[Q] Phone keeps rebooting. Help please! - HTC Inspire 4G

Hi guys,
I know there's been lots of cases such as this but I am frustrated and don't know what to do. Been searching for answers but couldn't find an exact answer pertaining to my problem.
I recently flashed Coredroid to my Inspire 4g and for some reason, every time the screen times out, my phone hot-restart's by itself.
Anyone know what's going on?

what did you have on there previously? did you full wipe? data/cache/dalvik? are you overclocking or undervolting?which version of coredroid? and what did you use to flash the rom?

I had LeeDroid V5.1.1.
I did full wipe/data/cache/dalvik. Not overclocking or undervolting. (Don't like to mess with them)
I'm currently using Coredroid v9.4
Used ClockworkMod for flashing.

anything installed aftermarket? like battery mods or boot screens or stuff from the kitchen?
possibly a corrupt install or download, but wanna get as much info before guessing starts

Nope. Everything is CoreDroid stock. Can I safe to assume that it's the Rom itself?

I recently just switched roms to Android Revolution and it works just fine. I redownloaded and reflashed CoreDroid and it's still doing the same thing. Could it be that there's something wrong with the Rom itself or the tweaks?

What radio are you using? Haven't really heard of radios causing crashes like this but it is possible.
Did you format your SD card too? Files from a previous OS on a SD card can cause this issue.
You mentioned that the ROM is all stock. Did you use any apps to restore apps and files?

Radio: 12.56.405.1.
Kernel 2.6.35.14
Yeah, I started making assumptions that it's probably either the radio or kernel but it just doesn't make sense. Everything works perfectly with Android Revolution.
No, I did not format my SD card. Is that recommended for every time I flash a new Rom? (sorry if I'm a bit inexperienced at these things)
Update:
Backed up my SD and reformated it. Still does it.
Rom is in every way, stock. The only app I used to restore my apps is the market, which is not 'google play' or w/e.

It is not needed to format SD card but it is to format System and data before a new rom flash. Mainy when one is build from an DHD port and the other is an Inspire based rom.

I rooted following raep video on youtube, parts 1 and two.
flashed with the rom and zip in the description.

now where's my sound?
You now need to install a Rom besides that downgraded one.

and what rom would be a good choice?
(if i install a new rom, does that wipe all the apps i have on currently? because that would suck)
You'll get varying opinions as to what ROM but I prefer CM7. To save your apps, install Titanium Backup(TB) and backup all of them, put your ROM of choice on the sd card, nandroid backup everything for any oops that may occur then wipe/factory reset and flash your rom. Once your booted, reinstall TB and use it to recover your apps from the backup created on the sd card.
I did this coming from my Aria to the Inspire and only a few didn't make the trip.
Tx
EDIT: be sure to sync all your contacts to Google before flashing so you can get them back should you choose CM7. It doesn't read ATT sims.
Some do some don't, depends what the devs decides/ puts in the updater script. I think its better to wipe everything anyway especially if your new to avoid any possible problems. You can always back up with titanium backup, then restore your apps when you install the new Rom, just only back up apps and their data, avoid anything with /system.

Nandroid never works for me... what am I doing wrong?

Ok. So ever since I've had this device it's been rooted and as such, i've tried a number of roms. The problem is whenever I start with a rom I really enjoy (currently the stock one... go figure) then i do a nandroid back up.. try a new one.. to find some glaring shortcoming i just have to have (a2dp) and try to restore my nandroid. On my G2 this process was absolutely seamless!
What happens is i restore nandroid... but it doesn't restore my apps... all the space is definitely gone.. like they're in teh file system and cards... but they don't show up in teh launcher and my wallpaper is back to stock... just as if i had a stock device.
Any ideas?

What version of CWM are you using?
Sent From My G2x Running CM7 Nightly 70
Are you initiating the backups thru rom manager or directly from recovery? If you're initiating them from rom manager try booting directly into recovery and then making a backup.
I'm using 3.0.2.7 (the one that rom manager tells me to use). but i always backup while booting directly into CWRM because as we all know... Rom Manager doesn't see the external SD but CWRM does.
I would reflash CWM again.
Do a Nandroid, put it in the sd card and try restoring again.

I think your problem is that you're using rom manager. Try doing it the real way (nvflash).
Rom manager is great on phones in which it doesn't use fakeflash, but I would stay away from the program on phones in which it utilizes fakeflash.

Only appropriate answer is to try it for a day or 2 and decide for yourself
Coming from the epic and never rooting my previous evo I never knew what the big deal with cm7 was.
After running it, it is pretty awesome.
Some of the reasons are the advanced settings menu the customization options in there are nice. Other people will say because the nightlies. I don't ever run them.
But truly you must test it and decide for yourself. Best advice I could give ya

nexus s 4g don't have a sd card, doesn't it get wiped when you reset? or do you mean do a tb and copy it off somewhere then copy back and restore?

The SD card is left untouched for everything but when you first unlock the bootloader.
but there is no sd card in the 4g i'm confused.
There is a folder called SDCARD which acts as a non-removable SD Card, I guess.
Benefits of CM7 are many more features and tweaks. I liked being able to rotate the phone 180 degrees, even on the desktop / main screen. There are so many other customization options, I can remember what's in stock anymore
Now I'm on MIUI though. It has many features I like, but I still miss some from CM7.
As stated nandroid back up your current system. And TB your apps.
Flash any rom you want to try. Restore your apps if you like what you see and want to really test it out.
If not wipe and flash a different rom. Or nandroid back to your current rom.
As long as you don't wipe the SD card everything stays there except for the android secure folder. You can even move your nandroid to a computer if you want.
Just my personal opinion, I would choose stock rooted for stability. I've never found, to the best of my forgetful memory, a cyanogenmod rom that was completely stable without weird snafus. I'm not talking about nightly or beta either. Those are even more unstable.
First off, judging by your question and lack of understanding of what happens when you root/flash custom roms you should really do more research. Read in the development section about rooting, read a few guides in fact. Read other people's questions before, during, and after rooting. Read instructions for flashing custom roms, again paying attention to others question before, during, and after.
This is a great thread when it comes to how to flash roms, themes, and kernels but the information regarding roms is severely outdated.
As for your primary question, there is no answer. Try it. You don't like it? Try another? That one still not quite right? Try another, and another, and another. Still not liking anything, learning to theme isn't hard, especially with the UOT Kitchen. No one can tell you what will work for you, your life, and your phone.
actually i am rooted and have matr1x kernel installed, i also am rooted on my xoom with tiamat 2.2.2, i really wanted to know what real benefit cm7 would give me over stock...

There is so much the CM offers. Basically CM gives you the option to do whatever you want to your phone. I personally enjoy the DSP Manager app, the power options that are added, and theme Chooser the most. The best way to get an idea of the features is to look at a changelog for our device. It will tell you everything that has been added/subtracted from the ROM. For me, the new stable release and the Trinity 1.2 kernel is rock solid. Haven't had a single reboot since flashing

That's weird.
Are you s-off or s-on?
Have you tried multiple ROMS? (Bruce'ss CM10, AOKP, that new minimalist CM10?)
If you've just tried one, start by redownloading the ROM. You will get the instalation aborted error if the ROM.zip is bad.
Also, did you do a full wipe (Not superwipe) from 4EXT? You will need to if going from ICS to JB. But that shouldn't prevent the ROM from installing (it just won't work properly).
//nvm
S-OFF, FUL wipe coming from ISC re-downloaded rom like 6 times and iv'e tried them all they wont install yet ICS rom's will

I HATE problems like this because they make absolutely no sense. They are the ones that make you want to lay your phone down on the sidewalk and bash it repeatedly with a cinder block. So I understand your pain!
The worst part is that they almost always have the simpliest sollutions imaginable.
Are you using 4EXT or CWM?
Has a JB rom ever worked on your phone?
Can you install a fresh ICS ROM from scratch (meaning not just restore a nandroid) just to make sure recovery is working properly?
No matter if ICS installed fresh or not, you might try reflashing recovery. Maybe that's what's borked up somehow. Plus it' sone of those thigns that can't make it worse so why not try it?

It's stupid, but it's a thing. Formatting the SD card has been known to solve a variety of ROM problems, app problems, and help with male pattern baldness. It's the goofiest thing, but it works randomly.

Thanks for the quick reply, but can you tell me where to get the stock ROM too? Is it available on the HTC website? I have searched other posts but there seems to be no link for HBOOT 1.29
Here's arhd 7.2, a modified and improved version of stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14191938
Hboot version doesn't really matter. It's just the way the phone boots up.
If you want to revert to complete stock, no modifications, no improvements, then I would run the .exe ruu file from your computer. Here's the links for the .exe files: http://www.shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Pyramid
Make sure you download the right ruu (XE or 4g) for your phone and the right country/carrier for it.

It has happened both when I'm charging and when it's not plugged into anything. It happens worst, and most often when the phone heats up, which is a big issue with CM. Part of the reason i wanna switch back to Stock ROM is to prevent any permanent damage to the internals with this frequent overheating. The battery stays cool, mind you.

I had mentioned charger because i have a China charger and when my phone is charging and i lay it on a flat surface it touches itself everywhere whenever i touch somewhere. this happens to me due to incompatible charger. however i still charge with that charger. well this is my problem, yours is different.
I am not sure but I think there must be prominent links on Google containing stock roms. I have never searched for android but Nokia used to have dedicated softwares and websites for this.
And a free advice: if you want sense then try viper s Rom with sense 4.1 and android ics. (the one with jb doesn't have a working camera). I am using this and sense 4.1 is really good.
it is laggy though.
