I've owned this case for awhile and for about the first time actually took the case off my phone very gently. I found many scratches on the chrome strip at the top of my phone. I'm shocked because I've never ever dropped my phone in the 3-4 months I've had it, it just simply got scratched up sitting in the case. I'm probably gonna contact Otterbox. Just wanted to let people know about this.
Dust and small particles.

Yeah, you are supposed to take it off every now and then and clean it.
Yeah my wife has one on her iphone and I was shocked at how much crap gets inside that case

Same problem. Unfortunately the Otterbox warranty does not cover damages to your product. I would imagine it's because they know this happens. Personally, I will never purchase an otterbox product for the rest of my life.
To each their own, that's the only case i'll put on my phones. As long as they make one for it.
I will always properly protect my investment, especially when its one of the most expensive things I own, and it fits in my pocket. I will forego looks and sleek styling to have my device properly protected, amd resellable if need be
i will say this for otterbox, they stand behind their product, even with no warranty. i work in cellular and I've seen no fewer than 10 otterbox cases with cracks from either short falls or whatever, and the company has only ever asked for a picture of the damage and has paid for a new case to be sent out, free. they have never asked for the damaged case back, and in a few instances not even a picture. you can't buy customer service like that, or the sense of security that comes with it.
that having been said, i use a Seidio case, because otterboxes are ugly as ****e. still...

This is why I stopped using my defender. I got really sick of taking it apart every few days to get all the junk out of it. I got ghost armor and haven't looked back.
I have the Otterbox Impact and I took it off the other day to clean everything and noticed that it had rubbed/scratched a spot in the batter cover where the "Otterbox" words are molded inside.
Just about s*** a brick.
Might as well not even use a case if it is going to get scratched anyway. I need Ghost Armour!
I'm not sure how your devices are being damaged with OB cases. I've used defenders on all of my iphones and my skyrocket. They have all been left in almost perfect brand new condition. My iphone 3g looks brand new! But if it doesn't work for you I suppose you should look elsewhere and see the results. Who knows, maybe you will come running back to OB with a scratched up and broken phone. Hahaha
Same thing happened to my captivate. I buy Trident cases now. Soft silicone inside and hard protection on the outside. Much better and cheaper too.

I just want to put this out there. I purchased the black Speck Candyshell today along with my G2X and will be returning it tomorrow. This case will literally scratch if you wipe your fingers on it. Don't even think about putting it down on a hard surface. This case would be perfect if it didn't look like complete garbage after having it on the phone for 5 minutes. Stay away from the Speck Candyshell in dark colors.
Could you please take some pictures of the phone in the case? From a few angles?
Wondering how the fit looks.
im also wondering about the scratches, if you could post pics of those as well!
i was planning on buying the black or grey candyshell case tomorrow.
The fitment is great! No lie there. Unfortunately I'm at work until 330. When I get home I'll throw the case on and take some close up macro shots.

I'm using the black\grey speck case with no issue and I quite like it, the other options in store were a joke...the body glove and circle ribbed one. I could suggest a case for your case in case it gets any other life threatening scratches. Sad part is I'm serious...its a case, they arent supposed to look like sculptures untouched, lol.
Ridiculous. I never stated that the case was never supposed to get scratched. However, I will not accept paying $38 for a case that looks like complete garbage after only 5 minutes of use.

Just exactly how long is your 5 minutes in my time? My case has been all over stepped on by pups, outside on furniture chilled by this crappy WA weather and in and out of my pockets back and forth. My case looks good...then again I will always be happier to have any character nicks and scrapes on my candyshell...so thats not even relevant. And ridiculous is hardly the word. Stating a phone hard case is garbage after 5 minutes, now thats ridiculous.
Look at you. Why are you trying to argue a moot point? Lol. I'll have pictures to support my statement.

I purchased this along with my G2x. T-Mo had a promotion going to buy 3 accessories or more and get 30% off each of them so I took the bait. I do have to say that the speck case does scratch VERY easily as mine has not been dropped at all and only placed on my work desk and it does have substantial scratches on it already. The other thing that irks me too is that my headphone jack doesn't fit into my phone with the case on so I had to rip the rubber out of the headset hole and it doesn't look to good but at least I can plug my headphones in with the case still on. I don't care that the case is scratched up as that is the point of a case--to take the damage instead of the phone. Just my 2 cents.

Here are a couple photo showing fitment as well as the scratches sustained to the case after being on it for 5 minutes. I'm sorry if this issue seems trivial to some but I'm not down for having my phone in a case that looks like **** after a couple minutes. Imagine what it'd look like after about 2 weeks. The hairline scratches seen were a result of a wipe down with a micro fiber towel. There are two scuff marks that were a result of placing the phone on the table.

A case is meant to get scratches.. you must of had keys in the same pocket with the phone of something.
Unfortunate there's no case for a case out there either.
hmm
well i purchased this at work today regardless of the thread starters issues. I work in a tmo store, and got it for pretty cheap so i figured theres no harm in trying it out. better than buying something i cant see first online. g2x should be on my doorstep in the morning, then i'll throw the case on and post up some more info.

Not the case. (Pun not intended) All the swirl scratches are from wiping it with a micro fiber towel. The two scuffs were from placing it on my desk at work. Regardless of the scratches, the molding around the volume rocker was cracked. When I went to the T-Mo store to return the case, I checked other cases and found that the case I had was the only one with the cracked rocker. All issues withstanding, this case is not worth $38 IMO.
Got the Speck case and love it. Makes the phone feel solid. And not as slippery! Only issue I had was I had to modify the opening around the headphone jack. Actually cut the piece separating the headphone and the HDMI port. Now I need to find something to smooth out the rough edges.
Speck cases do scratch easy. My sister has one for her iPhone in purple, and after 2 weeks of use it looks like it got ran over by a car, fell down a mountainside, and got chewed by wolves. Quite disappointing, considering how attractive (imo) they look. I still buying one for my Atrix. Lets see how it works being black... the most blemish showing color in the world
Wish they would make something white.

I don't know why you would shop at the retail TMO store when you can get **** for way cheaper at 3rd party discount shops for the exact same thing...
I would not want this case at $5. It looks like ****. Reason I'll pay retail is because I don't have an issue paying the money and can not stand waiting for **** in the mail. Clearly, $34 isn't the issue when buying a $500 phone.

Now the waiting the game lol
I'm waiting for this, too, and I hope it doesn't have fitment issues like they've had with every other phone I've gotten this case for. I don't mind the electrical tape fix but it shouldn't be necessary for a case that you spend that much money on.
I love their cases, I've used them on a few different phones, the latest being the Vibrant. The only downside I've had is the cost. I'll probably wait for one of their sales after it comes out before I think of buying it though.
VERY nice! Reminds me of the Marware case I had for my iPhone (which still.. to this day... was my favorite case ever). I was JUST on the Marware site with my fingers crossed hoping for a G2X variant.. but no avail. THIS however... looks very nice. Thanks for sharing!
I like the case also. but I'm afraid the top clip might scratch the phone if i dont take out the phone carefully/slowly...
I'm going to wait for the Trident Aegis case. According to the email I got from their customer service ([email protected]), it will be out 1st week of June.
If it's anything like the surface case for the nexus one you shouldn't have any problems with scratches.

egon27 is right. One of my cases for my N1 was a Seidio Surface case and I loved it. It was snug, but was easily put on and removed. It had a soft, felt like material that covered the inside back and stayed together once you clicked it. The only issue I had was that it had a tendency to catch my screen protector w/the wrap around edges whenever I would slide it on.
However, I'm waiting for the Trident case as well...

Does anyone have a coupon code for seidio? Just saw the case is available for order now.
Being the case junkie that I am, I've experienced quite a few cases for my Inspire.
This is just to try to help anyone in deciding what case to get or not get. Also, if anyone is interested I'm selling some of these that I've used only for a day or so, I'll explain later in this post. These are ranked from my least favorite to most favorite. So, lets begin.
6. Speck Candyshell- Although many people are big fans of Speck, I just felt like they produced an clunky, ugly case for the phone. It basically added a second bezel to the Inspire and I really didn't like the look or feel. Although the protection is decent, it is way over priced and the aesthetics just don't do it for me. I actually returned this to the AT&T store the same day I bought it.
5. Seidio Surface II- Probably the most annoying case I've owned. Once I put it on, it took me over two hours to learn the 'trick' to getting it off. Although I like the soft touch finish and the protection is good for a sleek case, the hassle of taking it off and the ugly back camera cutout annoy me.
4. Otterbox Defender- Alas, the Defender. While I can say I felt like my phone was virtually indestructible with this case on, it was just a bit too much. I couldn't fit the phone in my jeans pocket and it would get covered with lint due to the rubber outer case. The screen protector scratched easily and felt strange as well. The protection though is a major selling point and probably a good investment for someone without an insurance policy. Protection good, making my phone a rubbery brick, not so good.
3. Otterbox Commuter- While it is much slimmer than the Defender, the Commuter offers decent protection with a few flaws. I really am not of fan of the plastic backing of the case, it's slippery and feels very fragile to me. Also, the port cover for the usb and headphone jack is annoying to maneuver in place and often times falls out. The case is decent protection and slim, but there are those couple things that bring it down.
2. Trident Aegis- It's protection + good looks + a decent price. The Aegis offers Defender-like protection in a variety of colors in a modern, attractive design. There is basically nothing wrong with this case besides the impossible-to-avoid-bulk and the semi-challenging installation.
1. My favorite case I've used to date: Case-Mate Tough. So far, this is perfection for me. It's sleek, it's protective, it has got a nice grip finish, it's everything without the trade-offs. You can bet that my phone rests in my Tough as I type this. It's the best of every world and it's even a value! I got mine for $16 shipped on eBay.
So, if you're in the market for a case and you stumble upon these, maybe you'll take my opinions into account, or maybe you wont. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for the reviews. I am using the seidio convert and like the defender, it is a bit much. I may have to try the case mate tough.
Again, thanks for the time to review these and the money spent lol.

Haha, I am also an accessory whore, I have about 20 cases for my iPod touch 4th gen(Not that I use it all) and Currently only own about 5 cases for my Inspire and about 20 micro usb cables...
I was looking into getting the otterbox defender, considering I have their case on every device I own besides my Inspire, but your review tempted me to not get it...
Thanks for doing the work for me
otter
only one i've tried was the otterbox commuter and I really like it... but you're right.. the usb cover can be annoying at times
thanks for the reviews though... i might try out the case mate tough soon
I have the s line case from eBay. It is very small which means it prolly isn't the greatest protection but it fits into the pocket perfectly and isn't super gelly and stretchy.
Best part is its 5 dollars and offers nice grippy sides.
Seidio Surface II it is useless when trying to use an screen protector. I have try both clear coat and skinomi and it pulls both from the edges. DO NOT BUY !! I will give a shot to one of the Otterbox.
+1 for the Case Mate Tough Case, have one on my Nexus One and my Inspire, haven't looked back

+1 for the Otterbox commuter. I couldn't agree more with your review on that. I'm still a huge fan of it though....even aside from the annoying rubber piece near the bottom of the device lol.
I have the HTC Inspire Casemate Tough case, and it is AWESOME! It's a bit of a ***** to get the battery out when you have those times, but other than that, I love the dual-layer design, and awesome grip that it provides. Definitely better than the Body Glove case I bought for my Captivate.
I have been using the Casemate tough since I got my phone in the middle of May. I must say that I do like the way it feels. I don't think it is too bulky. Feels just right. Only thing I do not like about the case is the bottom rubber piece on the front side of the phone. It is flimsy and moves!
I just got the Otterbox Commuter and I like how it looks, but the back is too slick for me as well. I like how the bottom piece of the rubber is stopped in place by the plastic hard shell.
To give an idea of what I mean to some, I place my phone in my left pants pocket. Top pointing down. When I go to grab my phone, I tend to pull it by the bottom piece of the case like I used to do with my iPhone. Granted I have been getting accustomed to not doing that with the inspire due to its bigger shape, it is still a little annoying that the little rubber piece on the casemate is like that.
Does anyone have a suggestion on a similiar case?

So if removal was not a factor, would the Seidio be higher in your ratings? Also, do either the Seidio or CM Tough hang up like a silicone cover when you remove them from your pocket?

I agree with the OP about the candyshell speck case. It's waaaay to bulky and almost doubles the size of the phone. At first I gungho over it but now I can't stand it lol. I wish phone manafactuers would make the body more tough because the look of this phone is soooo sexy

Cannot agree more! I too have been using this since I got the phone in mid-May and have been liking it so far. The other thing that I do not like is the inside rubbery protection tends to catch a lot of lint when put in the pockets. Other than it, the case is solid with a good look and feel.
i'm waiting on my commuter
i'll post some comments
Have any of you tried the Casemate Pop?
I have two Otterbox defenders and you are right about the lint problem, it drives me nuts but I have to admit that I don't mind the bulk. I came from a 5 year old WM smartphone that was a brick without a case, haha. So I don't mind a bulky phone.
The only reason I got the defender was that it has the plastic hinges for snapping it into adapters, so you can purchase mounts for it and put it in your car with a satisfying "click". That and I decided to opt out of insurance, since adding 6$ a month and a 150$ deductible seemed silly to me.
The phone is extremely slippery without any cover on it and the bottom half of the phone (where the antenna is) will crack or dent with the slightest impact because it is hollow.
The next thing I am going to build is a custom dock for the car, I just wish I didn't have to dismantle the entire dash to add an FM modulator to the antenna line . I have a bad habit of breaking plastic fasteners and rivets.
Thanks for the reviews, ill be avoiding the defender cases because of their size.

Just ordered a Defender, should be here in a day or so. Bulk doesn't bother me, I carried my last phone with a projector attached to it. I'm a mechanic and really want the best protection I can get. Know what you mean about those plastic clips.
For an FM modulator, I like the Motorola T505. It clips to your visor and you can use it to stream music and as a speakerphone. It just won't charge or hold your phone. Upload some pics when you get your dock finished though.
If the Sedio wasn't so difficult to remove it would be higher up, although it still scratches easily and allows a lot of dust to build up under the case. I've been soley using the tough since this post and my inspire has taken some nasty spills with no harm done at all. Also, I just took off my screen protector last week and have found using the phone without one is so much better. Anyone else agree?

Case mate barely there for me. I've always liked the minimal amount of casing and have been lucky enough so far to never need anything more. Anything bigger than this case seems too bulky for me. It's a quality case and has a nice matte feel to it.

Just recently bought a Body Glove Smooth Case for my Infuse from Walmart ($17.96 i believe is how much it came to)
Bought this case recently because I've been having butterfingers when it comes to my Infuse, a few nicks and scratches later I decided it was time.(shoulda been sooner) So I went for the cheap option of this case. It feels great, doesn't add too much more size to the phone, and it's a hard back so it can take a bit of a beating. It was easy to install, but I must say difficult to remove, I tried removing it exactly how instructions stated and all it did was damage the case. After a while I managed to pop it off. But all in all it's been a great case, and for sure worth the money, the color options is an added plus. Mine being a very stimulating blue color.
Out of 10 I'd give this case a 7.
Just my 2 cents on it.
Peace out with the Grease out,
Malicious, Much love.
Using this case for a good while now and yesterday I went to a party and stuff got crazy, long story short my phone was thrown a good 10-15 feet landed on concrete and bounced a little. This case saved my phone, hardly any damage done to the case, nothing cracked. This thing is solid. I recommend it.
A lot more resilient than its appearance might make you think. I've had it for almost a month and I'm extremely impressed.

Just bought one per your recommendation. Great case and defiantly provides protection feels solid without adding much to phone. (can't stand otterbox cases).
Infact it makes the phone easier to hold.
Edit: just wanted to say how it doesn't feel like a cheapo silicone case but actually feels like a quality product.

My case finally took a beating that took it out for good. After a while I noticed that this case became weak. Mainly from taking it off and putting it back on every time I had to pull the battery. But the other day it finally had it and cracked.

It sounds like you hate your phone more.
Why? The ballistic SG case is not quite as big as the HC case, but gives incredible protection. But hey, if you don't mind breaking and replacing your phones, go for it.
A friend of mine doesn't believe in cases of any kind and works construction. It will break eventually, and I'll be the first to say "I told you so".
Plus, a hardy case gives it that manly, rugged look. Sorry, I shouldn't assume you want that.
I don't know why really but ever since my early iPhone days I was really never a fun of otter box/ballistic cases. I bought on for my infuse but I only used it for maybe a week. Since then I purchased another body glove case and its serving me just fine

My philosophy is I bought the slimmest 4g smart phone and I intend to keep it that way
Besides, I think you will be surprised how much any sort of case can take, you don't need a full inch of plastic to take a hit, just enough to transfer the forces around the phone and not through the glass. I dropped my phone the other day, waist height, hit on the corner, scratched up the case a little, but phone didn't get touched
The body glove is a great protector and not extremely expensive. I'm a fan for sure.

i just wanted to know what are some good cases for this phone ive been searching for some but non of them catch my eye?
The otterbox case is the toughest one...but it's expensive this one
Black-TPU-S-Shape-Rubber-Premium-Skin-Case-Cover-for-Samsung-Infuse-4G-i997 on ebay is the one I have & I like it...doesn't add too much weight to the phone & is easy to put on & remove...the hard plastic ones that come in two pieces are a pain in the butt to take off once they're on
My favorite is the "Platinum series" case/holster described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1900174
The reason I like it is described in the thread....mostly convenience of the holster and the protection when the phone is in it.
Some responders said it was prone to breaking... it may be the case, but mine is still going strong after a year and it has survived a fair amount of unintentional abuse.
Depends what your looking for...
just cosmetic or actual protection.
For me, I work at a metal forging plant and need maximum protection.
I run the otter box and have for years even back when I had an iPhone.
I have dropped my phone from two stories (approx 20ft) and not a scratch on my phone. As well as dropped countless times from my shirt pocket where I keep it.
Also dropped in oil and quickly pulled it out and wiped it down... not a problem to this day.
My otter box case has seen better days but that's what its there for. To take the abuse I don't want my phone to take.
It is a bit bulky but when I take my phone out to change batteries, its nice to see it still looks as good as the day I got it.

Otterbox is the best for me. Not too much bulk for the commuter case anyway.
