[Q] Can you help a n00b? avd and xml...

hows it goin guys,
i have two questions:
firstly, what does it take to run a custom rom in the avd? from what i understand i'll need a system image (and probably other files) and a compatible kernel that works with the avd...everything i've found seems to be very phone-specific but i haven't been able to find anything on the infuse
secondly, what file dictates the blue subtext in the main mms window? i cant seem to find it in mms...is it there or in tw/framework?
cheers

Change default view?

Hi
I would like to know how to change the default view, i want to set it in Landscape but i don't know how (i don't want to use launchers) .
Thanks .
Which Rom do you use? Which Phone do you have? etc... I guess we need more information
I have a Huawei u8350 with this rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384145 .
And the problem is : http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/862/u8350.jpg/
At left, how the rom work on my phone.
At right, how it should be .
My screen is large so, it's landscape by default, but the rom is in portrait .
So i need help to change this .( i heard about a file phonewindowsmanager.java but i don't know how to modify it)
Sorry for my poor english .
Haha my english is poor too
So okay the rom you've posted isn't for your device, right?
But anyway the device should display the portrait version - are there any settings for things like that?
If I google "phonewindowsmanager.java" there are only results for other java apps and so on... Do you have a link?
If this don't work you should try a launcher or you could make an own custom rom
The rom is not for my phone but everything on this rom work on my phone, i have tried all and no problems .
I tried ADW and with the screen orientation option, it fix the problem, but not for everything : somethings still displays in portrait like the keylock .
I found this on google by searching "default landscape android" : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...ault-orientation-on-android-i-e-get-landscape
http://boundarydevices.com/blogs/set-android-default-orientation-to-portrait-mode
http://www.mailinglistarchive.com/html/[email protected]/2010-07/msg00037.html
http://e2e.ti.com/support/embedded/android/f/509/t/110119.aspx
I don't realy know how to make custom roms, but if we can just fix this, it will be great : this phone has no custom roms .
thx
Yep, I've tried to find some other roms for your phone but there are no other roms....
" You can look into PhoneWindowManager.java in frameworks. There, orientation can be changed to the either portrait / landscape. "
At my Defy the folder framework is in the folder system - so you could look for this file...
I used ES File manager and didn't found it ...
I found the framework folder, but no phonewindowsmanager in .
So you could try this here http://boundarydevices.com/blogs/set-android-default-orientation-to-portrait-mode - you could copy the file you have to your sdcard and connect your device with your pc and copy the sourcecode into the file - but plz make an backup
I'm not responsible for your phone if you break it

Ok i will try .
Sorry, i'm lost at this, i just don't understand what should i do, can you tell me pls ?
I have the android SDK and Java SDK installed .
If I understand the instructions right, you have to copy the sourcecode from the site into your .java-file and it should work - Open the java-file and edit the function rotationForOrientationLw() like the instructions.
Thanks a lot ! Without your help, i think it was impossible, but now i got it !!!!
I i'm going to test this new modificated rom on my phone, and if it works, this huawei u8350 will have his first rom with your help !

In Personalize...sounds..sound set....add new
It's alright big thanks, it was so simple in fact.
Thanks a lot.
I presume that this is for Sense ROM as my senseless ROM doesnt have this option in settings.
Any idea how to create a soundset with a senseless rom?
I confirm it's for a sense rom i'm with arhd 6.2.1

Hi,
You can also stick the desired ringtone straight into:
system/media/audio/ringtone
Thanks for the replies.
Having copied the ringtone to the system folder I am still getting the default tone after a reboot
I'm facing same issue.
Created custom sound set with my ringtone included, but still after reboot, the default ringtone is selected. See my signature for more info.
make sure its the correct folder there is one that is incorrect. i had the same issue and found i placed them in the incorrect one
Hi everybody, i created a Sound Set but after rebooting or removing my SD Card it keep the main ringtone :/.
So it seems that everyone is only asking the same question with no real answer except for creating your own sound set... and even then people report that it's not working right. And what "correct/incorrect" folder are you talking about?
Found a fix
While trying to find a fix for a ringtones not staying after reboot, I found some info on another problem (custom ringtones disappearing when connected to USB as a hard drive), and the suggested fix worked for our problem!
I got it fixed by copying all the ringtones from sdcard/ringtones and sdcard/media/audio/ringtones into system/media/audio/ringtones (root access required), and changed the permission with the use of ES File Explorer or alike...

[Q] Custom Mod manger

Hi All,
I am working on a custom RoM with specific focus.
So basically i will be taking a standard rom and will be adding some softwares some binaries some terminal related shortcuts and stuff.
Now i had two apporaches for it
1) create a custom ROM for each device.
2) create / user a mod manager which allows for mods which are not incremental in nature and can coexisit independently.
example i release m1 m2 and m3 as 3 Mod packs.
person A might want m1 m3 but not m2
person B might want just m3
person C is happy with just m2
and m1 m2 m3 are completely inependent packages.
Can any one suggest if such a solution exist in the wild I have tried to look at various rom managers but they all work on update mode and not mod mode.
Also using such a system i would like to create zip's which i can install in simmilar fashion to the recovery based update.zip flashing. but in running environment. (considering they are not hurting any running code)
Thanks in advance for help

Interesting project will check it out.
however as far as i can understand it right now its running in recovery mode, I am looking for something which can work when device is running.
If i was not clear before i will give some examples.
I have some apk's and some system mod's
now i want some software which a person can install on his machine and he can securely see the list of items on my server,
he selects i want to install apk.
apk gets downloaded and installed
he selects a system mod
zip file will be downloaded and it will be extracted on /system or / as required and permissions to be setted as listed in a update script on file.
Basically what i am trying to do is to put my mod's and apk's in generalized manner so i don't have to deal with the nittygritties of the android system's on each device. i can directly work on my stuff.
I hope i am clear this time
Now real question ? Is there any such thing in wild?
or am i looking at building something from scratch and if yes what's the cost.

[Urgent] Facing error while creating ROM using dsixda kitchen!

Hello all.
I am somewhat a noob at android development so please deal with me. Anyways skipping right to topic, while using dsixda's kitchen I cooked my base or stock ROM and I got error while deodexing,3 files were not deodexed. Later on I faced error about something of magic header not found at boot. I could not modify a single file using kitchen, couldn't add busy box, root access etc.
Anyway I compiled the ROM and made it flashable zip and got error status 0 from CWM
Sorry I am not knowing much details so I cannot provide exact information. I have few log files I am attaching hope it helps
Please help me to develop my own ROM.
I will once again cook the ROM for generating a step by step error I face and will provide later but if with this log you can help me I'll bee highly grateful.
Also if someone can guide me on how to add features to stock ROM for example when we press voume button we see the icon of the voice decreasing or increasing as per the button pressed in respective environment, I want to add all the 3 options of sound whenever I click the button in any any environment i.e when I press the volume up or down keys I see all the options of call sounds, media sounds, and notification sound. Also I want to add custom battery icon and change toggle icons color and their style and create or edit theme for my ROM. I know you'll say use search but trust me I searched a lot for 2 months constantly ending up in vain.! :"( Please if someone can tell me the best way to do it. I use Xperia SP. Thanks all Please help!
Here is the log file attached.
My device
Xperia SP C5302
Stock ROM JB 4.3 Official
Unlocked bootloader ** ROOTED ** Stock kernel
