One routine I'd like to automate is turning down my volumes at night. A button switch would even be fine. Maybe preferable. Like a widget. I turn down ringer, media and notification volumes every night leaving alarm volume up. Every morning I have to remember to readjust. I've heard of the app Tasker but it seems a little overkill for the adjustments I make. Also not quite financially justifiable. Am I missing something (wouldn't be the first time) in the basic Android system I can use or can anybody recommend a widget or app to do this? Thanks.

I also use llama and like it a lot. However, I've also used Sound Manager v2 by Daniel Roozen that is a bit simpler to use if you just want to schedule volume changes at certain times. But, neither one has a widget that I know of.

Edit: a quick market search shows Quick Audio Settings by matto that appears to have widgets that you can assign to change to specific volume profiles when clicked. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like what you're looking for.

I've used Llama since maybe the day I got this phone. It's an awesome app, a great free alternative to tasker, and very powerful if you learn how to use it (which is not hard to do).
Thanks everybody. I'd downloaded Sound Manager v2 earlier today and am giving it a try tonight. Very simple to setup. I guess I really don't want a widget. Set it and forget it is better. Lots of votes for llama here. If this doesn't work out I'll check that out.

Yeah llama is more complex than I need right now. I need something real simple. For now at least. Thanks again for the recommends. I don't know how I missed these apps before. Probably searching for "volume" and "control" instead of something like "volume schedule".

This looks like exactly what you asked for, a widget, when you touch one of the corresponding icons (ringtones/music/alarm/notifications, etc) a pop up volume control comes out and you can adjust the volume accordingly. And it's free too, the link for it I posted above.
Thanks for that 916x10. I've reconsidered the whole widget idea. I prefer a setting tweak that runs automatically. I have very basic needs for this and Sound Manager v2 fits quite nicely. I do appreciate the recommendation.

Understandable...something you don't have to remember, it just does it when you want it to do it. That's the route I'd go too. I'm gonna check out that SM app, see if I can put it to use.

It's not the most intuitive app I've used. Make sure when you set an on/off schedule to then apply all schedules from the main menu. Otherwise the last schedule you make kicks in as default regardless of the time its set for. Hope that makes sense. If not there's a tutorial and a FAQ. Other than that its working flawlessly for me. Its a very small footprint as well.

Oh and I'm pretty sure "system" sound in the app = alarm. All other volume language is the same as Android.

Added button to change ringer state: Silent, Vibrate, Normal
NOTE: You cannot change ringer/notification levels with the widget if ringer state is in Silent or Vibrate. You will notice the icons fade out.
Enjoy!
Hey everyone. I developed a small widget to quickly change volume levels for media, ringtone, notification, and alarm. I find myself wanting to turn media volume on/off all the time, and I couldn't find a good solution in the Market, so I made my own.
You can download it from the Market. Just search for Mission Control. There is an SD version (G1, Hero, etc), and an HD version (Evo, Nexus, etc).
If you guys find any bugs or have suggestions for it, just let me know. This is my first Android app, so please be gentle.

Nice, could you use some iPhone icons by any chance?
Nice handy little app. I just downloaded from the market and put it on one of my panels. I like the three level toggles. this will be great when at the theater or a meeting and want to turn everything off really quick.
Thanks for the app!

The control panel is non-functional at the moment. My plans are to use it to allow a user to fully customize a button to do anything they want, along with choosing any icons they want as well.

I looked around for some good iPhone-style icons, but couldn't find any that I liked. I'll continue to search and see what I can come up with.
Only other thing I would like to see, is when you press one of the toggles that it changes your phone settings to vibrate, silent, etc.

GREAT looking app! Only problem, when using it (HD) with launcher pro (on EVO), the widget gets disbled when going into cascade mode. i don't know if it has anything to do with my phone having "Sense" banned (using DC 3.2.3) or the devopment of the widget just doesn't have cascade support yet.

Can we get this ported to the EVO?
Just the .apk would work, right? the DX's sms app looks so much better than any i've seen on any other phone. I'd love to have it.
give me some love, guys
+1 on this, but if im not mistaken this should go in the apps section
PM a Mod and ask them to move this to theming it'll get more attention there
+1 I can't stand the Sense mms app. Actually, I thought IncredibleDoes was developing a Droid X rom for the EVO and Incredible...
well it's been moved and other people are in agreeance, but it seems XDA isn't ever too keen to help someone out
I would like to see this as well since Handcent does not work well anymore on the EVO, its very very slow n it lags.

First of all, XDA doesn't do anything. That is simply the forum. It's the developers, many of them with jobs, kids and other responsibilities, that give up their time to help you. So at ease.
Secondly, if you had taken the time to do some googling, instead of posting a new whine every couple hours, you MIGHT have found: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/04/15/download-new-mms-apk-with-custom-settings/
EDIT1: Also, with a little more digging, i found the original APK from the droid x. http://rapidshare.com/files/431493880/Mms.zip
Anyone using this also getting fc when trying to change the font size ?
I was looking for this this morning. Well either this or the Vibrant/Galaxy S one. They're both similar. The Sense mms.apk is actually really good, it's just super slow.
For now I'm using Handcent with squared off chat bubbles and the Hero theme:

Are u experiencing any lag with handcent?? Like when the message is received it takes like 5-10 seconds longer till the phone notifys me even tho im viewing the message thro the quick reply screen.
Everything seems normal. But there are some things you have to change. In send settings, you have to tell it to split messages or ones longer than one text wont go through. Set it to "split by word" for the best results.
Also, disable the lockscreen popup if you have the stock sense loclscreen since it wont work and will wakelock your phone. And lastly, disable the lockscreen from turning on your screen so it doesn't turn on in your pocket.

You can add up to 10 shortcut keys on the unlock screen. So, top left corner is camera, top right camera is LED flashlight, left middle is notes, right middle is google voice, bottom left is unlock andd buttom right is to silence it.
Oh and you can add widgets on the screen so i added a calendar widget.
I love this app and its really worth the money, being able to access some of these apps right from the screen is real convinient, especially the camera and flash light.
The only issue i've run into is that if you turn it on and off real quick, it will show the stock slide to ulock screen, and sometimes it will go back to the original slide to unlock screen, at this point you would just click on widget locker again to start it up.
Overall great app!

Also, if you notice in the vid, when I turn it on from sleep mode, it shows the stock slider, thats because turn it off and on within 3-5 seconds, it will show the stock slider.
Cheers for that i'm sold.
Just downloaded it.
Awesome!

Widgetlocker is like quickdesk not like extended controls. You can customize your lock screen with widgets, shortcuts, toggles, apps, weather, etc..etc..

Also I've been talking to the dev of NoLED trying to resolve the conflict between the two apps. Not solved yet though.

I had the issue when I was using CM7 nightly ROm with Netarchy 1.2.2 kernel. But I was also having other issues such as the lockscreen spontaneously coming on and off. The lockscreen on/off was happening even when i disabled widget locker . so I dont think it was the app.
Since I flashed another kernel, it seems to have resolved.
Hope that helps.
I dunno if this is pretty well-known or not, I do see a few threads in the Galaxy S II section, but I figured I'd let more people know since I just randomly found this on the market.
For those looking for a replacement to their stock lockscreen(and those craving the Honeycomb Lockscreen), SunPengfei brings us Ripple Lock on the Android Market!

There's a bit of customization that can be done and so far everything's worked pretty well for me. You can change the font color, style, and size. There's the ability to have app shortcuts as well.
The free version does sport an ad at the top, but there is a paid version you can buy. I'll stick to the free version myself, just waiting until the quality is a little better, but who knows, I might just purchase it anyways. It's only a buck and some change.
I think it's a great compliment to any honeycomb theme out there.
P.S. Would this be better in Themes? I dunno.

Yeah I thought about that, I've been all over my phone messing with Go Launcher and stuff, so I can't give a good reading, but I'll probably charge to full later and I'll take a look.
If anybody else decides to try it out, let us know!
I ran it for a few hours then it became very unreliable.
Sent from my X10x using XDA Premium App
I had it for a week or so, and noticed it unreliable too (2.2.2)
Its pretty, and more convenient to "unlock" being able to drag the circle any-which-way you want... but meh.
Doing ok for me so far, but I'm hoping for updates to make it more reliable as well. I did read a few comments with some gripes, but I think it's got potential.
What ended up happening with it for you guys? Was it that 'double lock' thing?
The circle would get "stuck". Had to cycle the lockscreen (via power button) a few times to get it to reset and work. Also found it sluggish at times.
Overall, I thought it was good, if those problems were not there.. but at the end of the day, if its eating even a moment of extra battery, its simply not worth it for me.

Works very well on my SGSII. Looks awesome with HC theme.
Make sure none of the app shortcuts are broken, define a background image and make sure to set ALL options.
it wasn't until I did that that it started working good. REAL good. now I can have my camera loaded up faster than my stock lockscreen would unlock on my DX2
much faster and more useful than stock 2.2 lockscreen.
the honeycomb lockscreen from lockbot is better...
Works well except for the power button not turning the phone back on. Have to push the volume buttons to get the phone turned on to unlock.
Nexus S 4G with CM7 nightly.
You can also use lockbot, I'm not trying to troll but I've used both lockscreen replacements and lockbot seems more like the original honeycomb lockscreen. There is a free and pro version.
Check it out.

EDIT: ok, so, using for a couple hours, i really hate the fact that the volume buttons will turn on the screen on. and, if i don't have it silenced, beep. Its really annoying, and i may end up just uninstalling it if it bugs me too much.
Free version is compatible with the Dell Streak, but paid version is not. I bought the paid version while using a captivate for a couple of days and when I went back to my Streak could not install the paid version. I ask the dev about it and sent information verifying my purchase and the response was that it is Google's fault. Won't fix the issue and won't refund.
Edit: I am on a stock ROM, so it's not because of some strange configuration.
Hi everyone!
I made a replica of the watch from the pause menu in GoldenEye 64 for my SmartWatch using an app from the Play Store and 3 simple .png files.
Thought I would share in case I wasn't the only person who thought it was kinda cool haha!
The app you need is this... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kaybit.smartwatch.customwatch&hl=en_GB
Then download the attached .rar file, unpack and copy to somewhere on your phone. I copied them all over in a folder so that once it was all set up, I could add a .nomedia file to the folder so the files wouldn't show in the Album.

[Tutorial]
Im sure you can all work it out, it's quite simple but just in case you need a little guidance here it is
Install the Custom SmartWatch app.
Once installed open its settings from your SmartWatch app list.
Tap on "SmartWatch 2 Settings".
Tick "Custom Ananlog Clock"
Tap "Create Custom Analog Clock"
Tap "Backgroundimage", search for the GoldenEye Background.png file and open it.
Tap "Hourhandimage", search for the GoldenEye Hour Hand.png file and open it.
Tap "Minutehandimage", search for the GoldenEye Minute Hand.png and open it.
That's it, however I also opened the "Battery Settings" and ticked "Activate Low Power Mode" so that the screen dims to grey scale to save power. You can have the watch display in colour all the time but the battery will last less than a day.
This app will automatically open itself on the watch if left idle so it replaces the stock clock app, and you'll still receive your notifications. Just tapping the screen will bring back the colour and light, pressing the home button will exit out to use other apps. You'll have to get used to doing that instead of pressing the power button like you would with the stock clock app because this is technically a running app and pressing the power button on the watch will close it and bring back the stock clock.
Enjoy!
[UPDATE] After using my GoldenEye design for a few days I noticed that when you tap the screen to make it light up again to read it and show the colour of the background, it took quite a few seconds. After contacting the developer of the Custom SmartWatch app and talking to him over the last couple of days, he has been amazing and updated the app to better support this kind of design.
The app now has a few more options under "Battery Settings" and if you enable "Monochrome Mode" and the "Faster Screen On" settings, the clock will still dim to grey scale saving battery, keep the background visible but will light up a lot quicker after tapping the screen. Feels far more responsive!
Credit to Kaybit for his awesome app!

Yeah it's a pretty cool app, I had it with my SmartWatch 1 but it was never as customisable as this. I noticed that it had been given an update and tried out the new options and ended up with this. To be honest if you have even just a little Photoshop knowledge the possibilities are endless!
Nice one keyz86 - thanks for the files!

Going to take a look at this later. Looks really good. Thanks for sharing both the app and your own design.

This is pretty cool man! Nice to see this sort of thing going on over here - we can't let those Pebblers have all the fun now can we?! It's just a shame that notifications don't appear as normal using a custom watch face but obviously, the finger is aimed at Sony for that.
Well done bud, this is definitely something I will be showing my friends ha ha

If you need an idea... How about a Star Trek LCARS style watch face!
This is AWESOME! Is it possible to use a digital clock display instead?
I installed it, it works when I tap the screen, then it goes to low-power mode for half a second, then blank screen. What can I set so it stays in low-power mode?

Maybe you need to uncheck Monochrome Mode in Battery Settings?
