I've just started trying out custom roms and I've noticed while some roms such as CyanogenMod lets you restore all previously installed apps upon installation other ones doesn't. If I flash a rom which doesn't support it all my apps still stand as installed if I search for them in market on the computer however it's a pain to manually reinstall all apps so is there anyway to trigger something which reinstall all apps like CM do?
well, i don't know what PHONE you are using, but on my inspire 4g with a gingerbread rom, altho the rom doesn't do much with app reloads, just by signing into my google account my apps reappear on their own.
Use Titanium Backup. Run a batch backup of user apps. Then when you install a new rom, run a batch restore. This will restore data as well - game progress, an app's settings, etc. The free version only allows one backup at a time (if you backup the app again, it overwrites the last backup) and you have to agree to the permissions of each app. In the paid version, you can set the max number of backups yourself and everything will install in the background. There's tons of other cool stuff the app can do, I suggest checking it out.

This is the way to go. Trust me on that. One more thing if you kind of like a certain rom but you just want to try others make sure you do a nandroid back up. This makes life a hell of a lot easier if you don't like rom boot back to recovery and restore your last back up. I nan once a week so I keep a fresh image cuz I am always adding and removing apps.

As far as my experience when (this afternoon), TI is the ONLY way to go (although, you'll want to root first).
A follow up question on this topic. I have TI Pro and made a backup of apps and data. After flashing an update ROM on my EVO, I could get most of the apps, but not all of them back. Actually, some apps would not even reinstall -- e.g. Twitter gave me some error about a shared library missing. Any ideas?
I bought the paid version of Titanium backup but during batch restore, I still have to press install/cancel and open/done for each app. Is that correct or did I miss changing a setting?

Not sure, I have never had to do this, and I have not changed any settings that I know of.
I am about to flash my first ROM on my Inspire. I did a NAND backup and copied all the contents of my sd card to my computer.
My question is if I transfer it back onto my sd card after flashing will it restore my apps and other data?

No. Apps need to be installed, not just copied (that's assuming that you're talking about apps on the SD card, and not on the phone's memory).
Do as most of the posts above suggest and do a backup using Titanium Backup. Then you can batch restore (with the paid version) or app-by-app restore (with the free version) after flashing your new ROM.
Titanium is excellent , however I find backups arent always compatible between roms. I sometimes get errors after a restore. For that reason I just sing into Market after flashing a new rom and let the apps re download.
TI Backup
I purchased the pro version, batch backed up all of my apps. Installed MikG on Evo 4g and now I can't access TI back up. I also did a nand back up. when I restore data nothing happens. Please help. I just want my apps back.

that's the right way..
Two options.
1. Push your apps recorded in your android market library to your phone.
2. Use titanium backup.
Titanium backup is easier, but since you do a reset to make everything fresh, I would prefer the first option.
What you do is to go to android market library from your PC browser. It has all your apps listed. For each app, use the install button to push it to your phone. You need not wait between apps. Just push which ever app you need and they will automatically get downloaded and installed to your phone. For some reason, Google has kept the reinstall feature hidden. See this for details -

I don't know, google play used to reinstall my apps when I was on stock sony rom, but since I use Cyanogen now, it doesn't do it. I always keep checked option "keep backed up with bla bla", but it doesn't restore automatically :/

OK so installed new rom this morn. Last night I used TB to backup my apps. So install Tom and reinstall TB then transfer TB folder back to phone. Go into TB and run missing apps .. only thing is not all my apps show. Like engadget, friends caster,face book,twi, and etc. Another 38 of 60.
So I search in TB for TWI.. and this is what I get..(attatched pic)
So a question I have is there any way to get the apps out of the TB backup folder? And why is look like that?

First off this is probably covered in the general section a search would find plenty of results. But the answer to your question is that you dont have to copy or move any of your backups at all after creating the backup. Look to your external_sd once you install your ROM and then re-install TIBU. You can open and allow Root access for TIBU then go to your phones menu option and select Preferences. Scroll down the list of option until you find Backup Folder Location then click detect and select entire device. It will locate all backup directories, select your regular backup directory and then **Important** select Use Current and close preferences. It should update all of your previous backups. Click the phones menu again and select Batch and Restore Missing Apps with data. You should be good to go at that point. If you dont have any backups then you may not have done your previous backup correctly. Another suggestion I can make is once you get your phone restored and all apps installed the way you want it. Run the Delete Backups batch job and start fresh with a new set of backups.

I don't.know if this already exist, and if it does.please point me in the right direction, but I would like an app the backs up all of your apps into a flashable .zip, mainly to make things easier so you don't have to go through all the hassel with titanium backup. Thanks guys.

Um.. No...
He's asking if there's a way to backup select apps, then compile them into a flashable zip, so when you flash a new rom, you can restore your apps very quickly, without needing to go through the titanium restore process. Far different than restoring a whole rom.
I think it's an excellent idea and would certainly benefit many people, or at least speed things up for them.

I think you must take some data with apk one by one which want to backup from system. make flashable zip and build new updater-script with some script to restore and setperm for some data and apk. it's too hard and need more time for making that package.
i like the idea. I'm gonna see if i can make it happen. It seems all we need to do is make an update.zip with a script that adds apks to the data folder. and all you would have to do is manually add the apks to the zip. like ...open the premade zip in winrar and drag the apks to it.

just curious about something - I know you said you wanted to avoid going through TiBu but does this really save that much time? Just install TiBu and restore all apps. Voila! done.

if you have a ton of apps,modded system apps,etc it be a pain to create such a package. I personally rather use TB since I have a few apps I restore with data once I do a batch install. easier to be selective and safe with TB but I do see it's purpose for a zip if you only have a handful of apps

ok here goes ...back up your apps using astro.....copy them to a directory on your desktop ...take the attached zip and open it (not extract) with winrar ....insert apks from backup directory into /data/app and close the zip. now you have a flashable zip. confirm works on samsung epic 4g...let me know if it works on yours.View attachment backups.zip

Actually it does not look like a genuine backup since all the applications' data will be lost. Some apps will be like they were installed for the first time, other apps (those that use lib files) just will not work.
Other than the apks you should copy into the zip the apps' data (take a look at the /data/data folder).
Let's take a realistic approach toward this idea.
First let me say I think it is a decent idea. The idea of Wipe > Flash ROM > Flash apps actually sounds pretty cool. How does this idea compare to Titanium Backup?
This idea:
- Backup desired apps with or without data (per app)
- The app creates suitable updater script and zip package
- Wipe > flash ROM > flash apps > done.
Titanium Backup:
- Backup desired apps with or without data (per app)
- Wipe > flash ROM.
- Boot, run Titanium, restore desired apps.
That is how the app backup/restore process goes BASICALLY. Now, in order for someone to take the time to write an app for something like this, the app would need to be a decent competitor to Titanium. That means either the idea of selecting a bunch of apps and making a restore zip is sufficient or the app will have to have a lot of functionality that Titanium Backup has along with the zip restore function. I'm sure even someone who is not a developer could figure Titanium took a LONG time to write. This app would take a lot of time to write as well. Is it worth it?

I think that hits the nail right on the head. This is a great idea for an add-on feature to a backup app such as Titanium Backup, not a standalone app.
With that said, I do think it would be interesting to see an app with very basic functionality, unlike Titanium Backup, where you do a one-time backup for each backup and create a zip. I could write this and it would not be too painful but it does require a good chunk of time and unfortunately I don't think it would be quite worth the time.
Ill test out the backup.zip tomorrow after school, I have to study for finals for now. And, if anybody would have the.email of the developer St titanium backup, it would be much appreciated so that I could suggest the ad on

However, whenever I flash a new ROM, all my apps start coming back. If I try to install the Key from the Play Store, it gets pushed under everythign else and downloads at the end.
I tried the option in Titanium Backup settings where it copies Titanium Backup as an update.zip to the sd card, but that only restores the regular, FREE Titanium Backup app, without the key.
So my question is: How do I restore the Titanium Backup Pro Key on my first boot into a new rom, without installing any of the other apps I previously had? (I prefer to restore everything with Titanium Backup, rather than letting the Play Store do it)

When you flash a new rom uncheck keep this phone backed up with my google account. That is not exactly how its worded but its in the initial set up.

I do the following steps:
before installing new ROM,
I first back up all apps using Titanium Backup. I ensure that I back up the Titanium PRO app as well.
Then after installing the new ROM... i do the following:
after signing into the phone - I go to play store and stop all downloads and install Titanium Backup free.
when I run the free version it automatically registers the PRO version as it is backed up in it.
then I can restore all other apps using Titanium back up PRO.

Yeah I figured it, what I have to do is sign in from my account but uncheck the boxes for backing up accounts and restoring to the phone. Then I just download both the program and its key from the market. Thanks!

I hear dev support is pretty good (never had to contact him/her/them myself though)
because when applications freeze, then thaw and then I said: application not installed
I leave the option to keep my phone baked up to my account when I flash a new rom, but always uncheck the first option that says something to the effect of "restore from my account". Then I grab tb from the play store, unless the rom has a baked in file explorer, since I keep a copy backed up in my storage.
Installing my backup root prior to flashing a new rom will do absolutely no good if you wipe data.

You guys are unchecking the 'backup to google accounts ' box, but can you check it again, later on? Because I do want my stuff to be backed upwith google as well.

I always leave the backup to Google option checked, but always uncheck the restore from Google option.

You dont have to uncheck anything, as soon as the phone gets to the homescreen just go to the play store and stop the downloads just takes a click. Keeping google restore checked you will have your contacts back as soon as you boot up.
Contacts will restore whether the restore from Google account is selected during initial setup or not, as long as contacts are allowed to sync with your account.

I use titanium backup pro and when i want to restore the to the same serial my phone its blocks. I root the phone from 2 times for this cause.

Titanium PRO and RUU Europe_3.14.401.27
I installed stock ROM Europe_3.14.401.27 and rotted via HTC, but Titanium pro tells me "NOT ROOTED"
Tried the recommandations like wipe, use rcm set privileges, no prevail,
Anybody has new ideas?
Solved the problem by installing openrecovery-twrp and than in recovery mode CWM-SuperSU-v0.99
Now Titanium Pro works
TB not restoring apps
Hello, before I installed Pac-Man 4.4, I made a backup with TB. Ported them with usb to my desktop from the computer. did a full wipe. flashed pacman 4.4 and gapps. then i installed tb from the play store, also pro version, then ported the files back from computer to tb file, opened tb and want to choose restore but there are zero apps to restore and normaly there are 350. Some help is welcome thank you.

backup from phone to desktop file the name of the file went from

and

installed "lammer context menu" ---> batch rename .... remove - Copy
OK here is my problem. Im still a noobie at all this. I backed up all my files with titanium backup, wiped both my caches factory reset and flashed my ROM on my GS3. Downloaded titanium backup again and all the restore options were empty, nothing there. But my internal memory is still full and under titanium backup in my files all my apps and data is still there. Why didn't TB save my backup? Is there anyway to restore using just the files or am I pretty much f ucked? Please help thank you.

Hmm, what rom are you using? Cuz it may have changed your internal storage just a tad bit. If you're using AOSP, you might need to do this first: open Titanium Backup (TB) and go to Settings/Preferences/Backup Folder Location//Detect/Scan Whole Device.
That said:
1) open TB and choose "Backup/Restore" then "Click to edit filters"
2) select "backed up" and "uninstalled"
3) tap the check mark on the top right. You'll see your backed up apps now.
4) Tap the check mark on the top right again, scroll down to the "Restore" tab and choose "restore missing apps with data." Do not restore system data.
5) Done.

Aight, I see you're using a different phone so I do not know the file structure. Did TB restore any of your apps OR was it unable to find your backups at all? Cuz if it did not find any backups then open TB and navigate here: Menu/Preferences/Backup Folder Location/Detect/Whole device. This will force TB to scan your entire device (internal and external storage) for your TB backups. If this does not work then there likely is not a backup on the device.

Thanks! I have done all that u mentioned, and I was able to find backups. BUT, all of my apps have not restored. Am I too recreate every email account and every socia account. That sucks! What the devil is the purpose of TB?
All the forums say TB Pro is the best-does it all, well I found this and it is very upsetting:
1. Titanium Backup will restore all the apps along with their data to your device one by one. On the free version of the app, you will have to restore apps manually one after another. Just make sure that you don’t tap the open app button after restoring any of the app.
If you buy the pro version from the market, all the apps will be silently restored to your phone, and if you have tons of apps on your device, it makes it worth the purchase. THERE WAS NO SILENT INSTALL (and the backup are there and on my PC)
2. For some apps I don’t have the “Restore” button. Why ?
This is probably a system app that you don’t have anymore. System apps are part of your ROM, so Titanium Backup will only backup their data (not the apps themselves).
For this reason, if you backup a system app and then switch to a ROM where that app is missing, Titanium Backup obviously cannot restore the data for it. You have a data-only backup. Before you can restore the data you’ll need to install that system app again, either by reinstalling your ROM or by copying its apk manually into /system/app. I TRIED TO INSTALL JUST APPS/DATA. NO SYSTEM APPS.
If you had disabled the “Normal apps (apk)” and/or “Protected apps (apk)” options in the Backup settings, then all backups of your apps will be data-only, in which case you’ll need to re-install these apps manually before you can restore their data.
So, after deleting Rom from Slot1 (old Cm10 build) and adding the RC5 build, NOTHING was restored. How can this be??? Is there anyway that I can drag and drop files from my PC to the phone? Any and all ideas are appreciated.
