Speed of roms - T-Mobile LG G2x

I never thought of how much faster one rom was from anouther untilled I looked at a phone I haven't used for a week or so. It has weapons 3.0 on it and I have been using hellfiresandwitch on the phone I've been using for the last week or more. The difference in speed is something.

Because any ICS ROM for the O2X/G2X doesn't support HW acceleration. The drivers aren't released for it yet (or ever will be by the looks of it) and this is what keeps the ROM from a blazing fast UI.

Taking that into account, which ICS ROM (out of those that you have tried so far) would you say is the quickest despite the lack of HW acceleration?

Intrigued by 1.92 oc. Which kernel/rom combo is best for that support?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
To be honest its not advisable to get to 1.92. Too unstable and performance gains over 1.4 are minimal. If you want fast, run perfect storm 1.4 with ziggys kernel oc to 1.4. Gingerbread roms are nice but unstable and the accompanying radio is horrendous. Finally the gb kernels are not good yet since the source has not dropped.

Thanks! I waited for the lg revolution and that thing is a total bust. Excited!

I personally like Imoseyon's kernels best. Lots of good ROMs available. Play with your options and see what suits you best.

I don't believe so. If you're asking because of the radio issue, check out CM7. It's Gingerbread and has a working Netflix but without the brick risk.

Aren't there inoperable features in that though? And will any oc gb kernel work with it?

It's not prefect, but no rom is. The main problems are:
1) toggling from wifi to mobile data requires a reboot, although there are reports that this has been fixed
2) some people experience buggy data connections while many do not
Not any kernel will work but Imoseyon's does and is quite good (arguably better than on Sense roms). There are others as well.
While it's pushed as pre-alpha, it's plenty stable enough to run as a daily driver. Many people do. I would rather run it than a Sense 2.1 rom.

I've been using CM7 for about a week now, there was an update on Saturday that fixed the wi-fi and data connections work fine. Only problem I noticed was going into an "Extended Network" area caused 3G to drop, but if you enable international data roaming it connects back to 3G.

[Q] what is this source code we are waiting for?

I'm not sure what I should expect when Google releases it for this phone...
Is this the reason we do not have any GPU accelerated ROMs?
The sensation has roms and kernels with sense 3.5 and GPU oc to 320..
I am guessing this GPU UI rendering was ported from ICS.. sensation users are getting like 60 fps in their UI and app drawer.
Why cant we get the same performance with nearly the same hardware?
Shouldn't we be able to use the same thing they did?

Smoothest basic ROM?

My dad just bought the wind mobile version of this phone. What is a smooth basic ROM you guys would recommend for him? he doesn't need anything fancy
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I like weapon but you could always start with the basic rooted stock rom and go from there.
I suggest eaglebloods latest rom, which can be found in the development section of the g2x. It is extremely smooth and stable. I would also use faux123 4.6 kernel with that rom.

Tsugi

Must try Tsugi. It is a pretty basic rom but is blazing fast and reliable. It has never crashed on me as long as I have been running it. Can't say enough good things about it.

I've heard great things about Tsugi! So +1. I've tried Weapons, wasn't my cup of tea. Froze quite alot in the early builds.

Really? This poor horse...
I use Weapon 3 which is based on stock Android 2.3.3 with Faux123-0.1.3 recompiled kernel. It has very good battery life, is fast, and very stable.
Galnet MIUI, it really is impressive
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
After trying both Tsugi and Weapon, I personally prefer Tsugi. It seems to work slightly better for me, and I overall seem to have fewer issues. The LG Camera also seems to work slightly better on it although I can't point to any definitive area, other than the fact it has a panorama mode (which only sort of works).
Weapon is great if you want to run Touchwiz, which I find makes more sense to people who don't know what they're doing. Another big deal is that Tsugi doesn't have the shutdown issue where when the phone runs out of battery instead of turning off the screen just goes black and drains the battery more. This may or may not cause damage to the battery, but it's not worth the risk.
Just my two cents
i would say eagle
Jboxer's 2.3.4 LG Colorized is what I settled on after trying pretty much every current ROM.

I would say leave it alone. usually the one originally on there is the safest and most stable. I have installed the latest nightly build 201 from cm. Its for me and I know what to do if something is wrong.
My wife's android phones I always kept at stock for her so whenever there is an issue its easier to fix.
Just stay stock bud and your dad should be fine ok?
Miui.us is Da best so far with trinity kernel, axura, then tsugi? There's a mess of them? Lol

Is the official MIUI ICS ROM stable?

I'm currently on the Bugless Beast ROM, and it is very stable and pretty much like the name says without bugs, I have yet to have a problem with it.
However I have been thinking of going to MIUI, but I don't know how stable and/or fast it would be compared to my current ROM.
So what is your opinion?
Anyone know?
Almost-stable but..
Too low available memory and low speed makes me use CM9.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
MIUI is not as stable as the ics roms. I sometimes get lag such as the MIUI locker. There is still lots of bug. But it is stable enough for daily use.
But the recent update makes the contacts in small photos. So i switch back to codename android rom.
You can give it a try.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Thanks, I guess I'll just say with BB, I like ROMs fast and as stable as possible.
Although, according to the ICS ROM Benchmarks Nexus S List, there are two MIUI ROMs in the top five. Catalyst MIUI, one of my favorite ROMs, is a bit laggy. Perhaps, because it has Force GPU Rendering and Keep Launcher in Memory checked but then again I haven't tried it with those settings unchecked.
I would give it a try. It is really a beautiful ROM (something different).

I also love MIUI due to its interface
MIUI is still in early development, so the MIUI team does not optimize the rom so much.
That's why MIUI has sudden lag and is buggy.

You could try MIUIXperience! It's a great option for MIUI with several tweaks and themes. Awesome ROM with great battery life and performance.

codename and nexus beam seem really smooth. right now im on nexus beam and im loving the smoothness, but its based on an old version of cm9 so there is little customization. if you want customization id go with codename
The latest version of Nexus Beam is really nice and extremely smooth.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't tried Codename-- yet-- because I'm already happy with the Nexus Beam ROM.
It has decent WiFi strength & solid battery performance.
I might give the other a try-- if I get bored with Nexus-- but I certainly don't feel like I NEED to do it any time soon.
Codename is prettier than Nexus Beam and also SEEMS faster and smoother, but both are slower than GB. I think whoever programmed ICS put kludge routines in the kernel to induce people to buy faster phones. NOT OUR DEVS! some technicians at Google, I suppose. Hint though -- kernel needs overclocking added.
Notes about 'awake' time between these 2 roms:
Codename build-1 kept 'awake' all the time, Beam pre-final is better, but still on and off for 'awake', longer for 'on' than 'off'. Codename build-2&3 got into deep sleep with no 'awake'. So, in terms of battery performance, recommend to go with Codename build-3, also better than other ics roms.
PS phone condition for the comparison: during the night time, wifi off, data off, airplane mode off.
Trying out code name to see how it runs

No - it's apparently so secret that you don't know about it.
I was kidding about running that ROM at the moment, but it was the Froyo ROM I used the most until we finally got the KJ6 drop and the custom roms that came with it. It was so smooth and looked so good, I couldn't get enough of it.
Just wanted to keep this thread alive by saying that after trying out both recent builds of both roms , nexus beam seems to be better with on screen time but tuks rom was better with off screen time. I need someone else to confirm this
