How do you properly install Sky-ICS rom? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I did search around and looked on the main page, and there were not any instructions. In my experience with roms, installation requires different things. My phone is rooted and has CWM, so do I just flash or should I wipe my phone completely? Thanks and yeah I am pretty noobish, just want to make sure I am doing it the right way, thanks

Reboot to Recovery
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Under Advanced "Wipe Dalvic Cache"
Under "Mounts and Storage" Format /System
Flash ROM from sdcard
Reboot
Post Install Notes:*First boot will take a good 1min after you see your homescreen.
Setup your Gmail account. Do this first before any Update!
To apply an update reboot to Recovery, clear Cache Partition, under Advanced, clear Dalvic Cache, flash your Update, Reboot.

Do a couple nandroid backups and store them on your computer before you do anything.
I say a "couple" because I've had more than one nandroid backup be corrupted.
And store it to your computer because newbs sometimes accidentally wipe their SD cards.

Quite late with the response, though I think I did respond but guess it did not go through. Just wanted to say thanks and I appreciate your help

[Q] hanging at splash screen... no dice at all.... please help

Good evening folks.
I followed these directions TO THE LETTER
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
When it comes to the reboot after the the rom installs, and we wipe the data and reboot again.
once it reboots, it just hangs at the gtablet screen.
I did notice when i wiped the settings, it said something about apps2sd not being found. not sure if thats related.
would LOVE some help on this. just bought it due to a friends recomendation (sold my ipad) and want to get it running.
thanks
Can you reboot into Recovery (start up while holding down the Volume Up key)? If you can and you have ClockworkMod installed clear cache and wipe data. Restart. Let us know what happens.
If you can get it to recovery and wipe of data and cash still gives you no full boot reboot into recovery and repartition.
From the post you linked,
Step 7. Re-Partition your Tablet: In order to make sure the Android Market works correctly after installing any ROM, we must re-partition the device. Select the advanced option at the bottom of the ClockworkMod menu, then go to “partition SD card”, for the first option select 2048, and for the second option select 0. This erases data on your tablet. Be prepared.
did it
i have done the wiping etc a few times. im doing it again as we speak and ill post the results. BUT here is the exact error i get when i run wipe data
No apps2sd partition found. skipping format of sd-ext
not sure if that matters.
EDIT : and yes, i can still get in to clockworkmod np, and run all the commands. but im just not getting it to boot after following all instructions. still hanging at the splash screen (gtablet)
Try an SD repartition next (also in clockworkmod, under Advanced). 2048 and 0 for the settings and it will take about 10 minutes to run.
Also, this will wipe /sdcard and /data, so keep that in mind.
yeah, it will wipe the entire internal memory. but i have done that 2-3 times now, full wipe, redid the entire process again. no go.
i will give it a go again though. and yes the partitioning does take some time
EDIT : SUCCESS... i didnt go back and format again. all i did was re-run the zip install without reformatting, then wiped cache, then cleared the rest. now im in to the OS at least. now to see if market works
What rom are you trying to install?
The apps2sd message is normal BTW.
Edit: glad you got it working.

new to this and need help

I have the HTC thunderbolt and it is running gingerbread. I have multiple roms on my SD card but i can't remember how to change to a different one. Can anyone help me?
You must start recovery.
Reboot the Phone, start the recovery. Install zip file, and that´s it.
Sorry, i forget to tell you how to get into the recovery:
1. reboot
2. after the lights go down push the up or down button for long.
(at my device Desire HD it´s the down buttton)
3. now you are in the recovery. choose "install zip from sdcard"
4.take the rom you want.
5. press yes and you get the new rom
and remember to do a full wipe before installing

not exactly a full wipe. just data/factory reset, cache, and dalvik cache (dont wipe sd card or else you will have nothing to flash; the only reason why the sd card would be wiped/formatted is if you are partitioning it)

question about wiping

quick question, im new to rooting the transforner and i just want to know, when i wipe to install prime will it erase my music that is on the internal storage? If so, is there a different way to wipe to keep certain files? Cause i also have my titanium backup files on internal as well, thanks in advance.
First of all, your title made me laugh for a good 1 minute. Somehow, "question about wiping" just doesn't sound very technical and sound more like it has something to do with our bodily functions.
No, "wiping" cache and data will not touch your files. Android is different than windows. Windows OS has 1 big partition where everything is in there. Android has 12 partitions, each one has it's own purpose. When you wipe the data partition, what you're really wiping is app data partition. There is also a user data partition where all your files are kept. Unless you do a format of your sdcard in the advance menu, all your user files are safe.
So, before you install a custom rom, make sure you wipe cache and data/factory reset. Also wipe dalvik cache. Trust me, all your porn files will still be there waiting for you.
Sorry, I have a weird sense of humor.
Lol, thanks buddy. Ive never had an android device with an internal sdcard so i was a little concerned. Thanks again.

I was wondering, is a data/factory wipe always necessary? When I flashed Revolver 3.9.3 for the 1ste time from stock rom, I did a data/factory wipe, cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe in CWM. When updating this Revolver rom to 3.9.5 using zip-file, I only wipe cache and dalvik cache. On my Moto I wipe cache and dalvik cache before and after the zip update when updating a custom rom, but I'm not sure if the latter is necessary. I guess a data/factory wipe is only necessary when flashing a new base rom?
wiping is usually recommended as sometimes if you install with out wiping it will cause weird problems :/

[Q] What exactly is meant by "wipe clean"?

Can someone clarify exactly what I means to "wipe" a device?
I have installed CleanRom. In recovery I reset the device, wiped cache, and wiped Dalvik cache. I did not wipe the SD card. is this correct? If so, is there ever a need to wipe the SD card?
Thanks!
I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure there is never any reason to wipe the SD card when flashing roms. I've flashed every version of cleanrom released so far doing exactly what you did and haven't run into any issues.

Yeah there's really no reason for you to wipe your sdcard unless you're planning on returning your device. The rest is correct.
When "wiping" a device for installing a new custom ROM, you typically should wipe cache, Dalvik, and data.
Data can sometimes be kept, if the base ROM is similar. But doing so may cause random bugs, and you may end up having to wipe data and reflash. Wiping data is usually the safest.
Wiping SD card is not necessary.
I must have something wrong then because I do the same wipes you mentioned, cache, dalvik, and data and every time I do it my SDCard contents, are also gone. Has no one else had this problem?
Thanks

Hi there!
It looks to me that you are missing a few steps there.
First of all enter into Recovery (CWM) and do a Backup so that you can always restore to where you were!
Assuming that you have obviously put the zip on your SD just continue in Recovery.
Scroll down to Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Scroll down to Yes Delete all user data
Scroll down to install zip from SDcard
Choose zip from SDcard
Scroll down to your zip file and install
Well mate according to the developer the Wipe Data/Factory Reset is all you need but see how you go and let me know if it worked for you!
Oh and don't forget to hit Thanks!

I forgot mention all this above..... i've done all this and yet no gain
Hi again...do not worry. Let's add some other steps:
Open Recovery and repeat the Wipe Data/Factory Reset step above and add these steps below:
Wipe Cache Partition
Scroll down to Advanced
Choose Wipe Dalvik Cache
Go back to main menu
Scroll down to and choose Mounts and Storage
Then choose these 3 steps, each at the time, always scrolling down to yes and going back to the same place after each format is completed.
Format /Cache
Format /Data
Format / System
Then do the following steps like Install zip from SDcard, etc.
Now!!! That has to work......lol
Let me know how it went for you. I am assuming you can still get into your CWM right?
Oh and don't forget to hit THANKS.
