Skyrocket Case/Holster Review - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

About a week ago, I ordered a Case/Holster combo from Amazon. I already had a normal case, but I am a real holster kind of guy. I received it tonight (was apparently in my PO Box since Saturday ) and quickly tore my new toy open. Here are my impressions-
SkyTouch Hard Cover Combo Case Holster for AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket i727 (search this on Amazon to find it)
Cost- $12.98 ($8.99 + $3.99 s&h)
I love this case! Unlike the Otterbox's I had with my iPhones, there is almost no way this phone will fall out of this holster. It is blocked on both sides and the bottom. Comes out from top only. It slides in and out easily, but snug enough that you cant shake it loose. Of course, it sits face-in and the holster has a soft velvet type padding where the screen sits. The holster also serves as a kickstand.
Here is the only complaint/curiosity I have with it- The phone can only sit in the holster with the screen facing in, so the kickstand is pretty much useless. IT does not upset me really. Actually, it made me laugh a little at the oversight/absurdity. Still, this combo is a wonderful setup. I have included some pics for your viewing. I hope this helps someone who might be researching before purchasing a new case.

I ordered the SkyTouch case based on this review and like it. It provides a secure holster without the bulk of an Otterbox Defender.
For those looking for info on cases there is a thread here that discusses various cases.
Edit: The belt clip on the holster part of the case can not be removed but it does swivel allowing the holster to be used vertically or horizontally.
After using this for a couple of weeks I really like it. It is secure when in the holster. The ridged back makes a good grip surface. The snap on case for the phone provides protection but is minimalist in appearance. I feel it makes the phone look better rather than cover it up like a Commuter case does.

Looking for a Case + Holster Combo that works/fits

I'm looking for case for my Epic and also a holster that will hold the phone with the case attached. I tried to do this with my HTC Arrive but the case made the phone so bulky that I could barely squeeze it into my belt holster and then the magnetic cover would hardly close.
Is there any case + holster combo that I can purchase or at least a holster with enough room to hold the Epic with a case attached?
I really liike the Seidio Active X case but I'm afraid it will make the phone too thick for most if not all holsters other than the Seidio snap on holster.
I was also looking at these two Amazon items but don't know if they really would go well together:
I can't post links but these two are from Amazon.
Premium-Crystal-Rubberized-Snap-Samsung
Horizontal-Leather-Samsung-Magnetic-Closing
Any suggestions?
Seidio has a combo that comes with a holster and case.
platinum case and clip
Best Buy has a case made by platinum. great case and holster as well. case does good job of protecting the phone.
Thank you for the responses. I saw both and for the holster, is there one that is not a phone clip-on holster, rather more like the leather holsters where the phone resides inside and there is a magnetic lock to hold the opening closed?
I might just go for the Seidio Active X case/holster combo if I can't find another option.
Try this maybe?

Thanks. Looks like I was a little late to the party. Went to purchase the case this morning and it was officially sold out.
i use the Seidio case/holster combo. i have the.. i think its called "active" one now (belt clip with a plastic and rubberized case on the phone. holds phone face in against your body). I previously used the "surface case" and holster combo. Both GREAT items (i still have the surface case, but due to something that was totally my fault the holster broke. not a reflection of the product quality. i love it).
my phone has the Seidio screen protector and Seidio "Active" case/holster. its been dropped SO many times. banged around daily. screen and softkeys are still scratch free. screen protector barely scratched (thats how durable it is. even in a pocket with keys or coins its still perfectly clear). phone still working great. LOVE the case. its a little expensive but well worth the investment to protect your superphone.

I think I'll purchase the Active X case and holster combo. Hopefully the phone will stay in the holster while at the gym. I saw a great review of the product in this forum and even though the price is a lot higher than I would like to pay, it seems like it is worth it.

Verizon Case Gameplan

So my plan was to get the slimmest case I could for Verizon note 4. On my note 3 I had the incipio feather case (loved it-although little protection).
Got my note 4 and no readily available cases. Went naked for a week. Ordered the spigen thin fit (incipio feather not available?).
Got it (no mic hole issues as it is open on bottom). It is a bit slippery but is exactly like feather case. Very very annoying how ever-increasing does squeak when put pressure on sides - clearly mold only 95% accurate...
Now this is the slimmest case out there.... And I am so missing carrying this phone naked. The Samsung back feels so grippy and nice. Amazing how even this thin case adds noticeable bulk.
Starting to get contaminated with "this thin fit case doesn't protect much anyway.....
This phone naked is the bomb. Anyone routinely not case phone and have success.? I saw someone yesterday with note 3 looked like a banged up car on sides. Slapped the spigen back on. Hahaha
As an aside, waiting for the official Samsung protective cover - may be a good solution. But, sold out on Samsung site..... Anyone have this one? No video reviews that I can find.
For the squeaking, just put strips of masking or electrical tape on both sides of the inside of the case. Silly that you have to do anything, but this is a solution.

OtterBox Defender & Commuter Series Case

Otterbox cases are some of the best protection that you can get for your smartphone. There are three available for the Galaxy S6 and coming soon for the Galaxy S6 Edge ( Sign up Here to Be Notified ) You can get more customization though the OtterBox site. There is also Free Shipping on all cases within the US.

You have the same exact color option that I have.
Been rocking the Otterbox Commuter case since I first got my phone. It's a nice case. Since I carry my phone in my pocket, dust covers were a must. You should see the ports on my old Nexus 4, lol. I didn't want the defender as it is too bulky, so the Commuter was perfect. The dust covers are great and the case leave you enough room for a screen protector. I did just get the standard tempored glass protector from Verizon, but if all protectors are created equal, then you won't have a problem. The bottom of the case does just barely touch the protector. If you have a protector any bigger, the lip of the case will cover or push up against it. I do have one or two gripes with it, though...
It wants to slip out of your hand and is a tiny bit of a pain if you want to take the case off and put it back on. I think if the lines on the edge of the hard part of the case were horizontal instead of vertical, the case would have a better grip and not want to slide out of your hand. With the grooves being vertical, they case just glides right out of your hand.
I often have to take my phone out of the case because I run, so I have an armband that I put my phone in (having to switch cases like this is also why I got the Commuter and not the Defender...easier to take the case off and i'm sure the Defender case will eventually break from constantly having to take it apart). If you take your phone out of the case and you need to put it back, there's a certain way you have to do it. Put on the soft cover first. After that, you need to put on the hard cover on starting at the bottom. Sit the phone down into the bottom part and then pull the dust covers through the cut outs and then drop the phone the rest of the way into the hard cover. From there, the rest of the hard cover part pops right over the rest of it very easily. It's a little tricky at first, but over time, i'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
Overall, I like this case.
Not happy with Defender failure

I suggest no one buy the Defender for the S6 until they show they have fixed the plastic housing, the holster, or both.
The housing on mine has a broken latch after only 2 weeks of use. The Defender for my old S4 last 2 years and still works fine.
The new housing has a smaller perimeter around the latching slot for the holster. Also, the holster tab is now two little nibs, as compared to a solid tab on the S4 design.
The smaller interface area combined with the thinner material on the housing caused mine to break easily. Now the phone wont stay in the holster unless I turn it around to use the unbroken side. I know that side will be breaking soon as well.
To top it off.....Otterbox's website wants me to give them a credit card so they can charge me $ 6.99 for handling the issue.
I am pretty disappointed in the new Otterbox. Am looking for an alternative since the design is poor and the return policy on such a premium product is less than "premium" in my eyes.

[Q] Belt Case/Holsters - What's "in" this season? What U Playrs Be Rockin'?

Erm ... not really.
Can anyone give some advice about a belt case/holster?
I'm thinking on the lines of this type http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OHFTPXM/ a horizontal case.
But, this don't usually last that long.
So, I was thinking about http://www.amazon.co.uk/Urvoix-Case-Cover-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B00S6DQ37W/ a vertical canvas style.
But, I'm unsure using it with a belt and in vertical orientation would it just get in the way, sitting down, driving etc?
I'll probably be buying a case for the phone too.
Any advice please.
Thank you
I used to use belt holsters and cases but problem is this phone is so big the cases look like fanny packs Lol.
With that out of the way, I think the horizontal holders are better for when you sit down.
I'm using a Seidio CAPSA exoskeleton holster in horizontal orientation, with a UAG case. They fit perfectly together. If you search the forums someone on here has posted photos of this combination. If you rotate it to vertical it does get in the way a little when sitting down, so I use it horizontal.

Thank you both very much
I use an Otterbox Defender w/holster & don't have any issues sitting down w/ the phone in the landscape/horizon mode. I do take the phone off my belt in the car to use my Craig's Docks car dock/mount. I think your physique has a lot to do with the comfort of the phone when seated. I also have a horizontal nylon belt pouch I got from Amazon that fits the phone with the Defender case but I've never used it because I've had no problems with the Defender's holster. The nylon pouch would be very useful if you're in a warm climate & it's raining & you're outside a lot.
One thing I really like about the Defender holster is it allows the phone to be placed in the screen out position so I can see/use the screen when it's clipped on my belt (it's of course less protection than screen in but for me the functionality outweighs that). I do agree that the size of the N4 looks like you've got a tablet on your belt, it does look ridiculous but it is what it is.
The Defender is a high quality precision made case IMO and if you buy one online make sure you buy it either directly from Otterbox or directly from Amazon (not a third party reseller) as counterfeiting is rampant with them. Also you have to remove the included plastic screen protector & use something else for clarity & to prevent the constant dirt that accumulates through the opening for the home key w/ the installed screen protector.
I haven't used the exact same one that you listed, but I used a very similar design holster for my gs1 and that fake pleather material wore out pretty quick by the belt area. I can't believe I paid $15 for that. If you want to go vertical, I personally recommend it on the side. Would interfere if worn near the front. Out of those 2, I would say the nylon holster would last longer because of the 1000d cordura nylon, but I can't speak for the overall quality. The stitching might be shoddy and stuff could fall apart easily.
I used the supcase beetle case with holster, but the case and holster broke. The case could not take a huge impact. I wore the holster on my side horizontally and broke the belt clip getting out of the car. I am currently using a cheap otterbox defender type case with holster.

Awesomes x2 Thank you
I think we can close this one now, if needed :good:
http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung...-kickstand-combo-black-p/bd2-hr3ssgt4k-bk.htm
iv been using the seido surface for about 6-7 months now and its still working great, spring on the holster still seems as strong as brand new, and its pretty slim compared to the other case+holster combos. it provides plenty of protection, iv dropped my phone at least 10 times since november, each time onto hard surface floors from about waist high (im 5 foot 11), and each time i remove the case to see what damage i caused and surprised to see that my phone itself still it perfect cosmetic condition. no scratches or scuffs anywhere on the edges or corners. phone sits pretty snug into the clip, it has NEVER came off on its own. if something were to go wrong with this case ill definitely buy another one.
Read my thread about Seidio & buying form their online store.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/accessories/dont-want-to-buy-seidios-webstore-t3036913
I have to initiate a chargeback w/ the bank that issued the credit card I used to get a refund. Seidio refunded zero.
Seido's online store is a joke if you have a problem w/ one of their products. By far the worst experience I've ever had purchasing online.
The Surface is a decent case but completely overpriced. Only reason I got one was to turn into the Surface w/ holster which was complete garbage, both the case & the holster. Everytime I moved the phone fell off the beltclip, is was unusable. And yes, I did have the case locked to the beltclip.
For the price Seidio charges for the Surface it should have rocker switch covers at a bare minimum. You can spend a fraction of the cost of a Surface & get a far nicer case.
Best Buy sells the Surface as their Platinum series at half the price Seidio charges.
IMO Seidio = garbage.
Maxpedition
Ever since I starting using tactical pouches with my iPhone 5s, I have continued to do so with my Note 4. I use Maxpedition pouches, as they are made of 1050d ballistic nylon. They are quite excellent.|
When I'm at work, during my food vendering stuff, I use their TC-3 pouch. However, I rock their leg pouch for any other events. Since I run around with no case on my phone except for the leg pouch and the small pouch that my phone and cards slip in, I am quite pleased with the setup. Excellent durability and I can carry my expensive IEMs, wallet, phone, and a couple extras with no problem.
Thank you all for the additional post and information
After a lot of head scratching I ordered the vertical case (2nd link in my OP).
I'll use it as a starting point and try other cases once I get my Note 4 through the post.

Belt "Holster" recommendation:

If anyone is looking for a belt holster style carrying case, this is one that I got a few weeks back:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H2K0M58/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So far it's worked very well for me. I keep the Incipio Battery Pack on all the time on my phone and it fits just beautifully in this case. Just about the perfect size to easy in, easy out with the battery pack on it. Not very expensive either. The material is appears to be good quality.
I was even able to fit the phone with the JBL speaker mod on it in the case, though that was a tight fit.
There are two negatives worth noting:
1. It's big! Well, obviously it has to be cause it's a big (ie, tall) phone so it looks a little large on your hip. If having something big and heavyish on your hip is going to bug you, then don't get it.
2. I'm not thrilled with the clip... It's strong enough, but it doesn't hold as tightly as I'd like. This makes it easy to get the case on and off your belt... but a little too easy. A couple of times I've pulled the whole case off when just trying to get my phone out. And at least once when I was sitting in a deep couch for a while my normal movement while seated moved the case enough up the belt that when I stood up the case fell off my belt. (It's possible I just one a case with a belt clip that isn't as tight as it normally should be.)
Thanks for the review! Couple questions...
Is it long enough, that without a mod attached, the phone will fit with a case on it? In particular I was thinking of the bumper.
I work on trucks for a living. Having it slide off my belt would be annoying. Do the clips have enough space, that were I to glue them down, I'd be able to slide a belt through them?
Never mind, I see it has loops.
How well has it held up, since you've purchased it?
Just to let you know...the Incipio Performance Level 4 cases come with a holster as well. And they're not bulky like the OtterBox Defender series.
As a follow up, the AGOZ holster is great! At first I thought the clip was overkill, and contemplated removing it, but in unison with the loops, it firmly holds the holster where I want it. I use it all week long at work, since I work on trucks, and want the most protection possible, without the Otterbox bulk in hand.
I did look at the Incipio holster, but it looked awkward used in the horizontal position. I did purchase their bumper, which I love. On weekends, I use the Seidio Dilex Pro holster for the Galaxy Note 5, recommended on another forum. It's a perfect holster in combination with the bumper, and allows for any mod to be used.
I just want a simple clip holster that works with the back panel that came with the phone. No bumper, no case... Just a belt clip.
No where to be found.
I use this sometimes. Works fine with the style shell or Incipio battery pack. It has a nice sturdy metal clip that allows the case to rotate.
