Updating Android Market on custom roms - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

I've noticed on several custom roms the android market is not being updated nor i was being prompted to upgrade it. Why is that? Can anyone help? I want to update to the newest android market. Thanks in advanced

[APP] Google Mail 2.3.2

Hi,
attached is the new version of gmail.
with friendly greet
starbase64
i have rooted Desire with AuraxTsense rom ... g mail is "locked" to the rom so i can't uninstall it or update...
is possible to have a renamed .apk (just like for googl maps "brut modded") so i can install both and then use the updated one? or where i can found it? tnx
I have this on my Vibrant but it still doesn't have the priority inbox feature.
I managed to find the apk on one of the Samsung forums shortly after its announcement - using a MIUI build on my HD2, and it didn't like pasting the new Gmail over the old one in /system/app/, nor removing the old one and pasting the new one - it was still showing the previous version without the priority inbox and so forth. To fix this, I had to restore the original Gmail apk that I'd backed up, then clear data from the settings/applications menu, then paste the new apk, then install over it from the market.
Native Android users will need to be rooted to do this, if it wasn't obvious.

You should be able to remove the original with Titanium Backup, then you should be good to go.
You people do know that this is available from the Market, and will update the version in your phone's /system folder just fine.
Right?

Apparently they don't... I updated it yesterday here from the market, although I don't use the GMail app at all...
The update is not yet available to everyone. TBH I cannot see most of the Google apps in the market myself.
This is just an opportunity for those less fortunate to mess around with it.

Yes indeed you can download atrackdog from the market and it should say version number you have and wether there is an update or not

Menu/apps/all or running/market.... it will say what version you have at the top... I don't think all of the roms are setup to work with any market
Yeah my thoughts but like I said if you know what you are doing or at least make a back up of the old market apk just in case it forcloses or even a nadroid, it won't hurt lol

Sorry but not seeing backup old market or nand in your instructions...
Usually if it doesn't work you can just uninstall update in menu
Just checked my version, looks like I've been running this version for 3-4+ months now

Usually when someone says " like I said" that means they already stated it. Sorry I thought you'd of understood what I was saying. Carry on
yeah looks like this is old news lol. CM7 has had 2.3.6 for a while now.
For those wanting to check your Market version, no need to download an app to do it. Just go Settings > Applications > All Apps > Market.
thx

I am running Cyanogen 6.1.0. It has the old market. I downloaded the apk you provided, then used APK Manager to install it. It reported the application was not installed and sure enough I still have the old Market.
Any ideas how I can upgrade?
Umm weird, it should overwrite the old market
Try deleting old market using root explorer the ln reinstall new market

I did try delete the old Market using Titanium Backup, and it did delete it. Then I installed the new Market using several installers, but the installers all say "Application not installed".
Did you try to move the apk to system/app ? Then reboot?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I did and it just would not show up in my apps. Eventually I came across a file someone put up which I flashed and it did install the new market. So, I am OK now.
alrighty good for you

Confirmed: Netflix App Working on X10

The Netflix app has been released onto the Android Market. However, it is limited to a few devices and the X10 isn't one of them.
BUT...I downloaded the apk from the site below to test it out and voila! Working NETFLIX!

How to trick Netflix into thinking your device is supported (Only do this if the Netflix app says that your device is not supported, otherwise it is not necessary.) :
1. Open any Root file explorer and navigate to /system
2. Edit your build.prop file and modify the following lines:
ro.product.model=""
You may input any one of the supported devices, i.e, the HTC G2: ro.product.model=HTC Vision
Note: This does require that your device is rooted and running 2.2 Froyo or above.
3. Reboot your phone
4. Download the .apk (If you're running jerpelea's CM7 ROM, then it should be directly available from the Android Marketplace. )
Works for me! Using Wolbreak's 6.1.3 v6

Anyone elses Netflix stop working on froyo? Says new version Available then tries to link to market where it comes up not available.
Works fine on mine. It's available for download on the market, and for me anyway...
Sent from my X10 TripNMiUI-IRIS using XDA Premium App
If you're running GB the link will come up directly in the market.
For those of us who are having issues. I found this link to the updated app in another thread.
http://dc341.4shared.com/download/_lpe355u/Netflix_121_build_843839-120-3.apk
Works fine on Wolf's 8.1 ROM (bb 55).
I'm almost afraid to update the app, it works great.
HS this is awesome..!!
Using market version, but says my device must be updated , WB V5, tried already the HTC Vision fix, but didn't work.
The error is displayed when trying to instant watch.

On root explorer long press on the build.prop, and a pop up menu will pop up.
choose the option open in text editor.
after you find the line and edit it press the menu key and choose save and exit.
Netflix should work on all Androids now with 2.2+. I've installed it on both Wolf's latest and the TEAM rom as well.
I just downloaded the application and it works fine ... although I can't update. Not available for my country.... in Android Market.
I'm using 2.3.3 stock rom
For me it says its not Available in my Country. Any other Canadians having this issue. It's works perfectly fine, I just have to keep finding the updated APK from other sources.

It's an apk, you should open and install it. Not sure how it worked with cwm for you.
First of all why does this apk name end by 1 while all others end by 2?
Second thing is that I couldn't install it.
I've tried the normal installation, but it tells me it wasn't installed.
I also tried to manually move it to both /system/app and /sdcard/system/app, but it doesn't appear in the apps list.
How on Earth do I have to do it?
*Update*
OK I found out that for some reason the Rocket ROM v22 old Market apk was called Phonesky.apk (OK...) so I only needed to rename it and replace it with the new APK by using then the same name.
While I was going into the Android Market, the new Play Store kicked in and it got installaled into my phone.
I shared it for who hasn't received it yet
What changed?

I opened market this morning and found the Play menu items with existing Market 3.4.4. I installed 3.4.6 from Post 1 and other than the heading changing from market to Play, has anything else changed?
Cant install on ROMOW V8. i replaced the phonesky.apk for this file and renamed the new, rebooted phone but market stayed the same. Also can`t install as simple apk. plz help.

Sorry for ruining your party but...
The new Google Play 3.4.6 is obsolete already!
Google Play 3.4.7 was released earlier this afternoon. I've attached the new version but for reason I can't always upload my files although they're within the guidelines. Go figure.
Enjoy lads

Anyone have any alternate ideas for installing?
I found the APK but install results in Parse Error : There is a problem parsing the package.
Tried putting it in System/APP and rebooting, didn't work either. Trying to install latest version so that I can use utter! (app developed here - XDA) offline.

In my opinion, the problem of parsing the package has nothing to do with ICS.
Check the folder /system/app to see if you have the Google Service Framework or related apks. If not, download a framework, install it and try again.
Some ROM cooker deleted the framework for some reasons, just like the CM10 I'm using now.

Or you downloaded the JB Version with Google Now!?

Because there is no LiquidSmooth JB let alone an official release of JB for my phone. Refuse to install even a custom ROM if there isn't an official ROM out even if they do not coincide. And I already have Google Now on it, but its not the newest version with offline voice commands which is what I primarily need it for.
Parsing error is due to incomplete download too. Try downloading it again.
