more than worth paying for the full app, I paid for tb and Rom manager on the day I unlocked my bootloader, and haven't once thought that maybe I shouldn't have

Virtuous Infinity
Virtuous Infinity v1.33.0 Alpha3 looks good with very few bugs and it offers full Sense 4.0 support I will try this tomorrow lets see how it goes, I hope it will turn out good!!

Use HTC stock ROM
Sent from my Desire S
Well, in that case, stock Rom suits best for u. IMHO, the loveliest part of Rom developing is that someone found issues and someone trying to fix it. That's what Android Dev really is. And I enjoy using all kinds of Roms developed by those awesome HTC Saga developers. Every Rom has some bugs, and it doesn't matter if they don't affect your daily use. Enjoy them I'm currently using CM10 by nexx. Rant too much...:banghead:

Another Vote for Ice DS
Version 4.4 + the new tweaked kernel = a big improvement over 4.3.
As a based-on-stock rom I think it' the choice for you.

I don't agree with that.
I had to disable the SIM-code, because every couple of days, my HTC crashed and Restarted.
(if you don't know that, you don't get call's because of the simcard-code).
That was the reason I bought a new smartphone (xperia U).
Since the HTC was in my desk-drawer, I began to experiment with rooting/changing ROM
Now I have fall-out for 2 weeks now, and my phone hasn't crashed 1 time.
So for me, custom ROMS are more stable than the stock one. (and faster, smoother, ...)
It just feels like a whole new phone.
Anybody knows witch ROM is the best for Battery Life ?
It should be ICS and Sense 4.0 ... At the Moment i have the "Project X" installed
Try ice ds...I am getting on an average close to four hours of screen time on a full charge...that's the max I have ever gotten on any Rom ics or gb...

Best stable rom??

I'm using AOKP 4.0.4 ICS ROM on my nexus s and I'll be soon switching to galaxy s3 giving my nexus s to my dad...
he only uses the phone to call(around 2 hrs minimum daily) and very very minimal data consumption(checking mails)
so i wanted to know which ROM is very stable and gives a long lasting battery for voice calls
(the one which i am using is pretty good)
my question is is there is any better ?

If your Dad doesn't root or care just stock and be done with it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785672
androixide 3.1.0 is your best bet
I think you should use a stock 4.0.4 with maybe a cooked kernel.. when my phone was not rooted yet I had 4.0.4 all stock and battery life was better than after rooting(around 2 days with medium usage)

Stock and nobody will debate that
just flash the stock JB rom provided by Google,
It is indeed the MOST stable rom of JB
For battery life and stablity, personnaly, it's Xenon, but stock is a better choice for an unexperienced user and the stability is guaranted (most of the time). If he only checks his emails and use the phone (as a normal user I guess ), he doesn't need all the "best performance" tweaks, etc. Keep it simple.
Closed, there is no such thing as a "best" rom, try them for yourself, and search and read before you flash anything!

What ROM do you recommend me to use? STOCK, CM7, CM9, CM10...

Hello.
I'm flashing my wife's ChaCha with different ROMs and I was wondering if there is something better than Stock based ROMs.
I value most battery life, second memory space (have the SD card partitioned and using Link2SD right now). Don't need HTC Sense or any other bloatware.
I just need the camera to take pictures, so I can sacrifice the front camera too...
So, what ROM do you guys recommend me to try to have the BEST battery life?
- Stock based (like Hegoxen
- CM7
- SuperOSR 2.5
- CM9
- CM10

I was having problems with the DIALER draining the battery, so yesterday I flashed SuperOSR (CM7.2 based) and so far drainage issues seem to have stoped.
Will post again in a couple of days with the results.
go for ajeevlal port mate, you will never regret it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365533 Release 3 is the one you must install

I'm using Hexgore's rom, based on stock rom and i'ts the best for daily use, i recommend it for you ...
i think best is stock rom, one programmer can do with theme & new statusbar stock rom its perfect happened
ajeevlal's CM10 is actually great! and it's getting even better!
if ur wife is a Stick-to-Stock person noo never change it u'll never find a better rom
if u want speed, extra storage with INT2EXT+ just DO it and change to CM10 ajeevlal's is a great ROM! and i'm personaly working with him to make it even better
as you know, no front camera, sometimes bluetooth issues, other than that, u've got a wonderful CM10!
Forget
Forget all what you heared and try ajeevel CM10.1 Rom it has everything you can imagine

Dad's A2 is slow/laggy, do you notice less lag with custom ROMs?

As the title asks, have any of you noticed battery/performance increases in custom ROMs, and if so, which?
I'm mainly looking at Gummy because I'm using that on my AHD so it will (hopefully) be easier to help him.

If u don't want to flash roms every now and then, u should try Numa. Its ics based, highly stable and fully functional. And the battery life is best in this rom, i think
speedup

You hv 2 choices - a kexec rom or non kexec one
See list of custom roms in the Q&A section.
Fyi tho:
1. Kexec roms are faster, mainly bcoz of dtrails hybrid kernel - 1.4ghz stable @1330mV (cn u believe that!) They also do not hv visual/ display tearing ( the kind u get when ur phone disp is fps-uncapped) BUT their batt life is very poor as in really really bad, ur gonna hv 2 charge twice to get thru the whole day, at least.
2. Non kexec roms stick to std clockspeeda, hv visual tearing(although very minimal) and ia bit behind (latest is 4.2.2 kexec roms are 4.4.2 already) HOWEVER battery lige is very close to stock ics which is fantastic
Its a tradeoff basically performance at latest version vis a vis great batt life on a slightly older version. Do note that for nonkexec roms 4.2.2 u cn always dload motomizer from pstore and get it up to 1.3 ghz - thats not too shabby, is it?
