Issues with face keys not responding - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, just picked up a Galaxy 3. So far, I like it. This problem I am having is annoying me to no end though.
Sometimes, completely randomly, my back button won't work. Sometimes the menu button wont work as well, though usually it's only the back button.
This happens on kyrillos13's ROM 10 Final and CM7A7. Both CM7 ROMS of course, but I would think this would have been mentioned.
Got this phone from a friend who probably treated it like crap. This has me wondering though, anyone else have this issue? I am thinking RMA at this point. It does NOT seem to be ROM specific or Kernel specific. Then again I have technically only tried CM7 and CM7 variants.
Thanks in advance, responses are much appreciated!

Just tried Dutch ROM with no success. Still the same issue.
Trying AOKP ICS Port. I doubt it will work.
Made an account at the Samsung site. Unless I am missing something, this needs to be RMA'd.
**edit**
Jesus.... ICS is working just fine, so far. There is a difference though. In ICS the phone doesnt vibrate when the face keys are touched. Thinking this might have something to do with it.
**edit 2**
Still working fine after 2 hours. No issues at all. Not really liking this ROM though. Not a fan of ICS at all. Jellybean will be what ICS was supposed to be. Anyways I digress... Still have no idea why this is happening.
Kernel issues? The fact that no one else has had this problem leads me to believe that this is a hardware issue. Even though it works properly in ICS. Doesn't make much sense...
Going to sleep for awhile. Any answers when I get up will be welcomed greatly. Thanks!

Well I have gotten this issue too on my g3. Its just because of lag, I'll just lock and unlock and it'll be fine for me.
Cheers

i had same problem but i was running better keyboard 8 and it was on RcMix rom..what keyboard are you using?
Has happened to me stock, not stock, gingerbread and froyo. Seems like its a random bug(possibly with touchscreen driver, which can probably be fixed). Already planned on messing with the driver to see if it can be fixed.
Happens all the time. Running latest cm7 nightly. Rather Annoying.
Sent with a hint of unicorn horn.
this happens to me all the time.
I have the same problem, it's rather annoying.
Im having the same problem. is this only on cm7?
Used to happen to me, but interestingly enough, Swype fixed it.
I have owned two android phones now (n1 and the inspire) and they both had crazy annoying keyboards. It's like google is trying to mess with us!
I have had the same issue on CM7 and now UD 1.8.
Though... this has all been pretty recent.

DAMN!! no way!! I just ripped off a perfectly nice RealLook screen protector because i kept thinking it was the coating and my finger oils causing it not to work. I was even going to post a thread saying to not buy them because it causes letters not to work every once in awhile. It happens to me ALL the time, and seems to happen much more frequently when i use the HTC IME mod keyboard, not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Di11i....it would be amazing if you could get this working better!
Never had this problem for the first month with my first inspire, when i swapped it out for a new one (unrelated problem) had this issue sine.
Had this problem on cm nightly but since those builds are on android 2.3.4, I have not had any issues

Have this same issue....ffffff

Keyboard unresponsive

Sometimes for some reason randomly ill get one key that doesnt recognize my touch. It barely ever happens but when it does it happens with the keyboard. if i were to touch that same exact spot (not in the keyboard) it works. And it happens in all the keyboards so i guess its not the keyboards problem. Just wondering if any one else gets this problem ot is it just me?

i also have this problems, am running virtuous rom( a little older).
I had the same problem when I use any sense Rom, It might just be me but since I went to cm7 I have never had that problem.
I've seen developers and users alike complain about this problem. Personally I've seen it happen (rarely) on both Sense and AOSP (CM7) ROMs, so I don't think any ROM is safe. Unfortunately the problem is totally random, and there is no way to replicate it, and there is no known fix at this time. I ran my phone for 4 months before I even saw the problem for the first time.
Known problem/issue without a fix.

Random keys not working
I've been having the same problems but I think it has only happened to me when I use custom ROMs such as Cyanogenmod or Coredroid. When I went back to stock I don't remember it happening.
I was running Coredroid V8.1 a few weeks ago and didn't like it because the font looked terrible but I think the keyboard didn't give that problem, it was with an older version of CD. Right now I am using Cyanogenmod 7.0 and it happens a lot and gets annoying. I now for a fact that is not hardware since the keyboard will work normally on landscape and other stuff will respond to the touchscreen.
Still trying to see if there is some sort of fix or to use a new keyboard. Installed GO keyboard and same thing happened, now using Swiftkey X and it happened also but now I took the protective case to see if that has something to do with it LOL and so far so good.
Is not that big of a deal because I can type in landscape mode but still kinda sucks.

coming from sgs4g

great screen... but thats about it. single core & samsung way behind still on froyo official release..
i keep reading horrible issues on the g2x... so im kinda worried, i get the phone tomorrow as a replacement... but the more i read it seems the people with issues are running stock, does upgrading the rom really fix all the common issues? I keep reading recommendations for weapon for being the most stable. How about stable CM7?
Thanks guys
I havent had any problems running weapon except once in awhile some random reboots. Right now im running MIUI 1.10.28 and its running perfect. But flashing a different rom than stock fixes most of the problems. Hopefully you dont get one with screen bleeding. I had one and it was really bad almost half the screen looked horrible
GPS is a important factor for me, which rom has GPS working correctly?
Hit and miss with GPS. What I mean is some have problem while others don't. I never had a problem with my GPS(Stock or custom rom) there is a GPS fix never looked into it since mine works. Some people having apn issues with some roms, a hard reset usually fixes this. What you going to want to see is if the phone has bad light bleed, or reboots like crazy and get hot, feels like its overheating.

Flickering screen

Hey guys so I've got a huge issue. I'm on now my 3rd SGSIII and I'm getting very annoyed. My screen goes nuts randomly. I think I've found a fix, but I'm not sure what's causing it, as most people don't show the symptoms. My screen starts flashing and flickering, whether it's the lockscreen, the homescreens, within an app or in the app menu it does the same thing. I haven't taken a video of it yet, but will if someone wants to see what's happening. I've had it happen only on JB, both roms and stock doesn't seem to matter. The 'fix' is the same one as AOSP rom users use, which is to disable hardware overlay, however I don't know why a non-AOSP rom would need to deal with this. The roms I've used are: Vengeance, CleanRom, Synergy and The Executioner. I've gotten so annoyed that I've gotten Verizon to allow me to switch to the DNA if I want. I've taken a few Logcat's, if someone who can decipher them more than I can to figure out what's actually wrong would be great! I've taken a bunch of logcats, but only have one posted to pastebin. It was taken whilst I was having the issues. Thanks for the help guys!

Nope, I don't run that stuff because all of the rendering updates and stuff can get annoying to look at while working. I'm able to get the same issues on a fully stock rom, and a pure flashed rom, with a few programs installed. But the fact that the hardware render seems to be the issue to me is just very odd on a non-AOSP rom.
I have been having screen flickering issues ever since I flashed the latest AOKP build (AOSP) I originally thought that it was because of the kernal and the under voting that I applied but even with a different governor and normal volt settings the screen still flickeres. After some poking around I figured you that it is only happening while I am trying to type and by uninstalling the Swype beta keyboard the screen flicker had been reduced to almost nothing. I do not know why the keyboard would amplify the effect but if I use the system keyboard the flickering becomes almost non existent.
Also, the screen flickers anytime a pop up menu is on screen, such as in the tapatalk app, the menu that pops up to allow you to quote someone..

Had been having the same issue on Baked Bean 6, flashed BB7 last night and it seems the problem is gone. BB7 being 4.2.1 I'm guessing whether intentional or not somewhere along the process of updating the "bug" if it indeed was as it appeared was squashed.
I'd be curious to know what was causing this, if by chance you find a definitive answer please post it.
Thanks
Lk
I had a very similar issue for a while, i flashed LEAN KERNEL
Rebooted twice, and problem went away.
For an update, I flashed kt's latest kernal and the flashing has ceased.

How to upgrade the LG G2x P999 to Android 4.1.1 JB via CyanogenMod 10 (Unofficial)

Hi All!
Recently, while surfing through the ocean of ROMs for my LG G2X P999, I came across this ROM. Couldn't find any link related to this on XDA. So thought of pointing the G2X owners to this link:
http://www.androidauthority.com/g2x-p999-t-mobile-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-unofficial-115536/
Flashed it just yesterday. Apart from the Video-recording did not notice any bugs so far. In fact I haven't used it enough to comment on bugs. But I can confirm that Calls and Wifi are both working fine.
If any one knows any prior publication of this work on XDA; please let me know so we can avoid duplicates.
Hackfest in development section.

It doesn't,
I can't get it to work on anything that is not CM7 based.
Kinda blows that our phone is limited to cm7. I love cm7 as it is treating me well, but selection is always a nice privilege

so data is working? i thought the data or radio was still broken. does this mean we may get a somewhat stable build of JB?
Still a hackfest.

I tried a couple different versions of CM7 over the past few days, and its nothing but a nightmare. It will run flawlessly for hours and then something quirky will happen and I either cant get data, or cant make calls, or my screen locks up, and im rebooting the phone or looking for a fix on google. Wound up just going back to the stock rom with faux123 kernel.

Well the problem is that other developers take the vanilla cm7 code and tweak/mod the hell out of it which is always awesome but they put out an unstable build/ROM. If you haven't tried vanilla CM7.2 from get.cm (latest build) then you're missing out. I have had the ROM installed running with mazout's latest kernel for over a week now and its been running extremely well. All and any problems that I experienced with this setup were directly due to ignorance and human error as I'm still a flaming n00b. At the same time they were great learning experiences and easily fixed.

The problem is going to lie in your setup somewhere.
Maybe kernel level as it is known that some G2xs will run great on Trinity but crash on Faux and vice versa. That's just a quick example.
I've run vanilla CM7 for like 13 months now and do not encounter the issues you are describing.
Soooo...what's your setup.

Data does work but there is issue related to rapid battery drain. Back to my stock ROM. This hasn't been updated since a long time. I wonder if any developer at all is working on this phone or not!

You are late to the party... This device is a dying device. There's 1 dev working on a CM7 Kernel and that's about it. More than likely we will never see fully working 4.1.1 or higher on our device. They tried real hard and are some talented people (our devs), but LG handed them a broken pile of excrement and said, "here you go... Jellybeans!!"...

That's almost all true! I have another old phone, Mytouch4g/HTC Glacier. On that one I am running 4.2.2 and there is a lot of development still on. Huge number of ROMs which can be used as daily drivers. But here we don't even have a perfectly working 4.0.4. But again, no complain to Developers. they have tried really hard with a lot of time invested in this device. All the blame on LG.
This phone is lightning fast on 2.3.X variants. still very much usable. I may be late to the party, but the party is yet not over
I just want to chime in that I used this and the phone is working. The camera seems slower (and therefore more blurry). Other than that everything that I use (I do not use bluetooth, tethering, or wi-fi calling) is working. It's about the same speed as CM7 I had on here before. Don't know about battery since I only just did it.
If anyone knows any tricks for the camera please share. I babysit a toddler and his face is often blurry in photos. I'm pretty sure with this new ROM it will be even more blurred. I have already removed the plastic cover over the camera lens, it's not that issue. This is clearly software as it has gotten slower with this ROM.
We thought we might have a jellybean breakthrough when cm started deving cm10.1 on the p990 and had the courtesy of posting a half port of their work in progress. I believe it's called AdamPK's cm10.1 and is usually found with Mazout360 kernel. Hardware Acceleration Work so no camera, camcorder, sluggish or other problems that plagued the hackfests but they ran into and issue with the radio because O2x and G2x use different radio chips. So you have wifi but no data and battery can't be read correctly but other than that it would be as close to a perfect 4.x as we could get.
