[ROM][4.0.3] MIUI v4 [Beta1.1][13 Mar 2012] - Hero CDMA Android Development

Ported from gannon5197's Optimus V build
Thank you jaybob413 for everything... literally everything.
I don't know who to give credit for this thing. Whoever wins the argument, thank you.

This isn't a theme.... this is MIUI v4 ICS holy crap batman yummy goodness!
What doesn't work:
camera
let me know
Changelog:
Code:
Beta 1.1 - fixed su issue, usb mass storage works, outgoing calls work, logcat fixed
Beta 1 - phone force close fixed
Alpha - initial release
Notes:
The installation AND the first boot take a while!! Boot took over 6 minutes on a clean install... it helps if you watch the logcat.
It takes a little while for everything to settle after boot, but it runs much better after it's done with all of the processing.
Make sure you turn on root permissions in the MIUI permissions app.

I've got a list of things to do and two heros, so the first set of changes should be the biggest.... like adding the miui libs I left out

Hey man if you really want a stable port use my one. It will work because I've been porting your other ROMs for some time now

Going to give this a go this afternoon, thanks for your time and effort on all of these Roms!

Even more credit to jaybob413 for everything.

You should follow your own advice. Your ROM for the Galaxy Mini is based off of one of my MIUI.us ports. I'm getting FC emails with a model name "tass" and I inspected your ROM and found my email address in it. Give ****ing credit or stop *****ing about others doing what you did.
It irks me to see a developer crying foul but doing the exact same thing they are complaining about.

This looks promising if you'll base it off gingerbread instead of ics. Might want to get a hold of cofface or whoever it was that ported miui to v6 devices and ask how it was done. You have a better chance of getting a decent miui build by porting this against a fully working gingerbread rom.
Might have to start from scratch but knowing how it was done in the first place should help a lot.

Looks like MIUI v4 is an ICS based rom, are you saying use an older version of MIUI?

Yes, why work on porting something over that even the higher end devices have problem running. Instead port over the gingerbread miui using jaybobs gb build as a base and that should fix a lot of problems.

Exactly why DX is gingerbread.

I think I've just fixed the only bug keeping it from being a stable ROM in my port. As soon as he ports his over, it will work just fine. No problems, hopefully

Thanks to BeansTown106 for the phone force close fix.
The rom is usable now. We're looking at an issue with the dialer force closing.
Can receive calls, send/receive sms.
Post any issues you have

Makes sense, would love to see a speedy MIUI. However this looks awesome, still going to flash and try it out.

Updated - beta1.1
Made several calls now without issue
Fixed su issue
USB mass storage works now (requires su permission)
Make sure you enable root permissions in the MIUI permissions app

Running this now, I really like a lot of things about MIUI, but, alas, the Hero.. would a GB-based one ported over run much more smoothly (probably?)?

We are offering 1.4 both odex and deodex. Keep in mind, most themers theme deodex ROMs.
Make sure to choose what the google add-on that corresponds with your ROM choice.

Its aosp. They all work.
Downloading now.
I achieved a Quadrant score of 1460 with the last build. I'll report back after flash and restore.
Great job man. I'm just curious. Did you odex post-build or did you compile Rom with an odex option? Ive been playing with Rom building for some time now and have only messed with sense. I managed to build a stock aosp Rom the other day but would like to learn more about aosp building. Feel free to pm because I feel this post is off-topic. Thanks man.
Now that I have root again I might have to give this a go (would be first aosp Rom).

will there be any updates to the kernal? I'm not sure if HTC releasing source code changes anything...
Also does this rom still have the problem with the sensors that plagued the cm and deck roms?
Hmmm... No Go. After several attempts installing the fedex version; I restored V1.3. I was never able to boot past the htc EVO 4G screen.

Being an AOSP ROM, these do not rely on the HTC kernel code release. There are any of several fine kernels to choose from, so its virtually always possible to find one that your phone likes.
Regarding the 'problem with the sensors', can you elaborate on that? I've used a couple versions of the Evo-deck ROM and have yet to experience any issue.
I look forward to trying this ROM! For some reason, I couldn't get the 1.3 to run on my phone, but that could have been a bad download or similar issue. I was just too busy at that time. But I read so much good about the SalvageMod...I gotta give it a go!
Thank you for your time.
P.S: Thank you for offering the community both odex and deodex versions! I love themes, but the odex ROMs run way quicker on my phone.
Looks good I'll give it a try later.
Thanks lit.

well it got in a bootloop. Was worth a try though, reformatted SD and got it back to normal. Great rom
I noticed there was a 1.4 deodexed Gapps package, but I didn't see one for 1.4 odexed.
I am assuming to use the odexed gapps that were already posted, but wanted to double check.

Ah, I did run into this problem occasionally. I also found that when I would press the power button to wake the phone up when asleep I had to hold the power button down for a few seconds or it wouldn't wake up. I was using the SZ 2.2.1 kernel at the time, and later found that I experienced these things when using the smartass or SavageZen governors. I switched to InteractiveX and didn't experience them any more.
Thank you for your time.
Dang, lithid, I was just about to flash & test your kernel with the Synergy RLS-1 rom and then I saw this: Salvage-Mod 1.4....I was like, "WHAT!" ...Oh well, your new kernel can wait...hahaha.......flashing the latest Salvage-Mod cannot wait. Thank you.

This is an awesome system,it looks alot like MIUI and runs like CM,but of course it does its on a CM7 base, but the menus, transitions and the gestures to get things to respond are unique.
Right now this is the beta testing phase,i was able to install lewa OS successfully on the OG EVO,but it has a few bugs as of now,no data/sync and no gapps,it seems to be stuck on roaming,i have a few testers running it now to find more bugs,i will accept a few more beta testers,if you are interested,pm me.
When a beta testing phase is over(beta 1,beta 2,etc.)i will post a public link,so the rest can try it also.

Def gonna flash this over the weekend.
I ran into an issue with the lockscreen. When trying to apply a different lockscreen, the phone went into a boot-loop.
I tried to wipe only the cache and dalvik and re-flashed, but the boot-loop continued. Ended up wiping everything and reflashing the rom.

This is interesting stuff in here.....hahahaha
Ok, this rom is in another world of it's own. It's very speedy and the response is like none other. For a non hwa, I'm very impressed! The system video playback is very nifty. I am able to watch videos without having to install flash.
The sound for this rom is on the lower side, maybe it's just my bad hearing from all the loud music and bass growing up I thought it could be kernel related, so I test some kernel out. I flash mason I thinking this was hwa support but phone lagged out really bad. I went back and flash mason G .14 sbc and it's running fine now.
I notice that I'm missing quite a few widget. My battery monitor widget isn't here along with my beautiful widget. I do remember when running backup I "click install to sd". So I moved app to internal voila I have widget!
So I'm guessing until a2sd is cook in, I can't get the widget to work properly if I installed it to sd.
Is that build.prop to get data/sync? I copied over but my phone is still in roaming. Unless I'm reading it wrong?
Before I try this out, how's the music sound quality? Is it like sense base or cm7 with dspmanager that actually works?

This is my first time porting MIUI so bear with me as I do the best I can.
The reason its pwnyourace presents and the filename isnt MIUI.us is simply because I am not part of the MIUI.us "team" and this isn't hosted on MIUI.us

The shift for some reason doesn't like to boot with any other phones libandroid_runtime.so than its own and the theme app force closing is showing androidruntime errors in logcat which points in the smali replacing/diffing direction lol. If I can't get it I've seen a few "themes fixed" in Changelogs on ports so I should be able to find someone to ask, like I said this is my first attempt at porting actually I'm general not just MIUI.

the home launcher thing is something i never wouldve noticed lol im making logs of it right now. the hot reboot thing i think i actually fixed because i was getting it to but then i did some more framework.jar edits and havent gotten one yet. thanks for the feedback let me know if you find anymore issues
edit: looking at the logcat i might have it. the ICS dalvik cache lines in build.prop are supposed to look like this
dalvik.vm.heapstartsize=5m
dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit=48m
dalvik.vm.heapsize=128m
and deck still had it at 32m which caused an out of memory error and causes the home launcher to be killed to due memory overload. just theory here lol giving it a shot now
edit2: yup that was it, works just fine now yay for squashing bugs
edit3: flashable zip for hot reboot and out of memory error fix coming when I finish eating. Look for it in the 2nd post

[W.I.P] MIUI For SGS3

MIUI is one of the most popular ROMs ever built for android and you can read about it here --> http://en.miui.com/a-39.html
8/25/12: {UPDATE}
I am currently working on porting MIUI over to the SGS3, I am working with another developer right now and we are making A LOT of progress on the port. Currently there is no ETA for a release but hopefully we will be done soon. Anyways, we are still looking for testers so please post in the thread or send me a PM if you are interested in testing the ROM.

I would definitely be interested in this as well. I ran MIUI for quite some time on my DInc - great ROM.

Hello Everyone,
I am a big fan of MIUI and I was just reading that they recently released a JellyBean version of MIUI (here). I thought this would be great for our phone and now that our bootloader is pretty much unlocked I don't think it would be too hard to port this over. I was wondering if any of our great developers could look into this.
I am happy to use my phone as a testing device if anyone starts working on this.
Thanks,

You are welcome to start a port yourself check out miui.us or the cooking forums here on xda for instructions on how to start porting roms.
Otherwise, I would say that beans is the most likely to do this. He had a very nice MIUI port for the DX (I know because I tried it!)
Yes, I am looking into porting this rom over to the SGS3, I have been reading up on some guides for porting MIUI and I would love to read one about building roms for the SGS3 in specific. A couple years back I got into building roms for the DROID ERIS but I haven't done a lot of work with them since. I really have just been doing a lot of theming.
Either way, I will get started on a port and please point me to any useful information if you know of any!
Thanks,
Ljbaumer

Beans said in his release notes tonight that he is starting to port miui with cm10 as a base. I would expect an unofficial within a week

I just made an alpha 0.0.1 build of miui for the SGS3 (VZW), I am pretty sure it is loaded with bugs and may not even boot but there is a tiny bit of progress being made.
I am thinking that the main problem will be the updater-script. Please PM me if you can help with the updater-script or just know a lot about ROM building, AOKP (I am basing it off AOKP Milestone 6.1), MIUI, or you think you can help.
All I can say is good luck to you in your efforts. The last fully functioning MIUI ROM that I used was on the DInc. A few developers struggled very hard to get MIUI working on the HTC thunderbolt, and we never got a fully functioning ROM. They could never seem to get MMS to work properly. It seems that as our devices have become more and more sophisticated, it is harder and harder to get MIUI to fly. I hope earnestly that you can be successful on this. It is the smoothest, most user friendly, easy on the eye, ROM out there with themes galore. I can't wait!
New Build! Alpha 0.1.0! Testers Needed!
Currently uploading a new build...
Just an FYI, created another build that has a much better chance of booting than the previous one. I am looking for some testers, please contact me if you are available to test some builds for me.
Quick warning: there is a very good chance that the ROM will not boot correctly. In that case you may have a brick or you will have to restore your old ROM via recovery or just completely flash and re-root again via ODIN. I take absolutely no responsibility for what happens to your phone before or after you flash this ROM or anything else that I have made. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Install Instructions:
1) Reboot To Recovery (I use CWM 6.0.1.0) (Don't use touch recovery)
2) MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT ROM
3) Wipe data, cache, and dalvick-cache
4) Install ROM from SDCARD
5) Reboot and pray that it worked
6) Report Bugs back to me (almost 100% sure that there will be bugs)
Download here (Alpha 0.1.0 (Probably not working)): http://www.ljbaumer.com/android/MIUI/alpha/0.1.x/MIUI_2.8.3_CM10_BASE_ALPHA_0.1.0.zip
All testers are extremely appreciated!

No problem,
I realize I didn't really state what MIUI is in the OP. I will update it after this.
Anyways, MIUI is an extremely customized and smooth version of android that gives android a completely different look and feel. I really like it so I am working on porting it over to the SGS3. You can read all about MIUI and see some screenshots at their website right here: http://en.miui.com/
Or you can also do this: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=MIUI
MIUI is just like normal android, meaning you can use the play store and do all of the same things that you can do typically except you can also do tons of other cool extra stuff such as full theming support! Also the whole UI is re-done and it looks like a much improved version of HTC Sense mixed with TouchWiz (IMO).
Hopefully that helps a bit!
Thanks,
Ljbaumer

i do clean flash then i start the rom and got to mobile settings/ go to sim and make sure RUIM is selected then i go to apn settings and chose LTE/Verizon Internet..then go back and choose network type cause it switches to wcdma when u select LTE apn due to GIT changes then.. but switch wcdma to LTE/cdma and reboot and i have 4g after a 40sec- 1 min i get 4g data on its own and phone number and MIN are found properly,
simply:
Clean Flash
Go to Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names> LTE/Verizon Internet
Go Back>Network Type Selection>LTE
REBOOT and WAIT a couple minutes for 4g =)

If I wasn't so damn busy I'd help. All StrummerJohn did was port MIUI over, it shouldn't take more than a few days to get up and running..
I work 7 days a week. And on top if that I'm an amateur at porting roms. I don't have access to my pc until tomorrow sadly, I work in a different city on weekends.
but a couple small fixes should be uploaded tomorrow night. Namely permission fixes which should allow it to be much more usable. Fingers crossed

Sweet looking forward to it. If you could, you should document your changes as there is still much for me to learn. Porting your Rom isnt hard because the hardware is identical. I would like to learn how to port from different hardware.
That aside I will keep d2vzw on par with your d2spr updates. I've been checking everyday for v5 on galaxy s3, I'm glad I have a small part in making it happen

He actually didn't port it over. Beans started this and he took it over with patches and fixes along with Bleelas helping. The very last release is actually built from the ground up. Even if he did port things over, if he didn't, no one would even have a stable v4

Ahh OK. SJ did do a good job, I rocked MIUI for awhile and it was one of the more stable ROMs out there that I tried. My point was that most of the work is already done and it shouldn't take too long to get a working version of V5 for the GS3.
Lol even I said I'm an amateur. Getting this from d2spr literally took one night with bare experience. Most of the work is done already
I want to learn porting from other hardware, that's the hard part. Anyone got a good place to start dabbling in that

Ahh thank got I thought it was 4.2 because v4 is 4.1.2 why cant is still be v4 then? I tried looking on the web and it looks like there are no major differences besides theming and updated apps really ( I know it's not as simple as that) I just cant find any major changes.. With the V4 we are currently already on the last CM build so what really is different? By no means am I talking down about the progress in the Rom I just am confused
