ScanToPDF Mobile - Android General

We’ve just launched an Android version of our ScanToPDF product and it would be good to get some feedback from this forum on the features you would want to see in version 2. We’d also like feedback on the product’s pricing.
Product Overview.
ScanToPDF Mobile is designed to create single or multi-page PDFs from images acquired from the device’s camera or gallery. Having created the PDF the user is given the option to email or FTP and the PDFs are stored for future reference.
Product Development.
We develop products by asking our users what features they want in the next version. If you would like to give us input into the features you want then you can install version 1 by searching in the android market/google play for ‘scantopdf mobile free’ and check that the author is O Imaging Corporation Ltd. – we can’t post a link to the market page as we are a new member of the forum and we are not allowed to post links or images.
You can then either post your ideas on this forum or email them to us android.apps (at) oimaging.co.uk.
Pricing.
Our pricing approach is that if a user wants to create just a few PDFs (less than 30) we are quite happy for them to use the product free of charge. No adverts, no pop-ups, no reduced functionality. But if they want to create more than 30 PDFs they have a choice. They can either pay $2.00 or they can have their PDFs watermarked with an unobtrusive banner that reads ‘created by ScanToPDF’. We think this is fair but it would good to hear your thoughts. How does $2.00 sound for this type of product?
And as a thank you for anyone that gives us feedback; the current download of the free version doesn’t include the 30 PDF limit so you will be getting the paid version free of charge. We will leave that version available for download until the 14th March 2012.

To ALL developers, coders etc. - VERY IMPORTANT, READ THIS!

As you may know, I am involved in several projects that provide your software a lot of good free publicity:
I regularly make thorough, all-product, roundup reviews of most Windows Mobile software categories.
Hal Goldstein, publisher, Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine, has appointed me Best Software Awards 2007 Nominations Manager, http://www.pocketpcmag.com/awards (site may not yet updated for 2007 but current information almost all applies for 2007)
For the awards to succeed and in order to be YOUR software not to be missed from my roundups, you REALLY submit or update your product listing at the Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine Encyclopedia of Software and Accessories ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/_enc/encyclopedia.asp ) (click the link - the listing is free!).
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO THOSE ALREADY LISTED In ENCYCLOPEDIA: Make sure all your listings are up to date. A new field has been added - Last Major Update. The field will be used in the awards process and published on-line and in print. See the end of this E-mail for details.
To be nominated for the awards, a product must first be listed in the Encyclopedia. For my roundups, I do my best to track down all possible alternatives. However, sometimes even I don't find them; for example, when they're only discussed on a forum in a language I don't speak (for example, Chinese) I speak / understand (Germanic) Western languages, all the three major Finno-Ugric ones, Russian and spoken Japanese. Except for Japanese, I keep an eye on most of these forums and WM-related sites. I can't do this, however, with Far-East languages. That is, I can't follow, for example, Chinese forums and, therefore, don't know what the Chinese discuss if they don't post on a European/U.S. forum.
Therefore, I *strongly* implore you all to make sure your product is listed in the above-linked Encyclopedia. By doing this, you can be absolutely sure it won't be missing from my future roundups. Registering / editing / updating stuff is FREE and can be done in a few minutes. In exchange, the entire world will be aware of your product, particularly when I include it in one of my forthcoming articles AND / OR if it is nominated for the Best Software Awards 2007. In addition, Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine uses the Encyclopedia to create their New Products section in the magazine, their New Products weekly newsletter, and their New Products section on their web site.
Note that you don't need to be a "big", established software developer. One-man developers should register their products and if there product is strong have BIG chance to be nominated for the Best Software Awards 2007 contest. For example, I do plan nominating several free, but very-very important and life-saving utilities of well-known, mostly XDA-Developers-based hackers / programmers like vijay555 (for example his full screen TSC hack), water (SmartsKey) or FdcSoft (Task Manager). The same stands for other, free utilities like Motoblast, LLC’s PMRecorder. That is, even if you're a hobbyist programmer / free-time coder "only" writing free utilities, make sure you DO register your stuff in there. This will help me a LOT in the nominating process (I REALLY don't want to leave out any decent titles from nomination), let alone my future articles & roundups.
Once again, it's for everyone's advantage that you register your stuff. For me (and the other folks at PPCMag in charge of the Best Software Awards 2007), it's easier to find them, nominate for the Best Software Awards 2007 voting and consider them for my product roundups; for you because your product will be not only included in my roundups but are also accessible to the public in the Encyclopedia - again, all this for FREE! -, and, finally, for all Windows Mobile users because they will have an easier time finding your stuff.
Finally, I'd like to point out that I've just added a new data input field to the product update form containing the Date Of Last Major Upgrade of the product. Please do fill it in and always make sure you fill it in whenever you implement a major upgrade on your product.
What is a major update, you may ask. An example: the NetFront 3.2 -> 3.3 version jump is a major update. So is the PIEPlus 1.x -> 2.0 version jump. Sticking with PIEPlus, a 2.1 -> 2.2 jump is NOT a major update. I'd say everything should be considered a major update that involves at least 20-40% completely rewritten / redesigned / brand new code or resources. Please, therefore, refrain from always updating this field with every minor update - the 20-40% rule should always be right (and note that I'm also a die-hard programmer - I can give a pretty much exact estimation of how much of that code base / resources have been changed between subsequent program versions. That is, no cheating please ;-) ).
Thanks in advance,

We are offering Featured placement on the home page for the next 3 months (first 250 apps uploaded) by Android Developers on iPlayTonesApps.com. The first 1,000 apps uploaded will also get FREE advertisement banners for the next 4 months on iPlayTonesApps.com.
It's FREE to create a user account and very simple to upload. There is no approval process! No subscription or hidden fees! High payouts for every app sale you make.
iPlayTonesApps.com is one of the six other major Android App websites out there and is expected to quickly surpass most of those website within the next 10 months, due to four simple reasons.
First and foremost, it's entirely FREE to create a user account, upload paid or free Android Apps, sell and monitor your sales reports on our website. Second, we are the first mobile website to offer Credits with great discounts on all app purchases for our customers (ensuring a higher sales number for our developers) and no other Android App website offers such flexibility as we do. When a user makes a purchase with our Credits, the Developer doesn't loose any money for the sale, as iPlayTones, LLC will be taking the loss. The third and probably most important reason to use iPlayTonesApps.com, is that we do not have any monthly or yearly subscription fees like most of the other Android App websites. Last, but not least, you will make high payouts for all your paid apps. Each user account has an up-to-the-minute sales monitoring system that is easy to view and make a payout request.
With our easy to use-interface and our sales monitoring system, there is no need to wait until the next day to see your sales revenue. You are sure to enjoy the iPlayTonesApps.com website!

This job posting is exciting for two reasons:
1 - If its legit (and why wouldn't it be) This is at least tells us Netflix wants to be on Android and is trying to work it out. Not sure when its going to happen though, but at least they're trying.
2 - I'm not much of a techie, but if I was this sounds like a great position. I'm sure some of you guys/gals patrolling XDA (who live in the SF Bay Area) might just be perfect for this job
I would especially love that line close to the bottom:
We pay top of market for top talent. We work to attract the best and brightest and pay accordingly.
From what I understand, Netflix has a great corporate culture, too. It's very results-oriented, which is very nice sounding if you've ever worked in an engineering sweatshop.

[APP] Looking for Android alpha testers for a money tracking application I created.

My main goal for this project was to keep the application simple, yet effective. I don't like cluttered applications, however, I like ones which get things done! My new application "Simple Register" for lack of a better name, is just that (in my opinion.)
It functions similar to a checkbook register, where you can easily track your money. You can set an initial starting balance if different than $0, and from there credit money or debit money from the account. There is no linking to bank accounts or anything of that sort. I wanted to keep this simple.
I am looking for some Alpha testers who track their expenses and who are willing to give good feedback in order to improve the application. It is definitely not complete in terms of features, which is part of the reason I am here. I know there are things which can be added, that don't make the application too complex, yet can improve the overall experience.
The UI is currently not the best as I have tried to devote more time to functionality and have not had a chance to get around to making it look "pretty" yet. I will say, however, it is not by any means ugly. It is simple looking, which should make it extremely easy for someone of any skill level to use!
With that being said, I want to reach out (with this post) to get a few Alpha testers. I have an Alpha community setup through Google+ at the moment which will give you access to the Alpha version of the application through the Google Play Store.
If you are interested, please join the following Google+ community, which will provide the link to sign up for the Alpha testing (through google) and allow you to download the application. Membership will be limited (so that I do not get overwhelmed with users and feedback) so if you do not get in right away, please be patient.
Simple Register Alpha - Google+ Communities
In the future, I plan for there to be a paid version of the application (this may change.) Currently I am limiting the number of accounts someone is able to create, and there are a few more features I am planning which would be in the paid version. Those who have helped test the application, will be provided the paid version free of charge.
Thanks in advance!

Peer Review - "Advanced Android Application Development, 4th Edition"

To the Android Dev Community:
Hey everyone. My name is Brad Yale. Without beating around the bush, I work for Pearson Education on their tech side as a community specialist representing a good portion of their programming (android, iOS, Windows, game dev etc.) titles/content.
Currently I am looking for interested Android dev's to peer review Joseph Annuzzi, Lauren Darcey andShane Conder's "Advanced Android Application Development, 4th Edition" for Amazon.
How the Program Works:
I would send the title to you for free (either soft cover or e-pub) and all I would ask in return is:
A truthful Amazon review of the title within 45 - 60 days of receipt.
A note on reviews:
We want the reviews to be honest and comprehensive. If you like the content, cool. If you don't like the content, also cool.
We are looking for honest reviews of content which offers a comprehensive breakdown/critique (ex. this section was great however to make the title better, it could elaborate on...". The basic idea here is we want the content to stand on its own two feet so consumers can continue learning and authors can produce better versions. In no way shape or form will I, or anyone from Pearson, try to influence your content review. Honesty is what matters.
Additionally, I would love the following however it would be your choice:
Social - Some tweets, G+, Linkedin, Reddit etc. postings on the title of selection with a link pointing back to the title product page
Blog - A blog post on the title of selection with a link pointing back to the title product page
If this is something you would be interested in, feel free to email me at [email protected].
Respectfully,
Brad Yale
