Hi All,
I installed Skype on my Sensation 4G (Android Rev HD ROM). Everything work great except the dialer. I cannot get Skype to integrate with the phone dialer. When I dial a number, the phone does not give me the option to choose the cell line or Skype. It automatically use the cell line. I did the same on my Motorola Triumph (Froyo) and it does give me the options to choose.
I go into "Settings-->Apps" and select the "Dialer" app but the "Clear Defaults" option is disabled. The "Phone" app also has the "Clear defaults" option disabled.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I really hate the Skype dialer and would like to use the stock dialer.
Thanks.
Anyone?
If Skype works properly on your phone, please let me know also.
Thanks.
You have to use the Skype Dialer to call people in your skype contacts. There's no way around it.

I am not using Skype contacts at all.
I only use phone's contacts or I dial the number directly into phone dialer. I want to be able to choose Skype or cell line when I call a number (just like Google voice app and other voip apps out there).

If you're using a verizon tab I know there can be problems if you don't have the txt messaging plan.
Log into google voice from a laptop or pc and add a phone to your account from the strutting menu; use your tabs phone number. When the confirmation/verificarion window comes up... Just close it.
Go back to your tab and install the app... It should skip thw sending txt message part this time.
Done.

I had no problem installing GV to my T-Mo US tab.
You still can't receive cellular phone calls, of course. But you can set up GV to ring any other phone. There is no dialer on the T-Mo US tab, but you can call back from your GV inbox: Press the menu key and "call" on the tab, will ring on whatever number you set up in GV including Gizmo5/VoIP if you have that.
There seems to be a way to make calls on the Verizon tab without skype. Can we get a thread going on how exactly to configure and do this??
As far as I'm aware, there is no known way of doing this.
The issue is that even if you could stick a working dialler on the Verizon Tab, you probably won't be able to get Verizon to attach the ESN of the Tab to a plan that includes voice.
I could be wrong, but this subject crops up and time and time again and this appears to be the case.
Regards,
Dave
I was chatting with a guy yesterday that said he is running google voice and sipdroid with a dialer apk and was working, I just have no way to figure out how he did the config.
Line 2
Try Line 2 App its working great for me on my Tab
Tried it but they said I sounded terrible on the tab mic. Do you need to use blue tooth on this app??
Just read the email line2 costs $10 a month.

Sorry, I assumed that since you mentioned you didn't want to use Skype, you didn't want a VOIP solution, and were after "native" calling over the Verizon network.
If you want to use SipDroid, you need to have a VOIP account with someone first.
Regards,
Dave
Not completely true in order to accomplish this do the following.
1. Setup a googlevoice account get a gv phone number
2. Install sipdroid.
3. Launch sipdroid
4. At the bottom of the app you will see a button to create a new account linked to gv. Click it.
5. Fill in the information including your gv account.
Let it activate now yoh can use the sipdroid app to make calls i use a stereo headset with mic to make clear calls. But you can tweak settings in sipdroid to improve audio on speaker.
Also i use dialer one inorder to make calls using my phonebook. I just set it as tphe default dialer.
You can also configure sipdroid to work on wifi, cell network or both. Keep in mind voice rings up alot of data usage. I will create a more complete tutorial when i get some time.

I can confirm this works.
I'm in the process of doing this but sipdroid wont let me sign in? Went to the site to register made a password, but no go need a little help.

ok please forgive me a little new to this. Which one do you use sipdriod or GV?
Sent from my Arikara Galaxy Tab using Tapatalk
Create the account in app then login to pbxes site. This creates a pbxes account with your username but under that account creates a (username)-200 extention which is the sipdroid linked to gv. Which can be configured by hand but is much more difficult.
*I forgot to mention make sure once you setup your account through sipdroid, you must login and fill out your personal information or else after a pre-determined time pbxes will delet your account.

You use sipdroid google voice app only allows you to receive txt's and voicmail. Sipdroid makes the phone call or dialerone can be configured to route calls through sipdroid.

Dude!!! dont hold out on us, post the how too
I tried it few day ago. It said that GV acc only activate in US. I'm outside US
I use line2... easiest to setup and to me its very reliable compared to using two apps/services to talk with one another.
10bucks for unlimited text and voice with support if service happens to go down is fine by me.
As for audio issues its the mic that your using that would cause tunnel sound issues. Try a jawbone rogue. Its been reported to be a compatible bluetooth headset for our tabs.
Question though... doesn't sipdroid and gv depend on stock dialer to be present to use them? I thought that part on stock tab roms were locked?
So, I just integrated my Google Voice with my phone number (replaced my GV # with my phone number), in order to get voicemail. However, now all of my texts go through Google Voice, and I'd like them to go through the stock messaging app instead. How would I go about setting this up?
sorry this isnt an answer
but this should be posted in the General Section of the forums.

If you have Google voice you have to use their app so it will sync online I'm pretty sure

no guys, he wants to get his TEXT messages (not voicemail) through the stock app, not the Voice app.
From my experience, I dont think its possible.

The only way I've found of guaranteeing text messages in the native app or an alternate (like Handcent) on the phone Google Voice is to turn off the integration with Sprint. With the integration on, in order to get the text message in the native app (in addition to getting it in GV) seems to require two things: Not only does the phone have to be set to receive text messages (done by changing the mobile phone settings at Google Voice on the Web), but forwarding to that phone has to be turned on as well.
So: When I have my calls forwarded to an alternate phone (like when I'm sitting at home and want to receive calls on my land line), no text messages are received in the native app on my cell phone.
If you look at the Google Voice help forums, there have been countless posts about this. There have been suggestions for fixing; I haven't found one that works yet.
I really hope Google and/or Sprint get this worked out; it is to totally FUBARed now.

Here you go:
1. Go to voice.google.com on your computer.
2. Click your phone number in the top right of the screen
3. Click Edit under your Sprint Integrated Number
4. Check "Receive text messages on this phone (mobile phones only)"
5. Turn off sync in Google Voice and set it to send you emails when you get voicemails. This is to prevent double notification for every text. You can still open the app and listen to voicemails but I usually just decipher from the transcription.
I lived this way for a while, but I've switched to using google voice only.
Hope that helps.

In my experience, this works only if your Google number is forwarding to your mobile phone. If you've set it up to forward to another phone (say, a land line while you are at home), you won't get text messages on your mobile.

Riggs, once again you come up with a solution I hadn't considered XD. Do you know if the texts are still sent to GV with this solution? I'd hate to have to wade through a dozen text threads before getting to my voicemail if I want to listen to it.

Yes - if you are integrated all texts go through Google voice.
If you aren't happy with wading through all your texts - you can view by label. In the Google Voice app - hit Menu-Labels-Voicemail and it will show you only the voicemails.
As for this method not working with other lines enabled - not sure as I only have my mobile number fwd right now. and am using the google voice app.
hope that helps SirRipo.
Hey guys,
I don't know if any of you have encountered this problem, but it seems that it not possible to use the GV app on a Sprint phone without the Sprint integration. I removed the settings for the GV app on my NS4G and now when I try to set up GV again, I only get the one of two options 1) port my Sprint # to GV, or 2) use my GV # for outgoing calls. I want to do neither, and yet use GV for outgoing international calls. This is how it works on other providers, and I was able to do so earlier on Sprint as well, but now it seems like full integration is the only way to go on Sprint.
Is there a workaround?
Update google voice from the market and when you first open google voice, hit "skip" on the first page instead of "next". It will then assign you a different google voice # other than your integrated one

Thank you very much! I didn't realise there was an update in the market that fixes this. I guess upgrading to 2.3.5 must've killed whatever updates the app had. It works as expected now.

Glad to here it.
I'm having similar problems... At first, all of my calls went through google voice and I had no option to change it... I called Sprint, and the representative said she had to "undo it from her side"...
Now no matter what I do, when I call it will not use my google voice number at all... This worked fine on AT&T, and on my first Evo 3D (sprint and it overheated so I got it exchanged)
I just want to use it in a similar way to how the OP did... the widget even has the "Use for all calls" selected and greyed out...
Hi,
1. I use skype for international call and my phone for local and national calls. Is it possible to just click the contact or in dialer click the contact and then call will automatically go through skype or phone depending on the number.
Earlier when I was using CM10 on my old galaxy phone, I remember getting a pop-up option whether I want to handle this call by skype or phone, that was also acceptable. But on my new nexus 5 I don't see this option. when I click contact in dialer or contact it just tries phone.
2. In CM10, I had the option to toggle rotation through quick-setting. It was quite handy during sleeping. But I don't see this now.
KitKat revamped a lot of things like this. Simply installing Skype now doesn't undue the dialer's default settings forcing the system to present the pop-up question.
You might try installing a third party dialer, then install Skype and see if the pop-up shows.
