CANNOT flash any ROM :(

Ok I got my G2x last month, have it rooted w/ OneSuperClick...(they said, to make sure you're rooted, check to see if u have the superuser icon in your phone, it's there.
So I'm rooted, nandroid backed-up and have the recoverymod flashed too.....
I have tried to flash a few nightly roms (p99_46.zip is the latest) as well as the Eagleblood 1.0.4. None of the install......they start w/:
-- Installing: /sdcard/EagleBlood1.04.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/EalgleBlood1.04.zip (bad)
Installation aborted.
(( so I'm forced to restore my stock back up.....
anyone have any suggestions...

P.S... also....I heared about "gapps"...what is it and do I need it at all? When is the official 2.3.x (gingerbread) coming from Tmobile? I just want GB on my g2x

make sure u flashed clockwork recovery via NVflasher to TRULY gain a mod recovery. I always put the roms I wanna flash onto my phone's memory and NOT the microSD card. maybe that'll help.

Looks like a corrupt download. Delete the zip and try downloading again.

Thnx for the reply. I tought I heard to have the ROMS in external memory card. Cuz, for example that's where clockworkmod backs up your nandroid.
Where do you place the ROMS(most roms have like 3 files in a compressed zip format.......i.e example.....the eagleblood ROM name is EagleBlood1.04.zip when u download it....inside the zip, theres two folders.....META-INF and "system".....a file called "boot.img" and another one called "installbusybox"...so where in the internal phone memory do u put the whole zip folder......?

put the WHOLE rom.zip on your memory. don't unzip anything.

after you flash the rom, flash gapps (this is the installer that includes market, gmail, etc.) You need it in order to get access to the market
Your steps should be as follows

2. Wipe Dalvik cache
3. Flash Rom

5. fix permissions
6. reboot

They all say the same....I got them from the cyanogenmod website......even Eagleblood1.04 from here.
funny thing i noticed tho, after I tried installing a rom, but of course it fails, I connect the phone to USB, go to external memory card, try to open the ROM zip file, it wont open....says "X:\EagleBlood1.04.zip The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"
Maybe it gets damaged or currupted during the time its trying to flash the files to the phone???

thanks....where do I get gapps and how do i go about installing it....I need to install it AFTER sucessfully flashing a rom, right?

if you are getting this error, please move your market-cache to your SD card:

Thanks for creating the topic. I'm having that problem but sadly your fix did not work for me . I used ES explorer with root to dump the cache all together and everytime I want to download something from market it tells me that there is insufficient space. BTW I'm running Android Revolution HD 1.1.2 if that makes any difference, anyone else have this problem?
P.S. I tried re-flashing with no positive results (Maybe partition problem?)

Didn't work.
But, was able to get it working from this link. Just create a file and run it using either terminal or Script Manager.
Hope, it helps for those facing issue. In my case, the actual issue was that I had converted to EXT4 due to which I had lost 4MB data in /cache, and hence only 27 MB was free. SO, some applications like Cordy (which needs 27.96 MB) wouldn't download. For others, just deleting the /cache contents either via root explorer or E-Strongs' file explorer or wiping cache in CWM would be enough.
PS: Another Market issue which I am facing is that some applications like Android System Info or Lookout Mobile Security can't be installed as it states that it is incompatible with SGS. (Only when doing via the web market, in mobile, no download option comes up)..
Any idea how to resolve this?

About89Puppies's solution perfectly works for me. Another symptom of the problem in my phone was a mount error for cache partition in CWM recovery. Now everything is just fine. Thank you guys!

Just reporting an experience...
Got that the other day when trying to fix my gps locking issues. I was flashing and reflashing roms like it was going out of style. LOL But in the end I got everything sorted.
But in doing reflashing of the roms, I did come across this error when the market tried to auto install all my apps without the use of titanium backup. I got a series of errors reporting that the apps did not install. I just did a wipe and restore to factory settings and then flashed a rom. Everything installed afterwards. I thought it was a formatting issue as well, but it cleared itself out basically.

Cache + Dalvik Cache didn't work for me :/

Hey, I have this problem to! My problem is I have a Samsung galaxy player that clockworkmod doesn't work on (I think). Mine is rooted though.
Edit: I went into dalvek cache with fileslick and deleted some of the files in there but still get the error? I am trying to install wind-up knight if that helps.

After browsing around, I found out solution:
The problem is in the cache folder (that I assume used by the market) is using small partition (around 20mb in my case).
So to solve this we need to change it to bigger partition.
1. You gonna need Android Terminal Simulator or equivalent terminal app. This will also require your Android rooted.
2. Type ’su’ (root permission request will be showned, you need to approve it).
3. Type ‘cd /’
4. Type ‘umount /cache’
5. Type ‘mount -o rw,remount -t rootfs rootfs /’ (to set the folder access to rw – read write)
6. Type ‘rmdir /cache’ (delete cache folder)
7. I personally using root explorer to do point 5-6
8. Type ‘mkdir /sdcard/cache’
9. Type ‘ln -s /sdcard/cache /cache’ (to link cache folder to /sdcard/cache – which shoud have bigger partition size)
Works like a charm!!!

[Q] Recovery Reboot problems

Hi, All,
Sorry if this has been answered before, I could not find it through search.
Whenever I reboot my Droid 2 Global, it goes straight into recovery (ClockWorkMod). I press the camera button and it reboots into the OS just fine. I tried uninstalling Clockwork, reinstalling ClockWork but that does not help.
Tried flashing but the regular firmware that I found did not work for my D2G phone.
Anyone has any clue on how to fix this?

Try actually removing CWM hijack files, and then reinstalling it.
Go to /system/bin, find logwrapper.bin; if it's there, delete logwrapper and rename logwrapper.bin to logwrapper. Check if the problem persists (I highly doubt it), then try reinstalling CWM.

The false logwrapper CWM installs starts the CWM binary when there's a certain file present in a certain directory. If there's no such file, it just starts logwrapper.bin and startup continues as usual. That's about it.

I tried installing ginerbread update abd it fails. That's why I am trying to solve this problem in the first place.
When I tried installing the update today, it downloaded the update, rebooted and went into recovery partition and started extracting it (progress bar was moving for about 5 seconds), then I saw droid with exclamation point, phone rebooted again and said "Update failed"

I'm a bit tired of explaining this all over again.
Download the standalone update file from somewhere, or fetch it from your phone's /cache directory with Root Explorer once the download completes (do not confirm installation, just fetch the zip file). Place it into the root directory (/) of your SD card. Rename it to update.zip. Reboot into stock recovery. Choose install sdcard:update.zip. Check the error messages it displays.
For 99% of the cases the problem is CWM's logwrapper.

Nope, never bothered with power menu. I don't reboot the phone too often and to say the truth don't even remember when last time I needed to take a screenshot. I use ShootMe and QuickBoot when I need to, they both do the job just fine.
Yes, power menu is fully modded now, including Screenshot option.

Yeppers it does.

I updated the link. I actually took it down on purpose, wanted to look at something but never had time.
I was troubleshooting an error message during boot time, so I traced it to the CIQ trying to execute some on-boot code, which was removed by Krylon. Strangely the original code itself doesn't do much, it's initilizing a broadcast receiver with an empty onReceive method. Removing this was a moot point, it probably didn't do much. I disabled the BOOT_COMPLETED permission for the service to avoid the error message.
So I looked at the CIQ more closely. What I found is a little peculiar. The main CIQ code is integrated quite deeply into the framework, it cannot be removed easily, there are just too many calls that send various metrics to the CIQ Agent. The main CIQ classes are not in the framework.jar, they are in ext.jar. Probably that's why nobody noticed them and never tried to modify them. What is strange that many calls seem to be not implemented. For example the sumbitMetric is an empty method, shouldSubmitMetric always returns zero, etc.
It's possible that T-Mobile decided not to use CIQ on our phone (at least extensively), but instead of removing it completely just plugged few calls.
I'm removing the "CIQ removed" description because it's actually not removed, although may not be doing much.

I cannot get it to boot. After the "Galaxy S 4G" screen, the screen goes back then nothing ever happens. I rebooted into CWM (which still shows Team Acid's logo) and tried fixing permissions to no avail.
Given that the OP says it won't wipe programs, data, etc, was it possibly a Bad Idea™ to have wiped everything before installing this ROM?

Indeed, installing from a blank phone (literally, I wiped everything) didn't work for me. I flashed Bryan's one-click with CWM, it booted, rebooted into recovery, flashed this, and it booted. Now for testing. Thanks, Anton!

There was a possible problem with 1.0.3 that I pulled off. The current one that I re-uploaded - I tried to install in on both fresh phone (after factory reset) and on top of a running ROM , everything seemed fine.
The problem was with framework-res.apk. I had to resign in because I changed some permissions in AndroidManifest.xml (related to CIQ), but something went wrong the first time.
There is a little bit of controversy with signing of framework-res.apk. Some say it's OK, some say the original cert should be kept. Maybe somebody else would chime in and tell me if I screwed it up or not.

I wipe everything, the ROM installs, and then black screen...noting. Let it sit for 20min however this did not resolve issue. I was able to install Valhalla no prob. flashed your rom on top of Valhalla and then my phone boots your rom. Do i need to install on top of another rom? I should just be able to whipe my phone and install your rom correct?

I can probably capture that because I can use adb to get into the OS. I ran top to see what, if anything, was hogging CPU but there was nothing obvious & CPU usage was minimal. I have the phone running now but I'm willing to wipe it again and re-flash. Mind you, I did more than factory reset. I was quite literally trying to start from scratch, so here's what I did (if this helps at all):
Backed up /efs to my PC
Backed up the SD card to my PC
Wiped cache
Wiped Davlik cache
Wiped battery stats
Performed a nandroid backup
Copied the backup from /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup to my PC
Formatted /data, /system, & /sdcard
Rebooted back into recovery
Copied the ROM to the SD card
Flashed it
Let it cook for ~20 minutes
So it was quite literally a blank slate.

Wow, you really wiped everything from your phone
I'd appreciate if you send me the log. All you need to do is to save the file with "adb logcat -d >MyLogFile.log" after couple of minutes of this black screen. On an factory reset phone ODEXed ROM should boot very fast the first time because it doesn't have to build Dalvik.
I just tried downloading from my own link and reinstalling, everything seems OK. I also tried installing after full phone reset yesterday, it went fine too. I don't want to reset and restore everything anymore, too lazy
If it proves to be the certificate in the framework-res.apk, I may need to put the original AndroidManifest.xml back.

You can snag the logcat from here. In case anyone wants them & to clarify what I did, here are the steps I followed (similar to above but more detailed):
- Boot into CWM
adb reboot recovery​- Disable voodoo lagfix
- voodoo lagfix​- disable lagfix​- /system lagfix off​- Reboot
- Create a backup directory structure on your PC (mine is in C:\Users\username\Downloads\SGS4G)
mkdir backups​cd backups​mkdir efs nandroid sdcard​- Backup /efs to your PC
cd efs​adb pull /efs/​- Backup /sdcard to your PC
cd ..\sdcard​adb pull /sdcard/​- Boot into CWM
adb reboot recovery​- Wipe cache
- wipe cache partition​- Wipe Dalvik cache
- advanced​- Wipe Dalvik Cache​- Wipe battery stats
- Wipe Battery Stats​- Create a nandroid backup
- +++++Go Back+++++​- backup and restore​- backup​- Copy the backup to your PC

Seems that it's not framework-res.apk issue, it's not complaining about any certificates.
A lot of unknown permissions in the log, but it's OK, we've removed some of the system packages that grant those permissions but they do more harm than good in the end.
The crash has something to do with that: *** FATAL EXCEPTION IN SYSTEM PROCESS: PowerManagerService. Hm......
Question. If after loading the ROM you shut down completely (power off) first and then boot instead of rebooting right from CWM, will it still do the same?
Btw you don't have to clean everything that extensively. Just do factory reset to erase /data and flash. Dalvik and /cache are cleared but the installer, the /system is completely overwritten anyway.

Weird...it flashed fine for me with no wipe....
I did move on and never gave it a break in....but it did work

I usually don't do it that extensively at all. I was writing a process for myself in case I wanted to really clean it out So this gave me a good excuse to test it. I was having some weirdness which prompted me to write the instructions for myself.
I haven't tried shutting it down after the install. I can certainly try that for you, if you like.

So its something to do with power management. That's weird. Is there something we did to our phones before that is causing the issue now?

Doubtful. Nothing I can think of, off-hand. I have to wait until later this afternoon/evening to reflash it and try powering off vs. rebooting from recovery. If you have the chance, please feel free and let us know what happens.

Trying to set write permissions on /system ends in bootloop

hi,
i did a big mistake. I wanted to install some vpn apps, which requires write permission on /system. I downloaded root explorer und tried to set all permissions for the system folder. But the app stills lacks the wanted permissions, so i started root explorer again and additionally checked the checkboxes under "special permissions". After doing that android crashed, the "systemui" process crashed and restarted and crashed ...
I rebootet the device, but i only see "google" and then comes a reboot and the device boots into recovery (TWRP 2.6.3.4). I already tried the "fix permissions" under advanced, but it didn't helped.
Is there any way to fix whatever i did wrong and not lose any data?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I did all the rooting stuff with the "Nexus Root Toolkit" program and followed strictly guides, except this time
Do i have to flash the rom with ADB? which file(s) should i flash system.img only? Or i have to flash more files?

So you are just rooted on the stock setup? Then you should be able to flash a stock odexed rom that matches your current set up (4.4.1 or 4.4.2) and you should wipe, but just the caches. You'll likely need to adb push rom.zip /sdcard when in recovery. You probably could adb sideload as well, but not sure if that wipes anything else. Never had to mess with sideloading.
For future reference, once you are up and running, I think what you would need to change is the SELinux permissive state. There's an app do that. Then the most you would need is to hit the R/W button when you're in /system with Root Explorer. Or with the newer Root Explorer versions, once you try and make a change that needs R/W permissions, it'll stop and ask you if you want RE to switch it for you to complete the task.

Thanks for your help. Yes, i am complety stock besides root and franco kernel. I already downloaded factory image (4.4.2). Should i flash the zip, which contains all the system.img, userdata.img etc. (i think it was 5 files) or just specific ones? It would be n1 if my data dont get lost.

Just flash the system.img in fastboot.

Most devs recommend wiping /system first.
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash system system.img
I would also erase cache too.
fastboot erase cache
That will clear the cache, not the dalvik, but think that should be enough to get going.

...and once it is fixed, never change system permissions again.... Same a Linux, never change permissions at /root

thanks at all for the help. But now i cant get any cell service. I looked under settings/about the phone/status and saw that my "IMEI" is "unkown". Could this be the problem? I read about restoring imei, should i try this and it this the cause for me not getting any service?

Using fastboot, flash the cache image from the factory image, fastboot flash cache cache.img

^ That should do the trick. If not, well, let's not go there yet. The cache should fix it. If that does, do yourself a favor and back up your EFS folder and save it somewhere safe. Either use TWRP or flash the EFS backup tool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514095
