[Req.] News & Weather App/Widget and Dice - HTC Sensation

well, as the title imples, Im searching the "News and Weather" app & widget, which is included in many roms. I don't know, if this is a simple app which can be taken from a rom, which included this app and just install this on another rom which didn't include it, (like ES file explorer on most roms) but i think it has to be flashed over the recovery.
same goes for the HTC Dice app from the Sensation stock rom, which is removed on mostly any rom herearound. I tried "copying" the app to the inernal root, but except for an uninstall entry, the app is nowhere to be found.
Can somebody just put the 2 apps to a single zip-file - ready to be functional flashed over recovery - and upload them?
I'm not that talented with the structure on these files.
thanks in advance.

[APP] Newest MIUI Music .apk (4/11/11)

Hey here's a link to another thread with the newest MIUI Music .apk (4/11/11)
Here
Only issue I've noticed is when you go into the settings, if you try to scroll down to see "Filter files", it force closes the app. Hopefully someone can come up with a fix, but everything else seems to work so, enjoy! - zmag
(P.S. Show me some love and hit the THANKS button!)
Cool stuff I'm running it now with CM7 Final. I've always liked the MIUI music app.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
awesome, thanks. Now how do I remove the other one? CM7
Anyone know where there is an installable apk?
alaman68: you can remove the original cm7 music .apk from system/app with Root Explorer (or a similar app to access the system files...) or you can move it to the system folder or SD card in case you want it again.
nhutpham: as far as I know, you can NOT just click on the .apk and "Install" it. The link I posted has pretty specific directions to install it with Root Explorer. Just make sure you set the permissions like in the pic before you reboot, or it won't show up in the app drawer.
If you're still having trouble lemme know. - zmag
Pushed it to /system/app on my Sense ROM and it doesn't show up in the app drawer. Did a hot restart and a full reboot. No app icon and no widget.
I have tried the exact instructions twice, but the app didn't appear in the app drawer either time. I'm on a sense based rom using Launcher Pro, MIUI music hasn't been previously installed on the current rom I'm using.
The previous MIUI apk's have been installable, I might just wait till another one shows up.
hey, thanks again. I'm getting weird force close when I open the settings and try to scroll down to search file size. Does anyone have any idea how the change these parameters?
Wont work for me either... followed the instructions to a tee
flashable miui music...

Thx magnus your the man
Works great for me, other than the FC bug when you scroll down in settings. Installed with Root Explorer.
Thanks for this.

I am not sure, but I think I am just having bad luck. It crashes every time I go into the settings (as soon as I hit the button). I had to reboot just to get it out of notification bar.
Well, to the people getting force closes in the settings: I did state that in my original post lol... but yeah, not a huge deal imo. I think the coding for Filter Files (where if you try to display that section in the settings, it force closes) because its codependency relies on a MIUI-specific library. I am running this on CM7 Final, and everything works ok except that section of the settings.
And to the best of my knowledge, MIUI is built on Gingerbread (2.3) and won't work on Sense based roms (sorry Sense users)
And big ups to Magnus for the update.zip for people who couldn't get it to install.

[MOD] Stock mod, clutter cleanup.

So, I put together a couple of flashable zips for use on a stock phone. I've been using these for a little while now, and feel comfortable enough about them working to share.
Basically it just removes a bunch of stuff that comes pre-installed on your phone, and replaces your stock Sense launcher with either the stock Gingerbread launcher or Go Launcher EX.
I personally like GO the best out of all the launchers available, but until I had this phone I didn't have a piece of hardware capable of using GO to it's fullest. Now that I can, I love it.
Special thanks goes out to:
Undeadk9 for compiling the stock Gingerbread apps from Google.
computerkid23 for letting me use his update-binary file & market version.
*These mods are mostly just working examples. Someone will probably find them useful, I do, but they were primarily posted to support my info thread on edify scripting notes.
*We can see that these actions can be accomplished in a small enough file to be posted to the board as an attachment, yet this also means we rely on the user's stock software being intact.
*If someone has already removed an app, these zips will not replace them. Exception being launcher, calculator, music and if Mod02 then the market as well.
*If something has already been deleted, then it just gets ignored when the script gets to it. It won't throw an error if it tries to delete something that's not there.
On to the description of what's being done:
Here's what's removed:
-Themes, Live wallpapers
-Widgets:
Both tips widgets, all the widgets that don't work when you stop using the sense launcher.
Calculator, calendar, mail, photogrid, photo widget, setup widget and weather widget.
-Following apps:
AppSharing, Adobe Reader, Android Notes, Bejeweled, doubletwist, Flickr, Friendstream, Facebook, Picasa, Netflix, Slacker Radio, Swype, Twitter, Zinio.
-And:
Mail, Media Room, HTC Setup Wizard, Car Home, HTC Music + Enhancer, Google quick search box.
-Also:
T-Mobile TV, Name ID, App-Pack, Mobile Backup, T-Mobile Carbon Backup, Qik (video chat), Tmobile Navigator.
Click to collapse
What's replaced:
-Calculator...broken stock calculator replaced with the gingerbread calculator.
-Music - replaced with the stock gingerbread music app.
Click to collapse
The only difference between the two flashable zips:
In Mod 01:
-Sense launcher replaced with the stock Gingerbread launcher...keeps the stock market.
In Mod 02:
-Sense launcher replaced with GO Launcher EX, computerkid23 market replaces the stock version.
You still keep the T-Mobile "My account" app, the stock weather app, and a handful of other thngs:
-Calendar, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Flashlight, FM Radio, Gallery, GMail, Messages, Phone, polaris Office, Quick Lookup, Voice recorder and search, Weather, Wifi calling, wifi hotspot and youtube.
All stock TV connection software is still good and ready, as well as the stock browser.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Pre-requisits:
-Stock phone, no custom ROMs
-Clockworkmod 4.0.0.9
-Clockworkmod backup of your phone before flashing this zip
-Backup of any user data, such as phone numbers or notes
-Fully charged battery.
-Download and put in the main directory of your sdcard:
+ Blue6IX_Mod01 -or- Blue6IX_Mod02
To install:
-Un-plug the phone from any chargers or cables
-Reboot to recovery
-Select 'install zip from sdcard'
-Select 'choose zip from sdcard'
-Select 'Blue6IX_Mod01.zip' (( or Mod02 if thats what you downloaded ))
-Select 'Yes - Install Blue6IX_Mod01.zip'
-Press the hardware back button to get back to the main CWM menu
-Select 'reboot system now'
-IMPORTANT LAST STEP:
-Leave the phone alone for 5 minutes after it finishes booting up. Don't play with it or make it do anything, just let it sit and settle.
It's still building the data partition and re-writing your cache memory, if you play with it before this finishes you could get errors down the line. You won't see all this happening, so just be patient and wait a few minutes.
...and that's it. All done.
-ONE LAST NOTE:
* The clockworkmod backup of your data is important, as this installation file will simulate a factory reset during it's execution. This means any data that's on the phone will be wiped clean, so if you don't back it up before you start you will lose it.
Enjoy!
Reserved in case I need it.
Meantime, i'd like to say thank you to all the people working so hard to develop ROMs and software for our phone.
Thanks!
I ported the Froyo launcher from the LG G2x and Themed it gingerbread, its much faster then the one I compiled. Do you want a copy?

Sure, i'd love to play with it.
I appreciate you compiling those apps for me, i'm just not set up to do it right now and i'd have to halt all other progress to make it happen.
No biggie. The launcher is in my senseless ROM. Just extract it.

Help Please.
Since day one on stock - my gtalk app would only load on every other reboot - very weird.
Anyway I thought now Im root Id try to remove and re install. So used root explorer to delete the talk.apk from system/app.
Then I rebooted hoping I would see talk on market - but no. So I downloaded talk from within a gapps addon (someone posted in our forum to use talk from here gapps-gb-20110503-signed) which I did.
However when I try to install, I get 'Application not installed'
Any help please?
Thanks in advance
Also which of Undeads roms are the fastest - senseless or the other one? ?
Are you on a deodexed ROM or an odexed ROM?
Sent from my Supercharged MT4G Slide Running Undead's Senseless ROM using xda premium
Senseless is way way way faster.

Yo,
I'm still on tghe stock rom, yet to flash your rom just yet. But am going to.
How can I entirely delete gtalk and all of its remnants?
I guess I should just bite the bullet and udgrade, nice to know still how to completely remove my gtalk

The problem is you are on a odexed ROM. I.E the stock ROM, you are trying to flash a deodexed app i.e Google talk, that's not possible. You need to flash my stock ROM, pauls MCR, or Pauls Stock deodexed version. Other wise you are stuck.

I like to know things, just to know how they are done too - so I can appreciate the sentiment of wanting to know even if just for being curious.
I don't like having google talk on my phone either - but you will find that you need it to show certain apps in the google market.
You mentioned you had root explorer, which is awesome. If there was one tool you needed to pay for to really work with your phone on your phone, that is it.
Since I know you can follow along, let's look at what it takes to get rid of Gtalk.
First you have to know what the .apk file is, if it has an .odex file, and where the data directory is. Check my Reference to find that out.
Here is the entry for Google Talk:
Talk
Version: 1.3
983.17KB - /system/app/Talk.apk
/data/data/com.google.android.talk
Click to collapse
So we can see one .apk file, no .odex file, and one data directory.
1 - Kick up root explorer on your phone and go to /system/app and delete Talk.apk
2 - Still in root explorer, navigate to /data/data and find the folder named com.google.android.talk - delete this folder.
3 - Reboot phone into recovery mode. Once in clockworkmod:
4 - Clear cache from the main CWM menu, by selecting 'wipe cache partition' and then saying yes on the next page.
5 - Clear dalvik-cache. From the main CWM menu choose 'advanced' then 'wipe dalvik cache' then 'yes'. After it's done, hit back then 'reboot system now' from the main cwm menu.
That should be it and talk is now removed from your device.
To re-install Talk:
I attached a copy of the stock talk.apk - if you want to re-install it and were having trouble, try it this way:
1 - Download the attachment to this post, get it on your phone.
2 - Open root explorer, find Talk.apk and copy it. Paste it into /system/app
3 - Once Talk.apk is in /system/app, in root explorer long-press on it to get a menu of options. Choose permissions.
4 - Change the permissions to read:
-Owner - Checked boxes = Read + Write
-Group - Checked box = Read
-Others - Checked box = Read
-Bottom row of permissions all unchecked.
After hitting "ok" you should see that the Talk.apk permissions look like all the other files in /system/app, where it says rw-r--r-- under the file name.
5 - Exit root explorer, then reboot your phone into recovery mode.
6 - Clear cache from the main CWM menu, by selecting 'wipe cache partition' and then saying yes on the next page.
7 - Clear dalvik-cache. From the main CWM menu choose 'advanced' then 'wipe dalvik cache' then 'yes'. After it's done, hit back then 'reboot system now' from the main cwm menu.
That's it, you now have Talk re-installed on your phone.
You won't be able to find google talk on the market, even if you log in from a computer and aren't signed in to an account.
Let me know if that's what you needed, or if you have any other questions.
I want to use this but im having hell getting these 4.0.0.9 line commands to work. Ive tried everything line for line but no success. any suggestions?
p.s the recovery image has .img at the end and i copied it from sd card to data/local.

Basic Rom/Phone

Is there an android rom (for any phone) or phone that has virtually nothing on it besides the REALLY basic apps. Dialling,Texting, browser and maybe the market. I dont even want the calender or the alarm clock or any of the google services such as gmaps and gmail!
If there is no such phone/rom is there a way to do this?

No...lol. you can make one yourself though if you're unlocked. Just grab a rom zip and remove all the unwanted things.

Any feature phone. You don't need a USS 200 smartphone just for that.
Sent using Mini CM7 Pro by Paul
Just download any ROM, such as CM7, and remove everything that can be removed without breaking the ROM (For cm7, it would be http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones).
Just open the rom's zip file, delete them from System/app (And data/app, if it exists). Don't unzip it - either use the default windows zip viewer or 7zip/etc to delete.
You might be able to delete some other files as well in the other directories.
You can also install a root uninstaller such as Rom Toolbox or Titanium backup and uninstall them after installing the ROM.
But deleting them won't really improve battery life, or speed, so i don't see any reason not to keep them.

[Q] Allow any app to be deleted?

Is there a way to allow any installed app (bloatware mostly) to be delete through the remove app method? Some custom ROMS show installed apps as downloaded and thus can be removed (the Virtuous ROMS come to mind).
I'm after a clean official 2.47 ROM with bloat removed (Twitter, Teeter, Asphalt Racing, LiveTV...) but using Tit Backup list EVERYTHING and if I remove an app "officially" it takes the associated widget with it (if there is one).
Is there a SU command from terminal that can set permissions for ALL the installed apps, knowing that it's my butt if I delete a critical app? Perhaps permissions are not the right direction, if so, could someone point me in the right direction?

So, I'm not trying to be jerk just trying to get a better understanding of what you're asking...what you're saying is that you want to see if there is a way, outside of TiBu, to remove ANY app within a ROM?
If this is the case, yes. You can take a file explorer (I use root explorer) and navigate to /system > /apps. From there you can long press any apk you want to delete it. You can also open the ROM before you flash it and remove anything you want but I wouldn't recommend it.
exactly what i was looking for. i was trying to use tit backup and root explorer (i use es file explorer) was MUCH easier.
only drawback, this doesn't delete the widgets associated with the now removed apps. aren't the widgets part of the apps apk?

[Q] HTC Sense apps on Cyanogenmod ROM?

Unlocked the Bootloader - check
Rooted the phone - check
Installed Cyanogenmod 9.1 ROM - check
Before doing all that I backed up all the APK's and system files. Despite not liking the bloatware that HTC insist upon you having (yes, I'm looking at you Teeter, Dice, Mirror and Stocks to name but a few), I do actually like the a few including the HTC Weather app.
Within the backup, I had a file called com.htc.weather.[version number].apk
Will any of these HTC apk files install and work if I've have changed the ROM from HTC Sense? If not, is there any way to get them to work in Cyanogenmod?
Many thanks in advance
Rich
Basically mate, it will.
But it wont harm to try too.
I am using a ROM called elegancia but I desensed it. Those apps work fine.
