[Q] strange turning off when incoming call - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So here is the problem - my sgs 4g (currently running valhalla black, earlier same problem with stock 2.3.6) turns off when someone is calling. It's not happening every time i get incoming call, just sometimes. It turns off without any sign of doing it(no vibration, no sound, not even the animation so i don't know that its happening, when the phone is in my pocket), and the caller gets voice mail.
I think the problem started after updating to 2.3.6, but it also can be caused by falling on the floor(happened few times).
What do you think? Anyone had similiar problems?
I live in Poland, so i can't get it fixed in samsung care point because they don't support SGS 4G.
sry for my spelling mistakes, i'm doing my best, but that's not my first language.

I'd say the best you can try is Gremlin Remover to see if it solves your problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22596598&postcount=1

try tmo warranty after returning to stock gb

Gremlin Remover doesn't help. I flashed it only once.
I'm a bit afraid of sending it to USA Tmobile store from here, i think i'll look for some samsung magician in my country unless you have other ideas.
thanks for help and waiting for more solutions
#edit: is there any diagnostic software to check my phone hardware? Maybe something to save log of crash if its software failure?

When you say you flashed it once - do you mean Gremlin Remover or Valhalla Black?
And I wonder if it could be a modem issue for you since it started on KJ6. You might try flashing a different modem as a troubleshooting option.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16127939&postcount=1

i had that issue on one of my sgs4g's a while back. wipe your sd card on your computer, odin back to kj6 stock. once you odin back to stock, make sure you perform a factory reset with the sd card removed. reboot and let it sit for a few min. do not sign into google or anything. have someone call you and see if the problem persists. let the phone function that way for an hour or so. then sign into google, but do not dl any apps. put back in your empty sd card and then reboot the phone. after a day, if you do not have the issue, you should be good to go. if you have the issue after a day, post back and pm me if i do not respond (i probably won't; i'm swamped at work and I am rarely on)

Ive had the same thing happen on valhalla black and I found that on my phone it was actually a skin that I had been using with adw ex. I changed my skin and cleared all my cache and dalvik cache and did not have a single problem after that. There are so many different things it could be. just experiment with it.

@lumin30: I meant stock 2.3.6 ->valhalla black (remover was the second)
That's something. I'll try everything you guys posted above and let you know the results in a few days.
Thanks for everything, appreciate your help.
#edit: LogsProvider service keeps crashing after blackout on valhalla black and i have to reinstall it. After flashing, the phone works for about 24h and then turns off. When I turn it on, logsprovider stops unexpectedly every 15 sec and i have to flash it again.
Now I am not sure if it's connected to incoming calls

After weeks of flashing and testing there is only one thing I am sure - nothing helped.. I tried many ROMs, different kernels and modems.
Now I can't see any relation to the software. Only thing on my mind is the battery, usually when my sgs turned off, the battery lvl was below 70%, so I ordered new one. I'll let you know if this changed anything.

A few gripes maybe you guys can remedy.

Hey everybody,
I am a reformed iPhone loser, I had the original 2G, got the 4 for about a week and a half on release, and a good friend of mine talked me into returning it for a captivate and I have been hooked on droids ever since. I am an IT guy by trade and a tinkerer in general so Android is perfect for me. Found this site and haven't looked back.
Recently my company put me on their verizon plan and I opted for the Charge as I have been very happy with my Galaxy phone from Samsung. My company is cool and doubt they would mind me throwing custom ROMs on this beast, I just have to build up the courage to risk the warranty on this thing. Anyway, now that my overly long introduction has been done, here are a few gripes I've found so far and hopefully you guys can help me with.
The basics (non development related)
1.) I love the factory e-mail app, the fact it handles both my corporate and gmail in one central app is nice. However, the Gmail app still takes priority for whatever reason and all my gmail mail goes to that, but if I manually press refresh on the e-mail app, it will load. I have tried to uninstall the Gmail app but as you all know, it's embedded.
2.) My cappy handled threaded texts very well, my charge seems to break up the bubbles by pages like a normal phone would. I will get seperated messages all the time, hate that.
3.) I get a lot of double text messages, no clue why.
4.) My SD card has already corrupted, I took a picture yesterday, clicked on the small thumbnail in the corner and deleted it from there, all of a sudden all of my pictures turned to small grey boxes with ? symbols. The phone still detected the card and displayed the storage space, but I kept getting a notification the card was damaged. Eventually I formatted it, but then couldn't get it to mount. I physically removed the card and the battery and let the phone sit for 2-3 minutes, then put it back in, and after media scanning, the card was working again. I could then take pictures, and store them normally again.
5.) Random data droppage, from 3G to 1x to nothing, then back to 3G. Never had so many time outs on the web browser before. The WiFi also seems to be pretty bad, sitting next to my router at home, I was getting 1-2 bars?
Development related
1.) Like I said, I haven't even attempted anything yet, but from my initial reading it seems like Samsung and VZW have teamed up to make it more difficult to get root on these phones. On my cappy a simple .zip installation through recovery could get root, but to have to flash a kernel to get root, seems risky and unnecessary.
Hopefully this phone will grow on me as I start to explore the third-party stuff more, I know custom ROMs on my cappy made the phone a completely different beast.
Thanks,

Glad to have u on board with the Charge! Ok to address some of ur issues, the one issue that I seem to have in common with u would be the signal dropping. That has to be the most annoying thing. Its not something I can pinpoint myself, but I would guess it has to be something to do with a faulty antenna in the phone or maybe some issues with the towers. I've taken it up wit VZW and there isnt anything they could do except send me a replacement, which STILL has the reception issues.
Another thing u will notice is that sometimes ur data reception just wont return AT ALL. pulling the sim card and battery for a few mins solves this issue.
When it comes to developement, rooting this phone is as easy as u would think. Flashing a kernel with Odin isn't a pain at all. Very simple. Flash the recovery, then kernel to lock the recovery in. From there, flashing via CWM is easy. U know the drill comin from a Captivate I assume.
Hopefully some of this helps u out man! Don't be scared to take the plunge!!!!

Welcome to the droid charge. for your email problem, open the settings app, scroll to accounts and sync, select your gmail and then uncheck sync gmail. now go to the email app, open your gmail, press menu, press account settings and check email notifications. now go into email check frequency and put it at what youd like.
The data drop problem happens to me maybe once every few months and it will be fixed in the gingerbread update with the new radio software. your sd card problem appears to be solved. the double messages would be solved by downloading a third party messaging app or doing a data wipe (in settings>privacy>factory data reset) but that will wipe everything except for your email and contacts and you may get some of your apps back automatically but for the most part you would have to reinstall redownload them manually
Kernels arent very risky because there is almost no way to file brick this. there is a full odin which will completely bring it back to stock. also if you get a voodoo kernel (almost every kernel) you get improvements to your phone's sound quality, you get root and you get the option to change it from the laggy samsung rfs filesystem to ext4 filesystem which results in faster boot times, faster media scanning, faster app opening, and pretty much everything gets a small speed boost.
Thanks for all the help guys!
I took the plunge yesterday and flashed Humble 1.5.1 using ODIN, other than having it scare the **** out of me twice by failing before I realized I had to put the battery back in once in download mode, it passed with flying colors and I now love this phone so much more. All my problems seem to be solved with this new ROM too, no more double texts, no more email problems, data seems to be more stabile too.
It's faster, it's simpler, it's not doo doo brown, and it's way better on battery. Looking forward to being apart of this community and trying out all the ROMs.

I actually loled at that last sentence.
The data going in and out has been a problem for everyone on every rom at some point. It's a Samsung/Verizon issue. The quick fix is to go into airplane mode for a few seconds, then turn it off. BTW Imnut's just released an update for his kernels a few days ago that has improved performance fairly well, so look into flashing an updated kernel.

NExus S Zulugen Rom: story then ?????

So the excitement of the nexus s is still flowing through my veins. I have now switched 2 radios and 3 roms.
I recently went from SuperOSR to Zulugen. Yesterday I had a MAJOR crash. My google voice froze up sending a text. Even after a reboot it was stuck in a sending loop. I then decided to turn off data and see if that worked but that only made it worse as i couldnt turn my data back on. I then force closed it which started bombarding my phone with force close errors.
THEN CRAAAAAAAAAAASH force close errors every 2 secs, no data (even after the *#*# reset.
I tried restoring to an earlier image i took but forgot it crashed during that too and the image was bad. I then just restored back to the base rom and redid my phone after doing the *#*# baseband settings just for good measure.
these are the apps i THINK were responsible for the crashing. Proton Voltage, Cache Cleaner NG, PREY
I will stay away from Proton for now, and have put CC NG back on but removed certain system actions and apps i DONT want it to touch. As of now prey is on it but not active.
anyway here is my question
When you change your base-band radio do you ALWAYS have to do the *#*# or just if you lose your 3?
Can the wrong radio cause issues with a certain ROM? I am running UCKD1 as of now with zulugen. second time around it seems good but who knows and I always wipe data between roms.
I have asked the question earlier but in the wrong section, as Im still getting the hang of where to post things here but anyone from the New England area have a good suggestion on a specific radio? Im in ct near the water, the dead zone of signal ESPECIALLY for ATT
If I flash my E! radio back (either the image i took or the one form the thread) it states to back up your EFS which i did. But why does it ask this, should i worry going back to the original E1 radio?
Do i have nice shoes?
thanks

Frequent freezes of S2 LTE (I727R). Not sure how to resolve?

I am having a very annoying problem with my Rogers I727R S2 phone on ICS stock.
The problem started to increase in frequency to become a real pain.
My phone would suddenly freeze and stop responding to screen touches for a bit, sometimes as long as 2 minutes, before bouncing back. When it comes back, it initializes as if it is restarting, so I would feel a vibration, lose all open applications and see icons start appearing on notification bar one by one. The media scanner would start working and software installed on SD card start appearing.
The problem happens spontaneously and out of the blue. It was occurring at less intensity on gingerbread before upgrading to ICS. After upgrading, it was not that frequent until only recently.
I noticed the problem goes away when I remove the SD card or when I am on flight mode with no Wi-Fi. I changed the SD card but this did not help. Connecting from home or work does not differ, so a problem with Wi-Fi would be ruled out. I once had a problem with home Wi-Fi when somehow the router’s DNS was not resolving, when this problem of mine was at its prime, and my phone was rendered unusable as it only takes couple of minutes before acting up.
I spent quite long time searching for an answer and so far no luck
I just placed a video illustration of the problem, and hope to get feedback on even where to head.

Try a different launcher.
the only way to troubleshoot is to start from scratch, read my 2nd link in my sig to restore to stock ics, reset within the recovery when odin finishes flashing, also keep out your sdcard out just to make sure your sdcard or its slot is not the problem. if still having probs its hardware failure, should still be under warranty

I went through your instructions restoring to stock ICS (which did not wipe my data as I thought it would). This did not help though, and the problem persisted. After that I decided to a hard factory reset. This appears to have done the job and my phone was working very smoothly.
Because my phone is rooted, I restored to the buggy stock again using CWM in hope to be able to figure out how to my migrate my purchased software, data and settings after hard reset. I wonder if there is a way to preserve important files even with replacing systems. I want to hard reset again but I keep my important information

after restoring stock perform a reset in the recovery, if old data is still there after reset its a hw defect in the nand
edit: reread your post so nm what i just posted, use titu or other backup software

Issues with calls and various other things.

Hello! Here I am with my Q.
I got it last week, rooted w/o BL unlock, then a few days later I went to Moto to unlock the boot loader. all went well. (AHAHA, They worded the terms for the unlock as if EVERYTHING at ONCE will break. It seems to me that this has become reality.)
Then I had issues with GPS and Camera not working at all.
With each flash I got one or the other working, not usually both.
Now Both Camera and GPS are working wonderfully. Here's the kicker, I've found that calls are not working well.
I make calls, they go through but end shortly after they start with silence. when you attempt to end the call, it wont do it, or it will about 5 minutes after end has been pressed.
On receiving calls, often times it wont come through at all, if it does there's a chance that you wont get to pick it up. It will act like the caller has hung up. Missed call. Some times it will let it through, and a few seconds in and go to silence.
Here was my process.
1. Rooted with Motochopper. Played around in stock for a while then got fed up with it and all of it's bloat. Not to mention horrible batterylife.(Still has horrible battery life on CM, even when underclocked.)
2. Unlocked bootloader via Motorola.
2a flashed OpenRecovery, CM10.1 (Yes the CDMA version)and gapps.
3. Yay CM. Sadly, nothing works right. (Yes there were wipes.)
4. Was suggested to flash JB FXZ, did that.
5. Flashed TWRP and CM+Gapps. (No camera, but GPS worked.)
5a. Flashed 5/20 Build. Camera worked but no GPS.
5b. Flashed 5/26 build over 5/20 and both Cam and GPS work now.
The call issues were persistent throughout all of the builds I tried.

Please help me diagnose this.
I'm not looking for "It's you/your device/doin' it wrong/works for me" or "go back to stock"
I'm looking for help. I need a working device.
Here's some logs with a test call.
it failed about 2 sec in. Skype hung up due to dead line. Phone wont hang up.
Radio reset, data resync.
then I powered off the device after it 'hung up'(radio reset)(If I dont hit hang up, the call timer will continue count up)
lionspaws.net/android/ignoreme/logs.zip (zip,bzip2)
Halp!
Bump?
I've been having the same call issues, with every rom except stock.
Sounds like you tinkered alot.
I suggest you do a full reflash with rsd/ stock rom. Since u have unlocked bootloader I suggest you to install custom recovery like twrp or cwm. That will also root your device. After that retry flashing cm10.1 nightly and gapps exactly as described in their threads.
Everything else would be tinkering around broken builds. So start with fully clean device through rsd.
Also about the gps problem: it is suggested to get a gps lock on stock rom before installing aftermarket rom.
I'm having the same problem, I've RSD'd to stock and all that stuff too. I ALWAYS clean install. Yet I'm having this problem on most roms. I haven't tried any kernels yet, so maybe that would help things but I dunno. I'm gonna play around with that some time and figure it out.

This is the first I have ever heard of this type of issue...
Logs please, with thorough detail on what happened. I can't recreate this, and 99% of others can't either (or just put up with a non-functional phone. Seems doubtful...)
Edit - as far as I know, the OP has fixed all of the issues they were having... maybe they can chime in with the process, but my kernel would have nothing to do with cell service.
Alright, here's a logcat... it's weird, I can only hear the first word they say and vice versa. Then the call gets quiet but stays connected. Then after clicking hang up, the call isn't really hung up. I have to go back to the dialer and click hang up again. Then, after a minute or so I'll hear the hang up tone and it'll finally hang up. I'm doing clean installs so I'm not sure what's going on here. Hopefully this will help resolve this issue, 'cus it's a huge problem for me :/
EDIT: Just flashed a stock rom and I'm not having this issue at all.

Anyone have a clue what's going on with my phone?

[Completed] Sprint note 4 rooted, completely screwed

Got my note back in November, rooted through odin in December. Everythings been grand and perfect.
Till I watched a video on youtube 2-3mnths ago about good rooted apps (wanted to get more daring other than xposed) loaded gsm gestures app? I think was the name. Kept it for a week, didnt use it. Uninstalled it, phone rebooted, instead of the normal "app uninstalled"
After that my phones been laggy, freezes, and freezes and turns off. Its factory wiped itself 8 times. I have countless posts on Reddit timelining everything. Long short is, tried liquid smooth to see if that would fix my problem, lost text messaging with that could only text for an hr a day, flashed stock sprint firmware and rerooted afterwards, have been slow to reload apps on phone, incase of factory reset or whatever. my phone is now taking 75+ batter pulls to get into a normal boot, every 15bat pulls it jumps into download mode "could not do normal boot ddi_mms read fail" and now an ssl text ive only seen once today, ill try and write that down if it happens again.
Finally when I get back into my phone, sometimes I have to update prl to get service again, the other day my phone lost signal and all my network settings were unselected, I had to select them all and my phone was fine, then I was on the phone and it cut me out in the middle of a call and said roaming lost or something, and I had to reapply cdma/lte on sprint.
Im beyond frustrated, im getting married in 2 weeks, and going out of country immediately after, so I need a working phone as most my business is conducted through it. I have no upgrade on sprint, and cant afford to throw out 400$ for a "new" note 4
Please please please someone help me.
Thanks for your time.
Matt
Hi,
Here's a thread on returning to stock firmware. That should give you a fresh start,

If you want to find other options, you could ask for other ideas in your device section here,

Good luck!
