I'll be traveling next month to a country where the electricity output is 220v.
Can i used the charger over there or i need a adaptor?

You only need the physical adapter that makes your charger fit in the wall outlet. In case you don't have it included. I have an US Transformer and live in Europe, just bought the plug adapter.
Take a look at the charger, it should say 110-240V.

my dad recently lend me his XDA IIs and i was wondering if i can charge it in my car using a usual ac chager (the one with the cig socket on the end and a circle ac with a yellow tip on the other) because the package came with an XDA IIs Connector Adapter.. a small connector that connects to the bottom of the xda and a plug where the xda 2 charger for the cradle on the other end..
can i use it to connect it with a normal AC plug for cars?
thanks a bunch!
ligther plugs from cars give DC i'm pretty sure not AC
and you may want to look at connectors in wiki
because ipaq's have the same plug as xda's
but different wireing and if the charger is made for ipaq's
then you need to mod them
you can buy xda2 2020i car chargers from any o2 shops for £19.99
jim
oh yeah cars give DC. sorry my bad.
my connector came with the xda IIs unit so i'm pretty sure its for the xda. i'm just thinking if i can charge it with a norml car cig plug DC.
well if the connector is the same
and + and - is connected the same
and it give the same volts
then you can use it
hmmmm + and - eh? hmm.. yeah.. i think it'll work. thanks!
It will not.
You need a 5 V DC outlet to your XDA II.
If you plug 12 V DC in you'll see what happens.

Charging XDA2 from in-car charger
It does work fine. Have done this using 4.5v/600mA regulated dc/dc adaptor with plug matching that used on original XDA2 mains adaptor - centre is positive, outer negative . I know that mains unit is 5v/2A but my car adaptor works fine in car and boat. Of course you're not feeding 12v directly to your XDA.
thanks for the replies! yep. i wont put in 12v.. thanks for the advice. i'll probably do the same with tomdick. nice one. thanks.
The wall charger (micro usb cable and plug) is way too short to be useful to me. I bought a cheap one off ebay, and it barely fits. I'm afraid to use it because it's so hard to unplug once you get it in. Anybody have any good suggestions for a longer wall charger that actually fits.
What about trying a retractable female-to-male USB extension cable to run between the wall outlet adapter and the HTC USB cable? I believe most PC and cell phone accessory stores sell them for around $5 - $10 and will extend up to around 3 - 4 additional feet. Here's a link to one that's in stock at HTC Depot...

Yeah...I have one.
At least that way you aren't cramming something that doesn't fit into the phone and risking damaging the USB port.
i brought a couple of micro USB cables from meritline it took 2 weeks for them to come here. it cost me $4 including shipping for 2 cables. They ship then from HK. So far I am using this cable in my office and have not has any issue
I currently use a 5' male to female USB "extension cord"... Been using it for years and highly recommend the setup.
On another note, if someone were to trip over the cord, it has an extra breakaway point now... I believe it cost me $5 for two of them... Gave the other as a gift...

Could you post a link to the cord you got with the breakaway point? I would really like to get something like that, I have tripped over my cord wayy too many times, even ended up bending the micro-usb tips.

In the past I have bought longer usb cables and just had them shipped from Hong Koing as well. However, recently I just ran out to Walmart and paid $10 for a 4 foot usb cable and charger. Though you can get it for cheaper, I needed it right away.
I just ordered a standard Android USB cable and plug it into a USB extension cable. Works fine for me.
I use a blackberry 1.5mm data cable

The best place to buy cables, or get cables is a local hotel...
they may give to you if you are nice... but always offer half price...
they may take you in a lost and found room where you can pick what you like...
I use the usb from my car charger which is like 5 feet long just look for those they might be cheaper than the regular wall charger

Im looking for and bought on ebay is one of those square ac/usb extra battery chargers along with a true samsung droid charge cable like what I got with the oem phone. Eveything I am finding is either generic or a samsung cable that is generic or from a different samsung phone. The one that actually came in the box with my phone seems to fit the best over all that I have tried or bought.
Micro USB only come in one size. Each one will prob have different voltage or what not but should fit the same as your stock cord.

Partly true-all microUSB comes in the same size. However, all USB operates at 5V, so there is no voltage difference. Amperage may vary from charger to charger though. A normal USB port is designed to run at 500 mA. The stock charger can provide up to 1A, but the kernel regulates it. I have an LG cable for charging in my car, and my OEM cable roams around my house.
So, are you looking for a battery charger or a phone charger?

Not looking for the batteries as I just use the charger. Ended up buying one and the battery will sit around as I have enough. I did also buy some samsung usb cables but again none look or connect as well as the one that came with the phone for some reason. They work so thats what counts.
I have a Charger adapter that I got with my GalaxyS years ago. It is the type that you just plug in your standard USB cable into it then plug into a cigarette lighter in your car. My question is does the S4 have the same voltage and amp requirements as older Galaxys so I can use this adapter now for my S4?
Thanks

It seems from what I have read after Goggling that is "might" work but most people seem to recommend a 2amp model that has the cord built in not the plug in USB type.
U can use 2.6amp or lower. Older chargers are probably 1amp or lower so that's fine. But it'll charge slow compared to a 2amp ones which is what I use. U can buy a pny brand car cigarette usb adapter 2amp output for $7 on amazon and oem usb cable for $3.

I was using older chargers with my S4 also but it was taking way too long. I got a 2amp one for home and one for the car and now it charges properly.
you might find that the gps will eat the batter faster than it can charge using an old 1amp charger, recomended to get a 2A one for sure
Would I be risking any damage by using my Motorola car charger?
It will be fine I used to use my BlackBerry charger for mine
U can use Motorola or blackberry chargers. Motorola actually makes good chargers.

Thanks for all the info guys.
Will this charger be safe?

I've read that chargers can damage the phone, but it seems to be debateable. I also have a motorola wall charger that has an output listed as 5V=850mA
Is that one safe to use as well? I've used these two charges with my old phones, but I want to make sure its safe to use with the S4.
I bought these

Hey Guys well i think that 12 AMP professional balance charger is the best and avalible on low price. Its best for that solutin. Thanks!!
Hello, could anybody please measure the weight of the charger? Thanks.
Weight will be dependant on region - the charger is just a micro usb 3 cable and then a plug adapter for your region. The same as most phones these days.

Thanks. So, unlike the power adapters for laptops, it shouldn't add much total weight.
