The creator of this application does not take any responsibility for the damage and injury what the user may cause or suffer in the future, present or past with or without this software.
Note: Of course this application is not charging your phone. You didn't think so, did you?! The only reason for this app is to collect the mentally challenged trolls - who never read the description this far - complaining about every app. Or you can fool your friends with this nice 'charging feature' if you like.
Do not let your device overheat! Be careful when you put your device under the direct sunlight!

Great app! Tested it out today and I was pleasantly surprised. Without that nice bump in juice my phone would have died. Five stars

come on...

Is this really possible?

This app does make me wonder. If one could create a completely clear solar panel and then make the glass on your screen out of said panel. Then your could have a screen that does actually charge you phone. Well there is my million dollar idea, haha. Seriously though. Nice app for some good lulz .

Actually there are real solar chargers. www.solarphonecharger.co.uk/
Can't believe the whinging about this on google play...people rating it one star and seriously asking how long it takes to charge etcetera.
Proof people don't read the description. But then there are people who also complain that the magic eight ball doesn't tell them their future lol.

I know right. Just goes to show that some people really should just stay with feature phones. I'm hate to say this but in some cases a persons smartphone is smarter then they are. Sad but true.

combine flashlight app and 3 mirrors - won't run out of "juice" - ever!
P.s. good one... still laughing

works great.

I like the comments on there by people saying it works great
What worries me is that clearly a phone can't charge by just having a picture of a solar panel yet so why do so many on google play think it should and then complain? Makes you wonder if in other situations they would end up winning a Darwin award.

I just read my own comment and realised that where I first put "yet why do people" I left yet there so looks like I meant "can't charge from a picture of a solar panel yet". I guess I should explain I really don't think it possible in the future to do so via a picture either lol.
How about an update to the app adding a new feature, auto recharge at night by overlaying an image of the sun onto the panel so it can charge even at night.
And a warning that all the negative comments are from people who work for big power companies trying to down vote it.
I'm not gullible myself, just have to point that out as I never fall for such things. I'm rich though. Well will be, when those magic beans I bought yesterday begin to grow

[App] EvoLight!

Yep, my first ever Android App is now live.
And what do you know - it's a flashlight app! Free version runs on a single LED, $2 nets you dual power modes (soon to be triple), and currently the ability to prevent the screen from shutting off.
In no way messes with the camera, so I find myself using the leds in high-power when taking video.
Anywho, feedback is welcome!

QR Code for the Paid version:
To be added in the (near) future:
a) An on/off Widget, of course.
b) Ability to work on Samsung Moment and HTC Magic (I prefer working on the hardware directly, hence why I only say this works with the Evo currently)
c) Third power mode
d) Strobes! No idea why, I just really want a strobe light on my Evo, heh.
Anyway, if any of you with other phones don't mind, test this out (Android 2.1+ only) and let me know if it works for you or not. I wouldn't mind finding out which other phones this works with. Eventually the code should have 4 different paths to activate Camera LEDs with, so I'd like to get it working on all phones!
If it doesn't work with your phone, just follow the on screen instructions to email me some information about your phone and what caused the failure.
Thanks!

There are already several flashlight apps for free. My bet is that sales will be tough to get. However, congratulations on your first app and good luck!
EVO 4G Android Development
????????????????????????????
I'm aware there's already a million and one Flashlight apps out there, but I figured anywhere is a place to start.
TBH, I seriously debated even posting here, but eh - thick skin and all that
Ignoring that it's YAFA, give me honest feedback especially if you actually manage to crash the app.
As for the post one up - it says device specific Android Development goes in the sub-areas. AFAIK, this IS Evo Specific, as I have no idea if it works on any other system or not.
Congradulations but this isn't your personal advertisement ground. There are many free flashlights already and many free that uses two.
Besides $2.00 is way too high for a simple function app.
I disapprove this topic, but nice job on your app.

wow, tough crowd! sounds cool to me if it lets the led stay on during video. wasn't aware of any other apps that do that, but i hadn't really researched it. i say advertise it up! and he's offering a free version as well, so this is kosher in my book.

Android is all about what? Flashlights? Making money? Flashlight app that cost money ?
Should be free and then have a pro version that does strobe where the leds flash to the beat of a song...

wrong forum, great job on coding your first app, but someone would have to be an idiot to buy this app. there are tons that are free
Love to see work being done but this forum is a more open type place people NEVER have much luck SELLING anything here other than used phones. IMO but you have to start someplace right? keep that thick skin you'll surely need it
Going to be a tough sell since you couldn't even put this in the right section of the forum.
I would suggest maybe just going FREE and putting up donate link for people to donate to further development.
nice work, is it on the market?

That's actually a really cool idea... I'll have to incorporate something like that!
For that matter, I've got control over the other leds on the phone (the green / amber / LCD / buttons) so maybe I can get a whole rave going on the phone
I'm not doing this for the sales - I had to put something up so that I could see how the Marketplace actually worked.
Surprisingly I've had a few sales already, and well, as my 1 comments states - "Works very well. Best FL on the market for the EVO. SQ" - so what's the harm in having more choices?
Yes, donating your time is all well in good in the open-source community, but when you only make $20k a year, you gotta do everything you can to make money, amirite?
Get a job and make this a hobby... amirite?

XDA: The time is right

Dear XDA: I think the time has come for you to step out of the shadows. I was at Barnes and Noble the other day and started looking for a magazine in their sizable magazine section. I was frustrated when i went to look for a magazine about android -anything- and found zero mags. However, i did happen to find 12 magazines covering apple. Soo i searched online and to my dismay have only found one magazine that covers android and only apps. Please save all of us who love android and need something to read on the toilet. I promise you i will be the first to subscribe. There is a desert wasteland when it comes to android magazines and you could be our oasis. Seems like now could be the opportune time.
(sorry for the dramatics...just thought it would be fun to post my thoughts about this...)
A magazine on Android ? hmmm...
It's a good idea. There's inough content out there right now to fill a year's worth of monthly editions. I'd subscribe (as long as it wasn't priced unreasonably), and it could open way more people to Android rooting/flashing/modding...

Sounds cool. But sounds dangerous for xda also. Just thinking that people who aren't supposed to root or mod their phones might pick up a magazine andtry, then fail, maybe even brick their phones, and then they try sue xda. All i'm trying to say is I think it's best for people who don't have the mindset for modding or whatnot, to not be introduced to it or even tempted.

A Warning on any article helps, they cannot get sued just because someone brick their phone, it wont be XDA fault.
Yeah but some narrow-minded twit is bound to try and go after xda at some point anyways, if it hasn't happened already. And there's always an opportunistic lawyer to accomodate (apologies to any members who happen to be lawyers lol). That's why there are disclaimers at the top of almost every thread. At least magazine revenue would help pay the legal defense fees.
This site has gotten so big since Android got hot, there's a constant influx of people who just bought their first smartphone and already know they want it rooted with CM7 and A2SD, but have no idea how to make it happen. If properly implemented, the mag could be a roadmap to get them started, and teach them some forum etiquitte (search, read, search, read, find correct forum to ask in) before they end up neck deep in technical terms they've never heard before, and a device that no longer boots. Beats following some half-ass youtube video with a megaupload link and then having a first post on xda titled 'help i bricked my...'
Edit: damn you, skepticalguy, you stole my spot ;-p

A warning/disclaimer won't be a magical 'no lawsuit' pass for anyone. If enough people face issues and ends up bricking their devices, the magazine will get sued. Whether the lawsuit succeeds or not is up in the air, but I doubt it's 100% guaranteed to fail and, more likely than not, retailers selling the magazine will then ask themselves if they should continue stocking it or not.
And, of course, we're just talking about lawsuits from regular folks. Imagine if Google (or any number of other corporations involved in profiting from Android) gets a hold of the news that there's a magazine out there advising the general population on hacking the OS. Somehow, I think this is going to be another one of those times when 'Do No Evil' no longer applies.
If XDA decides to gets its own magazine, it should do what others have done: Give advice to look up how to do it, but do not offer any direct advice. If the people reading the magazine decides to continue doing it, then they only have whatever advice source they looked up to blame if something screws up. Of course, this still doesn't give the 'No Lawsuits' pass, but it'll probably be a much stronger case for the magazine.
All of this could just be my pessimism speaking, so no one has to feel that what I said will be unalterable reality. Still, it seems like an awful lot of risk for an attempt to get into a market that is supposedly not doing so well. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being online-exclusive. I doubt Engadget, with its 5+ million visitors, is complaining.
True true. The xda portal is pretty much like engadget itself. And engadget gets some of its news from xda also. Guess the problem is, the amount of people that are interested in hacking and modding, which is a relatively small amount. And well, as said before, we don't want to be inviting people who aren't supposed to be hacking or modding, else we get more threads saying how they bricked their phones. So maybe it's best to just stay as it is now.
^ Yes, you are right about that, but perhaps it's not as matter of exposure.
Look at the iPhone. Jailbreaking is much more widespread than Android rooting, but last I heard, it was still only about 2-4% of the entire iPhone userbase that was doing it. As others mentioned, there are several iPhone/Apple magazines too.
I think hacking has always been the domain of a small number of folks who probably knows the method to find out how to do such things by themselves anyway. The overwhelming majority probably doesn't want to hack and additional exposure by magazines to them might increase the hacking community by a small amount, but probably not any very significantly.
Rooting/jailbreaking/custom ROMS/etc will probably continue to be the domain of folks like those who frequent XDA and it's unlikely that it'll ever be as popular as, say, downloading MP3s until it becomes a super easy/risk-free task that has an undeniable benefit to the common man.
But frankly, I don't see a need to make it as common as downloading MP3s anyway. XDA is freely available to anyone who wants to know and, for those who don't want to know, let them continue using a stock Samsung Nexus S.
Yes... xda is the way forward! It is improving alot!!!!!!!!!
Now we have xda tv, i cant wait to see whats next!

Motorola's cavalier attitude will have them banned in the U.S. Does anyone even care?

http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...microsoft-patent/&category=classic&postPage=1
Unlike apple, Microsoft gave them plenty of chances. Only Motorola can be blamed, not like they were releasing anything revolutionary anyway.
Meh...w/ that said, the Razr (thinnest) and Razr MAXX (longest battery life) aren't revolutionary to you? Minus the locked BL's I still say the Maxx is one of, if not the best phone out currently overall.
I don't find either advance to be a game changer, now if they made a small battery with that much charge or a thin phone that retained durability I'd understand.
What's Motorola?
I don't see that lasting long. Google going to lay some smack down on Microsoft with it's new patient portfolio.

It because of them, Android was put into mainstream attention. Anyone remember the old saying -"DROID Does"

Motorola Droid C
Motorola will most likely be singing a different tune once Google flexes the "we own you" muscle a little bit.
In this day and age, I just can't understand a company who doesn't embrace the open spirit of Android development. Developers can help a company so very much if that company will open it's eyes and stop thinking "only" with it's bottom line.
Obviously they'll work it out. Too many $$'s at risk.
These kind of things don't make sense to me. It is so stupid. So if Microsoft wins, then Motorolla will just change 1 small thing in their new phones and move on with life...

I actually had to watch that video to learn about it. Motorola DROID line up doesn't get much play on this side of the world. Still waiting for the fantastic Razr Maxx. By time it gets here, if it gets here, it won't seem so spectacular versus the One X and upcoming GS3. Which is a shame.
Back to topic, I'm sure something will be fleshed out, MS deals more than Apple and with that whole Motorola Xbox ban thing I'm sure MS has some motivation.
I do'nt care, by the way, who cares?
Moto is crazy about everything, I wonder why they are freaking out over some patent.

I want to find this guy....

I was reading a CNN article on how Google play is quickly catching up to the Apple App store.
In the comments is this douche bag..
What??? Yes there are more Android phones then iPhones, but it is a well known fact that iOS accounts for more web traffic than Android. Why is this? Because most Android users dont have a job and eat hot pockets in the mothers basement. Android users in general do not have credit cards and thus tend to look for free stuff. This is why, despite being the majority, a developer cannot make any money. This will not end unelss Google starts modeling their store after the Apple App store. Plus, if you remove all the crap like wallpaper, sound bites and pirated apps, you are probably left with under 200,000 apps.

I think people who buy the iPhone know exactly why they buy it. Quality build, unmatched ecosystem and excellent customer service are a few. Why buy the cheap knock off when you can get the real deal.
Lets face the truth, Android users are not the brightest in the bunch. Apple is sells hardware/software, Google sells advertisement space, this is how each makes their money. Android users have chosen to give up their personal data in exchange in order to have choice. The choice they are making is which phone do I want to use in order to give up my personal data.

What difference does it make, Samsung phones look like iPhones. How else do you expect Samsung to comepete. Build a phone that looks like an iPhone and the Droidtards will then choose to buy it because they now have the best knockoff of an iPhone available. Its really that simple.

" At least with Android, I have a choice in what's important to me, whether that be hardware types or software"
yea, on the hardware side, you have a choice of [email protected] and heap o' junk. Nice choices. On the software side, you have a choice between amature crapware and second rate copies.
Do you know why developers develop for iPhone first and Android second, if at all? Its because developers look at the Android ecosystem and see nothing but a mess. You cant even install ICS, you think you have a choice? Are you kidding me? You do not have a choice. I have the choice with an iPhone because I can choose to run the best mobile software I want at anytime, you can't run top of the line software and your hardware was probably once touted as an iPhone killer.

It has to be said, OP, your thread and post are rubbish lol, no offence but dayamn! Waste of time, but all the replies telling him to stop whining, to go away and complain elsewhere, damn it I've seen these kind of replies to criticism of Samsung phones on these threads too much!
These are not Samsung Praise forums, if a person comes here to bash and hate on these phones so be it, they're allowed to dislike them. Don't be telling them to go away and so on lol. Sheesh
Opinions are like a$$holes...

I am just waiting for the day that a smartphone has bluetooth connectivity for a pocket vagina attachment. I bet you think the phone looks good then lol
Guess you spent too much time thinking what to say and then you blew it

Sorry but your comment seems to be contradictory, on one hand your saying his post was rubbish, while on the other your saying actually it's ok and that it's ok .....[emoji12]
I know how you meant to write it though, however it comes across a little wrong....
Every phone has its faults and not everyone will like that's a given. However it's best to be a bit more elaborate & explain your likes & dislikes.
For me i personally dislike the fingerprint reader placement & also that Samsung didn't do enough to separate the S8+ from the Standard S8 (they should have imo had Duel Camera's & 6gb Ram on the plus), but for whatever reason it wasn't to be.
I'm still very much happy with my decision to purchase though .....[emoji3]

I think the phone is nice, not worth the mad price though! Agreed that the finger print sensor placement is just poor. Camera only slightly better low light pics, I just feel... Meh.
I want that display on my mate 9. Then that would be a perfect phone. Can't live without 10 hours SOT anymore

There is alot Meh but for me personally i never have high expectations. I base my purchases on what i like about said device & is there enough to warrant my purchase.
So for me i sold my S7 Edge to buy the 3T (which i very much like). The S8 & Plus were announced (Missed alot about the S7 Edge) so my purchase was to get the things i missed (Camera, Wireless Charging, Water Resistance, Screen & Build) back, however this time there are gains in the Nice change of design, facial recognition, iris scanner, Camera does have a different Sony Sensor, faster more efficient processor.....
For my case it was worth purchasing, if however you have the S7 Edge then for the high price tag, unless you must have the latest device then you are perhaps better off waiting for the Note 8.

Aesthetics are always going to be subjective.
I think we are reaching a ceiling with mobile phones. They tend to be slowing down in terms of dynamics and capabilities rather than groundbreaking. Having written that the S8 does advance the screen real estate to a new level. I do ponder if the S8 is enough to warrant such a price tag when the S7 is still a highly formidable mobile?
I have to confess even a die hard tech geek like me questions the evolution of the S7 to the S8 but how far can one go with a mobile phone? For the first time in decades I am hesitant and rather unexcited about the 'latest and greatest' must have.......Having written that I will end up with one. Hopeless case...
