ahhh ^^ i cant deal with tasker ... how can i select wlan on when i am home ?
cell id ? ahhh ^^
with llama i can make it say something when it does something ... does it work with tasker too `?
dont find the option
Hello guys! I read this thread because I'm looking for a solution to a kind of similar problem.
I find it inconvenient that Wifi must always be set either ON of OFF, when Wifi is ON, it is constantly using the connection and reduces battery life enormously! When Wifi is OFF, it does never sync, and you have to enable your Wifi yourself everytime you want to check for your email. It makes me feel like I'm 20 years back, where you had to dial-in for checking your e-mail once a day.
Is it possible to work out a solution with the 2 app mentioned before (llama, tasker)?

You may find the Google Group and/or the Wiki helpful.
I can provide you with some examples, but that has to wait till tomorrow.
If you don't want to wait - there are hundreds of profiles and tutorials around the www and i'm sure you'll find a few here on xda
€: Noticed the german flag: Try this site
i can wait ... if you have also some nice new ideas or scripts

Syncing with screen off is not a good idea!
It will make sure your phone cannot get into deep sleep mode, and thus consumes ALOT of power!

That depends highly on your sync frequency and what you might or might not additionally control via Tasker.
then tall me how to do it
i want the normal schedule what i set up in every account ... i wish that everything about sync is normal ... the only thing that should not happen is - dont sync when screen is on .
i tried that ... i even got the synker plugin
but i disabled sync when screen is on and enabled it when screen is off ...
and it syncs everytime screen is off ... thats not what i want ...
understand me ??
Code:
Profile 1:
- Context: Display off
- Task: set Variable to 1, turn AutoSync, BT, WiFi and Data off
Profile 2:
- Context: Display on
- Task: set above Variable to 2, turn AutoSync, BT, WiFi and Data on
Profile 3:
- Context: above Variable matches 1 and a (for example) 1h timer
- Task: WiFi, Data and AutoSync on, set a waittimer to sth. like 2min. then turn everything off
Well, thats a minimalistic version of what i do and very basic.
Maybe you can combine it via an exit-Task into only one profile, but i like to be flexible via Variables.
Possible extensions:
- WiFi will only get turned on, when you parsed a known SSID into a variable (i.e.: don't turn wifi on, if you won't get a connection)
- "Disply off" Profile (and Task) runs only on battery (i.e.: Display and connections stay on in Power plugged/Dock mode)
- Include CPU frequency & governor control
- Reduced CPU frequency when Display off only if you don't play media (music)
- Control your WiFi connection via location/cell towers und turn it off if you not near them
- mobile data off if wifi is connected
- ...

I use Tasker for automating a lot of redundant tasks on my phone. I figured I would post a couple I'm using with hope that others will share with me some stuff they use it for.
action: Docked.
Tasks done when docked: Bluetooth on, wifi off, gps on, auto brightness set off [if time < 1800, Display Brightness set to 255 if time < 1800, pandora set on.
exit tasks: Bluetooth off, auto brightness on if TIME < 1800, pandora set off, gps off.
Action open Application Maps/Nav or any gps app.
Tasks done: GPS on
exit tasks done: GPS off.
action: phone face down
Tasks done: airplane mode on if time < 2200, all sounds off except for alarm
exit tasks: airplane mode off, all sounds revert to previous settings.
these 3 i use, if you have any others let me know. If you need help with the program let me know too.
here is where you can grab tasker.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
Sounds something that I would definitly use. I beleive its a paid app, but still worth it. I'll look into it. Does it have settings for wifi e.g.- 1 touch WIFI on, because i'm using the stock wifi on/of toggle but I then have to go into wifi settings and actually see my phone connecting to my network in order for i to work and turn on.... ??????
Yeah there are settings for connecting to wifi. Mine does it automatically when I get home based on the gps. Works most of the time, had to turn it on manually a couple times because the gps wasn't on.

How do you set up an OR for the app launch context? I'm trying to get it to turn on GPS when I open Maps, Foursquare, Yelp, or Places, but it doesn't let me multi-select apps and if I add a context, Application isn't there.
Make it separate tasks.
make 1 for each app.
Foursquare - turn on gps. Turn off gps when exit.
Ect.
also, I guess there is a wiki with a bunch of samples I guess. I'm out at a remote beach on northern oahu right now, but if someone doesn't post it before me I'll post the link when I get home.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. It'd just be nice if you could have conditionals in the context. IF Yelp OR Foursquare OR Maps OR Places then ...
Post over there and make a feature request, they should put that in I agree .
Just bought Tasker and so far I like it. Can't seem to figure out how to do the following task though.
I need to set to static IP when on a certain wifi connection. I already have the IP set and the only thing that will need to be done is to toggle the static IP checkbox in the advanced setting of wifi. I know how to specify the wifi network but how can I make it toggle that checkbox/setting?
Thanks for any info.
i made a simple widget to toggle the screen brightness to two preset brightens for inside and direct sunlight.
i could not find an app that let me choose the brightness, they either made it full dark/bright.
i can't work out however to toggle a different widget icon to indicate on/off...
i've tried set icon but with no luck
its not really needed but would be good to have/know for future apps
also, can anyone explain how the HTTP (get info from net) works?
i want to try a few things but not really sure how it works
This app is the best app on the market... hands down. #Win

You should use "wifi near" as a condition instead of "gps". That way it just toggles you wifi on and off periodically and if it is near... it will connect.
Gps is so demanding on the battery... and not always accurate... as you see

I also have a profile that texts my gf a random message at a random time that is between 7:30 am and 7:40 am (so she don't think it's automated lol) every morning. I got that idea from LexusBrian
Again.. great app!
Here was I have got going on with tasker.
Car dock: gps on, bluetooth on, display always on, notification volume off. On exit they all do the opposite.
When home: wifi on. Exit wifi goes off.
At work: phone goes to vibrate for everything.
10pm to 545am: phone goes quiet.
I second it a best app ever. Wifi, gps, and bluetooth are never on when I don't need em. Come on you can't beat that. What a battery saver.

Tasker is an incredibly handy utility.
Here's the profiles I use:
GPSonForLocationApps - I think this one has already been covered by this thread.
WifiOnAtHome - I use the wifi near option... although I think it's causing issues with my 3G signal... it will occasionally turn on wifi to check if I'm at home which seems to turn off 3G. Still playing with this one.
LowVolumeDuringWorkHours - sets various volumes appropriately so I can still hear stuff but doesn't annoy folks working near by. I turn this on/off based on day of week and time of day. Upon exiting this profile it returns my volumes back to normal.
NoficationsOffAtNight - I turn off notifications at night and if my phone is plugged into AC.
SilentForMeetings - if I have a calendar entry where I'm marked as busy it turns my phone to silent mode.
Openwatch?
Hello
I am new to Tasker, and I'm starting to understand exactly how much you can do. Uses open watch a lot and have done a lot of settings to make my clock better. But I wonder if I can get messages from one app to my watch. The app is an ice hockey results service. And each time it becomes a goal, I get it as income message in the status bar. But can I get the message in the clock at the same time? Right now I just get a message in the watch which I've written, but would like it says in the status bar so you do not I pick up the phone to look at the result. Is there perhaps a few codes to enter, instead of my message is? Hope you understand me?
I have mine set to enable WiFi when I connect to a certain cell tower. Keeps the drain on my batter to nothing more than it was already at, and GPS is only enabled for about 5 minutes to and from the house. I'm sure the drain for that combined 10 minutes is much less than periodically checking the GPS or if a network is near.
I am turning off gps when I get to my home cell tower and turning on my wifi at the same time.
For my multimedia apps like pandora, I have my screen stay on when plugged to a power source.

I have been using Tasker the last couple of days and I am really started to like this app. I havent even scratched the surface of what this app is capable of but it would be nice to have a thread for all Tasker users to share the Profiles.
I currently have mine setup to shut off 3G when the screen is off and turn it back on when the screen is on. Its been working great. I got home today from work and was at 70% battery life after 10 hrs of light usage throughout the day.
So far I have
GPS Auto on and off when I open maps
Display off / data off
Display on / data on
Home area wifi auto enable
Battery full alert
NightSMSResponder
Missed call Auto reply
Call recorder
Screen off / Data off: do you still receive emails and mms?
Best app out!
I've been using this app for awhile as well... I've been able to fully automate the processes that I had to remember to do to conserve battery.
This is my setup.
1.At Girlfriend's house - GPS off, auto brightness on, notifications silenced and from 3am - 7am text messages are set to auto reply and calls sent to voicemail.
2.Headphones plugged - Load music app, adjust media volume, and turn screen off after 30 seconds.
3.Any power connected (USB or AC) - Key lock off
4.If USB plugged and file explore (Astro, ES) loaded, mount SD
5.Maps,Navigation loaded - GPS on, Auto Brightness on, System vol to max
Just some basic profiles.
I'm still in the trial period, do I have to purchase to be able to import the download-able profiles from the step through section of the site?

Anyone use this app to automate? Been using it for a few weeks and love it.
Here are some of the profiles I've created/been using.
- Headset = when inserted, pop up a menu of apps. When removed, kill said apps and mute media volume
- Calender = silent the phone when I am in a meeting (entry = busy)
- Work = Turn down all volume/notifications while i'm at work (730-400, M-F)
- Home = When home, turn on WiFi. When i leave, turn it off
- Power = when charging, pop up a menu for which power mode: night, charge, USB, or Car. Perform tasks depending on which mode is used
- Movies = when at the movie theater, silent completely. Turn volume on when I leave
- Night = Turn on Airplane mode when sleeping, on every 15 minutes to sync in data
Anyone else have any good profiles to share??
I turn on GPS when "My Tracks" is launched...
I created a Task to turn GPS on and then launch Navigation. Then I added a shortcut to that Task w/ the Navigation to icon...
I turn my phone to vibrate when I'm near work networks...
Silence my phone and turn off data-sync from midnight-7.
I've been trying to make a profile that will shut off my WiFi when I go out of range and disconnect, but I can't get it to work properly.
I really don't know why Android will let you keep you WiFi on when you're not connected for an extended period of time.
Tasker
I use a few.
1] Kill 3G, launch wifi when at work or home. Autoconnect.
2] Set security flag when NOT at work or at home
3] If security flag is OFF, PIN is OFF on device boot.
4] On receipt of SMS, play a longish sound so I can find it.
5] If I can't find it, different SMS turns off WiFi, turns on GPS and 3G, waits for GPS, and responds to me with location via SMS. Also engages high volume setting.
6] If I don't like where it is, yet another SMS will initiate a lock sequence. This silences all alerts, sets the security flag on, and times out the screen. Then, wakes the device up with a message with my email and a nice request to return, sends me the GPS location again via SMS, and begins to popup a lock screen via Tasker every six seconds. The lock screen can be bypassed, but on reboot the device will require a PIN to access as the security flag will be set.
Now, you might say- why not use a task killer or uninstall it? I thought about that. If i'm not at home or work (within 50meters) all programs that are capable of installing, uninstalling, modding, or killing are PIN locked. NICE!

I like the security flag and locking. Great idea. I'm going to have to try and set that one up.
Currently I,
1. Turn on WiFi at home and off when I leave.
2. Turn off email checking at 11pm and back on at 5am
3. Turn on GPS when Maps is opened.
4. Launch Sirius when headset is plugged in (the only time I use the "headset" is an aux cable into my car stereo.

you can either use the 'wifi near' profile, or use gps as a location and turn on/off wifi based on that location.
i prefer the gps. the time between checks can be set in tasker as well. I really don't notice the battery kill and keep wifi/gps on while i'm at home...off at work
hope it helps!

About how long do you have between GPS checks, so that I'll have a rough estimate of what doesn't kill the battery too fast?

pretty sure i have it to whatever tasker defaults as. Maybe a minute or two longer. GPS doesn't touch the battery unless its working (you see the satellite). Give it a shot and see how it works. If you don't like it, it can be changed easily

if you use wifi near, it'll turn on wifi to check every few minutes.
gps is set to poll 2 minutes when the screen is on, 10 minutes when screen is off. I find no problems with it on the battery
I know, but I'm not near WiFi often enough to bother connecting. I just want it so that the occasional time I do connect that when I forget to turn it off when I leave the area it doesn't stay on for the next hour till I notice.

The lock screen can be bypassed, but on reboot the device will require a PIN to access as the security flag will be set.

I'm not sure how to set this up. Could you please explain how you did this?
Thanks!
I have a bunch... we need to figure out how to share the code for these...
Quiet night: Silent, wifi off, sets a variable that i am in sleepmode
Sleep mode emergency calls - if sleepmode is no, turns it off and lets it ring only on calls from certain numbers
Meeting silent: silent mode when I am in meetings
Face down silent: ****s it up if i turn it face down
Low battery: notifies me, turnjs off wifi and gps, drops brightness, switches to vibrate
Home: turn off gps, turn on wifi
No Keyguard: turns off keyguard and leaves on display when plugged in
Work: wifi off (security at work), drops volume on everything,
@mianthropic777 - something to note on your low battery profile. Vibrate actually uses much more energy than audible ringers. Might want to switch that one up

I know, but I'm not near WiFi often enough to bother connecting. I just want it so that the occasional time I do connect that when I forget to turn it off when I leave the area it doesn't stay on for the next hour till I notice.

I made a profile to turn wifi off one minute after the phone sleeps. It's an event so the wifi will not turn itself back on. I also made a widget to disable it incase I'm using the wifi to download a file.
how do you make a profile that silences and responds to sms's at movies?
I mean how does it know when you are at a theater?
Can you make a widget to turn this mode on with a touch of the widget?
Thanks
You could easily make a widget to do this for you, or you could set a gps location for your theater to do it automatically.
I've got a few that haven't been mentioned:
- When connected to my home wifi network, keyguard pattern is disabled
- Whenever I answer an incoming call, in-call volume automatically set to 1 (I have some loud obnoxious friends)
- When phone placed face down, switches to vibrate mode and gives me a single short vibrate to confirm. Also screen timeout switched to 7 seconds (shortest possible). Exit task (when phone flipped back up) reverts to whatever ring mode it was in, and gives 2 short vibrates to confirm
- When I launch Pandora, media volume automatically set to 1

It says keyguard pattern is not available for my phone, why?
(yes I have an Incredible)
I have it set to turn in airplane mode while im in school (high school 8-3) and check for messages every thirty minutes.
Saves the hell out of my battery. I leave around 6:30 in the morning and get home around 7:30 at night...usually have about 40% when I get home.

Cell Standby Battery Drain:
Hey Guys!!
Maybe some of you know it. The cell standby drains a lot of battery. I live in a mounterial arrea and it's really annoying. So I searched a bit on Google and build a small Tasker "Script" to reduce the draining. I'm using it now for 6 weeks and it's working good! It reduced my cell standby from 35% to 2%.
So what's the magic?
First tasker will turn Airplane Mode (only cell!) on if you don't have signal. Then it'll wait for 5 minutes and check it again. Yes this sounds really simple but it was hard to build it.
I hope I can help you with sharing my experiences!
Screen off=data/wifi off it no traffic (with Night Mode):
Hey Guys, I have been looking for a solution for this problem for quite a while myself. Now I found a good solution to collect the current traffic on all interfaces. I will share a detailed explanation on how to set it up.
First off, what will happen?
If you want tasker to turn Wifi or Mobile Data off when you the turn Screen off normally you have the problem that it will interrupt all downloads. This Profile will try to read the traffic. If the traffic is below 15 kb it will turn wifi or mobile data off. If not it’ll wait until it is below 15kb. Later If you turn your screen on again tasker will activate mobile data and wifi. It'll wifi doesn't connect to a network (in the next 30 seconds) it will turn wifi off.
How does Tasker work? How can I optimize these profiles/tasks for my needs?
First what does tasker do? This is for the people who don't understand tasker. Tasker has 4 tabs (Profiles, Tasks, Scenes and Vars) but I won't talk about Scenes cz I didn't uses it yet. I also won't talk about Vars (variables) cz they are self explaining.
What are Profiles?
Basically profiles contain conditions (for example if display on/off or wifi on/off) and run a task if the condition is true. Example: If display off turn wifi off.
What are Tasks?
A task is something like a list of actions which the phone should do. (for example turn data on/off or run a specific app)
How do the profiles from this thread?
The profile AutoSync (Screen off) runs every 10 minutes while the screen is off. It turns data/wifi on checks for new messages and turns it off. It has a variable called "%SLEEP". It will only run if "%SLEEP" doesn't match "1".
The profiles Display (Data) and Display (Wifi) turns data/wifi on when the user turns the screen on. When the screen is off again it will check traffic for 30 seconds. If the traffic is below 15kb/s it will turn data/wifi off. If not it will wait 2 minutes and check the traffic again for 30 seconds until the traffic is below 15kb/s.
The profile Night (week), Night (weekend) turn the phone into airplane mode and sets the variable "%SLEEP" to "1".
The profile Wifi connected just changes the variable "%CONNECTION to "1" or removes the "1". This is needed for the Display (Wifi) profile.
On my todolist:
You say..
Changelog v1.3:
Added Greenify's hibernate now to both screen off tasks
Changelog v1.2:
Added AutoSync (every 10 minutes if screen is off)
I'm using this profiles on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus and it works very well!!
Feel free to ask me if you have problems! I'll try my best to help you.
These profiles include the greenify hibernate action from its plugin. If you have troubles with it you have to remove and readd it (on both Screen off tasks) cz my plugin is german. (plugin → hibernate)
You need Secure Settings for tasker or it won't work!! I used Secure Settings because Secure Settings can off only the cell radio. Tasker supports it, too. But not for Jelly Bean and I'm using 4.2.2 :/
How to import *.prj.xml files:
Unzip the *.prj.xml file in your Tasker/projects directory and then import it in Tasker by long-clicking the home icon or any of the other tabs. If you don't have the home tab, swipe down from the top in Tasker to show the tabs. (beginner mode must be disabled!)
Thanks for this 8D!
Useful for a beginner like me ^^!
In task screen off, why do you wait for 30 sec's in Action number 5? Also how important is the Stop Task Action? What happens if I don't include it? I mean anyways, the following 'else' won't be executed if the Mobile data turned off by the 'if'.
Just what I looked for, but How can I install your *.zip file to tasker? I just cant install it, any hint? where should I put the zip file?

unzip it to /sdcard/Tasker/auto-import. Then import it using tasker.

You have to wait 30 seconds or how long you want to wait cz in action number 2 tasker gets a traffic number from the system. After 30 seconds it gets another. Tasker subtracts the values to get the actual traffic in bytes. So Tasker can look if the traffic is below 15 kb/s. Yes you're right. It's my fault. You don't need the Stop Task Action. It's from the old Script. I forgot to remove it. Thanks for your hint!
Hi parthipanramesh,
what I metioned inside the other Thread seems to be working A okay...
What are the modifications/fixes in this version? I can't tell from looking at it here.

Hi RLicher,
Some people had the issue with the maths calculation of CHECKB_WIFI - CHECKA_WIFI. So tasker will set the variables to 0 if they aren't set. (cz wifi is off or something else). And I deleted/merged some Actions.
You can use the version from the other thread if you don't have problems
I'm using this on SGS3 but notice two issue... While listening to Pandora when a song ends the data or wifi will get disabled so the next song cant start. Second wifi or data will not be reenable when the screen is enabled.
For the record i just imported the files within the zip.

First you have to increase the 30 seconds from the two Screen off tasks [A5] because Tasker checks the traffic for 30 seconds. If Pandora loads a song for example in 40 seconds Tasker will disable data and wifi after it has been loaded. So data and wifi are turned off when Pandora tries to play the next song. Increase the value and you should be good.
And for your next issue:
Delete the imported profile and create a new profile:
Name: Whatever
Context: State → Display On
Task: Create a task which enables data and wifi
Exit Task: Screen off

Sorry I didn't read your previous post.
Unzip the *.tsk.xml files to sdcard/Tasker/tasks and the *.prf.xml to sdcard/Tasker/profiles. Then open tasker tap on tasks and hold it until a menu appears. Tap on import and you should see the files. Do this for the profile aswell.
First tasks and then profiles!! Or you'll get an error that tasker couldn't find the the task for the profile.
Thanks just pinched your files and made it turn on when the screen comes on.
My current profiles means that Wifi turns off when i leave the office and stays off until I turn it on again.
If im somewhere with no wifi will my wifi be turned on when my screen is turned on?
Would i need to create another profile which says if wifi is on and not connected to a network after X minutes
then please disable?
If so is that an easy one to create?
Thanks
Andy

First yes it will enable wifi.
I solved it with 2 profiles. One changes a variable if wifi is connected or not and the other one is turns wifi on, waits 30 seconds, checks the variable. If my phone is not connected to a wifi it will turn it off.
Do you want my profiles?

Yes it will turn generally data off. 2g or 3g it doesn't matter.

It have nothing to do with my profiles and tasks. They only enable connections, check traffic and disable the conncections. Maybe another profile isn't working correctly.
And next time you can edit your post. You don't need to make 3 posts.
Thanks again parthipanramesh, will import these tonight and try

I am new to tasker and i have been fiddling with it.
How would I add auto sync turns on every 15 minutes when screen is off and auto sync turns on when screen is on to this "script"?
HELLO, so first I want you to know that I have the S6 so I don't have xposed, im limited with tasker and greenify only.
So, what my profiles do is :
- Always, but always, only one of wifi or mobile data are on.
- Hibernating apps when screen is off, but also if I am using it a lot, it will hibernate too.
- Adjusting the brightness.
- Controlling auto-sync as I want.
Im writing this guide from my phone so I am sorry if something is wrong or just bot beautiful, so lets start
Auto sync controlling
Option 1 - for email readers, needs sync a lot.
Sync on always when charging.
Option 2 - for email readers, needs sync a lot.
Sync on every 2 hours for 10 minutes and then off, you can control the time.
Option 3 - for users who don't need sync a lot(me).
Sync on only when battery level is 100% and phone is charging. ( using if condition.)
Mobile data and wifi switching So here.. I used to have a profile that turns on wifi when I am home, a little more safisticated profile I created..
Actually it's more then one profile, I split it up.
Note:lollipop users, if you have problem with mobile data, use secure settings plugin, if you have problems with the plugin too like me, use toggle data 5.0 xda version- posted in the forum.
So profile number one - when screen turns off - turns off wifi, turns on mobile data. always when screen is off, use mobile data.
Profile number two - the more complicated one - when screen turns on - turn wifi on, wait for one minute, and then (turns off wifi if not connected and keeps on mobile data) ( turns off mobile data if connected and keeps wifi on).
Hibernating apps regularly So here, what I have done is - when screen turns off hibernating all greenified apps.
I am not always turning off the screen and sometimes I use it a lot of time so every 10 minutes if screen is on hibernate all greenified apps, also I don't know maybe some apps are turning on because some wakelocks etc when screen is off (not sure) so every one hour if screen is off, hibernate all greenified apps.
adjusting brightness level When screen turns on - set brightness level to 70 and auto brightness on. Can use the phone regularly with this settings.
So that's it, if you have some more I will be glad to add and if you want some help, just ask.
