ROM: ExtremeSensation - HTC Sensation

Since the developer chose to be arrogant and purposely omit English (US) from the ROM... uninstalling. Too bad. Looks like it could have been nice.

Thx for the info

Really? I was thinking about using it too! I've come across that on a few roms and thought it was just like that. They always have UK (English) but not US. I'll be more careful cause that's eeffed up

Ever thought it's due to the base ROM being an EU (e.g. non-US) ROM? This would mean no US English (which we all know isn't real English anyway!! )
You can just use apps to enable other locales if you're that bothered

Oh bloody hell! . I've thought that too but I'm sure on all language packs that comes with different roms. I'll even use the bloody UK version on some roms, but with my butchered English it's hard to understand some of those British words! Lol! Thanks for the info Eddy

EU ROMs are fine. Over the years I've tinkered with them before. This is the first time I've come across one where a significant English language package was seemingly omitted on purpose. It's not a matter of being "bothered"; I'm simply choosing not to support a work that the developer has chosen to introduce what appears to be his personal politics into.

Chances are it's not in the ROM in the first place. Boot the ROM after a full wipe WITHOUT your SIM card and you'll get the full list of available languages

or just take a look into system/customize/CID/default.xml
and no en_US is NOT there by default but there is a way to add it.
Also thanks to the OP for pointing this out, I thought it had US in in the first place so I didnt check until now

No one says you HAVE to install a different ROM. If you can do it better please let us know and share it! I think everybody who's creating things like programms or custom ROM's deserves to be treated with respect!
The only thing most people do is install it and wine about everything. My advice, stick with your current ROM!

Actually I share the opinion from kremo. The PDAMobiz people are some sort of pioneers in throwing out new ROMs and it would be nice if they would release "virgin" ROMs with the real stuff on it and not dump all kind of junk into it. I for my own would prefer an "virgin" ROM myself rather than one that contains a lot of crap that I won't want to use.
totally agree, let us decide what junk we want. surely it would be eaiser to test a rom if it was clean, with all this on the instability and bits that dont work could be down to any of the 101 things they have installed.
So what's the problem. Just restart your device before instal of the "crap" begins. I always do thatand after that I instal what I like from the extended rom.
Isn't there just an easy way to remove all the crap before installing and placing your cabs in there yourself?
Can't be too hard can in?
Myself I'm 'somewhere in between', I also like a clean rom more than a filled one. But then again, they make the rom so they can put in anything they like. If you want a clean rom, just wait for a modded one or clean it yourself.
As for the aku 3.3, I suppose it's interesting. Any news on what's changed and stuff? Might give this stuff a try later on if I can get it and have the time
problem is the crap isnt in the extended rom, if it were then i would be more than happy cleaning it up myself, the stuff is embedded and in many cases cant even be uninstalled.

Like mentioned before, you probalby have to make a request to become a Beta tester. We'll just have to wait a while
That is my big problem too!!!!!
I'm staying in Thailand my native language is Thai but I have never installed that PDAMobiz ROM. I sincerely respect their effort, read their new update, keep in touch, but search from here for the clean one (thanks to lvsw, Jesterz... for the clean ROM I use so far). I have never complained anything about junk soft in PDAMobiz board, here neither because I know that there is the argument we usually see all the time... "if you don't like, make it yourself". Yes I'm the one who wanna be a cooker but I know my potential. I did something as much as I can but it's just only the bug reporter level.
Just my 2 cents
Hi,
1) All customised ROMs are not official. They are usually based on official or customised ROMs for other type of device. They may have some bugs. Even the official ROMs do have bugs.
2) When people customise their ROMs, they modify the ROMs in some way to make them work for their devices. They may also put anything in the ROMs to their liking. What do you really mean by a clean ROM ??? is it the official ROM clean ? Diferent ROM vendors make different ROMs even for the same type of device. Some do not include many extra programs, but some do.
Do you complian about the extra (junk) things the ROM vendors put in their ROMs???
3) The main reason people embed things in the ROM is to save the device storage space. What is in the ROM is not taking any usable space of your device. The more things you put in the ROM, the more usable space you have available for other to-be-installed programs.
4) If you do not like programs embedded in the ROM, just do not use them. If they are not loaded, they are not running, the ROM has kind of the same state of that does not have them embedded in the ROM at all.
Even they are embedded in the ROM, you still have a choice to load them or not, without uninstalling them.
Again just my 2 cents

The official ROMs might have bugs no doubt, but they are official. Whenever we find some bugs we can report them or the service providers help desk can confirm whether they are bugs or not.

If people make their own customized ROMs then its ok, but please stop pulling all kind of junk ROMs to the public and have experimental users brick their PocketPC's. In my former times as PALM User and Developer we only had official ROMs from PALM. There was just official 3.0, 3.1, 3.5, 4.0, 4.2 ROMs.
There is also a difference between extra junk put into ROM by my service provider that is required for proper functioning in germany for example (like correct emergency numbers 110, 112 rather than 991) or having it filled up with 50 other junk tools like PDAMobiz does.
I don't care much for PDAMobiz, when you go to their site you see their tamagochi and pokemon mentality. They have simply a different mentality and philosophy doing their business.

A 2gb SD card can be bught for 30 Euros these days. So this kind of argument is quite bull****. There remains enough RAM for the programs to execute. A ROMs place should stay what it is. The place for ROM. Not just that even PDAMobiz seems to be altering a lot of Microsoft stuff like patching around in the registry, putting their logo in the loader and add all their tamagochi and pokemon junk everywhere.
All I (and most others want) is a clean Microsoft ROM pulled down from a phone next to you with all the AKU 3.3 stuff applied to it. Then pack it together in a clean ROM and be it.
4) If you do not like programs embedded in the ROM, just do not use them. If they are not loaded, they are not running, the ROM has kind of the same state of that does not have them embedded in the ROM at all.

I don't want to use them but I also don't want to see them. Sorry for my somehow rough words here but it's how I see it.
Don't be so rough on cutomized ROMs. Some people like them, some people don't. It's up to you to decide whether to use them or not.
Bricking a phone is 100% up to the user of the device not the maker(s) of the cutomized ROM. When updating you should know you are taking a risk and should read loads of information on how to update before doing that.
When I read about people bricking their phones with a G3 rom while they have a G4 always makes me feel sorry for them, but on the other side can make me 'angry' why they just didn't take the time and properly read the forums here and gather all the needed info.
But all in all, customized roms are fun. You don't like all the crap they put in? Change it! Customize your own rom... but be careful though, because you need to know what you are doing. Put in some effort.
And don't forget, customized roms are made by volunteers for free. This can be a good thing or a bad, but that's up to everyone to decide for themselves.
imho there just shouldn't be an argument about this at all, it's what this forums is all about as long as I've been reading/using them. Customizing roms, trying to put upgrades in them, making them better. And it's the 'making them better' is what changes from dev to dev.
any of us finding the PERFECTIN in this world?
why don't we find the PLEASING

Cooking using official Orange ROM as a base?

Hi Folks,
I'm pretty sure I'm going to get burnt asking this, but I can't find the answer anywhere.....help!
I've flashed planty of ROMs before (and really appreciate the effort from the folks cookin' 'em) but never 'cooked' my own.
I've got an Orange Branded TyttnII, so I tried the official 6.1 ROM they released recently. I actually really like it and it performs well.
There are a few really annoying things about it though. Like the version of HTCs homescreen they ship doesnt have the music tab, there are apps they install that I'm never going to use etc. etc.
So, I'd love to take the original update (or RUU_signed.nbh from it), pull it apart and make it my own.
I've read and watched everything I can find about cooking and I've done nothin but turn my brain to useless mush....
Please, could someone tell me (or point me in the right direction to find) how I can take this RUU_signed.nbh and rip things (packages, I guess?) out?
Thanks in advance!

A technical question about i900 Omnia

I have a question for you technological advanced who have some info about the i900 Omnia.
Does this phone have a default or optional English setting if you buy it in another country? The reason I ask is that I am living in Germany and I understand German pretty well but I dont want to fry my brain always trying to figure out complicated configurations in another language.
There are english Roms and there may be German Roms. Take a look on Modaco.com

Ok, is it difficult to install? Is it possible to back up the original? Does it matter which English ROM you use?
They don't include any other roms or default languages on the installation cd?
I have no experience in this department. I am quite new to WM phones in general. I have been a loyal Palm Treo (Palm OS) user for many years and I want to make the transition because of the wider range of abilities and software available out there.
Can someone give me some experiences about how easy it is, etc...I have absolutely no reference or clue in this department.
Does this include all WM phones?
Unfortunately the I900 is still fairly new, so there is not a whole lot to learn about it.
Flashing should be easy. I have flashed mine a number of times to test out th different ROMs. Currently I have HH2 installed (HH2== second release for August)
The process is very simple if you have XP. If you have vista, I think that you may be in trouble. I have not successfully gotten anywhere with Vista aside from the Samsung certified ROM from July.
With XP, you just:
- Install samsungModem_xp.zip
- download an installable .exe. it should be soomething like I908ZNHH2_XP.rar and it will extract to a single .exe. You just charge your phone, turn it off, then run the exe, plug in the phone, turn it on and it will be detected. Then press the button to start the install and do not touch anything for about 5 minutes or until it is happy.
Notes:
- Do not use grandPrix unless you know what you are doing, it can cause real problems. Only use full Roms (These com as .exe's rather than as .bin's)
- Sometimes things go wrong for no apparent reason. When in doubt, retry.
- The "Safest" rom seems to be DXHH1.
- The fastest/more free memory ROM seems to be ZNHH2.
(The first two letters indicate which country it came from).
- I had to flash HH2 twice to get all of the free memory that it offers. I have no idea why, but it worked and I got back 30 meg.
I908 is the same as I900. (It is for southest Asian markets but the hardware is the same.)
Thanks pidsw
Thanks for the tips pidsw. I really appreciate it. I am definitely at a learning curve when it comes to wm phones being an old Palm OS Treo user.
It doesn't sound so complicated. Does it matter what English rom I use? I have seen so many things floating around, I am not sure which one to use?
Does the rom include all of the software that comes with the phone?
Last question for now (because the rest doesnt make sense for another 3 weeks, because that is when my contract is up and I will order my new phone), where is a good site to get this program? and the English roms?
Fortunately, I have both operating systems on 2 different computers, so XP wont be a problem (I have a home computer with XP sp2).
Thanks a lot for your time. Thanks from a future i900 user.
There are generally three types of ROMS:
- Manufacturer ROMs
- Carrier Branded ROMs
- "Cooked" ROMs
If you get your phone from a Carrier (i.e. T-Mobile) you will have a carrier branded ROM. These are often the worst - Carriers tend to put a lot of extra junk into the ROM and/or restrict functionality of the ROM and/or require your to pay for certain services (such as tethering your phone to your laptop or computer in order to get an Internet connection).
Right now there are a lot of Manufacturer ROMs out there. If you have an I900 and you are located in Germany, I would only use Roms that begin with "I900" or "I908" (these are the same hardware and they use the same cellular bands).
I907 Roms will work better in North America, but they will not support 3G in germany.
I908E roms are for China. I believe that these use different cell bands, so I would avoid them.
The most active sight in English right now is Modaco. Here is a link to their Omnia message board:
http://www.modaco.com/category/342/i900-omnia-http-i900-modaco-com/
There are direct download links to ROMs here and the Samsung XP modem drivers. (they are hard to find on Samsung's site, you have to really look hard)
As far as which ROM is best, I suggest that you always read the reviews prior to installing any ROM. Whenever a ROM is posted, you will see a lot of reviews in the same thread.
I tend to go for the latest ROM's whenever possible as these tend to be the fastest and they tend to have the most functionality and are usually the most stable. In some ways they are like driver updates (in fact they include driver updates and OS updates).
Cooked ROM's are pieced together based on the preferences of the "Chef". Some are "lighter", giving you more free memory and more room to install your own software, while others have lots of preconfigured apps on them which can be convenient. It seems like most of the good chefs are on here or PPCGeeks.com. Right now there are very few Omnia chefs, but I expect that this will change dramatically within a month or so.
Right now I am using a Manufacturers ROM (I908ZNHH2 for Hong Kong). It seems faster (the phone is so fast it is hard to tell) and it definitely has more free memory than the last ROM that I had installed (I900DXHH1). When I first got my phone, it had an older ROM on it (not sure the version #) which was worse in many ways. It surprises me that when people review a phone, they often do not know what ROM it has installed. This can make a huge difference for new phones as the phones are often released before the ROMs available are "Mature"
I appreciate your support pidsw
Hi pidsw,
Thanks for all your support. I really appreciate it. It helped to ease my fears and I will definitely be getting this phone in a few weeks.
I am also grateful for all of the insight. As far as branded phones go, I definitely wouldn't touch one with a 10' pole. Fortunately I can buy them through an online vendor here in Germany that sells them in connection with a cellphone provider, so I don't have to worry about that mess.
My last question to you, does it matter which English ROM I use? I see all of these codes (e.g. DXHH1, being for Singapore, etc). Or will any English ROM do? What would you recommend to a new i900 & wm user?
Thanks and I will come back to you and everyone here on this site in a few weeks when I get my cool new upgrade.!!!
Great support here!
This is all great information! I also wanted to know a couple things before I upgrade my rom... I think mine was from Singapore when they just released it... it may be their 2nd or 3rd update. I downloaded the XP modem driver and the latest rom image from the site you listed, Modoco.com. My question is that I normally sync on my Dell laptop that runs Vista, but my wife has an XP machine. Can I just connect it and do what you listed above to flash it, or do I need to install the latest activesync on the XP machine first? Also, I use AT&T and the EDGE network. When I flash, will I be able to get the settings again to work with my sim card (which came from my US iphone)? Finally, if I made a backup of my programs running on my current rom version, after flashing, can I restore the old image back without any corruption or problems? I used SPB Backup to create an .exe backup file. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any Mandarain/Chinese custom WM 6.5 rom available??

Hi all, I haven't been up to date and keeping up with the scene lately (I'm now using a newer phone, Nokia N900). So ya i haven't been using my Touch Pro all that much..........so forgive me for asking some stupid or noob questions
U see, my mom needs a phone just like the Touch Pro with the slide out keyboard that can type/txt in mandarin. And since my Touch Pro was purchased in Taiwan, the keyboard naturally has the mandarin characters on it, and since i'm not using it anymore i thought i'd give it to her.
But I remembered using the phone for the very first time, the stock rom was slow and crap. That's y I installed EnergyRom on it, and since i prefer english then it doesn't affect me. BUT as for my mom, her english sucks balls, so now i'm left with 2 options, either restore it back to the stock Taiwanese rom, or try to find a custom rom with chinese support......
I would prefer the 2nd option, because the sole reason y i found this forum and got into all these custom roms, is coz they're just so much better. I love EnergyRom for the speed and pure awesomeness, so would prefer if i can use a custom rom that has chinese support.
By chinese support, I mean using the keyboard to type chinese. I know there are programs like CEStar etc but those are slow and my mom wants to use the keyboard to txt instead of using the stylus or software keyboard.
So ya, does anyone know any chinese custom rom?? I already Googled for the past 20 mins and found none, i did find a few chinese forums but all their custom roms are just copied from here........
Lastly, what does "WWE" mean?? I saw a few topics with that in their title, but forgot what it means.
Update:
I'm about to download the stock rom coz i might decide to use it, but then i read something important in the middle of the page. It seems it'll change the radio version as well, is that possible??
Can someone please confirm this?? Coz i remembered the radio version of the stock rom sucked, that's why i changed it to a different one and is also one of the main reason y i installed a custom rom.
Also, i can't exactly remember the process of setting up your phone so that you can get it ready to install custom roms. All i can remember is something about the HardSPL?? So my question is, is it possible that if you install the stock rom, it'll restore the HardSPL back to the factory settings and everything else that was modified?? I.e, will i have to reinstall all that crap again?? Or is ROM the only thing that will be changed?? I'm just kinda unsure about this since the radio version might be changed, and i'm not sure if i can change it back to the one I want after installing the stock rom........
Here's the page if anyone can read chinese/taiwanese:
http://www.htc.com/tw/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=140&cat=2&dl_id=527
BTW, i did find a lot of custom chinese roms, and one of them is even THE SAME as EnergyRom, which is the June 19th 2010 build, it looks EXACTLY the same except that it's in chinese......most of the roms are very up to date, mostly updated to June 2010, and I actually just installed one of them and it's got chinese fonts alright, the output works fine and all but the hardware keyboard output doesn't work, it's still in english and doesn't output the corresponding chinese character that you type on the keyboard. So ya i'm still looking for solutions if anyone's got any.
Edit:
I found this thread and it has the language pack for Taiwanese (but the link is dead). I'm not sure how to use it though............can someone plz help?

List of very simple questions.

Helloes
Okey:
HTC Desire (nordic) retail.
Want Froyo, had my device for too long so already bored.
Rec. for rom if you desire to add that in, since i'm searching around to find the best out there. found a couple high rated.
Language:
Since my friends do talk norwegian i was wondering if i can get T9 language in norwegian, I really dont care about the UI since i dont use Norwegian UI language.
Make a backup image of the ROM which is scandinavian retail image, if it exist or is it possible to make one, searched around and cant say I got any smarter.
More isnt there to it. I am looking forward to unlocking my phone, getting rid of all the sense uselessness.
