Tablet-optimized app is not showing in Tablet mode? - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

There are many popular apps, such as Mint and TripAdvisor, that are table-optimized in a single application. That is, they don't have two separate applications for phone and tablet mode, one applications does both.
I downloaded these apps but they're not showing up as tablet-optimized mode, even in landscape mode. It seems that there is some sort of "device ID" in the GT7+ that makes the applications think that the device is a "phone".
Have anyone experienced these issue?
If you can, try to download Mint or TripAdvisor. You'll see in Android Market they have screenshot of the app in tablet-optimized mode (and is advertised as such) and if those screenshot show up in your GT7+.
My GT7+ is rooted and that's it, I don't have ClockWork.

I see the same "phone" UI you do. The new TripAdvisor app is an HTML5 android app. I'd guess that they may determine which UI is served based on the device screen/viewport size and the 7.0 plus' screen doesn't qualify as large enough.

lowering the dpi value to <130 should work

Happens with aldiko book reader as well and it is a real issue because the phone version doesn't have a menu button compatible with honeycomb so one can't do many things. Frustrating.

[Q] Market without the top carousel rotating apps

Hey guys I am having a problem with my Market that hopefully someone could help me with.
So I was playing with my transformer - testing youtube, websites, & downloading apps. All of a sudden the top section of the Market - where it usually has the flash-based (?) carousel of the featured apps - is gone. I believe this occurred after I update Adobe Flash to the latest 10.2.157.51. Don't exactly remember what happened.
When I put the Market widget on the desktop, it keep showing nothing but the autoCAD WS app (See pic). And while in Market, I can't even click on the "Featured Tablet Apps" section. However, "Top Free Apps" section works.
I tried to go to Settings->Applications->Market-> clear data and clear cache but was unsuccessful. Also did a factory data rest but that didn't work.
I have verified with a friend's xoom and he doesn't have the same problem I'm having. He updated to the lastest flash too. So I'm not sure if that's the problem.
I am on build 20110414.
UPDATE: Seems like market is back to normal with the carousel and everything
okay so it's not just me. rebooted my TF 3 times cause i thought something was wrong.
nothing to do with flash though. i installed flash yesterday and the market was working fine up until about 2 hours ago when this happened to me.
something just got screwed up in the tablet market thats all.
i am having this problem right now, so it just fixes itself out?
yea i had my doubts that it was the flash update.
i still don't get how my friend's xoom has the market fully working with the top carousel of apps and feature tablet apps section working.
do you guys also have the issue where the market widget only displays the autoCAD app?
this error is also not letting me open/purchase any paid apps
Just checked mine because I did not have that problem, it loaded up with the carousel and then just disappeared. It must be something to do with android market place.
I can see my paid apps as installed but did not carry out a search to see if paid apps show on the market place when searching.

Now I am having the same problem, it shows the paid app on the market but when you select it, it gives an error saying that details of the paid app cannot be found.
same issue running modaco hr3 - based off 0423 update.

Well don't you think that is totally amazing?
That was the most annoying things i had with my device, some scrolling carousel taking up nearly 40% of the app promoting random apps that were of no interest to me whatsoever
I would have paid money to have it removed!
What was wrong with the 'ordinary' market from phones? where you were told of 'latest apps', 'my apps', 'paid apps', on pages that i could go to if i wanted to by clicking on the link.
Another annoying thing was that worthless market widget
Who would want a widget on their screen displaying random **** that you have no interest in it's just ill conceived garbage!
Why couldn't i adjust it in settings so it would display new released apps from a certain section 'productivity' for example
Because it looks like the best android developers knowlonger work for google, they have all left and gone to work for HTC and sense development

I totally agree with you however I would like to purchase apps too, this bug( or fix, depending on how you see it) has screwed up the paid apps which if it didn't, i wouldn't have complained.
Anyone found a fix yet?
It seems google has been doing something with the market over the last few days, as lots of weird goings on have occured. I'm speculating that a tablet section will be added not too far off in the future, like itunes does for iphone/ipad. The layout has certainly changed over the last few days, that's for sure. Probably just a matter of time before your problems are resolved.
I'm having problems with seeing paid apps in the market as well... they aren't there!
I guess it will be the web market until the market app gets fixed.
Same problem. Im not rooted. Can't install or view details on paid apps.

that would be awesome. but right now i just want a functioning market. that worthless market widget is even less functional when it keep displaying the same autocad app. argh
as some have mentioned before, I'm really hoping that an update to the market is imminent
There's a thread at Google here about this -

"External" App Backgrounding - True 100% Multitasking for the Next Gen of Apps?

"External" App Backgrounding - True 100% Multitasking for the Next Gen of Apps?
There are many apps in Android that don't behave when you multitask or should i say TRY to multitask with them. Recently more and more apps just refuse to multitask, as they will either stop or reload themselves to their home screen when the app leaves the foreground.
For instance NetFlix, WatchESPN, TWEETCASTER, the native android music player and in-browser streaming radio/video apps will abruptly cease playing the second you do something else. Even worse when you return to the app you have to start all over as it won't be in the same menu as when you left the app. And these are just to name a few of these misbehaving apps.
I was hoping that some kind of app could solve this dilemma, where it would externally keep a chosen app "in memory" or in a locked state. This would give the power to the user instead of allowing the app to dictate how it should run on the OS. It would be 100% TRUE BACKGROUNDING for the Android OS!
I should be able to designate the app or apps that should be "backgrounded" or "locked" in memory, so that we could do any other tasks and if I was to return to the locked app it would be in the same exact state as when you left it.
If the "locked" or "backgrounded" app was a streaming video/radio app, then if you were to lock the app in memory, then the streaming video/radio should continue to stream or play in the background until you either manually exit the app or un-lock the app.
There were a few iphone apps that did this similar function as well, running off the "backgrounder" function. I'm hoping that this can be duplicated on the Android OS, as this is a very frustrating shortcoming of the Android OS. I realize that Android does offer true multitasking, but the problem is that it also caters to misbehaving apps, giving them the ability to not multitask.
I would imagine that the app would have to run under root, but I think this can be done. Anyone think they can offer this up to the community? Thanks!

Why does my browsers home page keep changing?

This is on a generic a23 q8h tablet, I was also getting popups in the form of fake facebook alerts about some stupid drone company.I deleted 2 apps/plugins/whatever they were and the popups went away but my homepage changes between smartdrone.com, vandroidnews.com and kszz.com.I want to put a boot up someones ass for installing this garbage on these tablets and selling them.
What browser do you use ?
Check the browser settings it may have option to set the desired homepage.
Stock browser, there was also baidu browser installed but i uninstalled with titanium backup.I changed the setting but it gets replaced with one of those three pages.
Tried clearing data of the browser?
I just got a Q88 A33 "generic" tablet and I too get the "default" page and the "home page" in the browser changed to "smartdrone.com". This was/is the behavior on delivery so it is probably part of their installed firmware.
If you have made any progress on how to fix this then please let me know, I will be reading up on Android and how to take a look at the files in the ROM and see if I can find a solution but I am not very familiar with Android so some pointers would be great. For example, would this be the result of some .apk that can simply be removed or is it some shell script or file somewhere in the actual ROM files?
It's because theres a factory installed trojan, yes its baked right into the factory firmware and if you remove it with say an anti-virus program the word DEMO in big red letters will be superimposed on the screen making the tablet useless.I've seen manufacturers offering an apk to 'fix' it but that just re-installs the trojan. Here is a fix that I got from another website and uploaded to my Box account.
Instructions from another forum:
A backup will be made before actual modification are made. To restore the backup, rename SystemUI-backup.apk to SystemUI-A20/A23.apk and restart the corresponding function.
HowTo use:
1. Scan for Device: searches and verifies a connected android device.
2. Scan for Trojan: checks if the trojan responsible for the demo lock is active.
3. If 2. is positive, check the Build.prop to see if you have a A20 or A23 model.
4. A20 FIX or A23 FIX, depending on the results from 3., you choose one of these.
5. The script will reboot the device to recovery mode, manually perform a factory reset.
Definition for Cloudservice / DEMO Trojan:
For clarification let me state that Android by "default" or "origin" is not susceptible to virus' and being built on Linux platform it is "open source" so that is where you get some LAME people and large corporations making these virus' encoded into the devices original configuration [ROM] and NOT NATIVE TO ANDROID.
Perfect example for how we the users can infect our own devices would be the small flashlight apps we all use daily and available for free on Google Play Store... these can factually be classified as "Intrusive Adware" that we install for quick access to our devices camera flash for use as a flashlight and yet we tolerate the pop-ups generated by the app.
Again not NATIVE to Android... this is something we the USERS have put on our devices. Harmless but annoying and same principle.
What is the Cloudservice / DEMO Trojan?
My definition based on learned knowledge as no "official" definition is or most likely will ever be available.
Firstly, in some devices it seems to be in a "sleep" mode until one day it simply "shows up" according to some reports. Our new Tool at TechKnow seeks and destroys the hidden files and configs totally eliminating all traces of the Trojan.
[SPECULATION: it could possibly be incorporated into some downloadable apps in the future. The same basic principle as adware is incorporated into the flashlight apps would suffice. However, it being included in downloadable apps is NOT confirmed and if/when it is the confirmed apps will immediately be reported to their distributor whether Google Play or Amazon App Store etc... by your friends at TechKnow]
It is a truly deceptive application that is hardcoded into the must have system dependent "framework-res.apk" on some of the newer Android devices ROM from the factory. The Trojan can track your app content such as Browser and can lock your device into a "demo" mode which will display large red DEMO text in caps across all your screens. The app is also linked to Baidu.
Baidu, Inc., incorporated on January 18, 2000, a Chinese web services company headquartered in the Baidu Campus in Haidian District in Beijing.
ok.... so you are being tracked and monitored by the Chinese?
but that's not all...
The secondary part to the Virus/Trojan is more of a pain in the  imho than tracking and reporting my web history to an unknown Chinese web service company [for who knows what they seek to learn or truly have access to with this Trojan on your device]...

App immediate closing. Installed from playstore. Tablet/tv stick restriction?

I just downloaded an app from the playstore on my MK809IV. installed just fine, but right after launch and the welcome screen, it just shuts down and i'm back at android home screen.
I think this has smt to do with the fact its running on a android tv stick instead of a phone. On my android phone it works like normal. How can this easily be solved?
app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tr.atv
Again the same with another app.. In the playstore it states it's made for phones. But I can still download and install it..
Anyone know a way to bypass this please?
UPDATE:
I think the problem is different then what I first thought. It seems a lot of apps are opening like normal phone apps. This way things are stretched out to fill the TV.. Shouldn't the apps be opening in tablet mode/landscape mode?

Looking for any non-launcher 2D android app manager that acts like a launcher

Looking for any non-launcher 2D android app that can run on the quest and acts like a launcher
The public post that explains with a video:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/vrmai/permalink/1433336956848923/
I know that there are many android launchers that integrate with the home-screen and that can be set as "default launchers" for android.
I've had no success launching them from oculus quest after I installed their .APKs via sidequest.
My conclusion is that every app that is a launcher can not be launched in oculus quest.
What I am looking for is an app that acts like a launcher, meaning they fulfill the following 2 features:
shows a list of 100% of installed apps on the device
allows creating virtual "folders" (visible only from the app) for customizing apps sorting (drag and drop from previous (*) )
but that app must not be a launcher.
I have a few bad examples, for example es explorer and kodi - they both are 2D and have oculus-quest-installable-apks and are runnable, and they can launch other apps from their own interfaces, but they are an overkill for my purpose.
I am looking for something light-weight, that acts like go-launcher, but in fact can not be set as a regular android's home screen's default launcher because in fact it does not qualify for android as a launcher, but just yet another 2D app.
Is there such a thing? if not what are closest 2D alternatives that can launch and list other apps that you could list?
Edit:
I've given it more thought, such a solution would be great but still not good enough
as spending a lot of time searching for the 2d launcher in the huge list of installed apps still kind of defeats the purpose.
As a complete solution I need an app manager that has a web interface as well, that way I could quickly connect to it using the browser!
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glextor.appmanager.free
This is a decent 1 option I stumbled upon and it runs on the quest, but I am still looking for something that gives you a web ui to do the same thing
EDIT:
never mind I take it back, this app manager is useless for quest, everything it launches launches in a black screen, yes even vr games, indie games, official oculus store games, everything launches in a black screen. the app in the video above is completely useless for the quest.
I'm back at the beginning, still looking for a customizeable category/folder based 2D app manager for android that can launch vr apps from the quest and not in a black screen.
Preferably one with a web server so I could manage it from a pc and also find it quickly from the quest's browser.
If I understand you correctly, try this: https://sidequestvr.com/app/199/quest-app-launcher

I am already using this, but it has no built in categories manager inside the app, it has to be done manually by editing some json file from a computer.
and also this is a 3d vr app that runs on unity and is heavy,
I want something more lite-weight and quicker but also mandatory that it has a built in categories manager via drag and drop and that it can launch vr apps
so far I have yet to find such a thing.
