Hi all i am after an answer to a question i can't find anywhere,
Can i use my P1000 tab or My Galaxy S2 to connect to a serial port RJ45 etc and get either to read enabling Serial, Telnet and SSH connectivity to devices in the field, full session logging, configuration etc like the Get-Console on the Ipad,
Has this been done or out there if so help would be greatful, I work in data storage and this would be awesome to have to hand.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with the following question :
I just flashed my Polaris100 to Android 2.2, which works very good now. I'd like to use this device with the XCSoar navigation program, which normally gets its GPS data via the built in GPS.
During winter I'd like to connect my polaris to my Mac via Bluetooth using the serial port service, so that XCSoar can get it's NMEA data from my soaring simulator (SilentWings). So I need to transfer NMEA data from my Mac to my Polaris. This helps me to practice during the winter period. In WM6.1 this was easily done, because:
a) the serial service was build in
b) all used com-ports were shown in the settings menu or could be hacked to show/be edited.
So my questions are:
a) how can I activate the serial service in Android
b) how can I see which com-port is then used for my polaris BT connection (I need to set this port in XCSoar as external device)
I could not find a workable solution on the www or on this forum. I mean "workable", because most solutions or discussions are written in very technical terms and code, but I am an end-user and not familiar with all these terms. I do not know terminal commands as well...
Thanks for your help, Reno
I've never used Bluetooth, I connected to the computer through USB
Eh... what do you suggest by that? Although USB stands for Universal Serial Bus, it isn't recognized by the GPS app as a com-port. As I understood in that case I need a usb-serial service on both my mac as my android, right?
So can you be more specific and tell me how to do it with a usb connection?
Thanks, R.
Hello everyone,
I am taking networking classes and I was wondering if it's possible, instead of carrying a laptop with me, to use my SGS2(rooted) to configure switches/router with.
I bought a female to female usb adapter, and i also have a USB to serial cable. So all the cabling is fine, but still when I open a console emulator i get nothing going there...
I believe it may be parity related, but there seem to be no console parity settings on any of the terminal emulators that i was able to find on the market.
Usualy, if you extablish a console connection from a laptop via USB, the usb port gets defaulted to COM3 or COM4. Do android devices have a defaulted COM port to the usb connection, Is there a config file where I can change it, or is it supported at all?
any help would be appreciated,
thanks
I have been an I.T. support engineer for 15 years or so and love a challenge. Consequently my departement director gave me one to see if I could figure it out before our HQ I.T. could. It is annual review time so I naturally accepted the challenge.
Challenge - Connect an Android Tablet to a wired ethernet connection and run a speed test on the wired connection.
We have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (model GT-P7510 to be exact)
Android version - 3.2
Kernel Version - 2.6.36.3
USB Debugging mode is enabled
Unknown sources (install of non-Market apps) is enabled.
Purchased a Samsung EPL-1PL0BEGXAR USB Connection Kit for the Galaxy Tab 10.1
Purchased a USB RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Network Lan Card Adapter
(cant post links yet but search for "New USB RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Network Lan Card Adapter For Apad E11 Haipad")
When you connect the USB RJ45 device it is not recognized.
To ensure the USB was working I verified that a USB thumb drive was recognized and files could be accessed.
The USB RJ45 device came with a CD with drivers for various OS including what appeared to be Android as they had indicated on their website that this particular tablet could work with the device. (DRIVERS ATTACHED AS ZIP)
Apparently it may be a usb2net type device from what I could determine looking through the files.
As I am a complete novice at Linux, Android etc I did not know what to do with these files or how and where to copy them to on the Android Tablet.
I spent free time over the past couple of weeks looking through forums and even downloaded Android SDK Manager and read up on what adb was and was able to use a command prompt to browse the device folder structure.
So, as I have a crazy week and then off for xmas break I and am turning to the experts and asking for your advice.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated
usb2net GT-P7510
Hi,
I can see your post is quite old... but I'm in the same case :
"Looking for a way to connect my Galaxy tab 10.1 (GT-P7510) to a wired ethernet"
I have the usb2net cable (usb to RJ45) but this connection is not recognize by the GT-P7510 ... is there a way to update the firmware?
I've seen the the galaxy tab 2 recognize the ethernet connections.
If you or someone founded a way, could you explain please.
Thx a lot.

It is not possible on that model. Hardware does not support it so suggest you do not waste more time like I did
Hey everyone !
So here's the problem : I've got a Nexus 7 + Galaxy S2 I727R that I'd like to use at work. I could tether the connection from my S2 to my tablet and use that but I'm not on unlimited data plan. I also know I can share my PC connection via Bluetooth but that'd need a specific software to be installed, in the lines of stuff like BlueSoleil. Considering I have no admin rights at workplace, is there any alternative that would permit me to share the PC connection via a Bluetooth dongle without installing a software ? The BT dongle is detected AND installed via Windows 7 but there is no BT icons in the bottom-right corner and there's no built-in BT-software on the computer.
I did my research on the PortableApps forum, which would be a decent option but I can't seem to find anything...
Anyone had any luck sharing Internet over BT on a workplace PC ?
Thanks.
P.S : Remember, no admin rights.
Sorry you can't use a BT dongle without some sort of bluetooth software installed
Yes there are bluetooth dongles which are plug and play, which don't need installing drivers, see these ones for example
BLUETOOTH ADAPTER DONGLE PC LAPTOP-PLUG "N" PLAY - UK
Tiny Plug & Play Bluetooth 2.0 USB Dongle 100m range
Mini Bluetooth Dongle for Computers and Laptops - Plug N Play Transfer Files
Problem is all of them support Bluetooth 2.0 not 2.1+EDR, please advise and please help find a bluetooth dongle which is plug and play and is designed for bluetooth 2.1+EDR
Thing is, even with the bluetooth dongle working you won't be able to share Internet connection through ICS without admin rights. If anyone has a workaround on this, it would be appreciated!! I'd like to use my S2 more at work, but with 250mb / month it's left unused most of the day =/

Admins please move this thread if it is not in the right area! -Thank you.
Problem:
I work in what appears to be a lead lined hospital. I have zero connection and no wifi. Internet access is locked down fairly tight. However I have an interesting idea/work around.
Idea:
"S3 > Micro USB to RJ45 adapter"
Then clone the mac address of the computer assigned to that port. (I'm hoping android or Ubuntu (phone) will be able to side step the Windows authentication and grant internet access.) I've searched the forums and found members looking for help with these adapters - attempting wired connection. - But there doesn't seem to be any clear answers. Accept for, "it probably won't work" with no further explanation. So I'm going to give it a try. I've already ordered the adapter off Amazon. If I can't get an answer here after a few days I'll give it a shot and post the results here for the nerdy folks who care.
I'm not looking to do anything malicious here. I'm new to networking, Linux and this type of smart phone use, and looking to tinker around with the combination.
What do you guys think? Possible? Not possible? Cool idea?
