[FUTURE APP] Wake Up! Radio/Alarm - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hey all,
I'm building what I hope will be the ultimate radio/alarm clock app for Android.
I'd love some feedback on what are favourite must-have features in current radio, alarm or desk-clock apps, or better yet, what are some features you'd love to see that no-one's implemented yet?
Any great ideas will of course get a free copy of the full app.
Cheers,
Radiofan.

I think the most obvious is a configurable snooze button. I'd personally like a large on screen button but I'm sure others would like to use the volume or power button to snooze. Not sure if that's possible but I'd love to see the option for on screen or hardware snooze.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA

If the on-screen button and volume button both did snooze would that work? Or would you want to be able to configure it to be only one or the other?
Radiofan.

Anything's possible.
I will likely be putting an alarm clock function into my FM app soon. (See sig.)
A generic app should be able to start any program or send any Intent. Different "snooze" functions (and Intents, or sequences of) could be selected with configurable buttons.
IE. Volume Up could snooze 10 minutes, Down 5, Power could make the radio louder after 15 minutes, etc.
The Intents could start a streaming station or "real FM'. But what if there was an error ? Need to detect silence or error and just beep, or beep after 5 minutes anyway ?
You really need to test stuff like this if people are going to depend on it. OTOH, it's just another excuse for the Boss. LOL.

Must have:
- Snooze (on screen large button, far away from dismiss button haha)
- Volume button snooze
- Select song for alarm
- selectable snooze time
- maybe be able to stack songs, if you like it to ring for maybe 10 min...
- choose how long its gonna ring before it will automatically turn off
- attractive an simple UI, no crazy blue and red mix color scheme haha.
- set up alarms for future dates
- set days for which the alarm will ring
Thats all i can think of, and then of course the other normal things, like have multiple alarms set at the same time.
Good luck, would be cool to be able to test it!

[Question] Countdown/stop watch timer

Is there any recommendation for a countdown timer for Android? I'm surprised that the native alarm clock doesn't have this function.
I use the simply-named "StopWatch" app by sportstracklive.com.
It should be the first thing that pops up when you search the marketplace for "stopwatch".
i use "timer" by The spinning head
I use supacount, I like it because it has the option for saving multiple countdown times and running them simultaneously. Too bad you can't assign different alarms for each of them though.
Stopwatch is good too, it shows the minutes left for the countdown in your statusbar. After the last update it also supports saving of multiple countdown times but you can't run them simultaneously. It also has the same flaw as supacount in that you can't assign different alarms to each countdown. And of course it has stopwatch functionality.
I think the main difference which makes me use supacount over stopwatch for my countdown needs is that the supacount alarm is shown over the lock screen, so you can dismiss it immediately if your phone was sleeping. Stopwatch would force you to unlock first before you can stop the alarm. And supacount also allows you to name your countdowns.

I like this one. Nice UI, does the job, and it is free. They have a paid one with more functions I was thinking about getting to help support the developer.

Kindle Fire must have functionality apps

For those who use CM7 or a different rom, here are a couple app's that will make using your Kindle Fire a bit more friendly.
These app's help give you back functionality you were missing because of lacking hardware buttons.
Zmooth
A app that gives you gestures to replace the missing Home, Back, Menu buttons. Works even in full-screen games/apps.
Volume Control
Places a small bar on one side of your screen (configurable) to adjust the volume. Can be set to disappear after a couple seconds. Also works in full-screen games/apps.
this 2 apps very useful for kf , awesome
Button Saviour
I like button savior over zmooth. But they are both good

Yes, also a very good app. Just comes down to preference.
Awesome. This makes things a whole lot easier on my fire. Many thanks.
Keep Moving Forward,
Dseeker
Display brightness - also by RubberBigPepper the guy who made the volume control app

Volume control is great even on stock Rom since the drop down pauses everything, with this you can adjust the volume while apps keep going

[Q] Desk clock?

is it me or has the deskclock option been removed? On my previous devices i have had the option to select this so that when it is on charge at night it also acts as as a bedside clock.
On the One s the only think i can see is under 'clock' it says world clock and there is a picture of a planet with different time zones but not actually a digital clock showing the time.
Am i missing something somewhere?
Basically i want a digital clock that can double as an alarm clock to have when the phone is on charge at night....would be great if it could also turn off the home and back button also as these seem to stay on at night when charging with the ones i have tried from the market.
thanks
According to my knowledge they HTC has removed the Desktop clock feature.
Very annoying, why can't they give you an option to switch from 'world clock' ( the planet showing) to a clock like on the older version, at least it would have a real use.

The lack of alarm clock is annoying. I've tried out some clock apps, and those work well enough except the bottom buttons stay lit. Haven't found a good solution yet.

Alarm Clock Plus works best for me. It should not be moved to sdcard, as it breaks like any other app using alarms and/or widgets.
Customizing it the first time may take some time but it can do almost everything so.

I know, what I meant was what the OP stated, the desktop clock was missing. I did try Alarm Clock Plus, it worked great except that the bottom buttons remain lit which was distracting.
Interestingly, having now gone a few nights without a bedside clock, I find I'm sleeping a bit better without knowing what time it is.
im using night clock donate at the moment and its a very clean and simple clock which i want however i too have the problem with the three buttons staying lit when its on
If anyone knows of one i want a simple digital clock with the ability to turn off the button lights and also if possible mute notifications when its activated (like email and twitter etc)
Lightning Bug is an app that I use for white noise that also has a fairly customizable clock that goes with it. It has an option to turn off device lights, although that does not seem to be working correctly on the One S (could be something the devs need to fix for Ice Cream Sandwich).

Unofficial directory of features/requests for the Verizion HTC M8

This is an unofficial directory for issues/features that we want to see fixed/added via ROMS or software updates. Simply post a request, and if it is appropriate and acceptable it will be added into the directory. This post serves as a place where DEVS can find an issue or feature and can... well... fix it! I plan for most of these to be at least partially exclusive to sense 6 and or the Verizon HTC m8. I will update the directory nightly
GUIDELINES*The issue must be something that more than one person can relate to.
*The issue cannot pertain to another app. I.E. if an app is crashing too much.
*K.I.S.S Keep it simple stupid.
*Look before you post! I will update the directory and see if it's there. This will save us both some time
*Lastly off-topic posts or typo requests won't bother me the slightest, but just know your boundaries
*Please refrain from things that are basic in custom ROMS . These include but are not limited to navigation bar tweaks, and system ui visual changes
If you see a user post an issue that you know a fix for, give him a hand
DIRECTORY
Solutions
Please remember general UI tweaks can easily be edited with many xposed modules or ROM baked controls
✓ Allow the wake gestures to be used when the device is laying down
Calibrate G sensor poorly intentionally.
✓ Remove unnecessary wifi notifications "wifi network available"
Option in WiFi settings and flashable zip.
✓ Native wifi tethering
Custom ROMS.
✓ Full control over notification bar icons. Nfc, boom sound, etc.
Gravity box, sense 6 toolbox, or viper control.
1/2 Separate lockscreen shortcuts and dock shortcuts
Lock screen shortcuts are based on the sense launcher dock. Using a different launcher allows control between the two.
✓ Custom status bar toggles
Now in stock ROM as well as most custom roms.
*In the quick toggles tiles, make the brightness toggle open a traditional slider
*Remove that friggin 4gLTE icon when wifi is on
*Custom actions for motion launch gestures
*Don't auto wake screen on call end
*Quick toggle/widget for toggling motion launch gestures
*Email widget for stock sense email app
*Charging images for navigation bar
*Modded launcher with customizations such as grid size
*Enable individual motion launch gestures
*More than 10 alarms
*Customization over dot case notifications (may take some adv coding skillz)
*App ops standardized
*Remove 10 incorrect password attempt data wipe.
*More options for auto device sleep/lock
*More sense features ported or modified for aosp use. (This one is a toughie)

This is getting annoying for me. The double tap to wake and the slide up to unlock is an amazing feature. But it's almost worthless if we can't use it when the phone is laying down. My phone is on my desk at work most of the day, and it would be great if I could just double tap to see what notification just came in.
I think it has to do with the g-sensor. When I first turned the phone on, the pop up menu said that the unlock gestures only work when the screen is being held in portrait mode. So I'm thinking that when it's laying down, the phone doesn't know exactly what orientation it should be in. I've found that even holding the phone upright just a touch allows the gestures to work fine.
Changing shortcuts of the gestures while the screen is off? For instance, swipe left while screen is off launches 'X' app...
Unlocked wireless tether. Get rid of the various wifi notifications. LED torch quick toggle.

When on a call, press power button to turn screen off, when call ends the screen turns back on by itself. Why? Idk but very annoying, only HTC phones do this!
If someone can tweak it to where when in a call the user manually presses the power button to turn screen off, the screen stays off even when the caller or whoever hangs up.
A feature that would be great for me is a quick toggle/widget to toggle the motion launch gestures. I have to go through all the settings menus every time I want to toggle it (which is only when I'm at work). When at work, my phone stays in my pocket, and I am moving around a lot, so sometimes my thigh will unlock the phone and open apps, along with draining my battery.
Changing images for navigation bar.

U WOT M8?
Just pointing out a few things:
1. As far as the WiFi notification, you can get rid of this by going to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced, and de-selecting the "Notify me" option. This is what I did on my previous phone (M7) and my M8, and since de-selecting that box, I've never seen the WiFi notification pop up.
2. The Wake Gestures actually can be used when the phone is laying down. This also annoyed me to no end initially, until I saw someone post that you can just move your phone slightly to make the wake gestures work. I'm assuming this works because it trips the internal movement sensor, which then makes the phone think that it's been picked up. The movement doesn't even have to be vertical; I just slightly move my phone to the side a bit, and it's enough to make the wake gestures work for me.
Email Widget for the native Sense email app...i cannot BELIEVE this was left out by HTC/VZW/whoever...WTF!
I'd like to be able to adjust the grid size of the home screens, 4 across is too spaced out, I like it lining up with 4 icons and app drawer icon at the bottom.
Also, as mentioned in another post, I'd like to be able to customize the keys next to the home key, i.e. move the back key to the right and replace the multitask key with the menu key etc.
ability to hide the standard soft buttons and replace them with LMT style popup buttons.
Ability to toggle individual gestures on and off. I'd like to have double tap to wake, but turn off swipe to wake. I end up waking the device with a swype simply by pulling it out of my pocket which I don't want.
Toggle automatic factory reset on 10 bad unlock attempts on and off or set the number of failed attempts to an arbitrary number.
Able to remove ANY of the always on notificatios. Alarm, keyboard, hearing aid boost, nfc, etc

I love the "knock on" feature, tho I agree, it would be very nice if it worked even when the phone is laying flat. But why is there no "knock off"? Don't they kinda go hand in hand?
Ability to have more than 10 alarms

Slide finger across statusbar to control brightness like Gravitybox (enabling in Gravitybox does not work on our devices).
Ability to display notifications from more than the stock HTC apps when using the Dot Matrix case.

I have found that tapping the screen 3 times (instead of 2) will usually wake the screen while it is laying on a desk. Just use a little bit of force on the first tap... It seems like an accelerometer needs to detect motion before the screen digitizer wakes up.
This would still be a nice feature request, though I have a feeling it won't be possible without having a significant effect on battery life.

Three taps with the phone laying flat has been working for me as well.
I would love to see a built in data transfer rate in the status bar like Android revolution has for the m7

Snooze

Does anyone else find it absolutely the alarm's snooze function to be completely ridiculous that the you have to:
1) Enable an option just to be able to snooze an alarm
2) Can then only snooze a preset, non-configurable, three times in five minute intervals
3) Once the alarm goes off the actual snooze button is tiny. Like 1"x3/4" big. You have to try and tap this while fiddling with your phone in the middle of sleep. You can't just slide your finger across the phone to a preset snooze area as you could with all other galaxy phones that I can remember.

Never tried that and I'm not sure. Will try tonight once my wife is home since she is the one with the phone. I was just creating the thread to get discussion going because she didn't know there was no snooze until the alarm went off this morning. But even if the home button does snooze, it will only snooze if the option has been set and then will only snooze three times, and to top it off only in five minute intervals. Why can't that be changed?

i dont know how the alarm and snooze thing work on the S6, but on my S4 i can snooze it with the home button without even waking up, and i can snooze every alarm 10 times, with 3 minutes between every two rings....hope its the same with the S6 because i am planning on getting one soon....

I'll post a screenshot tonight but I do know that when you go to add an alarm that there is an area under the time that you select for 'Options'. That expands the window and you have a few options like vibrate, change the ringtone, increase volume as alarm goes on, and there is Snooze. Selecting it sets snooze to go off three times in five minute intervals....no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It won't go off repeatedly until you turn of the alarm and can't adjust the intervals. That is really my (and my wife's) biggest issue with it that you can change the intervals and that is a preset three times that can't be changed. So you won't be able to set it to your liking of "with 3 minutes between every two rings"

+1 for Timely.
IMO, there's not much use complaining about system apps like this that are so easily replaceable. Just download one you like better!
Yep, Timely all the way. I don't even know what the alarm of my current phone (LG G3) looks like, been using Timely since day 1..
Snooze shouldn't even be a feature at all. Just get your butt up when your alarm goes off...
Maybe everyone should have to go to the military for a few years. That would fix your snooze problem right up. ☺

This. My wife hits snooze like 3-4 times before she gets up, I get up when my alarm first goes off. It's funny and annoying really, we both get up at 5:20 but her stupid alarms always wake me up earlier.
It's a bit ridiculous that they removed functionality from the prior generations. I am coming from an S4 and the default alarm app was perfect, could choose snooze duration and amount of times and setting up a repeat was as easy as tapping the days I wanted the alarm to ring on. I know default apps are easy to replace, it's just unfortunate that I now need to use a new app for functionality that always used to be there. </rant>

It is unfortunate, but as others have said - Timely is awesome.
How in the hell do they fudge something like that up.
Sorry if I'm gravedigging, but the Google clock available from the Play Store allows you to adjust the snooze interval. With root, I was able to uninstall the Samsung clock in Titanium Backup so the Google clock is the default.
Thanks so much for the timely recommendation. I was having a hard time finding an app that gestures would work with.
