[Q] What do you want to see in a custom stock ROM? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

'Sup everyone, Lime here.
I'm working on a custom stock ROM based off of the 1.55.531.1 update and was wondering what sort of things you didn't like from the stock ROM. This will be my first ROM I've worked on, and I'm making a custom stock ROM to learn my way around Android.
What I've done:
- Hidden Kidzone to the depths of the earth
- Hid the redundant Camcorder icon
- Unhid all of the default HTC applications
- Deodexed for theming purposes
- New boot animation (Nexus One's boot animation, mostly because I think it looks cool and is simple)
- Changed the default layout of the homescreens (the clock's on the default screen, like it is on most other versions of Sense)
- Added bash, nano, sysro/sysrw
What I plan on doing:
- Removing a lot of the mostly unused apps
- De-pinking the icons
- Remapping the Genius Button to search
- Changing the launcher to have 7 homescreens instead of 5
- Enabling CRT Animations
- Modifying the MyTouch Power Control's brightness control to 11/55/100 instead of 40/60/100
What else would you like to see?
EDIT:
Things I want to make happen:
- Extended Power Menu
- Extended Quick Settings
- DEATH TO T-MOBILE APPS (Debloat)
- Less useless battery icon in the notification bar
- CRT Animations
- GPU Acceleration
- Rosie mods (7 homescreens)
- Port the stock Sense lockscreen to MT4GS
- romann's Tweaks
Things that users want:
- AOSP apps
Things I can't really do:
- OC/UV Kernel (source is for 1.28.531.9 so a kernel is out of the question unless it happens to be compatible with 1.55.531.1 [will test soon])

Perhaps an extended power menu, and a built-in screenshot function ? those are some things stock is missing.
To be honest, I haven't used any stock ROM in ages. But I'm sure we could make a stock ROM look nice with some theming.
You may also want to remove themes that people don't use, there's a couple themes that come with the Stock ROM.

Also have the option of the
-aosp music player
-Aosp gallery.
-Extended power menu
-All T-Mobile bloat removed too.
A BIG THANKS TO YOU FOR ADDING ANOTHER ROM TO THE FORUM!

Remove the recent used apps that shows up in the notification bar, change the battery icon to a icon that accurately shows battery percent, personally i perfer the notification bar found on the droid x2. Oh yeah and built in or an app similar to setcpu.

Set up a kernel with overclock (1.5 GHz would be sufficient.)
Oh, and whatever you do... don't get rid of the stock camera

- Extended Power Menu acknowledged. I know it's useful, I just forgot to put it on my to do list.
- Theming is something I'll have to learn how to do; I've no clue where to start but the default theme could be changed. I'm also not much of an ARTISTE but I can pretend to be one

- We'll see about the AOSP applications, I'm rather fond of having a unified interface (all AOSP, all Sense, or all MIUI if you get what I'm saying), but I'll see if I think it's worth the time to add it in.
- Power Menu acknowledged, as I said earlier. It's very useful.
- I'm removing everything and likely putting My Account in as a flashable zip with a new icon. It's actually somewhat useful compared to trying to use their website, in my opinion. The icon is a joke though.

- I'm definitely keeping wifi calling in because I need it to use my phone over in middle-of-nowhere-college-town.
- Yeah, I definitely want to figure out how to put a number overlay on top of the battery marker similar to how CM7 does it. It's amazingly useful. That being said, I am going to add in the HTC Battery widget by default because I think it's great at what it does and doesn't look half bad.
- I'll see about trying to add in Tweaks, because I know you can get rid of the notification bar with them.
- SetCPU is not allowed to be packaged in with a ROM. You can get it here for free though.

- I will try flashing Blue's kernel and seeing if it is compatible with the 1.55.531.1 base after I have more time (i.e after finals). Unfortunately, the kernel source for 1.55.531.1 has not been released yet(?).

I've been looking into theming lately, it seems quite complex and time consuming but hopefully I can help you make some themes. Let me know when you're near done building the ROM.
Also, I guess we can worry about the kernel after we have a nice working ROM.

Love your idea, I'd love to see an updated version of cedde's doubleshot lite, basically remove all bloatware, gpu rendering and a super smooth rosie. Maybe even add tweaks and crt animations. Hey how bout a different lockscreen???

- Bloatware will be done, don't worry about that.
- I have no idea where to start with GPU acceleration, but I definitely want to add it in. My inexperience will hopefully turn into experience.
- I definitely want to mess with Rosie.
- Will probably be adding in romann's Tweaks.
- I'm working on CRT animations shortly (after finals). The "off" animation seems easy to pull off, but the "on" animation takes a ridiculous amount of editing.

- Well, if I can integrate Tweaks, the option will be there to toggle it on/off. I *personally* don't ever use recently used apps, but to each their own.

FYI, when it comes to "GPU acceleration", there seems to be a misunderstanding among some amateur developers. Do you really think HTC would not utilize the GPU abilities that the processor has? By default, all of the GPU acceleration allowed by the Gingerbread operating system is already ON. There is a switch available in the build.prop that only turns on GPU acceleration when in debug mode. When the operating system is run in debug mode, the default is to have GPU acceleration off, this switch will force it on. But in normal operation, GPU acceleration is always on.
ICS enables the use of the GPU for much more than Gingerbread. When we finally get ICS for this phone, it will use the built in GPU much more.
Now, as to your ROM. Why not include Bloater so the user can choose what he/she wants to remove. For instance, I like and use the Genius features, so I would not want that removed. But other things, like Netflix, Group Messaging, etc. I have no use for, so I remove those using Bloater. I'm currently using the DS_MOD_1.55.531.3 ROM and it runs very well. There are certain tweaks (like extended quick settings) I would like.

Yep - listen to what was said here. Gingerbread uses hardware acceleration for a lot of what happens on the screen already - it's always been a weighing of how many cycles it takes with or without, so Gingerbread was inefficient when it came to using the GPU for some things.
ICS has been a while in coming, and has been improved to take advantage of much more integration of the GPU and making you have to weigh less choices between using the GPU or not.
That all being said, there is an issue with either the hardware for the GPU, the TV-out function itself, or most likely the part where it down-converts the HDMI signal to analog to pass it over the RCA connection (most likely) that causes the skipping for some video when output to TV.
We were doing a study on that a bit ago, I don't want to derail your thread with it but you mentioned looking into the GPU so here's what you should be looking into about it. We can keep your thread here on topic by sending people to this thread for discussion on that one:

I think, and it is just my opinion after reading several things about this issue, is that the way the TV-OUT is really just mirroring the screen, so essentially it is driving two screens and, as you say, downconverting the signal at the same time. That's just too much overhead for the GPU and thus the stuttering. Maybe if we had an MHL instead of just the TV-OUT it would be better, it wouldn't have to drive two screens at once. Given that the Sensation has essentially the same chipset, and it has MHL, I wonder if it is just that we don't have the driver/library files for the MHL in our ROM? I would guess you've probably investigated that, though. Also, has anyone tried the DLNA properties available? This device does support DLNA but I've not seen anyone utilize it for anything.
OOPS, sorry, didn't mean to derail

[POLL] Ideas for a New ROM in Development

After doing my own work bringing the MoDaCo rom up to date with the Sprint MR, and a LOT of reading and researching, I'd like to start work on my own custom Hero rom. While speed and performance will be important factors I certainly want to maintain and/or improve functionality.
I have my own general vision for what I want to do, however I'd also like to get some community inputs on what you would like to see in a custom ROM.
If you can, please share 5 things you would like to see implemented. They can be features you've seen/liked from other roms or something you haven't seen done yet. I'm looking for some new ideas.
This ROM will be based on android 1.5 not messing with 1.6 or 2.0 until an official release is made by HTC/Sprint.
one great thing i would love to see included is a simplified task managment system. i am running task killer. but if it were possible to incorperate into the rom the ability to have a time limit on certin apps when not used that they would just stop.
The main thing that annoys me to no end right now would be to make predictive text allowable in all search forms, password forms and address boxes in browsers.
Would also love to see more functions from the locked screen like S2Unlock from WM. The ability to preview texts, emails and missed calls from the locked screen and either dismiss them or respond to them directly from the lock screen and have it open up the app that is needed like the SMS app/email app/Phone dialer after unlocking.
Edit: Oh and remove the vibrate from the dialer which Sprint added on the MR update. Why would they add this with no way to turn it off? SOME people DO wanna try and save their battery life ya know?? Stupid.
Something other than a minimally-modified stock ROM.

So both of you want applications for the most part, that's not a rom, that's something you can suggest in te developer section.
As far as something I'd like to see in a rom... A modified Kernel with SetCPU support would be wonderful
The ability to rotate the home screen to landscape mode, please.

Maybe the second request is more of a software request but he did say "anything". However, the second one I believe is more ROM related as there seems to be something in the ROM that does not want to allow predictive text in certain forms.

Agreed.
I posted this in Modaco's thread and I'll post it here too. Email from Mike, dev for SetCPU:
There is a feature in the Sprint HTC Hero's kernel that prevents SetCPU from working. It likes to constantly set the CPU speed itself, and SetCPU can't override the kernel itself. From analyzing the source, I believe this is fixable. Are you using a custom ROM? If so, try asking your ROM developer to compile a kernel without the "PERFLOCK" feature in the kernel off. Because I don't have a Hero myself to test, I can't verify that this will work.
I don't know if the setcpu idea would work well with the cdma hero, one of the times I've wifi tethered I witnessed an overheat LED warning, thought nothing of it until I checked my battery info, which was pretty much beyond egg cooking temperatures, phone then force rebooted without warning... Not sure if that has to do with things inside the Kernal like mentioned, but it seems like overclocking the cpu might just fry it quickly with the hero, underclocking could be a different story though..
Also.. It's hard for me to say because I'm very interested to see what HTC will be bringing to the plate with Sense 2.0, but I wouldn't mind more interchangable/ custom themes, or modifications to the look and feel to Sense itself, or like what was said above, something more than just a tweaked version of stock. Landscape home screens would also be a nice addition to the Hero, I often attempt this when tired, wouldn't mind it actually working for me.

going to look into portrait mode in sense ui since i'm curious in seeing how it works too. any more ideas?
Do you think there is any way to optimize the htc_ime.apk? I hate getting keyboard lags when typing a text. That is the only thing about this phone that I could say that I hate.
Also don't want to beat a dead horse, but I wonder if there is any way to get the new maps to work with 1.5. Coming from the Dream forum, I know that they got it working on 1.6 (before it was released to 1.6) by tricking the app into thinking that 1.6 was actually 2.0. I'm not sure exactly how this was done but from what I remember, it didn't sound extremely difficult.
Then again, I'm not a dev so I don't know what it would entail.
Don't know if this is more of an app or what, but how about a way to change the frame colors from grey to one of serveral colors.
How about this, for the browser make it so I can type something into the address bar and if doesn't have a .com at the end of it. It then will give a Google search. Kinda of odd its not already like that it would keep googles numbers way high
The keyboard Lag would be great to fix and the rotating screen would make this phone even better than what it is. How about finding a way to increase the internal memory we start with. I don't know if that is possible but it sure would be nice to be able to have more to start with. I use Apps2Sd but still lose memory when I install apps. I am still real confused about this, but I am about 20 meg better than I was before I used Apps2Sd. I saw a video from unlockr.com where he was setting up apps2sd on a G1 and when he finished it showed the added memory from the ext3 partition in the Sd card and internal memory area in settings. he went from about 45 meg to over 500 meg after he finished setting it up.

i would love to see the time limit thing, and maybe an automatic reboot function, and maybe a recovery system IN the Phones GUI not in its own Partition or whatever.

[ROM-REQ] Ultimate Galaxy S - xda community based rom

The main point of this thread is so that devs may be able to pop in and quickly see the most-requested features to include in their roms. ROMs are beginning to come out for our working recovery, however, many of the roms seemed to be more vanilla flavored. In that light, I would like to make a few requests for a Rom and hopefully get the requests of others. I will try to keep the OP update to reflect community requests:
What we would like:
- Touchwiz 3 based as well as 1 alt such as LauncherPro with the ability to
- Sprint apks as a seperate file
- Rom Manager support
- Root
- CPU undervolt as well as overclock
- Wallpapers, Ringtones, and LWP from all other Galaxy S devices pre-installed
- Add font changer like the rest of the Galaxies
- Kernel / radio optimization for better battery life w/Cortex A8 optimization
- Add whatever lagfix the epic can apply (not that it needs it, but why are T-Mobile and AT&T get over 2000 quadrant scores and epic does not??)
APKs to include:
- fully working wifi tether
- battery saving app such as Juice Defender at devs discretion
- Solid Backup app (xda member sceptor notes that he has found the inlcuded program in the Boss rom very solid link: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786993)
- Rom Manager with fully working features
- Missing Galaxy S apks included download below ripped from i9000 Galaxy S [reposted from jimbob343]:
www mediafire com/?yy3ewxomj0z
75Mb file
and the Odex files
www mediafire com/?jigr6dsopkwnogz
10.1Mb File
Most requested apks:
- FM RADIO (progress is being worked on @ sdx
- MUSIC PLAYER
- VIDEO PLAYER
- DAILY BRIEFING WIDGETS ETC
- task manager button the recent programs list and the comm manager in the notification drop down
What would be nice:
- Puzzle Lockscreen or other Galaxy S lockscreen, no vanilla please
- Theme and non -themed options
- TV-OUT re-enabled
- It would be nice to be able to edit dock /add- remove homescreens like the rest, can't there be a workaround that it can only be done in portrait? (Assuming the landscape is the issue)
- the ability to make the task manager button in the recent programs list link to a different task manager
- rapid charge like No2Chem did for tp2
- fix_permissions script
- 270 degree rotation
- an easy theming option like the new htc desire or mytouch series
- VooDoo port
This phone needs the radio fixed andd battery life issues fixed before custom roms.

Agreed! not that I use FM but my GF does and I'm trying to get her to trade in her EvO junk so I do not have to flash two separate phones gets annoying trying to keep track of whats what for what phone lol.
I can do everything except tv out
I second this. Vanilla is great, but I want to see and use TouchWiz 3.0 to its fullest power. I was disappointed when I found out that many features were removed from the Epic. Instead I ran LauncherPro in the meantime, waiting for a full touchwiz rom.
A video player shortcut is my biggest complaint.

you can do FM radio?
Oh I forgot, I hate the zoom bar in the browser.
I'm in for this. How about over/under clocking, and wifi tether built in?
+1 on this idea!!!!
My requests like most members here would be...
1. Add touchwiz music player again
2. It would be nice to be able to edit dock /add- remove homescreens like the rest, can't there be a workaround that it can only be done in portrait? (Assuming the landscape is the issue)
3. Fully working wifi tether included

5. Kernel / radio optimization for better battery life

7. Add fm radio if possible

@ kyrumo71 - WTF is that picture?!?!
Anyway, about the battery... I use two full batteries in a day. Well, 1.5 now that I have task killer running. I don't use this phone nearly as much as I used my iphone and the battery doesn't last as long. I'll charge it when needed because I love it but [email protected] it would be great if I didn't have to.
Definitely +1 on everything said in OP's post.
Yea the only issue I have is the damn charging....takes forever...actually takes longer than forever....Sammy went a little overboard on trickle charge...so if someone can make a rapid charge like No2Chem did for tp2 that would be great!

Would there be anyway to have some of the touchwiz widgets without having the touchwiz launcher running? I actually think the friendfeed widget is pretty good. I like most of the things about touchwiz except that 4 icon home dock.
But yea more importantly than that is the touchwiz enhancments in the os like the task manager button the recent programs list and the comm manager in the notification drop down. Maybe the ability to make the task manager button in the recent programs list link to a different task manager as well.
My request- a stock rom that is rooted and has a Rom Manager compatible kernel
I kinda cobbled my together by flashing koushs CWM kernel and using the one click root that is sticked- thanks in advance!!
Some kind of fix_permissions script to make porting data easier would be nice. Also, optional 270/360 degree rotation.
Tv-Out PLEASE!!
Please, Tv-out via 3.5mm headphone jack is the #1 feature I look foward to. I miss it soo much coming from the Touch Pro 2. Nobody seems to have any answers to the Tv-out possibilities. Is it possible??
I have 270 rotation with

[HOW-TO] Make your phone perfect! Updated [8-10-11]

This is a [HOW-TO] guide to making your Droid Charge the perfect smartphone(by that I mean music, movies, texting, calls etc). I'd say the main purpose of the thread is to just let people know of some awesome apps and settings to use if you'd like the perfect phone(well, I can't change the atrocious amount of RAM, sorry). Keep in mind this is going to be quite the read but I can guarantee there is some nice info for even the most learned Charge owners. As always, if you found this post at all helpful just hit the thanks button to show your appreciation.
1) First thing's first, you're going to want to flash Clockwork(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804) so you can flash tons of other awesome stuff later. If you ever have a question when doing anything root/ROM related you can either follow this guide(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657) OR just ask a question below.
2a) Next you're going to want to use CWM to flash your kernel so you can get rooted. You have 3 choices here; PBJ(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104634), PBJ non-voodoo(same link as PBJ just disable Voodoo through the CWM menu), and PBJ OTB edition(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126136). I personally use the OTB kernel because I like to have the option to overclock/undervolt whenever I feel it's necessary but apparently the non-OC kernel gets better battery life. I would never go with the non-voodoo kernel, the lagfix speeds up your phone and there are apps like Voodoo Control that really optimize it. There is only one real problem with Voodoo and that's that you MUST(I can't stress this enough) disable Voodoo if you are going to flash a different kernel. All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend the Voodoo kernel.
2b) Now you're going to want to flash the sd-card fix(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118111). This is ABSOLUTELY necessary and not optional, if you choose to not flash this your Charge will only read your SD card as a cd drive, to put it simply it breaks your USB mass storage and you can't transfer files anymore.
3a) After all that is done it's time to choose your ROM(if you want one). Some ROMs allow you to flash through ODIN but most are just CWM specific, .md5 files are ODIN and .zip files are CWM. Currently, I'd highly recommend Eclipse(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144015). Humble(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146103) is in a very close second but I'll have to give it to Nitro, he made a great ROM. It has an awesome TouchWiz4 look and has a bunch of flashable files to modify the ROM to your liking. Humble on the other hand has everything built in, that's the one thing that made me switch to Eclipse. For example Eclipse has an optional Honeycomb theme you can flash but Humble has it built in so you are forced to sit with Honeycomb like it or not. You can also choose certain debloated ROMs but I never really saw the point, if you want to stay on TouchWiz and debloat just download TitaniumBackup and either freeze(recommended) or just uninstall that crapware.
3b) Now this is not necessary but I would highly recommend you flash an AOSP lockscreen over the puzzle one, it's more accurate(you won't ever miss your swipe like you can with the puzzle) and you can see your battery percentage on the lockscreen when charging, great when you're calibrating your battery or just want to know what your battery is at. Eclipse has a flashable .zip and Humble comes with the AOSP lockscreen preinstalled. I would also highly recommend the HTC Sense lockscreen(keep reading, it's posted below under the subtitle "Lockscreen" in step 4).
3c) If you didn't choose Eclipse or Humble(or you're on an older version) I would highly recommend the modified camera.zip(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144885) that causes your power button to act as a shutter when using the stock Camera app. It really makes you forget about the fact that you don't have a dedicated camera button because, well, now you do have one!
4) Now it's time for the fun part, no more flashing we're going to start with the worlds best apps to truly make this phone awesome! Keep in mind this is not necessarily in order of importance they're just the first apps that popped into my head.
Keyboard: SwiftKey X($4), Modded HTC Sense Keyboard Port(free, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416) - SwiftKey X is a great keyboard with very accurate predictions, it can be annoying at times but I've found this keyboard to be incredible. The modded HTC Sense KB Port is very nice, it's pretty much an exact clone and is very easy to install, not to mention free. Give the legendary keyboard a shot! Added picture(s) of SwiftKey X.
Messaging: Handcent SMS(free), GO SMS Pro(free, thanks caesus!) - Handcent SMS is a customizable messaging app to replace the crappy stock messaging. I would say it's best feature over the stock app is the themes, they look awesome! GO SMS Pro is much better than Handcent if you ask me. GO has very cool transitions between pages(check pictures), the themes are much better(and there's a LOT more of them, which brings me to my next point), much better dev support and it just has a cleaner look then Handcent. Aside from all that the features are pretty much exactly the same. Added picture(s) of Handcent SMS and GO SMS Pro.
Handcent:
GO SMS:
Phone: Stock Phone(free, preinstalled) + Caller ID Plus($4), RocketDial($4) - I used RocketDial mainly for the callerID but I found the app itself to be quite buggy at times, for example about 2 weeks ago I received a call and when I went to answer it the phone froze up for about a minute and caused me to miss the call. This might have been due to the fact that I froze the Phone app in Titanium but I don't know. Now I just use the stock Phone app with Caller ID Plus and it's working great. Added picture(s) of Stock Phone with the Caller ID Plus app(blacked out the name, address, zip code and phone number in that order.)
Browser: Dolphin HD(free) - Pretty neat browser, I like the tabs and the gesture feature and currently have no problems with it. You might also want to check out Opera, although I haven't personally used it. Added picture(s) for Dolphin HD.
Music: PowerAMP($5, there's also the option to try it out with a 15 day free trial), Mixzing Basic(free), Stock Music Player(free, preinstalled) - Now keep in mind I'm REALLY into my music, I need a very high quality music player with tons of options and a nice UI. That's what PowerAMP is, if you aren't a huge music person or you don't listen to music primarily on your phone I would recommend a free app, either the stock Music Player or Mixzing Basic. Added picture(s) of PowerAMP.
Weather: Eclipse's built in GS2 widgets(free), MIUI Digital Clock(free) OR Beautiful Widgets($3) - As far as weather goes they all function the same, the weather is always accurate so I'll just put it plain and simple; the Eclipse widgets look incredible, they are animated very well but that's about it. MIUI Digital Clock is fantastic, VERY customizable and a great bang for your buck(yes, I know it's free). Then we have Beautiful Widgets, it's very handy to have all the widgets it comes with but honestly, who the hell needs a clock? All that info is displayed on your lockscreen/notification bar. Half the widgets are pointless, it's a waste of money unless you really like the look of its weather widget. Hands down the winner of this fight is MIUI Digital Clock for its incredible amount of customization. Added picture(s).
Eclipse Widget 1:
Eclipse Widget 2:
MIUI Digital Clock:
Beautiful Widgets:
News: Stock News & Weather widget(free), US Newspapers(free, thanks piizzadude!) - The stock News & Weather widget is quite simple, just a constant feed of news with the occasional picture. US Newspapers lists a bunch of different newspapers & sports sites, it also allows you to add your favorite sites to the app. Added picture(s) of Stock News & Weather and US Newspapers.
Stock News & Weather:
US Newspapers:
Video Player: Stock Video Player(free),MoboPlayer(free, thanks kvswim!) - Stock works fine, it's simple and just shows a list of your videos. MoboPlayer on the other hand has a lot more compatibility, it has a few problems like not detecting all my videos but it's a great video player.
Emulators: Ataroid,Gameboid,GBCoid,Gearoid,Gensoid,N64oid,Nesoid,SNesoid,FPse(not available on the market, must be obtained from Slideme or other such websites. Free for a limited time.) - Not sure about you but I NEED to have emulators with me at all times, whenever I'm bored I whip out the GB emulator and play some Pokemon Red or get the GBA emulator and play some Mystery Dungeon, great for nostalgia or just straight up fun. Added picture(s) of the GBA emulator(Gameboid). Sorry that they're sideways, don't hurt your neck!
Games: Fieldrunners HD($3), Age of Zombies($3),Cut the Rope($1),Plants vs Zombies($4),Impossible Game($1),Doodle Jump($1) - I have about 40 or so actual games on my phone. Instead of listing them all and looking up all their prices I'm taking the lazy route and just giving you my absolute favorite and most addicting games. Unfortunately they all cost money but hey you get what you pay for.
Lockscreen: Agile Lock(has a free & paid version; paid is $1) - I would HIGHLY recommend this lockscreen for anyone who doesn't like the AOSP/Puzzle/Glass or just wants to use the HTC sense lockscreen(you know, the ring that has shortcuts and such). If you do choose this route you would need to follow the Androidcentral guide(http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-charge-rooting-roms-hacks/88577-remove-lock-screen-charge.html) to remove your current lockscreen because all this app does is add a second lock to your phone, so you would need to unlock your phone twice if you want to get in. Before you do that BE WARNED this removes not only your lockscreen but your power button menu as well(you know, when you hold the power button to restart and boot into recovery). Instead it just powers your phone off, you can always re-enable your lockscreen very easily using the same guide so there's nothing to fear. This app has TONS of customization and is far superior to the zero customization the AOSP/stock locks have. I'd say the only issue this app has is the fact that you can't go to silent/sound like you can with the AOSP. Added picture(s).
Screenshot/Screen Capture: ShootMe(free, thanks blarrick & anoninja118!) - I prefer this over the stock screen capture service(Hold back key, then press home) it's slow at times, doesn't always take the picture and holding the back key causes me to actually go back in many apps(Dolpin HD and Handcent for example). I still do use the stock service but if back is causing problems I use ShootMe. Added picture(s).
Image Viewer/Gallery: QuickPic(free, thanks Jmjohnson1717!) - MUCH better image viewer over the stock app, the stock app is just too cluttered and not organized well. I like the options this one has and I can't thank you enough Jmjohnson1717, seriously... that stock app is horrible. Added picture(s).
Tethering: Barnacle Wifi Tether(free), A WiFi Tether AP Mesh Client(AKA OpenGarden, free), Wireless Tether for Root Users(free, not available on the Android Market. Download from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ ), PdaNet(free), EasyTether($10) - Barnacle, OpenGarden and WT4RUsers are all very simple wireless tethering apps. They are free and just require you to click one button and it will show up as a wireless network named AndroidTether or something similar. PdaNet and EasyTether are both wired tethering apps(in-case you don't have the option to connect to a wireless network). If you are going to choose a wired tethering app go with PdaNet because it's free. Added picture(s) of OpenGarden(all the wireless tethering apps look the same).
Scripts/Mods/.zips: V6 SuperCharger(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276), Loopy Smoothness Tweak(apply SuperCharger before this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205744), modded camera.apk(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144885), if you're on Eclipse you should flash all the included .zip files you feel are necessary(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144015) - V6 SuperCharger basically gets rid of your hanging home screen(When your home screen shows up blank after clearing RAM or closing an app that consumes high RAM). Loopy Smoothness Tweak basically just eliminates lag and choppiness on plenty of applications. Modded camera.apk just causes your power button to act as a shutter when you have the stock Camera app open, doesn't work for other apps like Fast Burst, just stock unfortunately. Eclipse flashable .zips are basically just apps/mods that Nitro thought some people would want and some people wouldn't, so he gave you the option to either flash or not flash. I chose to flash everything except VVM, stock gps config and puzzle unlock.
Other: Voodoo Control(free & paid version, thanks kvswim!), CPU Spy(free, thanks anoninja118!), FasterFix(free) - Voodoo Control allows you to control Voodoo lagfix/Voodoo Sound to customize your sound settings(among other things). "This(CPU Spy) is a simple app to display the time the CPU spends in each frequency state. This can be a useful tool in diagnosing battery problems or tweaking your over-clock settings." Quoted from the CPU Spy app on the Android Market because I'm too damn lazy to type anything else out :] Fasterfix is a VERY simple but incredibly useful app, it basically makes your GPS lock on much faster, when I'm inside my house GPS locks on in about 2 seconds, just open the app and choose the server closest to you. Added picture(s) of Voodoo Control Plus(paid version) and FasterFix.
Voodoo Control Plus:
FasterFix:
That's pretty much everything I needed to do before this phone was perfect, might not have been the most useful guide but I just wanted to share everything I needed to do with my Charge. Now I'm not saying to do this exactly since everyone has different tastes but just use this as a reference. There are some cool apps you may not have known about and there is some info you may not have known about. Don't click that thanks button unless you actually feel this thread deserves it, peace :]
You forgot Voodoo Control. I line out to my car. I listen to techno, and I like my bass cranked and the volume amped. This is absolutely necessary for anyone who likes their music to go loud and hard. Especially high school teenagers like me Also you can control voodoo lagfix from the app.
Also, I recommend MoboPlayer as a video player, it has a lot more file support than the stock player.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
I'll have to check that out, I use Freemake Video Converter(possibly the BEST converter of all time) and just convert it to Android format so stock works fine for me, and btw PowerAMP(the music player) allows you to modify your bass and, well, pretty much everything. I like a lot of bass too and PowerAMP does just that
Voodoo Control modifies the audio hardware directly.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
Yea I have Voodoo Control Plus :] I'll be sure to add it to the list, I just prefer poweramp, it gives you a nice UI like you're in a recording studio. It also allows you to save your presets and assign them to certain songs and all this crap. I love both apps
edit: Do you know why Mobo isn't recognizing all my videos? I direct it to the folder and after it hits a certain video it will just stock scanning and only show a few videos. Not sure what the problem is but that's the only thing annoying me about this app, everything else seems great.
If you do a lot of "newspaper" reading I would suggest that you give US Newspapers a try. it is a free app and it lists something like 30 newspapers and sports sites. You can also add your favorite sites as well.
Is their an app to turn my charge into a sgs2? Now that would be a perfect phone!
How bout how to do this on a mac? I know you can use heimdall but as far as step by step I'm lost.

Wondering about 2b.. the SD card fix. I've yet to have to flash this to have my mass storage work properly. I'm running the latest PBJ Voodoo kernel, and am on the debloated rom with a few minor tweaks of my own. I just double checked and I can read from and write to my SD card when connected to my PC just fine. Is it only necessary when running certain roms?
Edit: I suppose it is possible that I flashed the fix way back when I rooted my DC, but I really don't remember doing that. I do have the fix on my SD card though, so I guess it is a possibility that I did flash it and don't remember doing it.

See the thing is it doesn't always happen, if you didn't flash it I would still recommend it. If it breaks later you will have to go out and buy a usb reader for your sd card to fix it
Beamed from my Droid Charge using the XDA premium app
This is a great idea for the newer Android users. The only thing I would add is that a custom launcher is very important (ADW/Go Launcher Ex/LauncherPro Plus)>
Also, I think GoSMS has surpassed Handcent in the SMS category.
Mass storage break
This is crazy! I never even heard about this SD card break before you mentioned it. Are the dev's working on implementing this into their roms?

Haven't heard any talk about it. Not really sure what causes it but the guide I followed to rooting this phone told me to flash the SD card fix. I see plenty of threads on this forum about how their phone is only reading as a disk drive and it's always because they didn't flash it.
edit: Just a side note, if anyone could suggest a better picture viewer/gallery over the stock one I would add it to the main post & give you credit, currently I can't stand the crappy stock Gallery :] Thanks.
I've begun adding pictures to the thread. I'm still in the process of getting pictures for all the apps, just sit back
Also, if you have any apps you think should be added to the main thread just drop a reply with the name and the reason why, I'll be sure to give you credit :]
QuickPick is a great app for the gallery.

you missed the all important screenshot app!! lol I personally use "Shoot Me!" but there is Drocap2 and a few others (all free) ... Dropbox is a good app to transfer/download files as well, and CPU Spy (free) is a must have to monitor phone cpu usage, and Terminal Emulator

sweet lol and CPU Spy and Terminal Emulator should be added as well, both free... perhaps LTE Switch too, its not a toggle but takes you directly to the option to switch between 4G LTE and 3G/1X only CDMA (for those too lazy to navigate through menus like myself lol)

Added CPU Spy because it seems like a pretty useful app, didn't add Terminal because I honestly can't see a real use for it. I think you can type su in it to check if you have root but aside from that I don't see the point
I won't add LTE Switch because there were a lot of complaints that the app can break your LTE and force a factory reset to fix it, I never bothered downloading it after seeing all the complaints. Sorry!

[AOSP ROM][2.3.7][Nightlies] 10-24 - OMFGB 1.3.1

r2doesInc has been kind enough to give me permission to start a new thread dedicated to the OMFGB (made by Team t3hh4xx0r) Nightlies on XDA, as he no longer posts here. I will try to answer as many questions as possible about the thread, but I (like you) are just an avid user who wanted to keep the thread OP up to date for other users, not a member of t3hh4xx0r. Most of the information below was replicated from the thread located here, just updated to reflect newer information. If you really love the rom, you can support the team by donating here. Enjoy!

No0b guide!
Upon the recommendation of one of the thread followers, I decided to put together this thread to help noobs getting started. Hope it helps, but if you need more assistance, PM me and I can help in greater detail.
Kernels
It comes with the up-to-date CM kernel, however there are other ones that you can try! You can always use the Kernel Manager app in the market, but I'll also provide links to the threads and basic explanations of the most popular ones below.
Godm0de: toastcfh is a legendary kernel master on XDA, and he constructed this excellent kernel a ways back. It is the best non-SBC kernel, in my humble opinion. It includes overclocking and underclocking capabilities, undervolting, uses CFS, and is based off of Linux kernel 2.6.38-8.
Tiamat: an excellent kernel, available in both SBC and non-SBC. It also includes overclocking and underclocking capabilities, undervolting, uses CFS, and the most recent version is based off of Linux kernel 2.6.38-8. I personally have used the most recent SBC version (4.1.0), and really like the new lagfree governor. Personally, however, I use the famous 3.3.7 kernel, which gives unparalleled battery life.
Savaged Zen: although it is no longer in development, this kernel is absolutely wonderful, and I was a staunch supporter for a long time. The final version is 2.2.1, and includes overclocking and underclocking capabilities, undervolting, comes in both CFS and BFS versions, comes in both SBC and non-SBC versions, and is based off of Linux kernel 2.6.38-7.
I won't go into detail about all of those individual features (that is what Google is for), however I will single out SBC because of previous debate on the topic. SBC is essentially a “trickle charge” of the battery, or charging more than 100% to fully maximize the charging amount. Non-SBC kernels charge to 100%, then discharge to 90%, and recharge to 100%, and continue this cycle while still showing 100% in the top bar. This is why when you pull the phone off of the charger it instantly drops down to 90%. There have been reports of exploding batteries when SBC was first introduced, however these were quickly dismissed by many as cheap Chinese batteries (or other rumor-based exaggerations), and there have been no reported cases since this time. Point is that SBC is considered use at-your-own-risk, although I've used SBC kernels nonstop for nearly a year and have not had problems. Just an advisory notice.
SetCPU
To control how your kernel works with your CPU, you can use the SetCPU app that is available for $1.99 in the market, or for free from that thread (support the developer if you can, its worth it). This app will let you set what minimum and maximum frequencies you want (to overclock, underclock, etc), and how the CPU scales within that range. You can also use different governors, which affect the timing of that scaling from one frequency to the next based on different heuristic algorithms.
Vipermod
Vipermod is a mod that allows you to undervolt to a greater extent than what most kernels will come with. You see, kernel developers make their kernel with the target of stability, so they provide appropriate power at various frequencies to allow most users to enjoy it without further modification. That said, many phones are capable of using less power to effectively run at these frequencies, which will increase battery life. The tutorial to install and use the mod can be found on the thread, but just keep in mind that if a phone cannot handle a certain frequency, you'll get random reboots when the frequency scaling is tested. Hence, the general philosophy is to start by undervolting by -100mV, and if you get a random reboot, to increase by increments of 25mV until you no longer get those reboots. Personally, mine stopped rebooting at -50mV, and I've seen significant battery savings at this level.
Keep in mind that only certain kernels have the structure to allow this mod to work. When you try to run it, your phone will tell you if it can't run on that kernel (don't worry, it doesn't break anything, it just sucks).
Sysctl Config
The Sysctl Config app is available for free in the market, and allows you modify how your kernel frees up system resources (i.e., closes background apps, manages open apps, etc.). I won't go into what the settings mean (Google can do that for you), but the basic premise is this:
Ratio Values mean that the higher the number, the greater the percentage of app cache is stored in memory before being cleared by the system.
Cache Pressure means the pressure the system exerts on apps to close when pushed to the background.
Most kernels default with the settings of Dirty Ratio=20, Dirty Background Ratio=5, VFS Cache Pressure=100. If you change them to Dirty Ratio=95, Dirty Background Ratio=70, VFS Cache Pressure=1, it means that apps will keep cache handy longer (system resources used less frequently and smoother app use overall). Of course, you can experiment with those values, but this is dabbling with advanced kernel stuff so don't get too crazy.
V6 SuperCharger
I haven't gotten the opportunity to use the SuperCharger mod too much, but it looks to be beneficial in aiding how the internal memory structure works with OOM Groupings and lowmemkiller values. Some users report drastic increases in multitasking and battery life. It requires the Script Manager app, BusyBox 1.18.2 or lower, and the Autostart Script the mod's creator developed. The installation details are available on the thread.
I'll add more later, but this should get you started!
Sweet it might be easier to follow now I hope LOL.

Haha I hope so! Hopefully we can also get some more users of this rom, it really is underappreciated just because of its low profile on XDA.

It use to be more popular lol.
I have a suggestion for all the noobs on the forum these days maybe post the kernels that work with aosp with some links in the op so you don't get that question over and over again.
Just a thought.
Edit: another thought that would be cool if you posted links and howtos on V6 and vipermod in op .
That might draw some noobies in to this ROM and save on some questions being asked.

I am gonna try this now! Looks and sounds awesome.
Definitely a sweet rom. To me it had a different feel than most other
AOSP roms.

Good idea ... made that into the second post.
I didn't include the supercharger mod because I don't use it, so if you (or someone) could PM me with the thread its on (couldn't find it) I can check it out and provide a tutorial there too.

Your phantom voicemail icon? Like, from the depreciated Sprint Voicemail app?

I have the same phantom icon that shows I have a new voicemail every time it boots up. I cannot clear it or remove it.
BTW this ROM is amazing but I'm still having massive battery drain! Could it be an app? Im using Vipermod @ -75mA, V6 Supercharger, Tiamat 4.0.7 SBC and this newest nightly. It's like the most amazingly beautiful combo ever, yet it's owning me =(. Also did Fix Permissions in ROM Manager twice.
I'll try it...

Is this based on latest CM7 nightly #180 ?
so I can use metamorph themes?
Great AOSP ROM. Silky smooth even clocked down to 768 mhz and undervolted -100 mV.
Question: anybody else using GoLauncher? I'm having issues with GoWidgets (calender and message) loading after a reboot. No problems with any other widgets. I can uninstall and reinstall and they show up fine. I'm testing the 1.3.1 nightly. Tonight I'm going to try a stable release and see if I get the same thing.
Looking forward to getting more time with this puppy.
Very nice OP. Good Luck. By the way, Thanks for the links on your sig.

Have you checked spare parts? It sounds like there may be an app that is causing a wakelock, check to see if there is any partial wakelocks, sensor wakelocks, etc. There is also a number of battery monitor apps available in the market that will tell you what app is using all that power, so you can sniper it a bit more effectively. The only other thing I can think to recommend is a battery calibration, if you haven't done one in a while. It absolutely NEEDS to be done when coming from a Sense rom, but every once in a while I need to do it even though I'm an AOSP all-the-way guy. It just happens when you try new kernels. PM me with some photos showing the drain (after trying those methods, of course ) and I'll see if I can help you out.

It is not based on any CM7 nightly ... they customized AOSP from scratch. I can't tell you if metamorph themes will work, but if they are built for CM7, I would venture not. Just the T-Mobile Themer app.

I am an avid GO app user, and swear by Launcher EX. The widgets not showing up after a reboot does happen with me as well, but ONLY on a reboot after I clear dalvik cache and cache. The secret I've found to geting them back is that when they show up as that white box, remove them from the screen and reboot. Once rebooted, put them back on the screen and they show up fine. They will stay on reboots too, at least until you clear those caches again.
Btw, don't ask why it does this, I have no idea haha.

Running great and love the lockscreen options as well as the statusbar tweaks. Does anybody know of any gapps that actually restore your market apps. for what ever the reason I an never seem to find any that work. I use MyBackup Root but was just curious if anyone else had this issue.
Once again thanx for finally updating this and its helped my flashing addiction....

I've checked spare parts and the highest partial wakelock is Android Systen with 1m 57s and the highest sensor usage is Android System again with 46m 51s of total time. Nothing came close to those. Could you name to me one good app that monitors apps that drain battery? xD I'm using Battery Monitor Widget and System Panel Full. I've also calibrated the battery, no dice. I noticed on my Battery Monitor Widget that something is using 2mA while I'm charging with SBC. I know it's supposed to be using 0 mA -_-

It's theoretically SUPPOSED to do that, however it stays between 0 and 4mA (not a constantly 0 charge). The longer that you've had your battery, the more it does this.
One of the things that is rarely talked about with SBC is that it shortens the overall life of the battery. By gaining that 10% extra per charge on the frontend, it shortens the lifecycle of the battery significantly. Considering we replace our phone every year it rarely is a deal breaker, but the battery's ability to retain that superfull charge we all love about SBC lessens over time. Personally I believe it is totally worth it, but for people that hold onto their phone for more than a year, they sometimes need to get a new battery.
Out of curiosity, what kind of "massive battery drain" are you incurring? What kind of overall battery life / screen on time do you get, in hours?

[ROM] BakaG2X 2011-11-20 (FINAL RELEASE (maybe not)) [2.3.3]

BakaG2X 2011-11-20 (Final 2.3.3 Version - OR IS IT?)
---------
NOTE:
--
Here is a pretty clean and basic ROM based on the LG 2.3.3 OTA.
It is designed for those who want a good clean base to do their OWN addons to, while removing more bloat than was added.
This is the FINAL release of BakaG2X on 2.3.3. I will also release a 2.3.4 ROM, but it will be offered separately.
WiFi Calling is included as T-Mobile's signal is horrible. Thank you.
UPDATE NOTES:
This version cleans up a few things in the theme primarily, and sets a couple of tweaks that weren't done before. Not a big change over the previous version. The only build available comes with Wifi Calling. If you don't WANT wifi calling, you can simply remove Kineto.apk from the /system/app folder, and I recommend doing so if you don't use it.
The biggest theme change can be seen on the notification pulldown here, and I've updated that screenshot.
As before, bloat is available in the various bloat packs. If you have downloaded these before, you don't need to download them again, there have been no changes to those packs.
---------
CORE BUILD FEATURES:
11/20 - ICS Animations (capez) - tweaked animation speeds
11/20 - Remove Battery Full & Battery Low Warnings but I LEFT the last Shutdown Warning..
11/20 - init.rc support
11/20 - Increased SD Read Ahead Cache to 3072
11/20 - zipalign new apk's on bootup
11/20 - new quick panel icons from O2X (smaller / textless)
11/20 - shell utils: bash/nano/sysrw/sysro (if you don't know don't ask)
11/20 - a few theme tweaks (notification ticker, carrier text, etc)
11/17 - Three Flashable "Bloat" packs. You probably want at least one. SEE BELOW.
11/17 - Google Talk with Video
11/17 - Google Music (replaces stock Music.apk)
11/17 - Toggle 2G Settings & Widget (TheMasterBaron)
11/17 - Updated Google Apps as of 11-17.
11/17 - busybox & su binaries updated.
Reboot/Recovery Menu (untermensch / sicopat)
Quick Panel Settings (dreamsforgotten)
Accurate Battery Mod
Removed LG Update process (was running all the time using ~10-20mb)
Updated Google Apps as of 11/15
CM7 Apps: Torch, E-Mail, Keyboard, Calculator, Sound Recorder
GPS Tweaks for USA. SuplRootCert added.
Misc build.prop edits (for gps/modversion/adb persist notify off)
Adblock Host file.
Theme bits (startup/shutdown/Roboto font/CRT Off/Lockscreen, etc)
Of course it is fully zipaligned.
Note: All Bloat Packs install to user applications, so you can uninstall bits you don't want.
- This of course means you'd need to reflash Bloat packs if you happen to wipe.
BLOAT PACK 1: Recommended Bloat
Titanium Backup Free (it will detect if you have Pro key saved on SD)
MIUI Music
CM7 File Manager
Battery Calibration Tool
Wallpapers / Ringtones installed to SD for easy removal.
BLOAT PACK 2: Bloat T-Mobile Thinks You Want
AppPack, Books, T-Mobile-TV, Polaris Office, My Account,
Magic Smoke LWP, Visualizations LWP, Telenav, Zinio
Tegra Zone, NFS Shift, Nova.
Bloat Pack 3: Something I want and you probably don't.
Japanese Samsung iWnnIME Keyboard
KNOWN ISSUES - BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN NO SURPRISES
- Bluetooth may crash upon pairing. This is fixed in my 2.3.4 Rom, Tsugi.
- Kernels: I have tried both Faux123 and DragonG2X. They boot & Run, but have their own known issues. Cannot support them.
- Lockscreen lag. This is an issue with any LG based ROM. Some report it doesn't happen if you use certain 3rd party launchers.
- Toggle2G will ask for root permissions on bootup, and be denied automatically. You'll see a popup about that that goes away on its own. If you want to use the app, just open it manually and it will bring up the normal SuperUser prompt where you can approve superuser permissions.
- Stock Camera. If you want LG-Cam, you know how to get it.
- On the FIRST BOOT, the Media process will sometimes FC. It does not do this AFTER the first boot, and it doesn't always do it.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Flash the CORE DOWNLOAD first. Then flash any Bloat Packs you want. The Bloat Packs are not complete Roms. You must flash the CORE DOWNLOAD first, then select and flash any Bloat packs while you are still in CWM, or you can flash them later. Bloat packs don't wipe.
Looks legit, seems like you've got all the bases covered.
I'd like to try it this weekend, give you some feedback.
And thanks for the little tidbits of info, didn't know Wifi Calling sucked up battery even when not in use.

It was horrible on my Vibrant. I think it has improved on the G2X, but still not perfect. It receives notifications on all signal changes, even if you don't have it set up to use. I'm not sure if it does that if you're not on T-Mobile... best to remove the APK if you're not using it.
Going to give it a try
Good to see a new dev on here. I'm going to back up my rom and give this a shot. Will post results.

Did you check the md5 hash? It appears at least a couple others have successfully downloaded it, but I'll double check it.
When you say won't install - what happens?
In CWM it says "Installation Aborted" right after I try to start the install. I redownloaded a third time from another site using Firefox instead of Chrome and it worked. I like what I see so far! Thanks.

Could be the window animation effect. It animates the lock screen going away.... didn't mention that in the changelog.

Its not the animation. I see that. Pretty cool. But the home screen comes on, then flashes black, then comes on again. Only happens on the home screen, no other screen. Oddly enough, when turn animations off it does not do it. But I run "some animation" and you did nice work yours. Hate to waste it. so far everything is very smooth and noticeably faster than im used to.

Ahh, the homescreen lag. Yeah, I've seen that on a number of stock-based Roms.. something is up with LG's code. I've seen it go away and then come back, no idea what causes it. Doesn't happen on Cm7/MIUI roms. But, I need everything to work, so I don't use those.

no rom that isn't based on cm7, will be able to run theme chooser.
Wow awesome rom!
A version of this based on 2.3.4 without wi-fi calling would be the perfect rom though. Please consider?
no kernel for 2.3.4 and he said you can uninstall wifi calling, if u dont need it.
Hey, thanks for answering my question directed at someone else!!
The reason I asked is because the base 2.3.4 is much faster and more stable and has gtalk video.
