Backrest Car Mount - TouchPad Accessories

We are going on a road trip with my 18 month old son next week, and he doesn't like to sit in the back seat and sleep anymore during road trips. I am trying to figure out a way to mount my touchpad so that he can watch a movie in the backseat and keep him entertained for the trip. Has anyone bought/seen any backrest mounts for the touchpad?
Thanks!

Duct tape? Seriously, find a cheap case that the Touchpad slides into, slice a small hole for the tape to go through, wrap duct tape through and around headrest. Slide the Touchpad into it
EDIT: Or there's this: http://www.amazon.com/Tablet-Computer-Headrest-TouchPad-VanGoddy/dp/B005GVLSCC

I bought this for my Touch pad and although plastic its really well made and has rubber pads on the mount points so you don't have to worry about damaging the tablet. Worked really well and kept my toddler quiet for hours. Gotta love Disney!

Cheap car vent holder @$1.87 inc. shipping.

Hi, I have just ordered this item from ebay at a cost of $1.87 including shipping!
I assume quality won't be all that great, but I had the same thing for a HTC Touch HD which cost around $15 and never had any issues with it.
So if anyone's looking for a bargain car vent holder here you go
Completely forgot about vent holders, my suction mounts keep falling off so providing it fits my car this is a far better option.
Only ever set my vents to screen and footwell anyway, so not worried about the phone overheating
I don't suppose you know if that's portrait or landscape ?
It's a bit difficult to tell from the pics.
Screen mount is a pain for me as I've got a Ford Galaxy, the mahoosively deep dash means if I use a screen mount it has to be one of the long snakey ones that wobble about like an essex girls backside

pmsl. I would say that it's landscape. I have ordered one too so that the mound will be closer to me in the car/ more discrete and will be easier to use the phone without having to stretch especially in cars where the windscreen is miles from you lol. For a couple of quid I'm sure it can be modified if need be

I might have a punt on one, the trouble with the early Galaxy dashes is they are too curvy for a suction mount as well.
I'll deffo need one soon though as I'm off out in a mo to pick up a double din DVD and screen head unit, already got the Nokia composite AV lead, that just leaves a set of optic and a beer tap to fit and I need never leave the drive lol
Have been using this for a few months. Its landscape only but very useful. Recommended

that is a nice find !
i like it
i always prefer vent holders than the windshield suction ones, it works way better
I ordered 3 from eBay, hoping to sell the other 2 on craigslist. But since using them for about a month, all 3 are up on craigslist. The holder can be mounted either portrait or landscape by unscrewing the back of the mount and rotating the base to whichever position you prefer. The biggest problem I have with it is the 2 vent pins (or hooks) easily slide out of the slots in the back of the thing. Every time you remove the SGS from it, you'll have a problem with the loose pins. If I drove in a straight line this would not be a problem. I guess I could engineer a solution to the problem, like using a buck store soldering iron to fuse the pins in place or crazy gluing them. But that would involve investing time sitting in my car, trying to get them at the right angle for my round vents. And I just did 3 hours of that installing a Sony bluetooth radio, which means I can put the SGS in the cupholder, and listen to the turn-by-turn, phone calls and music through the radio.
yes I can't see the SGS in my line of sight. But the hassle of carefully removing the phone from this thing. And not having the feeling of solidness the mounting should offer without spending time reinforcing it has me passing on putting a expensive piece of hardware in it. You really do get what you pay for.
great find! thanks

My car mount solution!

I know this has probably been posted over at other forums but I'll make a short review here.
I recently purchased Exogear's Exomount through Amazon ($19.99 and free 2-day shipping with Prime) and I'm absolutely amazed by the product's versatility/performance. The suction cup is made out of silicone and feels a bit sticky to the touch. It adheres to the windshield (or almost any flat surface, including dry-wall) effortlessly and that's even before applying the lock mechanism. The neck can pivot 360 degrees which means you can set your phone in portrait or landscape mode quickly.
The main selling point for me was that instead of using a cradle, it's simply an oversized 5" clip with polyurethane grippers on each of the clip ends to provide a firm non-abrasive grip on the device it's holding which is "EXCELLENT" for people who don't really like taking the phone case off everytime mounting is needed. IT WORKS GREAT WITH ANY CASE ATTACHED!. Just make sure the clip isn't gripping the volume rocker and you're good to go. The mount is not as clunky as most of the universal cradels sold online that look ridiculously oversized. I have attached and tested my girlfriend's iPhone 4 with and without a case, a garmin nuvi GPS, my Inspire 4G with and without a case and my old iPod video without any detachments from the suction cup or the clip itself. It leaves enough clearance for the camera to be free of any obstacles in case anyone wants to record video while driving. The website and some youtube videos also show it being used as a car mount for iPads and a lot of other tablets.
Bottom line: Great mount for anyone who wants to use a simple universal design compared to numerous propietary ones and attach many devices to it, even ones with protective cases/skins attached.
Thanks! Hadn't seen it before. I've always done just fine with my phone on my leg while using GPS, and didn't see the need to throw money at some clunky bulky phone holder, or an expensive one that I'd only be using for this phone..
That youtube video sold me. So versatile in what it can hold and where it can mount... I just ordered one and signed up for that month trial thing for the free shipping.

Glad I was able to help, dude =D
Yeah, I'm loving this mounting kit. I actually ordered another one for my girlfriend's car 'cause her gps mount keeps on popping off. Let us know how you like it when you get a chance to have a hands-on test.
It will get delivered wednesday. I'll mount it up on my commute to work thursday morning. Some harsh roads and my car is pretty damn stiff suspension. If it holds up to that one roads beatings I'll be damn impressed.
This is pretty awesome! I may see if I can return the mount I just bought (I saved the reciept....the GPS mounts that hold the phones always loose tension in the springs) and get this one!
I use a mount by Mountek, really a superb product that mounts in a CD slot. Let us know how you like the exomount!
Exomount - Day 4
Today would be the 4th day I've used the Exomount. The clip works adequately and holds the phone in place even with the cover on. The suction cup has yet to fail me even in high temperature weather with the sun beating on it and I even used it on my girfriend's car for around 8 hours, and back on my car it stuck in place like it was just used for the first time. There's some vibration when recording video while driving but that's cruising at 60MPH over somewhat bumpy roads. I didn't expect this mount to be a tripod or anything like that, especially for the price I paid. It works as it should and beyond and I'm more than pleased with its performance thus far.
I have the GoPro Hero cam for recording out the window so I won't need this mount for that. Just want it to hold my phone in view. I tend to forget it's on my lap a lot and get out of the car and bam. (CaseMate Tough is awesome though)
My car's down, again, right now. I'll be picking up parts after work today and hopefully get the car back together tonight though. Mount is suposed to be delivered today so I'll post my opinion on it tomorrow hopefully.
OK.
So the mount is awesome! I love the fact that I can mount this on my MK4 GTI's dash!. Anybody with a MK4 VW knows what the surface of the dashboard looks/feels like.. it's pretty textured, but the mount holds on it!
With my cars very stiff suspension and the ****ty roads of texas, the phone does shake/vibrate a good bit, but what I need to see is legible in navigation. But I won't be able to read a text msg on it. The elbow is flexible enough to move with one hand, but holds strong enough to stay how you set it, which is awesome (It doesn't start "rotating" forward/down). And the fact I can keep my phone in it's case and easily just twist to make it portrait or landscape is great.

I got that one too, I love it. Also got a 6 inch audio cable with 90s on both ends and a 12 inch usb cable and flush usb charger for the cigarette lighter. clean installation with no long cables hangin in the floorboards or tangled around stuff.
I am using a mount called The Clingo. It is awesome and works with anything. Just picked it up a month ago.
I've been using an Arkon mount since around Christmas; no problems at all! Good suction, quick release works well. Only issue I've seen is if I hit the charger cable with the stick shift it will tend to trigger the quick release and pop the phone out. That's more an issue of the power cable not having a quick release than a knock to the mount though.
It also came with a dashboard vent mount, but I've not used that since trying the windshield mount. Either my vents aren't very sturdy, or the mount+phone weigh too much, but it would just slide down and then fall out. The clips are adjustable, but I couldn't make them work with my vents.
This model I have is the Arkon SM410 Universal Mount.

Best Car/Surface Mount!

What's up everyone! Just thought I'd share the best mount I've been able to find. It's called the ExoMount by EXOGEAR. I bought one and can say that it does what it says; you can literally mount this thing practically anywhere. The best thing is that you can use it to mount virtually any phone.
http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html
Search google for prices though. You can get it for about $20.
wow, i really like that. Thanks for the link. I think ill order one in the next week or two. That and the audio/video cord so i can listen to the sound in my car and also have it on my in dash screen. The mount will complete it and not have to dig my phone out from between the seat and floor as it fly's off my center console!

No prob, man! When you do get it, be careful on how you wipe off the suction cup--something that I learned the hard way. It's not a normal one, it's like gel or something. I'm thinking of getting another one; one for the house and one for the car. Since you can stick it anywhere, it's cool to watch movies on--those times when you're on the couch but Glee is on.
did you start to rub the gel off or something?
No, it just tore a little on the surface; but it sorta like glued itself together.

KiDiGi Nexus 4 Car Dock!

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to know if anyone has tried out or ordered the Nexus 4 Car Dock/Cradle offered by KiDiGi? If you haven't yet heard of it, click here to take a gander. I'm thinking about ordering it and if none of you have been able to try it out, I can try and post up a little review about it. What do you guys think?
Looks decent enough. But I have had a few Arkon mounts I loved but eventually died because the suction cup warped in the hot sun. I am in TX. May I suggest taking it off the windshield when not in use to save the suction cup thingy lol. I now use one Xenomix mount that sits off the dash and hangs off. I use that with either my N7 or the N4.The only thing is that I don't have access to the charging port to that. My workaround is that I already had the Kroppsson Aero mount that fits both N7 and N4, but I wouldn't use it with my N7 due me feeling to obstructed. Anyway another story, another thread lol.
Anyway, the suction cups on both of those are the gel type and adhere to ANYTHING. So if you have curved dashes this would mold over without an issue. And also the adhesive can be reconstituted by wiping it with a damp lint free cloth, much like the N4 Orb .
Bottom line, if you do decide to get it, keep the sun in mind!
that mount is too bulky to not have an attached micro usb port and at $50 it's fairly expensive. try to find a nice universal one so you dont have to buy a car mounts for every new phone. Arkon is one of the better companies, i had one of their vent mount that lasted over 5 years.

That's one of the ones I got. Great universal one, but in the end the sun warped the suction cup on that. Because of that, it no longer sticks to anything, not even the windshield. I am keeping it for parts though lol.
And there are reports of the ball joint becoming loose. There is a fix, by inserting a 1"x1" microfiber cloth on the ball joint to give it grip. However, I never had this issue.

Thanks for the tip, i have a clingo dash mount, and the ball joint isn't that good, ill throw in a microfiber cloth from a screen protector. Hopefully it improves it a little. BTW i don't really recommend the clingo universal mount, i thought it would stick really well on the nexus 4 with the glass back, So far it has fallen off twice and it is only 2 weeks old :/

i had the clingo too for the gnex, that mount was all but useless unless the back of the phone was glass even a smooth plastic case didnt work very well. it would probably be good for the nexus 4 but i dont trust it anymore after seeing it drop previous nexus many times.
As for the ball joint i had to tighten it too, i did this by putting a few elastics around the plastic part that holds the joint.
Ram Mounts >= All other universal mounts. Imma let you finish, but...
The Kidigi One X cradle is great, I got it because the phone fits in my usual TPU case unlike the official HTC one. This design appears to be the same. I've been waiting for a dedicated N4 car cradle so I'll probably get one of these. I've never had any trouble with the suction cup on mine, but I doubt it gets hot enough in this country to be a problem... That and my car has a heat reflective windscreen. Which messes up the GPS signal.

In tropical conditions, even the best tint won't save it if it's left in the sun hahah. The glass gets way hot anyway.

I have been using mine for 3-4 months now. It fits perfectly and it is a top quality product.
The charger has a strong blue light, but charges 1 mAh in AC mode. So for 35€ more or less (I don't remember how much exactly I paid) I had 2 products I wanted to buy.
In conclusion, a little expensive but a good product in general

Magnetic mount

I'm a mechanic and I have a few different devices that I am really hard on. I use my Kindle fire rooted and ASOP to play music and YouTube on my toolbox. I bought the Niteize mount http://www.niteize.com/product/Steelie-Car-Mount-Kit.asp for my phone. It is expensive so I needed somthing that would attach my fire to the ball mount. I used an old hard drive magnet and some double sided tape and super glue. I routed out the center of a washer and glued to to the magnet. It clicks to the mount ball and to anything metal like my tool box, the fridge microwave ECT. I have made mounts for most of my devices this way. I highly recommend this cheap and easy way to click your tablet or phone to any locker, car body or appliance.
Shouldn't be too hard to rotate the images before uploading
Anyway, nice idea.
It is a cool idea, but I have a few questions: Why would you prioritize cheap and DIY adapter for a car mount that cost almost as much as the tablet itself? And doesn't the rough metal scratch anything it touches?
And lastly, for anyone else who's looking for something similar, I would recommend something like THIS. I bought two, put one mount in each of our cars, and put the metal brackets on both our phones and both our tablets. Now for less than $15, I can put any device I want into whatever car we're using. And yes, the little magnets do hold the Kindle up pretty well, even if they're heavier than a normal cell phone.
I need the magnet on the tablet not the car adaptor because I click the tablet to tool boxes, car bodies, microwaves, metal racks ect.. The hard drive magnet was free. I have not notices any scratches. The ball mount was for my phone and yes it was expensive but so was the phone.
This is round 2. These cases are great I got three of them from Amazon for about 15 bucks a piece and seeing how rare a rootable device is I don't want to break it. I used the magnet end of a mount and glued it to the kickstand.
