[Q] Need Help with NexusMod 4 UCLA3 2.3.6 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I cant ask this in the Development section under the rom to I am hoping to get some help here.
I recently flashed (this is my 4 or 5th Rom I've flashed so I'm still somewhat new to this) NexusMod 4 UCLA3 2.3.6 to my phone and it has been working great. Up until I started using my headphones (that came stock with the phone) to talk on the phone and answer calls. About 4 mins into a call the phone will say "SIM card ejected. Reboot Phone." if I reboot the phone with the headset plugged in I get the same error. Once I unplug the headset and reboot the phone can see the SIM card again and everything works fine. I am confused about the correlation between the headset and a SIM card.
Is there a setting or something I'm doing wrong to cause this? I know the simple solution is to just stop using the headset, but I love puzzles and cant figure out what would cause this.

That's a really weird problem, I've had no trouble with this rom on my rogers phone. Did you flash the radio first like it said?
Hardware behaviour is usually related to the kernel, so maybe try a different kernel that supports your phone and hope that might fix the problem?

Yep, I made sure to flash the modem first then NexusMod. I'll do some Kernal research (see what works best for others) and try a different one. Any recommendations??
I was coming from SkyICS, but I did the full wipe as instructed. so I'm not sure if this has a influence.

Not sure, I haven't used the stock headphones but I use iphone headphones with a mic for calls with nexusmod4 and it works fine. I use the kernel it came with after trying all the rest of the kernels and having my battery murdered with them I returned to romracer0.3. For me it delivers the best battery life

Sounds like very abnormal behaviour, if you did a full wipe then it's probably a hardware not software thing. Especially if it only happens '4 minutes into a call', maybe your headset itself is doing something funky.

Its not exactly 4 mins into the call, but it does not happen immediately, the times it "ejects the SIM Card" varies. I will try another headset before I start flashing other kernels.

[help] phone wont stop using the speaker for calls

well it started randomly the other day thinking it might be something I have done flashing a rom through odin I re flashed it it was KD1 and it still persisted so last night i tried flashing KC1 and it is still doing this, every time i make or receive a call it always uses the speaker phone the speaker phone button isn't even lighted up and when I try to toggle the speakerphone button it still does nothing any help would be much appreciated because its starting to get annoying.

by any chance are you using wifi-calling? If so, its because of the Kernel. People are reporting there are some issues with wifi calling, bluetooth dialing and some other items. If this is the case, then its probably best to check the threads that host the mods you used to answer questions like this. If not, I would start with flashing the original kernel back.

as a matter of fact yes i did load the kernal each time, i was on wifi calling but it also happened when on the network as well, so i guess ill try flashing back the og kernal and see what happens thank you and hopefully if that is the problem it gets fixed because i was getting awesome battery life with the bali kernal, again thanks.

[Q] Route Call Through Headphone Jack

I have tried searching for the solution to my problem with no luck.
I have a rooted Inspire 4G. With the stock radio and ROM, whenever I had my headphones or my 3.5mm audio cable plugged into my phone, I could use the headphones or my vehicle's speakers for phone calls (like bluetooth). I also could hear my notification sounds (text, email) through the headphones or speakers as well. Since I have rooted my phone and changed radios and ROMs, I no longer have this capability - the calls and notifications go through the crappy phone speakers. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or noticed the difference.
FYI - I have checked the call settings (Settings->Call) and nothing helps. I have read about HAC/TTY settings from the stock ROM/radio, but these options don't show up in the Rom I am using. I was wondering if maybe those settings made the difference and if there was a ROM or a mod that can access those settings.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
I've flashed many many roms and have never encountered that problem. By default, it should automatically switch to headphones once you plug in the jack.
I would suggest flashing a different rom ...such as the BB Mod rom or Absolution (both are aosp roms).
Or if you prefer the stock look with sense, try Cleardroid.
I believe any of these will solve your problems ...unless its maybe hardware related (bad jack) ?
If you decide to switch & try another rom...don't forget to wipe, so you can get started fresh.
Good Luck to you.

Yea I've flashed plenty as well and I've never run into this problem. Sounds are routed to whatever is plugged into 3.5 jack

Most likely is an issue with the ROMs because after I posted this, I flashed the Revolution HD 6.1.5 ROM (w/ the 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M radio) and the notification/call sound is heard through the 3.5mm jack as in the stock ROM/radio. Previously I was using the CoreDroid 8.1 and GB 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 ROMs with two different radios (12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 and 12.59.60.26P_26.11.04.21_M).
So I can't exactly pinpoint what the cause was because I (stupidly) changed two items - though I could reflash one or the other with the new radio and see if that made a difference - but I would bank on the ROMs being the problem since the both of you have not experienced this problem with the ROMs you use.
Thank you both for your input.
Radio would have no effect on this. Sometimes you just have a bad installation. This is why myself and others always make sure people know how to properly wipe their phones and then tell them to re install before validating a problem as an actual bug.

Gizmoe, I understand that there are a lot of people who don't research and don't follow directions when flashing ROMs, so I can understand the tone of your comment. I actually do a full wipe every time I flash a ROM, upgrade or not. And before I posted this, I tried reinstalling and researching the problem. I admit that I am new to all this, so it was more of a lack of knowledge about how ROMs and radios work than ignorance because I try searching out the answer before posting.
Anyhow, I did determine the cause of my problem, and it was not ROM-related. It's actually my setup in my truck. Because I don't have an aux jack, I have to use an FM transmitter. My previous transmitter died a couple of weeks back, and I got a new (presumably better) one. I can adjust it between stereo and mono, and I had it on mono because of interference/static issues.
As I found out yesterday, having it on mono plugged into my phone, it will only transmit music and navigation to my stereo. Phone calls and notification sounds don't get transmitted. However, when I switch it to stereo, all sounds get transmitted to my stereo.
So problem solved - non ROM issue. Somewhat user error issue.
I wasn't doggin on ya . Although I can see how it could be read that way. It was late and I was responding to many threads. It was just a general statement to anyone reading, cause people have been getting fussy when I ask to clarify their install process so I can get the whole picture of exactly what they are doing. People seem so sure its a bug when in fact it was something they did wrong. Though that is not the case here and I can tell you get it a lot better than most people.

Proper Radio/Modem flashing?

Hello, I am hoping someone can set me straight on the flashing of modems/radios and what is the proper way to do it.
Do they have to be flashed during the rom flash and then never touched until the next rom flash or can they just be flashed any old time?
The reason I ask is because I was booting into CWM and flashing each Modem/Radio one at a time and testing them out. I narrowed it down to one that had the best call quality but after flashing back to it the quality was worse then it was the first time I had flashed that one. Is it possible for a modem to install differently the second time? I am not running any formatting or clearing anything.
Why would the same modem/radio give different call quality on different installs?? Should I only be installing the modems/radios at the beginning when I first flash the rom?
Would like to sort this out as my outgoing call quality is pretty bad. Tested my SIM card in my old Galaxy S on CM9 and it sounded a million times better. My Galaxy S2 LTE is on SKY ICS 4.2F6.
You can flash a new radio/kernel on your phone any time after you've flashed the rom (as roms usually flash a radio/kernal when you flash the base) and it should not have any adverse effects on your phone (unless the kernel/radio is buggy/bad for your phone).
As far as formatting/clearing, I habitually clear my cache whenever I update anything on my phone and I haven't had any issues with deteriorating call quality and the like.
That is strange. My outgoing call quality is so bad compared to my Galaxy S on CM9.
I just flashed my phone to CM9 RC2 and will see how that goes. Now I just have to wait for a friend to give me a hand testing call quality.
It's really strange how I had different results with the same radio but different installs.

I'm actually running CM9 RC2 as well and am having major issues with the radio that gets flashed with it (UCLF6) as I live in a test LTE area. The reception goes to 0 to full every 2 seconds and I never get any phone calls or missed calls when people call me.
CM9 RC2 seems to have an issue with the LTE toggle, Network Mode and "2G only" features. As soon as u turn it on, it auto switches back to the default LTE being on.
I did a little bit of research and found that I would need to flash a "RAT UNLOCKED" radio. My concern is the same as the OP in that I'm a little confused as to the proper method and steps to doing this. Any help is greatly appreciated. I think both me and the OP will benefit.
I've attached a screenshot of my about phone page.
Thanks!
I recall seeing those "RAT Unlocked" radios listed on Mohan's Embryo thread.
It can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754473
I have no idea if those radios can be used with CM9 or not but I'm thinking of trying the embryo ROM and seeing how my call quality goes.
My problem is nowhere near as severe as yours. I get decent signal and can receive calls fine. My outgoing audio just sounds horrible and garbled. Who knows, maybe my issues also has something to do with LTE.

That as almost correct. ROMs usually contain a kernel and the /system. They almost never contain a radio. That being said, yes, you can flash a new radio at any time. There are quite a number of radios for the Skyrocket because each ICS leak pretty much had a new one. You should have no issues flashing either a Rogers or AT&T radio on a Skyrocket. From what I've read and seen, different areas of the country do better on different radios. I would personally start with the radio from either the AT&T or Rogers official release and then work backwards from there.

The radios should work the same regardless of the ROM.
okay that sounds promising. to flash a radio do you simply flash the zip over everything on CWM? do u need to clear or format anything? once you flash do you need to change any APN settings or anything? sorry if these questions seem novice but i usually just use the stock radio. fist time doin this
Also: Where can i find and download the official rogers modems?

HMM.. Any idea why I would be experiencing these problems then? Just seems strange that I installed the same radio twice and it had different results on each install. Do you think it could be a phone hardware issue?
Would it matter if my phone is a Rogers and I am running an AT&T radio? Maybe I should try the Rogers radios?
@Ompalompa287
From what I gather... Just flashing the zip in CWM is all you need to do. No settings to change or anything. I have heard of some people wiping cache as well.
I just simply need to know if there is anyway to disable 3g (force to edge) network? I have a at&t Skyrocket running cm9 Chopsticks.

So I just found out my phone has Noise Cancellation for the microphone. Maybe it's the noise cancellation mic that is causing the issues.
Does anyone know how I can disable the noise cancellation to test this theory?

Trust me, I have looked everywhere for an option to turn it off and I can't find one. I am on Sky ICS 4.2F6
Where do you go to turn yours on and off?
since cwm does not wipe the radio, flash new radio two times, even three times just to make sure it completely overwrites the old one you are replacing

Weird Issue Call Drop using custom ROMS In the Middle of Conversation

I have the strangest issue. I get disconnected from calls in the middle of conversation if I'm using any of these main custom ROMs.
Blaz3r
CyanogenMod 10
Blaze Tweaked ICS 2.2
But If I'm using a stock ICS ROM or "Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (Posted by tthaz777)" everything is very stable and no disconnects.
I have full bar with all the ROMs and get perfect data speed and everything else works fine. I'm using the same exact apps on the ROMs as I do on the stock, so I don't think it's related to a particular app. It seems as if TMobile scans the sessions at their network level and disconnects the call because my connection is not providing some information/call data they need. The disconnect can happen as fast as a few seconds or after a 10 minutes or so, just random.
Is anyone else experiencing this ?
I'm currently running below and everything is stable with no drop calls. Just can't figure out why this happens when install any other ROM. and Yes I always to do a full wipe before install.
Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (Posted by tthaz777) with merwin's scorched-kernel-t769-ics v1.0.29
Well the 4.0.4 thazz build should be pretty stable as its essentially stock. That being said my wife (who is INCREDIBLY picky on how her phone functions... I've yet to get her to try something not TW-based) has been using Tweaked since before it was even posted and uses her phone as a phone constantly (... lot's of out-of-state sisters that she's always yapping with) and has yet to report an issue. I am unclear why you would be having these issues with the particular specificity you are experiencing... especially if kernels are remaining consistent across TW-based builds anyway. Without me being able to recreate it on my end or a logcat taken during the premature disconnect on your end I'm at a loss. If nothing else, at least you found something that works for you, so I suppose it a could be worse.
Sorry for the troubles.
Not all stock apps or play store apps work with 4.1, I had the same problem when I let my battery app manage my data. It would wait to connect sometimes up to 20-30 secs later after waking to make a call. Check all your apps your using for compatibility, and when you wake your phone give it a sec before calling out. If your in a bad area the alternating of edge/3g/HSDPA+ doesn't help either. I stopped allowing my battery app data control and that solved 90% of my issues, sometimes it still does it but only when I'm in the boonies.

LOL I am using T-Mobile service with this device, so if that's the case for you I would expect a few drops from time to time
On a serious note, drops can happen with full bars for a variety of reasons. Tower is overloaded (signal shows strong but can't connect/gets dropped), person you have called drops you (calling someone in NY that has AT&T? ), bad/faulty sim card (free to get checked and replaced), etc. No cell phone/ROM is drop call immune, even stock (and yes even those people using Verizon). FWIW, I haven't dropped a single call in over a month using Thomas' PA and Tweaked. That's pretty good considering that's including the holidays and I didn't go home this year.
Thanks for the replies guys. What drives me crazy is that I have absolutely no dropped calls when using the stock ICS ROM, but as soon as I load any of the ICS ROMs mentioned the voice call gets disconnected periodically. Same Location, Same Apps, Same Calling Number, nothing changes except the ROM.
I'm fairly technical and good at troubleshooting but not an expert in reading the Android Logcat and don't know what to look for in the log. I have loaded the UVLH5 radio after flashing the the custom ROMs to see if that might be the cause but same thing.... I wondering if I need to try an older Radio...
Like I said all is running great with Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777) + merwin's scorched-kernel-t769-ics v1.0.29 OC to 1728 but not knowing what's causing the drops is just driving me crazy....
To test I just load the ROM and then call one of the free news numbers (ABC News etc 650-293-9114) and put the phone on speakerphone, and yes I have tried varies other numbers... JUST WEIRD
Try finding an app of the app store to make logging easier like logcat or something. Then run the app and make a call. If it doesnt disconnect, restart the log. When it does disconnect, end the log and copy+paste it here. That is the only real way to find out whats up.
So the problem started again this AM and it's been fine since I flashed Android ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777). I hear the hang up tone and calls would just disconnect in the middle of conversation with perfect signal strength. Nothing new was added to the phone, so only way to fix it was to reflash it again from a nan backup.
This is driving me crazy. Attached is a short logcat from right before the call dropped, could one of you experts check it out and tell me if you see anything strange going on....
Thanks

any chance you can put that on pastebin instead of a pdf? just post a link to it. It could be helpful to a dev as I see that some info is spread out to different pages and is cut off.
Also did you use an existing sim from a previous phone when getting this phone or did you get a brand new sim? I know various issues arise when using an old sim with this phone. My old sim had issues and wouldn't connect to wifi calling and it was only 10 months old.

When I initially had the issue I ordered a new sim hoping it would resolved it and that didn't help, so I flashed ICS 4.0.4 UVLH5 (by tthaz777) which is pretty much the stock with bloatware removed and that resolved the problem and not a single dropped call for a month and it just started again. It's so weird as if Mobile is looking for something in the connection/session and forces a disconnect.

Ordering a new sim doesn't mean getting a compatible sim. Have you taken the phone to a Tmo store and had someone check it out? They could've sent you another partially compatible sim for it. If I knew more about reading the logs I would love to help you out....

Has anyone encountered this voice mail bug?

Hey all,
Ugh, didn't mean to post yet!
I just updated from CM9 to 10.2 in the hopes it might fix this bug, but it didn't. I suspect then that it's not ANYTHING to do with a ROM per se but I'm perplexed as to what it is.
The behaviour is:
- I get a voice mail
- After listening to the voice mail, deleting it, and hanging up, the notification doesn't disappear
- Some time later, I get a repeat notification of the voice mail
- During this time, I can't receive any texts
- About a DAY later, the phone will realize that voice mail actually has been deleted
I've tried searching xda, and I've tried general googling, but I haven't pinned anything down. I've seen some references to what might be a similar bug, but not with these ROMs, and... honestly a couple of YEARS ago.

Well, I did do a factory reset.
Is resetting to the stock ROM actually guaranteed to, well, basically format /system?
(Oh, and I flashed this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451317 )
P.S. see here for someone's... probably unorthodox solution to the problem. Basically seems to be forcing # of voice mail notifications to 0. Which isnt really what I want, anyway.

Yeah if you odin back to stock...

Let the partitions convert..

And I remember upgrading from gingerbread to CM9 was a lot tougher than I expected (I think getting the drivers to work right) and I had to get a LOT of help from a member here on the forum. IIRC there were a lot more reboots required of the phone / my PC to get things to work.
All in all I probably shouldn't mess around with ROMs. Hardware problems make me angry and frustrated.

O..didn't know you had the T959w..
Well I have seen something similar
On the Samsung GS4G Blaze..
They had a call fowarding bug that was carrying over on Roms..
It was something in CM11 that they
Figured was being written on the
Sim Card..and it was even carrying over to any Rom you flashed..
Once you got it... it didn't matter
what Rom you installed
full wipe or not it stuck..
They have Offical CM11 and the
CM team fixed it..but I remember it took a couple weeks..
Have you tried getting another
Sim Card..couldn't hurt..
Have you tried Force closing the
Phone Apk.and clearing data..
Also found this..
Here's what just worked for me on my Tmobile Galaxy S III
1) Pull the battery
2) Wait a few minutes with the battery out (I waited 5 minutes)
3) Pull the SIM card
4) Replace battery and power up phone. Wait until phone is fully booted
5) Power down phone
6) Replace SIM card and power up
Annoying VoiceMail icon is now gone.
BTW.. I hate the voice mail notification...
I wish people would
Never leave me a voice mail..LOL..
Sent from my SM-G900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Oh huh, I missed your reply till now.
I think force closing the phone app and clearing caches works but ONLY temporarily and then the problem reoccurs (when the phone decides to check for more voice messages?)
Man if this was something being written on the sim card and not a ROM thing that'd be really annoying. But couldn't I "just" wipe the whole sim card? That's gotta be possible, right?
I'm trying the pull-battery-and-sim-card just to see what happens.
On the plus side I found some old posts of mine on the forum and realized that I only ever used this new computer for flashing stuff. So I just have to figure out which USB port worked last time... the usb drivers should still be installed and everything.
^ Just curious what modem are you using? Is it patched to work on MTD partitions layout? Is it the stock one from Wind the Canadian carrier?
Try using modem LB6 for 959w/v patched to work for mtd roms, hope this will fix the issue.

I believe I am using the LB6 - certainly, I'm not using the stock. (The only confusion is that I've got zip files on my PC for the LB6 and a KG4 modem.)
Whatever modem I have on my phone was working fine prior to some upgrade of CM9 (IIRC).
God!!!
So I got Heimdall working again, flashed to stock, reformatted my SD card, re-updated to CM10... and I'm getting the same problem again!
So either it's the CM 10 ROM or something with my phone company! GRRRR...
Maybe the next step is to go back to stock and then just try CM 9. Or even CM 7 or something... put a modem on the stock ROM and see if THAT still ****s up.
Aaaaand stock + LB6 modem gets the voice mail notifications.
