Everything that kernel 3.0 can do kernel 2.6 can be made to do (backported), it was just Linus decided it was time to stop the incremental updates 2.x.x and just move to 3.x already. Otherwise 3.x is just 2.7-ish..just the next step up from 2.6 that is.

hi all, i bought a xoom U.S wifi only version on the internet running 3.1. It's rooted and running different room other than stock rom. i'd like to update to 3.2 just came out but have no idea how to do it. could anyone guide me step by step and what downloads i need to get this done? i am not a tech savy person but i can follow instructions very well, please help me, thanks

Tiamat Rom 2.0 Manta Ray is great. For me, stock rom is boring. With Tiamat you get all the functions stock 3.2 still doesn't have.
If so could u help me to have Tiamat rom on mine? I think i have the stock rom rooted now.. .not sure tho cuz i dont know much about this stuff.. step by step guidance will be very helpful, thanks alot
You do need to know whether you are rooted and what rom you are currently running. This information will determine what method you use to flash the Tiamat rom.Have you tested to see if you have root? That will make things easier.
thanks okantomi for your advice, the guy who sold this xoom to me told me it's rooted. i even downloaded a few apk apps and they work fine. i am sure it's rooted but i don't know what type of rom its running. could you be able to tell what rom it's running by looking at the info? thanks..Here is info on my xoom

Hi, i install the S3N5EaY XE35 v2.0.0 - Full ROM Release Date: 30 October 2011,
I like it, she works perfectly............. but i try to install :
CTDroiD_Tweaks_Patch_1.8.x_v2.zip by the recovery, the install works but when i reboot nothing happen, my phone didn't boot what is the problem? do i miss someting? or the patch is not up to date?
And another question, before i have the same Rom but the 1.8, in application we have one who gave me information, a counter of my consomation of data...sms...minute of communication.... and i didn't find them... where is she or what is the name of this app to re install it?

sorry can quite understand the second half of your question. but as for why the tweaks might not work is because the patch is for 1.8.x versions and you have 2.0.0
wait for dev to come out for patch for 2.0.x version and that will work for you. the rom is still new so give it some time.
1.8.x means it will work with any version of the rom with 1.8 in it i.e 1.8.1, 1.8.2, 1.8.3 ect...ect...

Hi thx to reply in fact, it's works, after 3 time the mod works perfectly !!!
But for my second question:
before i update my rom to 2.0, i have the 1.8 and in this Rom, i have an application maybe an htc official app, i don't know... but she gave my a data counter, sms counter and minutes counter... and y don't find them... maybe someone knows is name...

i see that rom's version ha upgraded to 2.3.6 the modem
was upgraded to uclb3
but the kernel is
if i tried the sgs flasher with the zimage from the same thread the kernel went to uclb3
but the the cwm didn't work, got error in the recovery 3e ,
dont' thave enough permitions
but all the root functions work well (getting sys folder end etc.. )

you can't have cwm and a 2.3.6 kernel at the same time. nobody with the knowledge have repacked the ram bootdisk into a stock kernel with access to cwm. when source code is available we will likely see new kernels with cwm. now there is a shortage of kernel developers and none that want to waist the time before an update is official and final because it may become obsolete in a week anyway.

2.3.3 is the latest kernel version with source code. att never released source. ode even though they updated to 2.3.6. they have been playing games it seems.
the changes in android versions are minor. most don't actually apply to the infuse. things like support for wimax and video function in gtalk are things listed in the changelog in Wikipedia which obviously did not make it into the infuse roms. the only thing that might apply is the battery enhancements in 2.3.5. other than that it is mostly a number. the truth is that it more designates which version of the nexus s it was developed for than specific improvement.

I do not know the nitty-gritty details of your device, so proceed with caution on your side...
As far as I know, you can use any kernel with any rom (unless the rom developer expressly mentions not to)...
As for the best kernel, there is nothing as best...its all trial and error...you will need to find the kernel+rom combination that suits your need...

I have a Baseband / 2.6.32 Kernel but i want to upgrade it to Baseband / 2.6.35 Kernel. because i want to install "IceColdSandwich by elol " Rom and it uses the newer kernel version. (My phone is Spice MI 410 Indian version )
So my question is can i update my Kernel?
If yes, then can i update it using SUT? (AS its the easiest and safe way, i had bricked my phone earlier without it!)
And if you are kind enough can you give me a link or advise to the file which can update it as i have no clue where to look except asking you guys

What you're looking for: SUTLR 1.8, and Andro-ID RC3 by TJ style

Flashing Andro-ID through SUT is necessary because it implements a new baseband on which the .35 kernel can only work... And to flash a nb0 with .35 baseband you must use SUT 1.8 or above
