[Q] SetCPU and Battery Life - General Questions and Answers

So I recently downloaded SetCPU for my HTC Vivid and I was playing around with it. I was wondering what you guys think about using it for battery savings? Any specific profiles you guys use that work great? I'm trying to prolong the battery life of my device. Flashing a new ROM has helped a lot, but I want to squeeze as much as I can out of it. Is SetCPU really worth using for battery savings or will the extra processing it does to change around the speed cause it to not help me that much?

[Battery] Recommend widgets/apps/roms/packs/anything what could improve O3D's battery
- I found some apps what helps, similar to task killers, but they seems to be abit 'better' in some way, not sure if task killers are actually good, but I will give it a shot for a day or two to see some improvement.
- What about these performance packs, are they really improving performance, if there is such pack out, is it possible to change it to battery saving pack which will lower your performance in exchange for battery life and how long will it last longer if will made such pack?
- Custom ROMs, can they actually increase battery life without killing performance or maybe boosting performance AND battery life? and is there any good ROM out yet for LG Optimus 3D?
- Is it possible to use LG Optimus 2X rom's for LG Optimus 3D?
* TESTING:
- Battery doctor, it's task killer + battery monitor + log/graph for charging etc etc, will try it out and will see how good will it improve battery.

Software can have a great impact on battery life and custom ROMs can help without losing and sometimes even gaining preformance.
There are NO custom ROMs out for O3D, the phone is just a few weeks old, ROMs takes time, O3D will probably take even more time than usually since the 3D is new to the platform and to the once creating alternatives.
However there are things happening on the ROM side but don't ask for a ETA etc since there is no way of telling and people do it on their free time.

Nice to hear that, about performance improvement regarding to losing it.
What about other similar phone ROMs, like Optimus 2X, possible to import that in O3D just to add this 3D space seperate or maybe just make Sense 3.0 with 3D space. I'v heard Optimus 2X is same as Optimus 3D, it's just some features are in 3D, but rest seems to be same as in 2X?
Can someone please post some example of real world use versus battery life, so the people can get a feel how much the battery lasts on average.
Thinking of getting myself a O3D but i am concerned about battery life.

You won't get 24 hours out of the battery I charge mine in the morning so its full at 9 ish and by maybe 9pm it can be around 30% or less but that is best case scenario.
I think if you don't have a car or a way of charging this phone a spare battery is needed to guarantee a full day.
Would be interesting to find out if the 1900mah battery's I seen on ebay make any difference.
I'm trying juice defender right now...

No the 2X or any other phone doesn't have the same hardware, the chipset in O3D is completely new (to the smart-phone scene), some things might work but something that saves battery on the 2X might actually do the opposite to the O3D, but have no fear, in general all Android phones get better at battery handling and performance as new ROMs are released both Official and Custom, also Android itself is getting better and since this is a dual-core phone 2.4 that is said to optimize for dual-core will feel a big gain hopefully
Juice Defender and other battery logs and optimizers made it worse for me. I leave gps and wifi deactivated until i need it,screen brightness on auto. I keep mine loading over night. I leave home at 7am and am back at 6pm with 40-60% left on my battery.moderate use, some calls music email surfing. Im really happy so far!

Just need to be patient. Afterall it is a very new phone.
I am getting the 1800 battery myself. it'll give more juice to the phone. Also if no task killer is used, you will experience a much faster drain in battery. There are tons of apps opened by default. So a task killer with careful plan will gain quite a lot in power saving.
havn't seen alot improvement from battery doctor, but atm waiting on new battery to arrive, will see how long will it take on new battery and is it gona be better then stock one.
also now using juicedefender with aggresive profile, will se how will it boost my battery life

[Q] Question about Kernels

Hi, my Triumph should be arriving in the mail in just a few days and i was wondering which is the best kernel or ROM and Kernel combination that is best for battery life? I've heard that battery life on the Triumph is not so good. Maybe it's false but i would still like to know.

I would go with CM7
That's what i was planning on. Does your Triumph give you battery problems?

The battery life is a lot better now with the latest builds of CM7 and MIUI.
I just use CM7 and leave wifi and bluetooth off, no juice defender or anything like that and I can easily go all day with no charge, typically about a day and a half and my battery is getting low but it really depends on what you are doing like games, wifi, videos and whatnot.
Before I think there was a problem with the battery draining while in idle but things have cleared up since then, There are also third party kernels you can OC and everything, but you can use them to undervolt as well to save some battery if you know what you are doing. over on androidforums there is a lot more chatter about this phone, just so you know.

Thanks. I got my phone today and im loving it so far. Do you know which of those third party kernels are good for battery life and that i can install over stock? I'm not quite ready to install a ROM yet but i already did the HTC Thunderbolt Build.prop tweak and obviously im rooted.
It's usually not the kernel but whatever governor you have it set to use. Even the stock can get improved performance if you switch the governor to such--”performance”--but I'm probably not the guy to tell you about which one is best.
I also have the silly feeling a lot of misconceptions abound here...in the form of ”I changed this setting and now my device lasts longer..., oh btw I no longer play with it 24/7.” In other words, use drastically impacts battery performance. JuiceDefender is an amazing tool but it won't do you a bit of good if you're testing out your phone's Adobe Flash capabilities regularly.

The Savagezen and interactive (not sure if interactive is on any of the kernels for this phone.) gov isn't that great. At least not in my experience. I had SmartassV2 on my girlfriends phone and it got ~3600 on Antutu benchmark at 1.5 and when I used Savage at 1.5 she got ~1700. The interactive gov made my friends Dinc2 noticably slower. Just switching home screens it lagged to the point it was hard to get into the app to change the gov.
CM7 + TheOC kernel allows adjusting voltage & overclock or underclock. You really should flash a CM7 ROM. Having it just rooted can be dangerous because you're not using a custom recovery to make a backup image, and if something messes up, you don't have a backup ROM to restore. Going to a different ROM forces you to make a backup, then there's a backup to restore if you mess things up.
Governors just tell the CPU how fast to ramp up to a certain frequency, & how long to stay there. It's hard to balance fast ramp up (less lag), and low battery drain (spend more time in the lower frequencies). I like interactive/x, find that smartassv2 spends too much time in the mid frequencies (~500) even for light work. Using the app CPU Spy helps a lot to see what's going on. Also it tells you whether your phone is sleeping properly when screen is off, which is a big factor for battery drain.

[Q] to overclock? or not to overclock?

Its it worth the time and sage to overclock the galaxy s2 skyrocket?
I have heard it will ruin the phone our that you can't maker it much faster without overheating it.
I'm new to cell modification and i'm interested in learning
The truth of the mater.
Any help is appreciated.
If you are just normal user than stock is good for u.
BUt if u are heavy gamer and play online games and other stuff OC is worth doin it.
OC will make your phone run some what fast but since you are new i don't think you will feel the difference unless you start doing benchmark. Plus stock might get you good battery life.

The other alternative is to undervolt. Some people will use an overclocked kernel, set it to stock values and lower the voltage of the higher CPU speeds for better battery life.

Thanks for the info really helped me decide if i'm going to overclock. Being i'm just a user and not gaming I think its best I don't. I do like the sounds of underclocking as way to save battery life as phoneguy589 had said. appreciate the input guys.
I under clock mine can't tell a difference honestly
Sent from my pocket rocket
I underclock and undervolted mine, battery life has significantly improved, but I'm a heavy user so its still bad
For my purposes I haven't noticed much difference in OC-ing (I don't do a lot of gaming). For me it's not really worth placing the extra burden on the processor (or the potential to fry the processor--not sure how great that potential is but there are always dangers to overclocking).

[Q] Cyanogenmod/AOKP Kernel

I was wondering which CPU settings / governor everyone else is using on their Skyrocket. I'm running the official CM9 nightlies, and am currently using a 1188/384mhz combo with the conservative governor. Battery life is OK, but isn't as great as it was with Sky ICS. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestion on how to improve it.
Thanks!
i suggest you use the app set cpu. with it you can make profiles that change your cpu level depending on factors like if your screen is off or if your phone is charging. it really helps with battery life

it all about the $$$$
lets see what it will cost me i have a thrill, a sr , do i need another phone ..yes!! but i also need other things too. like food and gas it all about do i have extra capital to drop an a new toy. my partner at work still has a unrooted g1 it makes me sad.
Try testing this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721235
I currently have mine on 192/1512 will see how it goes testing it for a full day but so far its a little less draining than the original (at least for me).

undervolt and underclock ... ?!?

since i use my galaxy s6 for basic stuff , browser viber whatsapp , ebay , amazon , no games at all , can someone help me to undervolt and underclock my phone sisnce i dont need all his power , i like to to it to gain extra batterylife ,
i use arter kernel 8.2 and v11_exposed rom ....
i miss my old experia z3 with 8SOT and 2 days battery life
I get pretty good battery life on mine. Undervolt and underclock is the same thing. I don't understand why u would want to do this to a great phone. Buy a Nokia 3210 you should get loads of battery life and fast enough for you
My stand by time is easily 2 days just using basic things. I do like to use my phone so I do get 1 day which is good enough for me.
Check the wakelocks that should help way more the undervolting

Not the same thing at all! Undervolting is more sensitive and gives better results although very risky!

Ya I understand! I don't see the point in undervolting unless you have heat issues which would make it more stable. I know u can extend your battery life a small bit but its not like u well get days out of your battery by undervolting and underclocking.
The best thing is kill the apps that keeping your phone awake. That would save more battery but at the end of the day you will still be plugging your phone in to charger.
What they need to do is improve battery's
Agree, let your cpu/gpu handle its tasks. For others, maybe they preferred on doing this undervolting stuff etc.
Others wanted to freeze wakelocks, alarms, services just to lower battery usage.
I find it funny LoL *kidding I would not bother buying S6 at the first place if thats how you usually use a phone. But it is your choice
You could opt for units with larger battery capacity but with good SOTs and reviews.
