"PG58DIAG" and "No Img or Wrong IMG" - HTC Sensation

Hello folks!
First off I hope this problem hasn't been posted previously since I searched and couldn't find it.
I have on my HTC sensation the Android Revolution _HD-Sensation_3.6.11 or 3.6.2 I for some reason have two on my computer and can't remember which one I put in. The phone's HBOOT is 1.17.1111 and I can't remember when I put that update in either. My concern is that I want to update the software as I'm noticing some issues with the phone again and so downloaded the Android Revolution HD 6.5.1 for HTC Sensation from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
Upon putting said zipped file in SD card and going into bootloader it t says the message above: "Loading...[PG58DIAG.zip] No img" and below that: "Loading...[PG58DIAG.nbh] No img or Wrong img" It repeats like that on the screen. I remember having this issue before as well when I updated the phone last, so I downloaded, as I was instructed to, "PG58IMG" and mounted it on the SD card. It fixed the problem then, so doing it again this time it didn't fix the problem for me. First off, I hope I have the correct ROM as trying to search for the updated version of the ROM I have I was unsuccessful in. So then I decided let's do this since it has ICS. I appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance.

Are you running the latest firmware ? 3.32 is needed for ARHD 6.5.1
Also, you said you where using [PG58DIAG.zip] It should be PG58IMG i think you maybe using the wrong file,
Im still a noob, i only had this sensation 2 days so i maybe wrong.

HBOOT 1.17.1111 will work with GB ROMs but not ICS ROMs.
You need to flash the appropriate firmware and as stated PG58IMG.zip is the correct filename on the SDcard. After flashing pop out the card while it boots up reinsert the SDcard and delete/rename the PG58IMG.zip file.
Look in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 for the firmware. I've seen folks posting problems with the most recent firmware but haven't followed them.
I guess Mike's ARHD thread should have firmware in it with some guidance.

Here is an excellent noob friendly guide from joaquinf. It's made for ARHD 6.5.1. It has all the steps to upgrade Your firmware to 3.32 and flashing ARHD 6.5.1 / 6.5.1 xe.

Good sir or madame?, thank you quite very much. I have visited the link and it all seems quite easy. I also understand the mistake I have made. I will be working on the flash possibly tomorrow when I have more time at hand to do it all. I also appreciate your feedback along with the link.

One last question if I may, I noticed on the threads that there were apps and even built in features which would back up my phone, including my sms text messages. Now I'll follow the advice on the thread and remove sim card for the just in case (but since all contacts are synced to Google account it won't matter), what I really wanna back are all my text message conversations, not even so much the apps themselves as I can always re-download them later on. I want to back up my music playlist as well if it's possible at all. I know I'll have it all on my SD card, but the playlists are all on the phone itself and that is what I really want to back up. I thank you all once again for all the feedback as well as the help provided, wish me luck for I'll be at it tomorrow.

There are two main backup methods:
1 Nandroid Backup/Recovery. You do this via your recovery, e.g. CWM. This is a whole phone backup.
2 An app like Titanium, with this you can backup and recover apps and their data individually. If you go down this route DO NOT restore any system apps if you change ROMs as it'll cause problems. Restoring your downloaded apps and data is fine. You can "probably" restore some system data, like SMS. Before you recover any system data DO A NANDROID BACKUP first so if it screws up anything you can just restore the phone to its previous state.

Use SMS Backup & Restore or SMS Backup+ for backup Your SMS.
I think titanium backup is suitable for music playlists.

Sensation stuck on boot
Hey guys, So I initiated flash today and have come across a slight problem;
I followed the guides on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21711154#post21711154
and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21989107
I saw that the first thing to have done was install 4ext recovery. I followed the read me and tried the "adb reboot bootloader" but it kept saying device not found. Then I noticed I had it already in my phone, so I ran the backup and it said back up complete. So then I turned off the phone, rebooted into bootloader and waited for the update. However, it said "error invalid CID and can't update. Press power to reboot" It was the only option given. So then, I followed the guide on Kohr-Ah's page and took out the SD card, rebooted into bootloader, went to Recovery, ran superwipe and installed ARHD 6.5.1 with Beats Audio. After everything went done and well, it rebooted and turns on but once the beats logo completes its circle, it gets stuck on the beats page. I ran the wipe again, and reinstalled ARHD and still gives the same result. Any body know how I can solve it?
I also forgot to say that when I try to install the PG581IMG (the firmware) it says:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update package...
Installation aborted.

So I Unlocked (and Updated) A Branded Hero G2... Sort of...

Many moons ago I picked up a cheap HTC Hero G-2 with a T-Mobile logo on it's frontface (slightly above the screen).
Looks like this:
coolestgadgetsandgizmos.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/u1.jpg
(It was unlocked and accepts my o2 SIM.)
It was running Android OS 1.5 according to the "About" section in the phone settings.
I had no problems with this version of the OS but I wanted to try the new stuff, especially the Live Wallpapers. (kotaku.com/5574526/watching-super-mario-gameplay-as-an-android-desktop)
So I did the Gold Card tutorial and run an unbranded .exe updater.
(Pretty sure it was named RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe which is 101 meg)
The update went smoothly and the phone works fine (with my o2 SIM) but the About section in my phone still says 1.5 and there's no indication that anythings changed at all. (Other than my icons being rearranged and my apps gone.)
Anyone got any idea or links to pages showing me where I can easily update to 2.1 or 2.2?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, the ROM you have downloaded is only 1.5.
Im not allowed to post a direct link but if you visit my twitter @richiemonks0 there is a link to ezhero v5, which is my preferred rom at the moment, its android 2.1 and is fast and stable, also on my twitter is a download for a black theme for it which looks nice IMO.
On a side note, i wouldnt bother yet with a 2.2 rom for the hero as they are still in the development stages ATM so not stable.
Ok, thanks for the fast reply.
It's downloading now.
You don't happen to know where I can find a step-by-step guide for this do you?
(There's a lot of preparation steps, new Radio, Nandroid etc.)

No problem,
A step-by-step guide for what exactly. Your phone is already rooted by the sound of it.
You need a recovery image to be able to flash the ROM. Id recommend amon_RA recovery, all this info can be found at theunlockr.com (rooting, flashing a recovery image and flashing the rom)
You dont 'need' a new radio, its optional.
Also once you flashed ezhero, flash the black theme, looks ace
Hope this helps
Yes, it's helping - thanks.
At the moment I'm reading about "flashing a rom". If I understand it right, I copy over the .zip to the SD card, name it Update.zip and run it whilst the phone is in recovery mode?
(Do this for both the radio zip and then the EzHero zip?)
Sorry i didnt reply last night,
Do a nandroid backup first, then wipe everything,
Flash the ezhero first, then the radio.
You dont need to remame it to update.zip, it will work as it is.
Put the .zip on the root of you SD card (not in any files or folders)
swith phone off, hold the home button and then press power.
Keep hold of the home button until the recovery menu pops up.
Now your in recovery, Nand backup (very important) then wipe then flash exhero.zip from sd card. once finished reboot. EZHero installed
If you want to flash the radio get into recovery, nand backup but NO wipe, then flash the radio.zip from SD.
Job done, then flash the black theme.zip (optional)
Need any more help then PM me cuz xda dont have any notifications so i might miss the post, thanks for the folllow on twitter

Inspire 4G Reverting on boot

I have a really strange issue and I've done everything I can think of to fix it to no avail. I'm hoping someone here can give me a few pointers.
I'm working on a Inspire 4G for someone. The issue is that the phone reverts to a specific state no matter what I do. For example, if I wipe the phone, the phone boots back up to Froyo with all of his stuff on it. If I try loading an RUU or IMG file (Froyo or Gingerbread), it will "take" but boot to Froyo with all of his stuff on it. It's almost like it wipes itself and loads this image out of nowhere...
Another weird thing, which may or may not be related, is that I see a weird download in his notification tray. Apparently, the file named "WinBej2Setup.exe" was downloaded twice. I did some research on that and everything I see points to some kind of malware for a Windows PC.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but you do have S-off correct? I'm not sure about the weird file, have you tried to access it? Also what other roms have you tried to flash? Also what method did you use to root?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
I don't have S-OFF. Here's all the bootloader info:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0019
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.06.04.06_m
Emmc-boot
Dec 27 2010, 14:47:30
As for the file, I'm not sure where it's located. I can only see the notifications that they have finished downloading.
As for the history on the phone, I really can't say much since it's not my personal phone. The person I'm doing this for said he tried to root it using the ACE Hack kit and "some ADB commands" and failed. That's all the information I was given.
At this point, I can load anything to the phone but it will just revert to Froyo in the exact state that it's currently in.
For example, I just tried installing Gingerbread via the official RUU file. It goes through the entire process without a hiccup. Then it reboots and takes forever to load; but when it does, it's back on Froyo with all the owners files...
Personally I would root it, make sure s off, and make sure to format the memory card the corrrect way also.
Then I would install a custom rom.
And the file you speak of is also a game called bejewled. My girl loves that game.

This p-o-s I'm addicted to, and my woman is jealous of.
Reformat the sd card then do an official upgrade thru HTC. Go to the website and download the Gingerbread RUU and HTC Sync. If this doesn't work, complete the root process as suggested.Tell your friend you can't install exe files on Android. They need to be apk files or zip files if installed thru recovery.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk
I appreciate the advice guys, but I think you guys are overlooking what I'm trying to say... I've already tried running the official upgrades from HTC. The RUU says it's completed fine, but on reboot, I'm back on Froyo with all the same stuff on it.
I've even gone as far as extracting the IMG file out of the RUU and loading it through the bootloader. If I do this, it does the same thing-- says everything loaded fine but reverts on boot back to Froyo in the same state it was in prior.
I can temp root the phone using psneuter but that's about it. I have no idea how I'm going to achieve S-OFF if everything I do is wiped on reboot...
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to lock the entire phone down in a state where nothing can be changed; and if so, is there a way to disable this feature.
Are you sure you do not have a file on the root of the card named PD98IMG.zip? You may be installing this every time the phone boots.
How can you install a non RUU ROM when you have s-on?
Something does not make sense here. Also the exe file you talked about has no use on android as android can do nothing with it. Where do you actually see it?
Go back to square 1. What ROM is on the phone now? Do you have clockwork installed?
I'm not sure how to many different times/ways I can explain the same thing. The phone is on stock AT&T Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3). Currently, there is no custom recovery and it's not rooted.
The issue is that the phone always reverts (almost like it's doing a nandroid restore in the background) during boot to Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) with all his stuff on it.
I've installed Gingerbread 2.3.3 (2.47.502.7) via the official AT&T RUU file
I've extracted the PD98IMG.zip from the Gingerbread 2.3.3 (2.47.502.7) RUU and loaded it via bootloader
I've installed Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) via the official AT&T RUU file.
I've extracted the PD98IMG.zip from the Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) RUU and loaded it via bootloader
I've done a factory reset from within the phone
I've deleted user data & cache with the stock recovery
After performing each and everyone of these steps, the phone hangs on the white HTC screen while booting and eventually boots up to Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) along with all the guys stuff on it.

I agree completely; however, the issue I'm running into very unusual. With that being said, I'm trying to point out anything unusual that I notice with the phone. This file most likely has absolutely nothing to do with the problem I'm encountering, but I mentioned it just in case.

I wish this was the case; however, this wouldn't explain why all his stuff is still on the phone... The only time there is a PD98IMG.zip on the sdcard is when I put it there. Even so, I would have to boot the phone into bootloader mode and go through the prompts to get it take. More so, even if I did do this, it would just revert upon rebooting (hints the problem).
I appreciate the help but I think the problem is a little deeper than what has be presented.
That clears it up for me. You obviously know what you are doing. You mentioned "wipe" a few times which confused me. Didn't think there was a way to actually wipe it without a recovery installed. Sounds like one helluva confusing issue there. Goodluck.
Its always going to revert back to the previous state because its still s-on.
You need to get s-off before anything will change.

This I know is not true-- You can load signed code with S-ON. If what you said was true there would be no way to load an official RUU or OTA...
I appreciate the help, but telling me to get S-OFF (which I've clearly stated that I'm unable to do) is not getting me anywhere.
Is the original ROM branded? Have you tried installing a PD98IMG.zip from a gold card? Just a thought.

[SOLVED] Mercyless Sensation Bootloop

I've been on 3.24 firmware for a while, but wanted to revert as ICS has some minor issues. Good fun trying it though.
Anyway, I'm bootlooping like grandma's butt on a barstool.
I have crawled the forum and tried just about any/everything.
All I did was trying to run an incompatible ROM (gb) on the 3.24 firmware. Fair enough.. it doenst work. So I flashed 3.12. Nothing still... then I flashed 1.17 and the radio. Now no rom, ICS nor GB, will boot eithout looping. (Even when going back to 3.24 and ICS) I've tried downgrading hboot from 27 to 17. And yes, for every try I completely wipe (4ext, format all excpt fat32) and superwipe and also wipe cache and Dalvik. I've reinstalled every rom I have on my sd as well as trying to restore a couple of backups I have.
Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Still the same bootloop.
EDIT: 4Ext Recovey seems unaffected and works
Try starting again. What I recommend is you try downgrading the firmware and install a Stock RRU.

Why do people try to flash everything they can even remotely think of when something doesn't go as planned?
Probably the worst thing you can do... you're quite lucky you didn't brick your phone in the process.
If you want to use a GB ROM - flash a 1.17 Firmware from this link.
Superwipe
Install GB Rom.
Once you have that sorted and it's actually running (let it boot up completely at least ONCE!), you can flash the appropriate radio. (and please actually follow the instructons that came with it....!!!)
Just to confirm, I wasn't actually saying flash anything possible.. I basically wanted him to do what you just gave him the link to, however I'm not on my computer at the moment so it's a little hard to multi-task and source a thread that has what they need in it. He could've found the answer to his question pretty easy anyway.

jaaystott was right on the money. I downloaded the stock RUU package and I extracted the rom.zip. Renamed it to PG58IMG, threw it on the sd and voila. This rom package contains everything to downgrade bootloader, radio and all the other components.
anazei...don't get cheeky until you've actually READ my post. Lol! But still big ups for all suggestions. Yours was absolutely on my list of plausible remedies and would probably have done the trick, had the circumstances been different. :-D
Thanks guys! Always prompt help and response on XDA! :-D
Now, let's get down to brass tax: Why wouldnt anazeis solution work? I did do exactly what he/she suggests. Which is flashing back down to 1.17. I can clearly see that the stock rom.zip flashes heaps of stuff. And the 3.24 as well. But trying to revert there was quite obviously a component still un-downgraded when flashing fw and radios separately. What am I missing out on?
Anyone?
Glad that I helped solved your problem
I have no idea why that didn't work, but all I can possibly think is maybe the firmware or HBOOT didn't downgrade or something like that..

Hi
Could you tell me how to extract the rom.zip from the RUU.exe ?
Thanks
You simply:
- start the exe file and just leave it running
- go to your user profile's temp folder. Something like C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Temp
- sort the folder by date and enter the most recent directory with a guid as name
- drop down to the next guid folder as well and voila. There it is.
- rename it and put it in the root of the sd and the bootloader will start sanitizing the Sensation gone sour.
Here's a method for Linux/MacOSX as well:
http://www.kennynet.co.uk/2010/06/24/extract-rom-zip-from-ruu-in-linux/
An easier way to extract it is to use something like 7zip or win rar and simply right click on the exe and extract

True that! Totally forgot but thats a really smooth way to do it as well. Thanks!
First, I just wanted to send a huge shout-out to cyb0rgb0rg and jaaystott for helping me solve a similar problem I had found myself all yesterday evening. THANK YOU! I am very new to installing custom ROMs on my phone. Rooted the phone yesterday, and I realize I must have, right off the bat, installed some firmware with my original rooting instructions that for whatever reason rendered the phone unable to boot. It specifically had to do with the audio output, since as the phone was booting (in any ROM I would attempt), the output of "adb logcat" would cycle over and over and over again through the loading the audio drivers.
It took me a second to find the stock RUUs, but a link is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
I was able to find the rom.zip in the Temp directory, as suggested, and although I was a little hesitant because the file was so huge, I flashed it with HBOOT. Success. Then, I loaded in the bootloader I started getting the hang of (teamwin 2.0). Flashed in the Virtuous Inquisition firmware, the Virtuous Inquisition ROM, and amazingly, the whole thing works. I'm going to try to retrace my steps to try to find out exactly which firmware caused this problem, but I suspect that many of the very similar problems I encountered while searching for a solution can be solved with this method.
So, thank you very much! You helped make a tired and desperate man very happy.

[Q] HELP sensation flashed ROM wont start

Hello, first I would like to apologize as I am clearly a noob and have very little idea of what I am talking about.
I'm sure my problem has been asked before and that if I had any idea what the problem was, I could find the exact solution I need here on the forums. Unfortunately I don't even know what to search for. If any one would like to complain go ahead but please..just help me.
So I decided to root my HTC Sensation, which I believe I did without any problem, I followed the guide on this site. Nothing went wrong and as far as I was aware everything was working fine.
I then decided to flash a new ROM onto the phone. I chose the Android Revolution HD as this looked to be the popular choice. I got it from here and I believed I had followed the instructions on how to install it properly.
However, after installing the ROM I came upon a problem, the phone would not start, it would just go to the HTC boot screen and stay there forever. At first I couldn't even get back to the hboot screen, but after inserting a new and better charged battery I was able to get there, but every time I do it attempts to update and says " CID incorrect! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot." and I cant do anything but get stuck in this continuous loop.
If I take the SD card out I can access the HBOOT properly, however trying to do a recovery at this point doesn't seem to work.
I have no idea what to do and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I would be happy to just have my phone back to the way it was originally.
Thanks
Might wanna try a RUU? not sure but hopefully it should do..
Sent from my HTC-Z710a using xda premium
First off your MAJOR issue is that you flashed a rom for the Desire HD section(As soon as I clicked on your link, it said Android Revolution 7.0.2... I was like wtf? There is no 7.0.2 on the sensation forum) ... I think that's the prob... for now! Flash the correct rom and stay in the right section!
Second, I don't see why you can't get into recovery. Remove your sd card, power on the phone by holding vol-down +power to get to bootloader, select recovery and flash the right rom. I would also recommend that you delete the P58IMG.zip off your sd card as well. I'm assuming you have it on there for the ICS firmware but flashed the incorrect rom. You are far from bricking it, but keep this up and it might turn into one!
Thanks, your post is certainly reasuring though I am still not sure how to continue. Also it is possible I gave the wrong link to the rom I used, though it definitely was the same name.
Anyway what Im thinking I have to do now is 1st delete p58img.zip file from my SDcard and put the right rom on there, could you link to one?
So by removing that file I should be able to access the SDcard again and flash the new rom?

This is an ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Rom
So you need:
1) SuperCID (so that you can flash any firmware)
Instructions
2) Flash the ICS firmware (otherwise you can't use the ICS roms)
http://goo.gl/RcbMy (and make SURE that there aren't any errors - errors such as not doing the SuperCID process correctly, therefore it can't flash - I say this because it seems like many users think the firmware is flashed and then find out their rom won't start, so don't be stupid and check whether or not an error has occurred just incase!)
3) Pick a rom

4) Flash the 4EXT recovery, I'm sure you already have clockwork mod on there but I think that's a bit buggier... so if I were you, I'd go for the 4EXT touch recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
5) If you wish, you can also flash for example: tweaks and addons by awsm devs which make our phone much better if you wish!
6) you're good to go! It's that easy.
Yeah, all you have to do is remove that P58IMG.zip from your sd card and your bootloader won't force you to update or w/e. You'll be fine.
And don't forget to md5 check for roms you download !

Thank you very much. It seems I hadn't performed the SuperCID part. Once I had done that I installed Elegancia and it is working perfectly.
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me.

Question about Viper rom

Hey everyone, made an account just for this question but it turns out I can't ask it in the appropriate forum thread because I'm a noob.
So here it goes: just rooted my phone for the first time and installed the Viper rom using Rom Manager, and it's stuck in the boot screen. Think it's been like this for 10 minutes now. Is this normal, or what should I do?

Upgrade your firmware to 3.33 - follow the [GUIDE] posts and tools in Sensation General and Development forums - note: you may need to S-OFF, in which case if your hboot version is 1.17 or 1.18 go to revolutionary.io else go to unlimited.io - for JuopunutBear S-OFF it is best to follow the guides by ganeshp in Sensation General forum

Thanks a bunch, Although I think I do have a serious problem, since the recovery image sends me back to the viper rom - the one which won't go past the boot screen.
I have my phone plugged into my computer but my computer won't recognize the phone (it's in bootload mode) "recovery" goes back to the viper rom, as well as the factory reset. (and I did back up my unrooted version but I think because I hit the backup thing in the viper installation it overwrote that)
So yeah. Did i just **** up my phone for good? =\
(and thanks for responding )
[[ Edit : I've taken my SD card out of my phone, and mounted it into a card reader and am now putting a stock rom onto the SD card, going to see if I can install the stock rom and work from there. ]]

Hi,
Try following THIS GUIDE
Start again from scratch.Follow it to the letter.
Well, Reporting back here.
I first installed this ROM back http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529941 back onto my phone to get it functional again,
then I followed This thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472298
followed up by doing everything here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
checked my phones versions : Android 4.0.3 , Sense 3.6 and software version 3.33.401.106
felt confident of trying the viper ROM again, but it's stuck on it's loading screen again. What do you guys advice? I think I'm going to try a different ROM just to see what happens.
Also wanted to thank both of you for trying to help, it's much appreciated.

Hi,
When you are s-on,you have to use smartflash in 4EXT every time you install a ROM.
I think there is a way described in Asskicker's thread to enable it permanently.
Read through the thread.
Hi just thought I jump in on this thread as I also do not have permission to post directly in Rom thread...
Running latest version of Viper 1.3.5 and must say it's great...
When sound profile is on loud, and screen turns off there's a notification sound each time. Any way to switch this sound off? I've searched through tweaks and personalisation settings can't see anything.
Not a show stopper by any means just curious

Had the same problem. You need to smartflash to make it work. Easy. Simple. Done.
