New to the android arena and been looking at apps on the android market (which I found by searching android apps), well noticed alot of you talking about getjar which seems cool. Just wondering why they have paid apps for free. Do many of you use/trust getjar?
Yes its legit. Just old outdated version of apps that will not be updated in google play.

They update the apps on Getjar. But there is no incentive for the developer to update on Getjar, so some update regularly, some never update. But at least it was free.
Oh okay thanks! Got my beautiful widgets from getjar, and the free animation pack from googleplay. Been bouncing back and forth. Love'n my skyrocket so far

So, how do i update an app that i downloaded for free on Amazon Appstore? (it was one of those free-app-a-day). It won't update on the Android Marketplace because it makes me pay for the update.
Thank You
I haven't downloaded from Amazon before, but this is a good question that I would like to know the answer to also (for future reference).
I would imagine that you could update through Amazon. If I ran into this issue and couldn't update through either market, then I would have no moral qualms about downloading the app from a "less than reputable" source, since I already paid for it and should be able to update.
Still, I'm interested to see what people have to say. Again, I feel like Amazon would have a way to update.
Go to applanet and download the app, install and then go to the downloads section on the app and click update

im sorry, but not sure what you mean by applanet. do you mean the appstore on Amazon? because even in Amazon's app, it went let me update.
Applanet is a "black market", essentially piracy. You sure you can't update through Amazon appstore? Menu>my apps there's a tab that says updates available.

I have about 3 apps total that i downloaded from amazon app store, and they all show up under the "All" tab. But they do not show up as "update available."
But when i go to the android market, there is an update available and it is a newer version, but it forces me to buy the app if i want to update it.
I guess this is a prime example of "Android fragmentation" that the apple fanboys like to criticize.
Just refresh your apps list by pressing settings button.

This has nothing to do with fragmentation

This is because updates to apps have to be vetted by amazon before they appear in their app store - those to the android market, do not - hence, it's common for amazon apps to be a version (or few) behind when an app is updated - unfortunately, it seems to be the price to pay for a free paid app every day - eventually the updates make it there, but it can take days or even weeks
The new market is showing Apps as "installed" that were downloaded via amazon, you can also update!
Edit: only free apps* paid Apps you are asked to purchase, but are still shown as installed

Wow, if that's true, that's a great feature... although I hardly ever have updates for my Amazon apps.

I agree, a simple fact like this could have been started in the first thread and it wouldn't if been over shadowed.
I purchased "apparatus" in the Amazon app store and it is no longer available. Android market is telling me an update is available, and then I'm asked to purchase the app.... Contact the dev?

I believe that if it is a purchased app from amazon (even one of the free apps of the day) you can only update it in the amazon market, not the android market.

Why would an app cost $$$ on the Amazon AppStore but be free in the Android Market..? Sounds like you are installing "lite" or ad versions.
Hey Everyone,
I wanted to let you know that the SwiftKey X Keyboard is free today on amazon. You can check it out here.

That's weird... I got it for free.... Maybe they made it free for everyone to update from the beta to the phone stable version.

Its the "FREE APP OF THE DAY" on the Amazon App Store for Android. That is where people are getting it for free.

Yeah, it must have been because you were a beta tester. That is why you were able to upgrade for free.
I didn't like the Phone version but the Tablet version is awesome.
Unfortunately the tablet version is still $5.

Does anyone still use the Amazon app store? The apps never get updated.

Amazon app store never gets updated?
They just gave it an all new UI. For the release of the kindle fire.
I got quick office pro for free that day too.
Edit: nevermind, you mean the apps themselves, my apps downloaded in the Amazon appstore update in the regular market.
