[Q]Upgraded to ICS - Can't root - HTC Sensation

I just upgraded to the official ICS by HTC, and before I had upgraded, I had used Titanium Back Up to back up my files, anyway I can root my phone or use the Titanium Back Up files to restore my phone?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542555
do that

Whereas that will work there is a much easier way of doing it...
To the OP - are you still S-OFF? If so, you need to flash CWM using a PG58IMG.zip and then flash the SuperSU package in CWM
If you're S-ON with HBOOT 1.27.0000 then you will have to wait for Revolutionary to update their package to be able to gain S-OFF again

go back to stock tmous rom

I want to go back to stock tmous Rom ...I have s-off root and clock work recovery and super cid
.....I still want s-off but I want get rid of root and recovery....and install stock tmous ruu. And was wondering if I do a ota will it give me s-on..
You already wrote how to do it.
Run the RUU for T-Mobile.
You'll still be S-OFF after OTA.
I still have a backup of s-off, unroot stock rom. I like the ARHD rom but I can't play kingdoms at war on my web browser so I have to restore my stock rom so i can play that game again on my sensation.
I did a nandroid back up it is unrooted but I have s off....I have cw recovery and was wondering if I could do ota with custom recovery
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
afaik you cant run the ota update wile having a custom recovery. your best bet is to restore your stock rom by running the ruu of your provider (this also removes root) and than run the ota update

What I'm Missing??

I have a Sensation S-OFF via revolutionary plus supercid and since some time i used with stock rom, the last one used was Pyramid_htc_europe_1.50 "http://www.filefactory.com/file/c0a7842/n/RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.50.401.1_R_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_228602_signed.exe". Bored with this rom tried to install an LE version the last Pyramid_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.25 from "http://www.filefactory.com/file/c21da0d/n/RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.25.401.101_Radio_11.68.3504.00U_11.21.3504.13_2_test_237696.exe". Via normal RUU the installatin wasn't possible (error 155), so extracted rom.zip renamed to PG58IMG.zip and installed succesfully.
***LOCKED***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL

I downloaded from market SUPERUSER aplication, installed. so i have superuser v3.0.7 (41) and su binary vnull. checked for updates and the result was, checking installed version = legacy??? i pushed the update button and su binary 3.0.3.2 was installed sucesfully???
What I'm Missing? Is this methode possible?
Tried to install some aplications who require root in order to function properly as Titanium back up, all OK, i sucessfully restored some previously backed-up data. Installed 4ext recovery from market and changed to the lat touch 4ext recovery, all ok, restarted and nothing changed.
i have root, i have a cusom recovery and all applications are functioning ok.
So, What I'm Missing??? Is this methode possible?
Don't worry, your still s off so you are good. May I ask why you are flashing official RUU from different regions? Why not just flash some custom ROMS they have more mods and they are easier to switch back and forth. Be careful now that 1.27 h boot cannot run GB ROM, you will bootloop if you try, you'll have to downgrade to the 1.23 h boot as it can run both GB and ICS. Also, I don't understand what it is you are asking.
In order to flash GB Roms like Rhiannon224 said you'll have to downgrade H-Boot 1.23.
For a lot of Information i would suggest you This Thread
And Touchcovery (4ext recovery Touch) try 4Ext Updater

[Q] Sensation XE ICS OTA Update Root?

Hay, I have searched and searched but have been unable to find anywhere...
How to root Sensation XE with official ICS OTA Update?
I have tried to follow the guide for hboot / clockwork / root and CID but it won't let me install clockwork!! It states there is a modelid mismatch - i am using the same clockwork files as i did before
Went from
1.17 hBoot with s-off
CWM 5.0.2.0 (stock for OTA upgrade)
1.73.401.4 rooted rom
To
1.27.0000 hBoot with s-off
Stock (wont let me flash CWM)
3.32.401.105 with SU and busy box but No root access
Anybody able to shed some light on this please?
Which SU package did you use?
I haven't used a SU package yet, they need CWM or 4EXT to flash don't they?
I have the SU and busy box package still on the system from the old rom. That is they were both up to date before the OTA upgrade
I am guessing i have to get a custom recovery then reflash a SU package to get full root back, but i can't get it to flash the recovery. I have now tried CWM 5.0.0.8, 5.0.2.0 CWM Touch 5.... and the 4EXT Touch recovery using PG58IMG.zip method and every time it says modelid mismatch. All the recoveries are for Sensation and the CWM classic ones are the same files i used on my phone with GB
Ok so i think i have figured it out, to install the recovery using PG58IMG.zip method, do i need to change the modelid in the zip?
My modelid is: PG5813001 (XE) and the flash is for: PG5813000 - just changing the modelid would work would it not?
Also, does anybody have the stock recovery for ICS...so i can reflash it after using custom recovery to install SU??

Me too. wish I had never ota upgrade now
Assuming you didn't do it already: SuperCID using the guide you mentioned and rename ClockworkMod to PG58IMG. I have had the same problem and SuperCID solved it for me. And it's easier as well, as you don't have to add your CID to every item you want to flash. About the root issue: Another issue I had as well. It seems it is really hard at best to root a stock ICS. I migrated to a pre rooted custom firmware to solve it. Android Revolution in my case. Like it better than stock anyway. And with SebastianFM's kernel, the multi touch issue is addressed as well.
same here, I have exactly the same problem
stock recovery after ICS OTA update won't allow me to flash CWM i already tried using all other PG58IMG zip.
I'm still searching other threads that may help though, should you find one buzz me please...
sorted now. Flashed 4ext recovery as PG58img. sorted by steve0007

I already SuperCID, I don't get you regarding renaming clockwork to PG58IMG
stock recovery on Official ICS wont flash previous CWM recovery...
You migrated to a pre-rooted custom firmware...you mean you installed it without being root? are you saying you now have root access using the pre rooted firmware? can you share a link of that pre rooted firmware..
Here's 4EXT in PG58IMG.zip form. Flash via HBOOT (not stock recovery)

By renaming Clockwork to PG58IMG I mean that the bootloader itself can flash Clockwork when it's renamed. When starting at the bootloader screen the file will be scanned and you will either get an error (for example Model ID incorrect when your Carrier ID doesn't correspond) or you will be asked whether you want to install or not. In your case, you should be fine. As far as I know it's the only way outside of Android to install a recovery tool.
And about installing Android Revolution: Just check the ARHD thread in Android Development. It contains everything you need to know and various links to additional requirements.

Another thing: The ARDH thread will mention root access, but I noticed that it only seems to be required for some of the mentioned backup tools that operate from within Android and thus obviously require root access to function. But Android Revolution itself and the other stuff that need to be flashed from outside of Android do not require root access in my own experience. With me, it works just fine. One final standard warning: Proceed at your own risk.

[Q] XE stock rom S-off Rooted CWM, OTA ICS upgrade

Hi,
unfortunately again the same kind of question but did not find a straight answer to it.
Can you help me ?
Many thanks in advance
What I want
I want to upgrade using the OTA ICS upgrade I just received on my phone.
But, it does not work. Starting the installation, the phone reboot then stay stuck on a picture with warning sign !
I want to upgrade from the OTA file as I don't want to re-install and configure all the phone again !
How-to ??
Shall I try to un-root and uninstall CWM ? How?
Or, simply install the received OTA upgrade file from CWM option update from SD file ?
Or, something different ? Which steps to follow
Or, the only solution is to reinstall full stock rom ?? worst case !
Situation:
unbranded Sensation XE
stock rom 2.3.4, Sense 3.0. Software version 1.73.401.4
Revolutionary S-Off, Root and CWM using XDA tutorial http://cleanimport.xda/index.php?threads/1192300/
Accessing the boot (Switch On button + volume down), this brings the following:
-Revolutionary
Pyramid PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.17.1111
Radio-10.14.9035.02-2
eMM-boot
The phone has been rooted and I installed ClockWorkMod CWM 5.0.0.8
The OTA file I received is OTA_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R-1.73.401.4_release251962...zip
Unroot using the Gingerbread RUU. Then flash the original HBOOT through ADB. At this point, on your phone, check for updates or install the ICS RUU. If that doesn't work , extract the ROM.zip from the RUU.

Hi usaff22,
thanks for the fast and straight answer...
Correct my if I'm wrong, but applying the Gingerbread RUU will reinstall the complete ROM.
Doing this, the telephone will be completely refreshed. All config/apps/data will be gone isn't it ?
This was precisely what I was trying to avoid.
If there is no other solution, then that's life. Cryinggggg....

[GUIDE] ROOT after ICS OTA upgrade

Hi all,
I was once root and S-OFF (thanks to revolutionary) under official Gingerbread.
Then I wanted to upgrade to ICS, using the OTA update.
For that, I followed one of the many guides available (flashing first the stock recovery using Recovery Manager).
Of course, ICS comes with HBOOT 1.27.0000, so, I was still S-OFF but with the pink "LOCKED" keyword, and no possibility to root...
So, once your are in this situation, here are the steps to follow:
1 - Start into Fastboot (if you are already S-OFF, you are supposed to know how to get there)
2 - Set superCID by issuing the command fastboot oew writecid 11111111
3 - Install 4EXT recovery (or CWM) as described in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565495
4 - Remove PG58IMG.zip file from the root of your sdcard
5 - Download Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ and copy it to the root of your sdcard
6 - Start in recovery and install zip from sd card
7 - Reboot your device
8 - Make sure that your have the Superuser application installed (available on the market)
You're done, you have permanent root!
HI
I have S-ON and PInk *UNLOCKED* but my rooted apps are being denied super user access, how to I get themm root access once more after the OTA ICS update.
HBOOT is at 1.27.0000 can it be done, or should I just wait for the one click tool as I am not sure what I am doing with andriod having come from WM OS
Sorry, the guide above works only if you were S-OFF prior to upgrading to ICS... I think you'll have to wait until revolutionary guys find a way through HBOOT 1.27.0000
