ICS on GSII is AMAZING! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Had to make a shout out for how excited I am to be so close to getting ICS on my SR. Just updated a friends international GSII and it is awesome. Hang tight SR bros its worth it!

ICS in action on SGS2 International:

It looks.. exactly the same.. I will have to wait for a rooted version with the stock android launcher and no touchwiz

I like it better on my g nexus. No touchwiz. Pure google ics....but the sgs2 ics is probobly cool too.

I'm much, much more excited to start seeing the AOSP ROMs roll out.

That's how I had it on my epic 4g touch
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk

Touchwiz looks so bad .

Main thing I'm excited about is the battery life lol my SR goes through battery life like a crackhead goes through .50 lighters on the first of the month

Twiz needs to evolve that's all, you would think all the heat from apple would make something completely different....
I won't be alone in saying that the only good this build brings is drivers and a good ics base for some real goodies
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727

I think touch wiz makes gingerbread better imho. I have a nexus s and the pure gingerbread experience kinda sucks. Ics is alot better in pure form .

AOSP ICS is the bees knees. I had it on my Inspire before switching to the SkyRocket. It is a sight and experience to behold.
Sent from low Earth orbit with my SkyRocket.

AOSP all the way once I experienced it it killed me to use anything else I can't wait to get a nice lightweight aosp rom that works properly

Depends on taste......CM7 i think has better performance, but Miui is the must have anyone that loves to customize there phone. it lets you change everything piece by piece but it has no app drawer unless you use a launcher to get it back otherwise all your apps will just be on the front pages.
there both great, but cm7 still has my vote on sheer smoothness and tweaks. but again i loved "ee"'s themes for Miui so who knows

It is very "iPhonish" when you first use MIUI; throw a lancher on it, though, and it's back to business as usual. Very slick, very smooth, very customizable (if that's a word). Oh, and it's based on CM 7.1 sources. I've tried all sorts of ROMs on my Inspire, but I always end up going back to MIUI, it's just too damn nice. Getting a SR soon, and I'd love to see a MIUI build for it.

I agree with this. Almost every aspect of MIUI is iPhone ripped. Throwing a launcher over top of it kind defeats the purpose of MIUI (IMHO).
I have used MIUI and it had horrible battery life, right up there with CM7. Personally I would never use MIUI or CM7 ever again (on one of my phones).
That being said
I have MIUI on my daughters phone because she loves the iPhone and since I am giving her my Captivate for Christmas and she really wants an iPhone, I decided to put MIUI on it to ease the pain. LOL
agreed,
women seem to love miui though......hence why i am trying to put it on my old cappy to give to my GF.
but am having issues with the drivers.
i dont mind CM7, with the right kernel the battery drain is not that bad......but yes it can get annoying to have plug your up to the wall every couple hours as a preemptive strike on your phone dying.

Ok. So what would it take to get MIUI ported onto SR? What's the process? I tried everything on my HD2 and i always ended up with MIUI. And now i upgraded to SR and would love to install MIUI on it. How to we initiate it?

HI ALL

Hi just got a SGS2SR for 149 upgrade price.
will be here today or tomorrow.
What is the rom everybody is running?
Is there a unlock for it?
BTW What case is everybody rocking for the skyrocket?
I flash something different every week but always come back to Skyicecream and Skyrocketeer. You can find root instructions in the development section.
I bought this case http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00687VCRO/ref=mp_s_a_2?qid=1325347009&sr=8-2
It's very thin and dosnt change the feel of the phone. Best of all it has raised edges so if you drop it on a flat surface nothing will touch the screen, perfect for people who hate screen protectors.

TPC V3 is a great rom. Very stable.if you're looking for belt holster check the surface combo case + holster from seidio.
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
Rooting depends on which version of android your skyrocket has. Tye on click will work 2.3.5 you need to use the odin method if your on 2.3.6 , and for a network unlock you need to go to
http://www.cellunlocker.net/
I have used superoneclick to root multiple times successfully and painlessly. The roms posted in the dev section all have their own merits...sky ice cream sandwich is my current fav, mostly because I'm a big fan of the ICS theme.
I prefer sky ice cream sandwich. Bln works great and very stable.
Sent from my Rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket running Sky Ice Cream Sandwich.
hey thats actually one of the few cases that aren't awful
I've flashed every rom and keep going back to BeastMod (tmobile rom). Flash your stock kernel (at&t/rogers) and push the touchwiz30 apk from our device (much smoother for some reason) and you have an awesome rom. Again to each their own this is just my 0.02
I'm starting to hear negative things about the development of this phone. Like it's the odd-ball of the GS2 family, and won't be developed on too much....

Yea a little due to the diff chipset which we need for LTE data. But on the other hand its the same as the T-mobile version and the Telus Hercules.(minus lte). So in some ways we have like 4 different phones that are one. If you count the skyrocket/gs2 lte (rogers) versions. I was a little worried at first too but I use the Tmobile section for roms more than this thread and they have a few good devs. Together it feels pretty solid. Also its pretty new too. I just really want ICS already and then I really couldnt care less lol

Were either of you expecting something else? If you thought it was going to be stock ICS then you're either on the wrong board or purchased the wrong phone.
It gets really old reading all of this whining about Touchwiz. This is the SKYROCKET forums. It comes with Touchwiz, always has and always will. Frankly if you two hate it so much why in the world did either of you purchase this phone?
Some of us are quite happy with Touchwiz and are excited to finally be seeing a complete and fully functioning ICS rom that could run on our phones.

I would like to ask, what exactly does this opinion have to do with the topic of this thread? As frankly it appears as if you just wanted to inject your negativity for no reason other than to rain on the parade of those that are excited about the update and are happy with their purchase of a Touchwiz skinned device.

No worries. ICS is no JB that's for sure, and truth be told ALL the awesome options available to the Blaze should be tried out! That's the great thing about having such options - you can start choosing based on preferences as opposed to basic functionality. I'm a smali hack at best - I would consider the other tinkerers for the Blaze to be far more qualified of a "developer" title than I really - so folks should really make sure to test the various waters as you never know what you might be missing!
Smali hacking isn't easy lol. I've learned a lot from you dwitherell

Theirs nothing wrong with the ROM. I just haven't seen anything so far that makes this phone noticeably better than the mytouch 4g which is what I switched from

Well single core to dual core, NFC, slightly larger screen, 4g 42mbps, larger capacity battery, and adreno 220 are things that I would consider better. At my dad's house near Minneapolis I can pull 20+mpbs on 4g...
But at the end of the day, you still are running android and that's not going to change much... and if you liked sense than you will likely not like TW. No guarantee that you also wouldn't like aosp either (my wife doesn't - she prefers sense). My wife has a sensation 4g and I see a major difference between her phone and my blaze. I prefer the blaze, because of those features listed (and access to the sd card without having to dissemble the phone to get to it) and I prefer TW (using TW5 launcher) to any sense rom. Sense just seems bloated to me and the Blaze just seems to be more responsive.
But hey, they're just phones and everyone is entitled to their own opinions and can like whatever they choose to like

I'm actually running CM7 on my Mytouch 4G. I agree with you on sense feeling bloated. As far as the screen size, when I put the phones next to each other you really can't notice an increase in size.
