[Q]Already install CWM using S-off guide. Can i still install 4EXT Touch recovery? - HTC Sensation

This is the guide I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Apparently I need 4EXT to install ARHD. So since I followed steps 1-4 and have S-off, CWM, root and Super-CID, will it be ok to install 4EXT touch even though I already have CWM installed?

Yep, get the 4EXT app and it will install the Recovery

Yes, it will overwrite the CWM.

Thanks for all the answers I think I will most likely stick with the stock rom tho just because I like the Gingerbread look better than the ICS look. And If I do want to upgrade to ICS It will still be available to me.

You can go ARHD gingerbread. And it will definitely run super fast than the stock.

Hmm Well is their a high chance of a brick or my phone being stuck at reboot? That is my problem with custom roms. I had a Motorola Defy and 2 out of 7 times the rom I installed actually worked. This is a brand new phone and I really dont wanna have to ask T-mobile for a replacement in the first month of use :x

Check out this thread if you need further help flashing 4ext touch recovery (use 4ext recovery touch flashing tool posted). Also there are the guidelines to update to an ICS ROM

Stuck in reboot? Is it like the phone is keep on restarting? Like a loop?
If that's the case, then the rom is not compatible with the firmware or vice versa. There is a specific firmware version that you can use for specific roms, its usually indicated on the OP of the rom what thinga that you should use.
As long as you read and understand everything before you do the process then the phone will run fine.

I've tried the following and it worked as well:
- stock HTC GB rooted (Revolutionary S-OFF) with latest CWM installed
- flashed the 3.32 firmware
- executed superwipe script within CWM
- then flashed ARHD 6.5.x with CWM (u don't get the options to chose kernel for example, only works in 4Ext Recovery)
- as ARHD 6.5.x comes with 4EXT Touch Recovery I rebooted to recovery after ROM was flashed -> 4EXT Recovery is loading
- I flashed ARHD again from 4EXT (this time the options during install show up)
conclusion: if u accidently flashed ARHD with CWM it shouldn't be a problem. it works, but u don't get to choose some options during install (like choosing kernel). but as ARHD comes with 4EXT (at least the latest ARHD versions) u should have 4EXT Recovery installed then and u can simply reflash the ROM to be able to choose between the different options during install.
but of course the recommended way is to install 4EXT recovery before flashing.

So last question, can I follow the guide for S-off, Root and CWM and super CID and First S-off and then install 4EXT Touch by flashign tool and then root and supercid? And then flash the 3.32 firmware for ARHD 6.5.1 and then install ARHD with 4EXT? Will this work?

im lovin the roms that are out for this phone and ive been reading the how to's and noob threads,im not so much of a noob at flashing roms as i did flash lots of roms before but considering as im new to the htc sensation im alil confused on how to be flashing roms for this phone

Virtuous inquisition 4.
For sense ics roms id go with mike1986 arhd 6.5.3 rom.
So what u need to do is root ur sensation
Supercid
Flash 4ext recovery. Its an apk and easy to do
Upgrade ur firmware to 3.32. Flash in bootloader.
Need mike1986 superwipe script
Rom of your choice.
Boot into recovery. Flash the superwipe. Then flash ur rom. Quick run down of what you need to do.
Skill required? Not much. The hardest part might be using adb and fastboot commands for the supercid. Other than that its easy as pie

thanks so much,so now the supercid i read up on it while requiring s-off and root thats alil confusing but ill read up on it again and the superwipe ive been seeing that on rom threads "flash superwipe" what is that and where would i get it?
and i need a big help,i tried upgrading my firmware to 3.32 and it said "wrong cid" "fail" now its stuck on the htc logo and bootloops help please :'(
Superwipe is down toward the bottom of OP of this thread. It leaves you with a very very clean phone. So no apps, no user data, no ROM. You'd want to have a nandroid backup at the very least before superwiping, as well as titanium backup for your apps etc. You just flash superwipe from recovery like a ROM (install .zip from sdcard).
Sounds like you've got hold of the wrong firmware for your CID. So you either need to know your CID (if you've got your head around adb and fastboot commands, "fastboot getvar cid" will get that for you) and find the right firmware, or supercid your phone so you can use any firmware. Go to this thread for firmware.
For your firmware there's a file,
android.txt, that has a list of CIDs. The T-Mobile CID usually isn't in it. If you do the superCID you shouldn't have to worry about it. Other wise you have to open the file located in the PGM581000 file and add CIDT-MO010 to the txt file. Either way make sure you delete the PGM file immediately after you flash it.

Go to the dev thread for ROMs, ARHD is my preference. Good directions and all the files you need linked right there. Well most ROM threads are that way but this ROM and firmware are smooth and flawless.

This is misleading and not really true. First of all, VI is not true AOSP but Sense with most of the obviously sense parts removed. Secondly OpenSensation CM9 is hands down the best true AOSP rom and now that it has bluetooth and 1080p camcorder there's virtually no reason to use a senseless sense rom like vi.

CID is carrier identification. The thread you downloaded your T-Mobile firmware from contains firmwares for a variety of CIDs, in other words, specific to whichever carrier your phone came from. SuperCID removes that form of 'branding' and allows you to flash any firmware file, if you look through the list of firmware they can all be flashed to a device with CID 11111111. So essentially we superCID for convenience.
SuperCID has no bearing on what ROMs you can flash, the only consideration is that a particular ROM will require a certain firmware, eg. ICS ROMs need 3.12 base or higher.

Almost. SuperCID and custom recovery you can do no worries. Firmware upgrade will depend on what stock ROM is currently installed, if you flash firmware that your stock ROM isn't compatible with you will get bootloops and most likely have to downgrade. So personally I wouldn't be looking to upgrade firmware until you intend to flash a ROM that requires it. At that point you'll want a custom recovery anyway so it won't hurt to install that now.

Thanks. I'm currently on the T-Mobile Sensation 4G stock ROM S-Off/Rooted. Will going to the 3.32 firmware wipe the stock ROM or cause bootloops for sure?
I also have ClockWork Recovery from a really long time ago. Using ROM Manager to flash a new recovery (trying to update) does nothing. Why does that happen? Perhaps my recovery is too old?

I'm would assume your 4G would already be running ICS? In which case you probably already have up-to-date firmware installed. The firmware update generally applies for people coming from GB to ICS. Go to Settings/About Phone/Software Information/More/Build Number and see what numbers you have there.
Flashing firmware will not wipe your ROM, the worst that will happen is bootloops if the firmware and ROM aren't compatible.
The recovery you have now shouldn't stop you from flashing a new one, instead of using ROM Manager try downloading 4ext from the Play Store and see how that goes.

Hey guys, a question about rooting.

My HTC sensation will be here tomorrow and the first thing I'm gonna do is install a custom ROM because I've played around with a sensation in the shop and sense 3 seems sluggish. If I'm right these are the things required to install a custom ROM:
1.S-OFF the device
2.Install recovery 5.0.0.8
3.Permanently root device by flashing su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip via recovery.
4.Download and flash PG58IMG.zip via recovery.
5.Download Rom and flash via recovery.
If I got any of these wrong can you guys please tell me.
Thanks.
The new HTC Sensation phones will probably have the ICS stock ROM, which will have a HBOOT version of 1.27.00.00, revolutionary still hasn't updated their software to work for this HBOOT version. So yeah, we gotta wait.
If it Non ICS, and u need to flash ICS rom, do tje firmware upgrade as well as Super CID...so as to flash an ICS rom smoothly....

A couple noobie questions

Hello everyone,
I’m a total rookie by the way and and have spent a decent amount of time reading on my own before posting anything here. I am wanting to flash cm9 on my sensation 4g. Based on some of the research I have done, before I can flash cm9 I first need to install stock ics in order to get the 3.32 firmware correct? I also thought I read somewhere that before I can update the firmware I first need to update the hboot version (currently my hboot is 1.17.1111) but now I can’t find where I read that.
As I’m reading some of the guides on how to flash these roms it seems like all of them are saying “make sure you have cwm recovery installed”. Well when I first rooted my phone I was watching some youtube videos and following the steps. For some reason the one I chose had me install teamwin recovery, so that is what I use instead of cwm recovery. Does that make any difference? Can I still update firmware and flash ics roms with twrp?
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA
Get supercid,root,s-off and cwm after thats done first download your desired rom and also the 3.32 firmware first boot into recovery flash the rom..
Then when its done just power off hold volume down + power (make sure fastboot is disabled ) and update firm ware reboot delete the pg58img from root of your sdcard and voila!
Sent From My Sexy Sensation.
well, you don't need to install the stock ics rom, but you need to flash the 3.32 firmware, that allows you to run ics roms...
I suggest you to install 4ext recovery, I don't know if you have to downgrade your hboot, mine was the right one and I don't know hot to do that, you'll find a guide or something like that on this forum...
if you have already rooted I think that you will not have any problem flashing a recovery or the fw...
and, my personal suggestion...if you want aosp experience flash aokp official rom, I tried both roms and aokp is more stock feeling

You have 1.17.1111 Hboot which tells me you are S-offed via Revolutionary. This means you can flash the 3.32 firmware that is linked in the ARHD ROM thread and then flash any Android 4.0.3 ROM you want to flash.
The Team win Recovery works just as good a Clockwork Mod Recoveryto me, 4EXT Recovery is my preferred re overy. You can use Team Win Recovery to flash any of the things you mentioned.

Can 4EXT flash any ROM (eg. Gingerbread)?

I've just recently done S-OFF and installed 4EXT recovery plus the latest ARHD ROM.
However I'd like to revert back to a Gingerbread ROM. Preferably a custom one.
Just wondering if 4EXT is capable of flashing any ROM or is it only compatible with the newer ROMS like ICS etc?
Could somebody also recommend a good Gingerbread ROM if possible?
Thanks.

Using Jelly Bean here so no knowledge on the latest GB ROMs.
The issue is to get compatible Firmware for the chosen ROM.
I'm a CWM user but understand that EXT4 can do all that's needed.
So What is your Radio/HBOOT version ??

[Q] bricked sensation xe, help

Hey i bricked my htc sensation xe while trying to get the Android 4.1.2 Viper S 3.1.2 Jelly Bean Custom Firmware rom. I followed this tutorial:
cannot post links because im new here sorry, its the first link when you google "vipers 3.1.2 sensation techbeasts"
this is my current situation: when i try to start the phone the green htc sign appears for a few seconds, then the screen turns black and nothing happens. i can access bootloader, fastboot (it connects to my computer) and i can access the recovery menu. when i open bootloader
this information appears:
*** unlocked ***
pyramid pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-1.29.0000
eMMC-boot
Mar 2 2012,18:14:34
this is how it happened: around 10 hours ago i had a completely stock htc sensation xe with Android 4.0.3. Because of perfomance issues
and my need to costumize stuff (years ago i had a jailbreaked ipod touch 2g and it was fun costumizing skins and adding tweaks ) i decided to
install a custom rom on my sensation xe, and i found the vipers 3.1.2 rom online. so i found a simple looking tutorial (link in introduction) to install it. i oversaw the little note that i need a ROOTED sensation and just started following the tutorial. after running into small problems i found out that i have to unlock the phone, which i did successfully with the htcdev website. after flashing the boot.img i was told to reboot the phone and it blackscreens after the htc logo ( it doesnt even show the quietly brilliant part ). its still not rooted by the way.
now i need help from someone, i am completely inexperienced with androids and would like to get my phone back to running, preferably with vipers 3.1.2 .my ideas are to either get it back to stock rom and try the tutorial again (this time with rooting it first ) or maybe to just root it now somehow and to carry on with the vipers rom installation. but i dont want to just go ahead and try it out and maybe hardbrick it. can somebody please help me out and tell me what to do?
You need to install custom recovery and flash a rom of your choice through recovery. The part with flashing boot.img comes after flashing the rom if your phone is not s-off.
