[Q] has any one ever considered........ - HTC Inspire 4G

well I have tried every launcher on the Android market and found non to my taste..... I like the Sense that comes stock on the Inspire 4g, "BUT" as I was playing around with the Launcher Pro, I really like the "Dock," "Dock background" and the "Transition Effect" the visual effect used when switching between home screens. Is there anyway I can get those just mentioned on to my HTC Sense 2.1? the only reason I don't like Launcher pro is because it does not have alot of widgets like HTC Sense does, any help????? thanks in Advance.

call up HTC. Other than that, you cant get a personalized launcher to that specifics unless you make one yourself. And with sense 4.0 working its way out, you wont see as much development for older sense versions. and each launcher can have tons of widgets, just the main ones dont come with a lot of built in. go and download whatever widgets you want and you can experience the same as sense.

Thank you for your response, but I have finally customized Launcher pro for my needs by keeping it down to 3 screens and utilizing those app and widgets that I use on a daily basis, works out very well.

If you want widgets like sense then try Android Pro widgets. Not free but do a great job of replacing the sense widgets.

If you want a dock and the actual sense widgets then here's a link to the htc one ics/sense 4 rom

Going "Vanilla"/Non-Sense- PLEASE post your widgets!

So... I'm trying to slowly step away from Sense as Im beginning to really get frustrated with the lag and the memory hogging.
I'd like to use the Helix Launcher, or something simliar... but I can't really find any good widgets!
Like, I love the HTC clock/weather. I've tried "Beautiful Widgets" but its really not so beautiful for $2.
So, let this kind of be a "post some screenshots" of your favorite widgets.
I love to show off my phone, and making the phone's UI both efficient and sexy at the same time.
However the stock android widgets are just plain as hell, and the Market is as you all know impossible to browse through.

beautiful widgets are perfect.. I think some ppl here even use them over the htc clock even when using sense.. There are tonss of skins to choose from, you just have to download them (from the app, without having to install any extra app). And it also includes all the toggles like wifi and it even has a smaller version of the clock that takes less room
I'm gonna vote BW as well. After downloading a nice theme from inside the app, this thing beats the crap out of the HTC clock any day (for me anyways). Other than that, I don't really know. I would like to hear of some other nice widgets to use
mixzing music player has an awesome music widget and its free defintely recommend

Thousands?
When I was browsing through the clock widgets I only found like 30 or so... wouldn't load anything else after that.
Maybe I'll give it another shot I guess. Only $2 right?
i wouldnt mind going vanilla if there was anything similiar to the bookmark widget, my most used widget. also, i just LOVE the htc weather clock widget with the animations, BW doesnt offer that (i know about the animations upon entering the app, but its not the same as weather animation wallpapers)

Lol he isnt saying thousands to choose from.. he was saying +10000 to liking BW
1. It's 2 bucks... 2 DOLLARS!
2. The phone is so much snappier running Helix, and ASOP, especially running the IC3 ROM.
I didn't think I would like things without the HTC sense stuff... but it runs so smooth, and the BW gets pretty close to looking just like sense.
I don't see BW as being that great. I feel it is kind of sluggish, which imo doesn't justify going away from Sence. And I have tried it. Don't much like the pure apps either. But it's all choices I guess.
Sense works perfect for me. No sluggishness at all!
Sense is very sluggish for me unless I constantly kill unused apps. I just downloaded Home and Helix, I am going to try both of them with BW, which I downloaded a few weeks ago to use with Launcher PRO.
Here's my home screen.
Running DarchDroid 2.7 with Launcher Pro.
Beautifull Smaller Home Widget, as well as SetCPU, Brightness, and GPS widgets
The simpler the better for me.
Just the People widget is out at this time, but it sounds like more widgets will be coming to LauncherPro Plus soon

Thanks, jniggle for actually giving the OP what he wanted! Nice home screen, btw!

you can use both launcher2 or rosie, just clear the defaults...
How am I able to use the sense UI if im using the launcher?
You can also use Helix Launcher. But the only way you will get the SenseUI aka Rosie is if you use the original launcher that is included with the Incredible.
Cool. Thanks
Noob here - how do you get another launcher and still use Sense UI? Where can I find a link for something like that?

You can download the HelixLauncher from the market, its free. Still trying to figure out how to use the sense UI on another launcher....

SenseUI is part of the default Launcher (HTCSense aka Rosie). Technically it IS the default launcher. AFAIK there is no way to "Use Sense on another Launcher." You either use HTCSense or you use some other Launcher.
I tried Advance Laucher and it forced closed over and over. Which N1 Laucher are you using. Does it support multi-touch? I tried Helix but it doesn't work with multi-touch so I got rid of it.

What "multi-touch" function are you trying to use at the Launcher level? Most multi-touch is at an app level....browser, maps, gallery, etc....
The launcher I am using is from Nexus One - Cyanogen 5.0.6 rom. It support multi-touch for pic, browser, map, etc..... But the stock rom does the multi-touch already.

Not sure if you were asking me or the other poster. The Helix Launcher is available for free in the Market. Honestly, though, I am using the default HTCSense Launcher. I can't imagine why anyone would want anything else.
I've used helix but it seems laggy to me so I was looking for the one he said he pulled from cyanogen.
Yeah, I mean I love the Sense UI. But one of the reasons I wanted to get into Android and get an Android phone was to do whatever I wanted and customize and try out anything and everything. Kind of sucks to have limited options when I was hoping to be able to do everything everyone else is doing with their phones.
I too would like to know how to get the Cyanogen Mod on the Incredible.
I'm guessing this is the one they are referring to. I is Launcher2.apk pulled from the Cyanogen Sholes/Droid ROM. You should be able to put it on the SDCARD and install with a file manager.
Credit to Cyanogen.

Same here. I'm hoping the Incredible get rooted soon. Would like to OC my phone and install different roms. I luv the Cyanogen roms, been running it on my N1 for a while now with no issue and its blazing fast.

[Q] Sense UI for Captivate?

Hey everybody, I have tried to search around and I have found no luck, but does anyone know if they have ported the sense ui and can you load it on the captivate? maybe a dumb question i dunno but i figured i would give it a try.
Not yet. Mostly everyone has been working on the gps issues and lag fixes.
just use Launcher Pro and then find a .apk file for fancy widget (a copy of the clock), it's not sense, but its much snappier than the stock captivate launcher and it has some HTC like widgets in the paid version, I find it very functional ^_^
Ive tried several different launchers including launcher pro but i found that i like adw launcher the best. You can download a sense theme for it from the market. I previously had samset 1.5 & 1.8 installed which includes the clock widget. After i synced to app brain i was able to reinstall it after i flashed a different rom. This is pretty much my ui of choice. It has been running great, plus you can enable horizontal swipe in the app drawer via adw settings which i find to work more smoothly. Hope that might have helped some for the time being.

Thank You! I too have been looking for a version of sense for the Captivate. This does a good job of pulling off the over all look and feel!
Another vote for the paid version of Fancy Widget. Very customizable and can be made to look just like Sense.
Sense UI isn't just a skin or launcher like TouchWiz. It actually replaces a lot of stuff in the ROM and has its own framework. You can't just "add" it to a ROM. It IS the ROM. I don't think you'll have it running on Galaxy S phone anytime soon.

3.HTC usb menu (can be fixed with a script made by dexter, and smali to some jar's)
4.Turning of the device
5.HTC's hibernate mode
6.Lockscreen( pressing power to bring the phone from standby will not get a lockscreen after like 5min, plug the device to usb cable and it should bring the lockscreen up)

I love Launcher Pro, which is free. But if you buy Launcher Pro Plus you get some AWESOME widgets, including the Facebook widget which is the best facebook app available IMHO. Also get messaging, twitter, calendar, and people widgets. They are some of the nicest widgets on the market and you get them all while supporting a great developer who is always improving his app.
+1 for LP. Use the free one first, then you will be UPgrading in no time.
picked up launcher pro not sure why many use adw. IMO LP works much better. gl with your choice.

I think it really depends on who you talk to. Some like ADW, others (like myself) love or prefer Launcher Pro (or Pro Plus, which is the paid version).
I like LP+ because of the very functional widgets that come with, along with the very nice widget resizer that works on ALL widgets. Both of these features come with the paid version of LP+. What really endeared me to LP+ over ADW was the memory settings. ADW when I tried it really ran my system down into stutter territory. LP+ in stock settings did this, but what it had over and above ADW was the ability to custom tweek its memory settings. I found a balance of settings in LP+ that really allowed it to run lightly on my system and aside from giving it time (say about 10 seconds or so) initially to build the caches on startup and after a long time out of the launcher, it really flies. That's b/c I have it set to load up all its relevant caches first and keep them unless heap memory is needed. That means valuable cpu clock time isn't spent building caches or spent refilling the cache for redrawing when I switch homescreens.
Also, the customizable dock and icons was a major selling point. I also like having the ability to have multiple docks (only running just one right now, but still, I can see future situations where it would be nice to have multiple docks) and have gestures enabled on top of the dock icons, giving each the possibility of an alternate function (doubling the amount of stuff one can launch from the dock.... including custom-programable activities).
I don't know about the responsiveness of the devs for ADW, so don't take this as any statement concerning them, but the developer for LP+ is quite active and listens to his users. His own forum is quite active and he's involved on there, as are his forum mods. Suggestions are listened to, and if viable and practical they are implemented, and we've seen this happen.
So, all in all, I really love LP+ and find it to really be a superior launcher program. The brief time I spent using ADW I felt it was neat but didn't really offer anything that made it shine above LP+, but it did have some flaws that while not deal-breakers collectively or in and of themselves, still essentially turned the balance of favor for me clearly over to LP+.
I prefer LauncherPro. Have used ADW briefly but always go back to LP. Even upgraded to the Plus version.
In the LauncherPro settings under General, I checked the Droid Hack and noticed some apps would hang when I would exit them. Unchecked this option and it improved performance, but there is still some lag sometimes.
Was wondering if anyone can post optimal settings here so we can try them out. I purchased the Pro lisence.

+1 on LauncherPro Plus! Hard to beat, and the sense type widgets are awesome! I barely miss the sense ui on my incredible.
they are both fantastic. LP widgets (especially themed) and 3d drawer look awesome and another plus with the dock. ADW though i find to be nices scrolling through homescreens and the upswipe to bring up a new osx-like dock is appealing. That being said im running both with ADW as my hard button default home, 10 homescreens between the two of them, LP used for "large" widgets and ADW for shortcuts and smaller widgets. It switches launchers instantly thru dock shortcuts so i wont be getting rid of either one of them. Attempting to skin them 2 different colors isnt going so well tho...
How do you keep your phone from stuttering and lagging running two cpu-demanding launcher setups? With all those screens and the need for quick redraws, your heap memory has GOT to be ready to burst.
I was actually pretty surprised. Android does a pretty damn good job managing resources it seems. I do keep setcpu at 1k all the time unless the screen is off or im under 20%, which is never. That probably helped. I honestly didnt expect it to work this well though
add me up on the LP users...

Launcher Pro....no contest. ADW launcher is ok but Cyanogen like to talk @#$%
Launcherpro ftw!!!! never use ADW it is pure crap compared to LP
I am surprised no one has mentioned Zeam. Pretty good. And there is a thread right here on XDA...

I like some of the settings (swipe up for app drawer, swipe down for taskbar, double tap for dialer etc).
I have LaincherPro+, but right now I am using Zeam.
I’ve been using launcher pro plus since I bought my DX at launch. It's been great and has lots of options to customize the hell out of the phone.

Sense like calender widget

I just moved from the HTC Eris(Hero) to a Motorola Droid 2 and so far I am liking it, but i am missing Sense calendar widget. Is there anything in market or something an XDA dev created that is similar to it? Or is there some how a way to get it working on the D2 with out Sense, which I hear because of the locked boot-loader is not possible at the moment. Thank you.
Launcher Pro Plus has a built in calendar widget that looks very good and similiar to the sense calendar.
No, it can't be ported because Sense is closed source and widgets rely too heavily on the sense framework. I use pure calendar grid for this function.
I prefer not to use another launcher as I am enjoying stock Android right now(a difference change from sense which I really like). I will take a look at pure widget.
BTW they were able to get most of sense on the original Droid/milestone because the boot loader was not locked. Or on the G1, G2, and other HTC device that didn't natively come with sense. As long as you have access to the framework and bootloader I think you can use a sense based rom.

For what it's worth LauncherPro is based on the stock launcher, and is almost the same in terms of looks.. just added smoothness and functionality like said widgets, resizing, built-in notification dock, etc.. you could even put the Froyo dock background on it and it would look just like the stock Android. Just saying in case you think it will look all themed-out..

Yes but you are not able to use the widgets without using the sense launcher... it's as easy as that
I will demo both and see what I like better. I just assumed that pro meant paid version.
Edit: I guess if I want the calender widget I have to go with the paid plus version. I wish I could demo the Plus before I make a decision.
I have tried a few calendar Widgets including the one from launcher pro and Calendar Pad, but found that Jorte is the best one for me and my wife. Many options from sizes to colors. Extremely customizeable.
Look up Jorte in the marketplace, plus it's free
I use jorte. I think youll like it, http://androinica.com/2010/04/16/jorte-is-a-promising-android-calendar-replacement-app-reviews/
That doesn't look like a bad option either. Hmmmm.
