It's amazing we were supposed to so called have our gingerbread like 2 months ago, has anyone heard anything? Because I am trying hard not to have to root my Infuse, and I don't really have a way to root it either but it is so aggravating being on 2.2 still especially with such a great device.

AT&T never said an exact date officially, unless you go by what some customer service rep said on twitter. They only said it would be this year.

Just root it and flash serendipity or infused, or dlev, or any other gingerbread rom.
It's very simple.

+1 All you need to root is a comp, usb cable and your phone, rooting is quite literally one click (superoneclick)...unless you use HDMI religiously, the roms here are awesome gingerbread goodness even if unofficial.

dude, get the drivers from the samsung site, get heimdall 1.1, get visual c++ redistrobutable package and get the comunity kernel.
extract the kernel .zip and find the zimage
install the drivers
open heimdall
put the zimage in the kernel slot
put the phone in download mode and connect to usb
hit the flash button in heimdall
pretty easy

To make things easier on yourself, you should really find a comp, google "Superoneclick Infuse" and it should pop up step by step install instructions. (download link included)
Still, with the root/flash options, I too would like the official release from AT&T...the wait is getting too long.
Question -I assume I'll need to reload apps if I flash a ROM, correct?
I'll just leave this here...

Yeah, it's because the NS ran REAL AOSP. Which has the colored bars that you're talking about which does mean that you're sync'd.
But, the G2x runs LG's stupid wannabe AOSP. The bars aren't colored because it's their own custom skin. It's sync'd though, you just can't tell because LG made it that way.
I just got the G2x few days ago, couldn't stand their custom ROM. So I rooted it and flashed CM7 the second I had the chance.
I would suggest you do the same as well.

1. Install Clockworkmod via One Click NVFlash tool. Do not use ROM Manager.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Now you have two choices.
Boot into Clockworkmod Recovery (power + volume down) ...
1. Install my root zip if you want to stay on stock rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
2. Choose an already rooted rom from dev section and flash it. Make sure you wipe everything before flashing an alternate rom or a bootloop may likely result.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1117
I've hard bricked a couple of phones (not a G2X) in the past and based on what I know this phone is very hard to brick. The only way to do I think is to issue errant commands in NVFlasher, but that is why we have the One Click Recovery flasher to isolate us from that possibility.
^^ damn that guys boss! Do his instructions to a T and you'll be all set.

Ok, Im sorry if you've seen a million threads on this type of question.
I've done as much googling as I can and have just decided to ask this.
Has anyone tried to install a gingerbread that is said to be made for another Samsung phone on their Sidekick 4g? If so, any luck with that?
I have a 2.3.5 GB ROM downloaded, and I found an Odin for this SD4g. The only reason I havent done it is cause Im not risking with someone Else's phone.
Any insight, or even a yes or no would be helpful. Thank you.

Dang. Maybe I can see about some more research on this. If only it was my phone or id experiment since I got the stock firmware downloaded and ready for mishaps.

Nope , it won't work and there's no 2.3.5 for the SK4G so it'll brick your phone it's just a fake but you could always try as we have the Reserrectar incase your phone brick's but that's just a option which would need work so i would say no , we would need a GB kernel which nobody has yet .
So my girl just told me her skyrocket wont turn on and a battery pull. I dont know
anything about the skyrocket but having the GS2 for Tmo i feel like its pretty much the same device to work with. I have not looked at it yet. But my question is, is there any odin file that will give me root access and custom recovery at once? If i can get her phone to go into downloading mode i want to just be able to odin it and bam.
any suggestions?

As always, make sure the battery is inserted correctly. You can attempt a factory reset using the stock recovery (you would use the home softkey instead of the power button on the stock recovery) and see if that fixes it. If not, call att or take it to a store.
PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO COMPLETELY FREEZE YOUR PHONE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU USE THESE FILES AND YOU MISS YOUR NEXT MEETING.
I was playing around and after reading and searching through some threads, finally got somewhere with something I've wanted since my iPhone days - Screen rotation animations.
Attached are 2 files you can unzip, then copy and paste into /system/lib/ using root explorer.
This will make your screen animate when it auto rotates.
BEWARE. I have had limited success with Home Launchers that can rotate. The phone completely locks up and you have to restore from a backup.. if anyone can help figure this out i'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm looking for a few brave testers to let me know if it works with the ROM of their choice. I have not tested it on stock yet, it may work perfectly. Who knows.
Hmm....what kind of animations are they? Can't imagine other than just the stock flop when u rotate ur phone.

That's what this is...these files are taken directly from the at&t note, and on my phone running nexusMod 4, the screen rotates just like the note does.
hmmm....mine does not..still more like a flash...but opening my web browser seems smooth...rotations no different...pasted in /system/lib..then fixed permissions..?

I'm on NexusM0D 4 as well, but it soft bricked my phone. I tried using Root Explorer as well as an ADB push and neither worked. Had to push the original files back to phone via ADB since phone boot looped at the Samsung logo
I had the brilliant idea of replacing the files when the phone was still running...
