ICS Leak Battery Life - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm getting the best performance ever when wireless is turned on. Overnight I went from 80% to 76%. Best I've ever seen, coming from GB and various custom ROM's on GB.
I have to admit that I haven't set up ALL of my apps yet.
But 98% deep sleep kicks ass!
Normal use seems about the same though. So far.
What is everyone else seeing?

my battery right now is a little better than coming from my custom gb rom, but i think once i recalibrate the battery and play around with some build.prop tweaks i should be getting a lot better battery

I get 2-3% with my gb rom install on 8-9 sleep with NO wifi, 2% for sure with it on.

What happend to my battery?!?!

I have 6 (yes SIX) back up batteries for my G2X, because of the Miserable battery life this phone has. Well, I took my phone off the charger at 8am this morning and it's STILL going now at 11PM! Hell, it used to be at 65% at 11AM, this is amazing! I just turned off the vibration for the softkeys and swype, but would that alone return such awesome battery life? BTW, this has not seen the charger all day, that's all 1 battery. Now all I need is a faster GPS fix and working live backgrounds and I'll be happy.
Did u use the internet off wifi?

Are you using stock ROM or custom? If custom what kernel? If custom kernel, OC'd? How about the apps frozen/uninstalled? How bout Root? Do you use 4g or WiFi mostly for data? How about your cell strength, more power required at low signal strength!
The point I am getting at is that many things can cause great or horrible battery life on modern phones. It seems that whatever the phone is, someone will complain about battery and say its horrible while others say its just fine.
I have CM7 installed with Faux's 1.5ghz underclocked kernel. I consistently get around 30 hours of battery life. But I also turn off things when I don't need them and don't install apps I don't need/use. I also have light useage compared to others I am sure.

[Q] Battery Life Froyo Vs. GB

Just wondering if anyone can help me understand how there can be such a drastic difference in battery life between Froyo and GB. I've been using BAMF Roms mostly since I rooted my T-Bolt and with above average use on 4G half the day, on Wifi the rest, and get 20>24 hrs battery life. I flashed All the GB Roms after each update, because the lockscreen keeps calling me back lol, but I'm lucky if I get 6 hrs usage with the same basic setup.
I charge my phone every morning when I wake up to 100% and rarely have to charge again until the the next morning with BAMF 1.7 unless I'm flashing mods or streaming a lot of audio and video. I went to sleep at 11:30pm last night with 19% battery and woke up with 14%, insane! With BAMF 2.1 the night before, I not only had to charge my phone 2X that day after very little usage, but went to bed the same time with 100% battery and woke up with 47%. That was with everything turned off, wifi, mobile net, and underclocked to 245mhz with the screen off.
I would just like to know how there can be such a big difference, especially with standby time. Thanks.
It is a known fact that GB is more resource hogging than Froyo. Plus the fact that the GB builds we see here are all based on an alpha leak.. which may not be the best representation of GB. It perhaps has to do with how GB handles memory and how much resource it sucks in to accomplish that.
Just my theory.
I guess what I really can't understand is the standby time. If the screen is off, shouldn't the phone be using less resources? 5% loss on Froyo at night compared to 53% loss with GB, seems like a huge difference to me.
Having some serious battery drain too since going to 2.1. Was thinking about trying a different kernel. Have you tried anything. Trying to find a link but think I saw some posts that Imoseyen's kernels were pretty good.

AFAIK, all GB kernels are Imoseyen's or use his as the base.

53% loss overnight in standby tells me you probably have a bad app somewhere.
Mine typically loses about 15-20% max overnight on GB Roms.. (and I've used GB theory, Liquid Roms and Gingeritis)...This itself is more than Froyo Rom which for me has been typically about 5% loss max on standby overnight.
Most importantly.. when I am working on the phone.. GB Roms tend to lose charge a lot faster than Froyo Roms.. which is where the real pain is.

I've seen the same thing. After about 4 hours yesterday on my extended battery I dropped 2%!! With a GB ROM I lose 10% per hour-ish. I'm just sticking with FroYo until we get a better GB leak that is more stable. I was on GB/CM7 on my Inspire and the battery life was great so I know GB isn't as bad as it is on our device we just have an early build of GB. It will get better hopefully sooner rather than later.
I'm not sure if its GB or the roms but there are additional features in GB/GB roms that contribute to the battery loss. These battery tips are in chingy's gingeritis post. Go through these and hopefully these will increase your battery life. I didn't come up with these tips. Credits to Boskoel03

Other than re-flashing after the Rom's are updated, no, I have not tried any different kernals because I assume the devs know a lot more than me, so I like to stick with the kernals that come with the Roms.

Use Titanium Backup to Freeze All User apps (under Batch Option). Do this before you go to bed. In the morning see what the % Loss is.. Then you can Unfreeze them all one by one and find out the culprit.
Last night when I went to bed my GB rom had 63% juice left.. this morning I was at 47%.
Also, I am using liquid Rom w/ stock battery.

This, or the fact that it's an alpha leak. CM7 has ridiculously good battery life in comparison to both froyo and gb based sense roms, especially the latter.

CM7 battery life Troubleshooting thread

I am loving this rom, but also having HORRID battery life, I am literally dropping 10% every 90 minutes with an extended battery.
27% Cell Standbye
26% Bluetooth
19% Display
Now I keep reading that these might be false readings, but I keep reading this as a response to those having **** for battery life... so maybe they are not false?
Anyone having good battery life show readings like this? Those with bad battery life, what are your readings?
I'm running the CM7 w/the 2.5 radio - I'm in a 100% full time 4G area, but seem to have worse battery life when the 4G radio is on, so I just keep the phone on 3G - if I need the faster data I can always turn it on and off.
I'm running the stock kernal, no overclocking or setcpu type stuff going on.
Would like to hear from folks running this ROM w/killer battery life, what are your settings, tweaks, etc. Please specify if you're running an MR1 or Mr2/2.5 version and/or running the latest OTA 2 radio that just came out like yesterday.
I just turned off my FB sync (I forgot about that). I don't have gmail set up to sync automatically either.
I'm going to do this procedure a little later today and see if it helps, this is for the EVO, but, ya know....
34. "Calibrate" battery - (1) Turn device ON, charge it for 8 hours (or until LED turns green), (2) unplug and turn it OFF, plug it back in and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (3) unplug and turn it ON, wait 2 minutes, turn it OFF, plug it back in, and charge for 1 hour (or until LED turns green), (4) unplug it, turn it ON, and use normally.
Anybody else try this?
today will be my first full day of work use w/this ROM so we'll see what happens.
Best to keep 4g off if not using it. Also, turn Bluetooth off when not in use.

i had horrible battery life the first day - then it got better. then i flashed mr2 official and battery life is really solid. getting like 15-20 hrs with 4g always on, bluetooth on sometimes. one important thing is having a custom lighting table which i will post later.

I have never, nor do I intend to ever do this. I got an extended battery for a reason. I can go all day and then some on the official roms, and all of the Sense roms.
I am not new to CM7, I have run it on both an Eris, and an Incredible. Both devices got FAR better battery life on CM7.
I am not complaining about this rom, or Slayhers hard work. I simply want to gather information so that we may help him trouble shoot.

This is exactly what I did lol, I had lost 10% in the first 90 minutes, now I am at 58% at 5 hours. I have been streaming google music for 2 hours of that 5 though. I would guess I should have seen an increase in battery usage, but have not.
The battery readings are wrong, I get a full day on 4G with my stock battery and see those numbers for cell standby etc. I use lean kernel though
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
do you see those numbers for BLUE TOOTH though? We know good and well some numbers are fake, but that does not mean all.
FYI I am now at 37% and 7 hours and 7 minutes... I have not used google music since the last post and I am seeing the exact same battery drain as when I was using it.
I have absolutely horrible battery life when I'm at work (which is basically a bunker). On a normal day, my battery will be dead within 6 hours just sitting there on my desk.
However, when I am at home (great 4G signal), I see my device getting upwards of 16 hours with moderate use.
I will also say that since I upgraded to the most recent radio, I have been having much better battery life at home. Additionally, my phone has stayed much cooler with the most recent RC + new radio combination.
I heard if you change the render fx to n1 calibrated, then you will get like 1 hour extra of battery life. You can change the render fx by going to cyanogenmod settings.
11h32m11s on extended battery 69% left
The other numbers have to be wrong. Theres no way cell standby is the number one battery user.
my cell standby is also showing 30% with the new OTA 2 radio.
I switched to dream kernel (have not wiped battery stats) and am now at 88% after two hours, that puts me at 6% per hour verses yesterdays 10.

only works for AMOLED screens.
edit: to be clear, it only saves battery on AMOLED.
so what i have found is that after installing dream kernel and messing with the governor settings... along with being connected to wifi. my battery life has improved tremendously. i wiped battery stats this morning after a full charge and didnt notice any change.. then i flashed the kernel and messed with gov. settings... after rebooting ive noticed a huge huge difference.. just my 2 cents for anyone who had battery issues like me
Yesterday I was able to choke out 20 hours while in a 4G area the entire time.
Running RC 1.2, Imoseyon's leanKernel extreme mode (extremely undervolted and OCd to 1.4GHz) and using the InteractiveX governor.
Also, I just happened to reboot and surprisingly it only took away 1% of my battery. Amazing considering whenever I did that on a Sense ROM, I'd experience a battery loss ranging from 7%-10%.

What settings did you land on as best?
cpu is set max to 368 mhz(very low) but i can crank it up if im doing somethign like playing games or downloading and want speed. brightness is at about 15-20 percent. the dream kernel and mr2.0 radio have made a big diff too. the dream kernel made the biggest. usually when id power off or reboot id lose 6-10 percent same as someone else i saw post. now i lose maybe 1 percent which is a huuuuge difference considering you lose 10 percent just because you reboot. also i try to stay on wifi wherever i go. on 3g i def notice it drain quicker, but i am no expert and there are a lot of people on here who by far outexperience and outknowledge me(my new 2 words) so im sure other people have some suggestions

dialer 10%

Android System Going Rogue

I used to get great battery life with other roms on my galaxy but now since upgrading to the new ucla3 modem my battery dies extremely fast and the android system is always up around 48%! with the phone just sitting ill loose 30% over night when i used to lose 4% or 5% (about 9 hours). It definitely sounds like you have a background process running continously and you are not 'deep-sleeping'. Use CPU Spy and check to see if "time-in-state" clock cycles... you should be deep-sleeping 90% of the time during screen-off and know you have shutdown apps you normally use. My experience with UCLA3 modem is very favorable... faster data speeds and better reception coverage. I'm running it with the stock UCLA3 rom and UCLA kernel, and my Android system usage bounces around 1% to 5% CPU usage at any point in time. What rom/kernel are you running? Another suggestion is to use BetterBatteryStats app... great for checking which processes/apps generate wakups, partial wakelocks, and process times.
Ya i know what your talking about and i do have cpu spy and my phone is sleeping quite a bit but it seems that system_server just wakes it up and runs like crazy. im on nexus mod 4 and faux kernel undervolted. anything i could freeze to help with this?
BetterBatteryStats will tell you which processes ars generating wakeups and how many minutes /seconds they're actively using battery
OKay i think i found the problem with my battery drain just running a few trials to see if it really back to normal. will report back
Ya it was weird but i think that the battery drain was the ucla3 update on a rogers phone. not sure but when i went back to rogers radio and quikwiz rom my battery drain issues dissapeared :S oh well thank for your help though

Anyone having crappy battery life with ICS?

Just curious is it just me or does the Skyrocket have ****tier battery life running on ICS compared to it running on Gingerbread? Anyone else having battery problems. I've been running ICS on my I727r for 2 days now and the battery life is very questionable. Probably a battery stat reset will work :S

Yeah, my battery went out pretty damn quick yesterday, but that could be because I've been fussing with my phone more than normal.
The first day of using ics my battery life was okay. The second day my battery life sucked. Why? Because I set up Facebook. Battery manager showed 10% use and I hadn't even checked it. Its the bloat!

I have noticed that my android system is pulling a lot of juice compared to GB. I made some changes today like freeze all the bloat + installed UCLC4 modem. And wiped battery stats + complete drain and discharge of the battery. Lets see if it get better after a few cycles.
My battery seems a lot better! Way way way better. 25 minutes of web and its still full!

Battery has been much better for me with ICS.
Freezing tons of bloat helps..
My battery life has been horrible on ICS but when I look at the battery thing, Face Unlock used 35% of my batter (when my batter was 5% left) o-o it takes THAT much?
My battery life is absolutely amazing with ICS.
I have the stock rom debloated completely, and a lot of junk is disabled. Coupled with turning off auto brightness and leaving data off when i don't use it, the battery just chugs along.
This morning I got in my car at 7 AM, started playing music full blast through the stereo for an hour. Got to class, played some temple run, approximately a half hour worth. 30 texts or so, one 1 minute phone call. (data was off the entire time, it keeps facebook from butting in from behind) My battery has literally only gone down 10%, and it's 1 PM
I'm in love.
Seems fine here, I usually have it plugged in but today am testing it without. The couple charge blips are from when I had to get some files off of it.
I froze a bunch of the AT&T bloatware, have had Wi-fi, BT, GPS enabled the entire time. Moderate/light use... I've attached some screens.
I'm running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567817 with the flashable ICS modem.
My battery has been horrible but it's only been a day for me and my signal has been fluctuating a lot on day one. It's stabilized now so we'll see after a few days of use. But right now it is horrible.
It seems mine is doing worse.
But I have been adding a lot of stuff since this is my first time rooting.
I am about to get a battery depleted(at 12% right now) and reset the battery statistics and install the OEM battery.

I thought there was a lot of debating over deleting the battery stats, i remember an article from a google programmer saying that it actually decreases battery performance...i personally stopped doing it a year ago and noticed a better batter experience, most of the time bad battery comes from a bad flash or apps that run in the backround and use location services
My battery life was horrible with ICS so im back to GB. At work with phone in pocket for 2hrs and was already down to 75% off killing battery and charging it fully next day. When I got home after 8hrs of work already at 50% and thats when its in sleep mode. Using it I would drain 1% every couple minutes definitly bloat. Might try new debloated ones but kinda skeptical since GB gives me amazing battery life.
Once the kernel source drops custom kernels will make all you guys stop crying your all used to optimized stuff not samsucks stuff lol give it time

Well condiering I have never reset them and did this first and only flash of the ICS leak, I'm hoping it helps out. We'll see what happens.
I have Juicedefender turning everything off while sleeping(set widgetlocker to deinied so when locked, widget locker stays active to be ready, and juicedefender see's that and turns off data)
On my 2100mAh nexus battery I barely got over a day(was getting 36-40 hours on GB)
Either way, I have two batteries so I'll deal with it until either an official ICS release or a new rom with better battery performance comes around.
I also have the nexus battery. Def have less battery life with this version of ics .
It could be the algorithm the use. At the start of the day is slowly draws down. As the day goes on it seems to drain faster

Actually, I have been having the Best battery life to date. I will post my list of APK's that I removed. I don't do FB or anything like that, so not sure if that is affecting it. Also, in a non LTE area. on the UCLA3 kernel, I was absolutely getting horrid battery life.
I live in an LTE area and I am getting almost a full day of use. Never got that with GB. I keep wanting to charge it, but I dont have to.
I do have Juice Defender running though, and it disables my data in 15 or 30 min intervals when the screen is locked. And I have SetCPU which limits the CPU to a max of 384 when the screen is locked.
