Definition of lazy and annoying. Couldn't you just search before? At least read the titles on the first page of threads, as maybe someone would've had the same question? No, of course not, because that would've mean to actually spend some time (about 5-10 minutes) to read a couple of replies. Instead it was much better posting a new thread and read the replies 2 days later.

Protip: You don't really need S-OFF if you're HTC-Dev unlocked.

What do you mean by unlocked? Is It S-OFF??
Here's a flashing guide. Do this to flash ROMs after you ROOT via GingerBreak (REMEMBER, THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOUR PHONE IS S-OFF)

@OmarRaul
If you don't know what S-OFF means, then I'd say that you're probably 99% S-ON.
If you don't know what these terms mean then read this :

Uhh dude i think you misunderstood me. I know what S-Off is. I got it via XTC Clip. I was asking him what he meant by UNLOCKED - Sim UNLOCKED or S-OFF. I know the difference between the two.

[INFO]S-Off is closer then we think!

Here is the deal.
HTCdev is our ticket in (areyou sure?) YES
but downgrade is needed!
i have the latest htc chacha rom installed an tried this code
''fastboot oem get_identifier_token''
But it seems to be removed from the latest rom
So first thing we need to downgrade the device so then we can unlock the bootloader
To bad i failed to downgrade if some one got te CHACHA with the first rom ever
So check ur rom or tell me how to downgrade the propper way to force the S-on off it!
what do u mean by downgrade? if you are looking to downgrade try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320392
I tried that and dont work or i make a mistake or sdcard is ****ed ill check when im home
Sent from my HTC ChaCha A810e using XDA App
And what makes you think the first (or earlier) rom does have this?
I sure hope the indeed is our way in, because my wife's ChaCha is in dire need of modifying .

Most of the time sdcard is the culprit
@ajeevlal
You have downgraded the hboot right? Why don't you check the fastboot cmd on your chacha?
@RDilus
Which hboot version do you think is needed?
Are you positive about this?
I'm asking because I've just re-checked the htcdev site and ChaCha is not on the supported devices list. Still!

well it is htcdev just dont wanna tell us because they locked the fastboot code on the chacha on the newest rom
the only HBOOT that can do everything is 0.74.0000 on the rom 1.13.401.1 and i can't downgrade to that version so htc is hiding something im now on 1.18.401.1 HBOOT 1.04.0000 i need to push it to a lower version a pre version before i go on
HTC love to fool us but it aint gonna work there is a reason HTC ChaCha is not listed on the site because no one ever came past fastboot oem get_identifier_token
I've not upgraded my Chacha hboot, afaik lol. Though I don't know which version it is.
It came already s-off, I'm lucky. When I can I'll try that command and see if it works.
Thanks
HTCdev just added the HTC Salsa and a bunch of new devices to HTCdev BL unlock tool. Maybe the Chacha could come next.

Yeah I am checking that aswell on a daily base.
It seems HTC is listing more and more devices in a rapid pace lately.
HTCdev to unlock Chacha BL soon?
Look at that:

I hope so - once they unlock it (IF they unlock it), the activity here will shoot way up, we'll get custom kernels (would love one of these), and we may even get put back in the main forum
and maybe get official recognition in CM!
That would be a dream come true... my Chacha runs so smoothly and lag-free with SuperOSR (which I see is partly based on CM7?) and xd.bx's last build of CM7.2... official support would make this phone complete
UNLOCKABLE AS OF NOW!!!
Not s-off but bootloader unlocked

Kernel source available for the chacha

Globatron is the name of the developer .....
The tool is called uopunutbear S-OFF
I would like to return from ICS ...
But with 1:27 hboot I find no possibility
Ah ok are you S-ON with hboot 1.27? If so Have a look at this thread.
They are developing ways of getting devices that have hboot 1.27 and S-ON converted to S-off.
They may be able to help.

[Q] S-off without unlocking Bootloader

Is there any way to S-OFF and root this phone without unlocking bootloader via www.htcdev.com?
I don't want to have ***UNLOCKED*** in my bootloader...
Usually, as you know, this is a huge problem when you selling a used phone...

If you unlock and then S-Off, you can set it to say ***LOCKED*** instead of ***RELOCKED*** when you relock it. So yeah, take that route.
How to do that?

Not a clue, but people have done it. You can also remove the ***TAMPERED*** tag. I think that usaff22 knows.
OK, thanks... We will wait to someone give me a full info
If you search on the development sub-forum then I guarantee that you will find it.

maybe not as hard as i thought--
hi,
I had the same doubts...
ok, as far as I understand i need to:
1) unlock via htcdev
2) get supercid
3) s-off the phone
4) install any rom that I want (steps 2 & 3 are optional if I don't want to install boot.img after every rom I install)
5) if needed, relock the bootloader (via the thread you posted)
ok I understand that putting back "LOCKED" on bootloader is just for warranty purposes...but...
If I even relock the bootloader putting "LOCKED" status, HTC could always saw that I unlocked the phone since I unlocked it through HTCDEV and they have my serial...or not?? Am I missing something?
