I used to be able to zoom in and out with my Vibrant for video and stills, however... when I got on my Nexus S, I couldn't pinch to zoom or use the volume rockers. So where is it? I tried the Camera 360 app, it told me that zooming is not enabled on the device. Please tell me why... please...

Easy, walk closer to the subject you're trying to take a picture of.
Seriusly it doesn't support zoom in Camera mode???
It's strange...
I was pretty shocked by this as well. No 720p and no digital zoom is out of characteristic for a top of the line phone. I'm hoping for a Google update of the camera application bundled with some native video chat. *fingers crosses*
It's not out of the realm of possibility. They DID add multi-touch to the N1 soon after release.
As some users here say that the 720p video recording is hardware limitation, maybe also the zoom fuction is also hardware limitation...???
As the native google camera app has the zoom fuction, it's strange that they didn;t put on Nexus S. That's why i am thinking may the camera zoom is also hardware limitation...
I think Samsung kept the good 5Mp Camera hardware for its phones (such as Galazy S and feature ones...)

No digital zoom is not a hardware limitation just an oversight by google. I hope we get an update to add this and make the browser faster.

It's the same camera, but they had to remove the image processing chip for the camera to make room for stuff (like NFC). N1 didn't have 720P recording either (due to bandwidth limitations of the hardware) until someone hacked it in at a bandwidth that the hardware could support (22fps).

Digital zoom is not a real zoom. Only thing it does is image crop then stretch. You can do that if you want on your pc after taking the pic. No real use of digital zoom.

lol @ walk closer.
It's the last option on the 'toolbar' normally.

i don't get how the 720p is hardware limited on the nexus s when the mytouch 4g has about the same specs and can do it.

This.... There is ZERO purpose to digital zoom.
Agreed. Digital zoom does more damage than good. To get a better picture on a subject, just walk closer to it. You could use this method for even digital cameras because at a certain point those even use digital zoom (you can tell because the quality decreases dramatically and it usually stops zooming in at that point, making you manually start zooming in again).
If I am at the stadium I can't "walk closer". My 8-year-old Nokia does have digital zoom, that's just ridiculous.
Yeah, I can stretch the image on my PC, but what about videos? I can stretch videos on my PC so why have I a smartphone? I can just surf the Internet at home or use the telephone at home.
+1 on stadium, +1 on shooting wild life as well, where I can't just "walk closer". Most of the time I only need 800x600 to upload to facebook and stuffs straight thru my phone. So I won't save it to my pc first and then use my pc software to crop it.
Any 3rd party software that does cropping?
Galaxy uses volume buttons to zoom
Did y'all try the volume buttons?
Took me a while to figure out that's how to zoom in on the epic 4g lol

EDIT: nevermind. Idk I guess samsung just wanted to gimp the nexs s. And you guys need to stop trying to justify missing features that are standard....my 5 year old LG had. 1.3 mp back camera and digital zoom lol wtf
It doesn't have the instant photo with no shutter lag, right? And I see from CM10 that in JB recording is only mono, and there's no HDR mode.
It takes photo's instantly, no difference than the touchwiz camera in that regard. As far as features there are a few missing, but for the most part they are all there. Me personally it takes great photos for what i do, i never bought into all of the gimmick features like best shot and HDR mode
After coming from the GNex I don't know if I want the AOSP camera is my only issue. It seems the AOSP software ruins the cameras and makes for worse photos overall.
Hi all,
So I recently got a Lenovo A5500-f tablet and as much as I'm really enjoying this new gadget I was disappointed to find AFTER purchasing it that both the front and rear camera have a fixed focus lens, meaning the camera is horrible unless you're taking photos outside in distance; kinda like point and shoot. This is also a shame because a lot of apps now (mainly the ones for entertainment purposes) use the camera feature and I feel like I'm missing out on using them now. The camera quality is also extremely horrible for anything up close, or unless you have VERY strong lighting. When I purchased the tablet I only saw the 5MP sticker and thought it was decent for a tablet, not realizing that the camera cant even focus.
My question is are there ANY apps at all that make this camera atleast half useable... Paid or free I don't mind. I kinda just need something which will atleast let me take a photo.. My old Iphone 4 takes better quality images.
Thanks!!
bumpp, anyone??
I am currently using a Galaxy Note Edge on Verizon (KitKat) and I am having serious issues with the Camera (which is supposed to be on-par or even better than one found in the iPhone 6).
I suspect these are software issues, so I'm hoping someone can tell me whether these issues get better with Lollipop (or whether there is an alternative camera app that is better optimized for the Note Edge)
The two most annoying things:
1) Unacceptably Slow Camera: When I take a picture with the Samsung Camera App, it takes at least 5-6 full seconds to see the picture I just took after tapping the thumbnail of said picture. It doesn't matter whether HDR is on or off, or whether I use the camera from the lock screen or home screen. I noticed that the delay is not as bad, but still bad, after taking a few pictures (it's then down to a still painfully slow 2-3 seconds)
2) Motion Pictures: The pics look fantastic, unless you have actual human beings in your picture that make movements or blink with their eyes. I'm not looking to take photos of race cars at dawn, but it would be nice to be able to take pictures of friends in a restaurant, for example.
Why can't the app chose a higher shutter speed for pictures with humans/moving objects in them? I'd rather have a slightly darker/grainier picture than a picture where faces are blurred like in the film "The Ring"....
I cannot comprehend how anyone would ship a flagship phone with these 2 issues, which are clearly software issues. SOMEONE at Samsung must have noticed this, no? It has a top-of-the-line quadcore processor and 3GB of RAM, for crying out loud. How is it possible that an iPhone 4 takes better 'motion' shots and accesses photos faster?
I know there are plenty of other Camera Apps available, but is there one that is perhaps optimized to address issue #2? This must be possible to improve with software optimization.
Same here. I don't remember it always being this slow.
I find it so slow to open the camera from the lock screen that I hardly ever bother. I took great pics with my lg g3, simply because the camera was super easy and fast to start.
Anyone know if there are any fast camera apps? I notice, whenever I take a picture, there's a slight delay, turning what would've been a perfect picture into a blurry mess. My old HTC One(m7) took really fast photos, pretty much instant to when I pressed the button. Similar to what the iPhones do, I think. Anyone know of any Camera apps, not the AOSP or Google camera app, that takes quick photos?
"Manual Camera" works great for me.
Yeah, manual camera is fast as hell. Close to galaxy s6 camera. At least on lollipop.
