Iam using cwm recovery and i read that someone want to change from cwm to 4ext .what is the differnce between both of them ? does 4ext better than cwm ?
NO difference both do the same thing I think that 4ext has more updates and looks more user friendly but you can just change the theme
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA
4ext was originally based on cwm source code but has since been heavily amended and greatly improved, it was first to have touch only recovery and in my opinion is better, for this device in gets updated more often

Yeah I'm a big fan of 4ext touch. Previously used cwm. If recovery is something you hardly use I wouldn't recommend the upgrade, but obviously if you use recovery a lot I'd recommend the switch
Sent from my Desire Saga using xda premium
Think of 4EXT as an upgrade of CWM with more (new) features. And now has support for touch. All those asides the fact that it gets regular (read as "frequent") updates. I used to be a CWM loyalist but I really don't remember when the lines of loyalty got eroded *grins*.
yes am using recovery alot so how do i upgrade to 4ext what is the best wat to do it or any guide ?

4EXT is faster at flashing, backups everything really and the touch version is just epic IMHO
Where can I find it at? Thanks.

What is the best recovery? I know most rooms use revolutionary but what are the peeks of the other ones and why not stick with clock work? I tried figuring it out but don't know.

devs are using more 4ext cause it gives you options to install engines and what not
4EXT has a great UI and is really easy to use.

I've been a clockwork fan for a while, but it took all of 12 seconds to make me happy that I switched to 4EXT. It's REALLY easy to use.
It also shows battery % and the time in recovery. If something is taking a while that can be really handy to know that your battery is running down before you start a flash process. It's no fun is the battery dies in the middle.

What are engines? And what is this 4ext touch thing I hear about? Can you use the touch screen in the recovery? That would be great.
Btw thanks to everyone who replied. I was considering switching but wasn't sure if I should.

I think engines as in the Sony Bravia one? So basically Devs can give you the option while flashing, to select many options and add-ons, for example I just flashed InsertCoin 4.4.1 and halfway through it asked if I wanted to have a 1.5ghz overclock or add BeatsAudio. And Yes, it is touch screen making it a lot easier, as you can imagine!

Thank you to everyone, you guys helped alot. I was skeptical at first but Im gonna give 4ext a try.
4EXT is the best, I use the 4EXT Touch!
4EXT is compatible with clockworkmod, btw. You can restore any backups using 4EXT that were made with clockworkmod, and roms that work with clockworkmod will work with 4EXT. 4EXT is actually based upon the clockworkmod code base.
1 : can i install ics rom.zip on vivow (CDMA China telecom) ?
my vivow s-on bootloder unlock android 2.3.4 recovery clockwork-5.5.0.4
2 : I want a compatible ics rom on (vivow cdma) instal from recovery
any links to compatible ics rom ?
Thanks
This is posted in the wrong section for starters. I think you are having problems because a different kernel is packed with the rom and s on phones can't flash kernels through recovery.

Look into 4ext recovery touch, the new version will allow flashingof kernals with s-on, just make sure your.settings is set to s-on. It's the newest release he put.out for testing. Go to market get 4ext recovery control and flash recovery through app..

For others it's not so clear

+1 to 4EXT - by far the best featured, best supported and most stable recovery for the DS.
4ext for sure!
Nice, seems like i will keep 4ext

I have ClockworkMod Touch Recovery and really like it. I keep seeing 4EXT mentioned now though. Why is it better? If my recovery works fine, is there a reason to change?

4EXT.. coupled that with recovery control, and you get one of the, if not the most powerful recovery system for your device.. And it's cheaper than CWM system..
for me 4EXT touch still the best.
since it help me from "emmc fried" issue :good:

Anything... helpful? It's fine saying it has more options, but are there any that you actually regularly use that make it beat CWM?

Flash it and check yourself. Would take not more than 10 minutes. Also there is a complete list of features in the dedicated thread.

Well, once you're s-off you should install a custom recovery so you could install custom roms. I suggest 4Ext recovery (see my signature for the link) . After that you should Nandroid (e.g complete backup) you phone through the recovery. It will create a large file in your SD card which contains a full backup of your phone. Later you can install whatever rom you wish. I suggest you begin with Android Revolution HD - it looks like stock but it contains latest kernels, mods and tweaks.
